I've been bringing my car to Guy's for regular car maintenance and repair for years and have always had a good experience. They aren't a place that is going to try to sell you on something you don't need, and are honest and up front with you about the cost of the repair. A couple months ago I was having problems with my battery. They told me to stop buy and took a look at it for free (ended up being a small issue that I was able to fix myself). I also have been able to leave my car overnight for an oil change without any issues. My only gripe would be the waiting area could use an upgrade, but other than that I could not recommend Guy's enough. read more

Heard a noise coming from brakes. Stopped in to make an appointment but with the upcoming holiday, their service calendar was booked. Very early the next morning, I received a call that scheduled appointments had not shown up so they had an opening. I hurriedly got dressed and dropped off the car - so happy to do so. Mel called shortly after, informing me of exactly what was wrong with the brakes and the cost to repair. I appreciated the heads up but told them to go ahead with the repair. Reading the two other 1-star reviews, I genuinely can't understand how anyone give Guy's Oil such a terrible review. My experiences with them have always been great for two major reasons: 1. THEY'RE HONEST: A few years ago, I took my car to a Toyota dealer to get my oil changed, and they gave me a packet that listed about $3,000.00 worth of concerns they said my car needed to be addressed immediately (keep in mind, I have a 2007 Toyota Camry that is in pretty decent shape). After a moment of freaking out, I immediately took my car and this Toyota packet of suggested repairs to Guy's Oil, and they brought my car in and said there were no major issues of concern (i.e. Toyota said my brakes were way too thin, and Guy's Oil assured me that they look almost brand new). After spending a half hour looking at my car, THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME A PENNY. I was blown away!! 2. THEY'RE GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO: When I go in for an oil change, they spend a good amount of time looking the car over, and letting me know what my car ACTUALLY needs (i.e. air filters, air in tires, etc...) and fix it on the spot! When I went in last week they said I needed new air filters. They didn't have any in shop available, so they actually had one of their guys run out and get some that day. They dedicate a lot of time to each oil change (~1-2hrs). The only reason they don't get a 5-star is because they're a little pricey (~$50.00 for oil change), but it really is worth the peace of mind that my car is in good hands. I'm a first-year teacher living on my own, with not a lot of money to throw around, so I really appreciate having a place like Guy's Oil that I can trust. I've since moved from East Lyme, CT to Holyoke, MA, but I still schedule all my appointments at Guy's Oil for when I come back into town to visit family! read more

I had a great towing experience with this provider. I needed to have my car towed from Niantic to a dealer 89 miles away. The tow driver was very competent, professional and personable (I rode with him in the tow truck - the truck was clean and comfortable). The driver was very knowledgeable about cars and if I ever need local service in the future I would not hesitate have my car serviced at this station. read more

My experience here was great. My car had a million problems - and they allowed me to process and think about my options. My car's battery died in East Lyme and Dick from Guy's Oil Service Station in Niantic, CT responded to the AAA call. He was outstanding! He replaced the battery on the spot and also replaced a corroded clamp. He cleaned around the battery and sprayed all the connections with a special compound to help prevent future corrosion. He was so warm, friendly, polite and efficient. Just terrific! read more

Guys Auto serviced a AAA service call to charge a car that would not start. The mechanic got the car started then had the owner turn off the car and try to start it again. The car wouldn't start after the initial charge so he tested the battery. The battery failed the test, most likely because the car had not run for long enough to give it a full charge. He advised the owner to purchase a new battery even though she explained to him that the battery had been purchased only a month and 1/2 ago. Instead, the mechanic should have advised the woman to call her car dealer in the am for a replacement battery since it was most likely covered under warranty. The woman was at her home in a safe location with no urgency to drive her car either that night or the next. The mechanic lacked basic critical thinking skills and common sense. He sold the woman a battery with a three yr warranty. Why did he deem it necessary to do so if the battery he was replacing was only 1.5 months old, could he not transfer the knowledge of knowing that a batteries expected life at the very least is three yrs and that it should be covered by Honda still? The battery he took out was tested a few days later at Honda it passed all tests necessary and was deemed a good battery. I called and spoke with the service manager at Guy. He lacked concern and follow through. He passed the issue on to AAA when in fact it was an error on their service stations part. He told her to take the issue up with AAA. We are very disappointed with both parties at Guy's lack of common sense and customer service skills. I would not recommend their service because of this experience. They seem to be lacking professional ethics. read more

I cant understand some of these reviews. I have always had a great experience with Guys Oil. Out in garage, with roadside assistance, or getting gas. Not sure how you could be charged with "more gas that can fill your tank." when everything is so heavily regulated these days. I have never had that problem here. I was just going to come on here and say what a great experience I had with purchasing my new SUV from guys, but felt compelled to raise questions with some of the previous reviewers. Moved to the area from the other end of the state. Rented a house in East Lyme. The owner of the house wanted to service the boiler. The owner said to use Guys oil because they put in the system. I said sure just let me know when the appointment is and I would be there. Well, 2 weeks go by and, I get to work, which is about an 75 minutes away,and get a call from guys oil that they were there to clean the boiler. I was over an hr away and never got a call from the owner of the property or guys oil alerting me that they were coming. I under stand that mistakes happen, so I called back Guys oil and set up an appointment to have this work done. They told me they were 3-4 weeks out, I ask for an evening appointment or a weekend appointment because I worked so far away. Guys Oil told me that they did not make those appointments, and that i had to be home during the day that was good for them to service the boiler. The appointment was made 26 days in advance to come and service the boiler. They were coming between 3pm-5pm. I left work at 1:30pm to make sure that I got home to be there to let them in. At 4:30pm I get a call from guys oil that they would not be coming out in that time frame because there techs were to busy.. I asked when they were going to be able to come back out, I was thinking maybe later in the evening or another time that I could be there. They told me it would be another week from that day and I would have to miss a day of work to be there. Now I understand that mistakes happen, but these mistake just seem to keep happening, I was only using Guys Oil because the owner asked me to, but after missing work and having to miss another day because of there mistakes. I don't think I would ever use Guys oil for anything. I never received any kind of apology for there mistakes, it was like I was bothering them. Here is some advice to the dispatcher or owner of the company, the next time your company makes a mistake, and the customer is on the phone with your employee, MAKE SURE THEY CANT HEAR YOUR RUDE COMMENTS ABOUT NOT GETTING TO THERE HOUSE, no matter how bad your day was going, mine just got worse.
