DO NOT GO TO TRIVIA HERE!!!! The ambience is magical. I was excited to be coming here for a nice entertaining night out of trivia. My partner and I sat at the bar and ordered our drinks. When Trivia started, the four people next to us just used their phones the whole time!!!!!! No one seemed to care. We were the only ones who seemed to notice/care. We quit. 4 rounds into trivia, the bartender was looking answers up on his phone and giving them to the group sitting next to us. How is this fun or even fair. Visited the Parlor for a Pure Ink Poetry Slam / Open Mic event. The atmosphere in the Parlor was very cool, cannot even really describe it cool. Old school feel, with great décor. Events are held here fairly regularly, appealing to the masses. The food though...oh the glorious food. Okay, maybe that is not a fair statement. The appetizers...oh the appetizers! The group ordered a variety of deliciousness, so we were able to snack on several options together. I tend to do this, best way to tackle a menu and this un-decisive stomach of mine. As a whole, we enjoyed the following: Garlic Parmesan Wings - delicious. Meaty, saucy and delicious. Accompanied by potentially housemade blue cheese, also quite delicious and highly recommended. Three Dips - served on a platter were three different dips (hummus, red pepper and something with artichoke hearts). Those were plated with both chips and pita. I am not usually a fan of hummus, but this one was decent. Quite thick in consistency which was different. The red pepper was not very spicy, and would likely compliment that hummus perfectly. The artichoke hearts was nothing I have ever tasted before, just okay in my opinion, especially next to its vast competition. Pastelillos - very spicy. If I was not such a wimp when it comes to heat and spice, I imagine they were the bomb dot com. I cannot attest to the taste of the spring rolls ordered by other tablemates, but they too looked delicious. Everything that walked by the table looked delicious. In conjunction with the over all ambiance, the events held, the fabulous staff and the food enjoyed, this may be a newly frequented place for me. O k- Another good time -On the patio the last few visits, which is a great place to be after that winter. ...with the lace curtains billowing gently ,it felt really cozy! The new menu is out and loaded with fun new food- more Vegetarian-and the Fish Fry is awesome... definitley hold its own and then some in a Fish Fry critical town! Sampled a new Specialty Drink- from the new menu- Sex on the Street,- very refreshing and light, and my buddy enjoyed the homemade Basil Lemonade with local Vodka! Lamb Samosas with deliciuos mint dipping sauce were packed with Lamb- and we enjoyed mellow Parisian tango music in the background as Tango and Tango lessons were in full swing,! It was fun to watch, so gracefull, maybe next time.... ( every other Sunday) There were specials along with the new menu :: Moroccan Chicken Tajine, Tempura Battered Portobello and Arugula Salad, and Black Bean Burger! I tried the Moroccan special w chicken and olives in turmeric based yummy broth and cous cous served in an enormuos bowl...make sure to ask for grilled bread for that broth! (just finishe it for lunch!) and the Black Sheep Burger with the beet slaw has become a family favorite, and was as good as always! Not accusing Gypsy just curious if a mistake was made. I called and got a manager immediately at midnight on Wednesday and personally received a text picture of my receipt assuring the accuracy of the charge. Stopped in last night for the first time for some later dinner and a few beers. We got in around 8, there was just another pair at the bar and two bartenders. While there is cozy seating in the back, we decided to sit at the bar since it was so dead. For once, I went in unspoiled (never checked the menu online) and was not disappointed. We split the banh mi poutine which was really creative and delicious. This dish features pulled pork or tofu, standard gravy, hand cut fries, and spicy pickled jalapenos, carrots and topped with cilantro. For our entrees (of which we only finished one because we were so full after the poutine) we tried Peruvian chicken skewers and the black bean burger off the specials menu. The chicken was moist and tender and the saffron rice was seasoned perfectly. The black bean burger was also moist which made it a little cumbersome to handle, but I fork and knifed it. The burger is served with smoked gouda, greens tossed in a roasted poblano aioli and topped with a fried egg. On the side were sweet potato fries drizzled with local honey--I can't even describe how delicious these were. The perfect blend of sweet and salty, I really hope they stay on the menu. The service was attentive, fun and on point. Around 9:30 or so, the bar switched into club mode when a live DJ took the stage in back. At this point the bar started to fill up, but there was still plenty off room to hang out at the bar. The vibe stayed pretty chill despite the DJ (who was also very good). This place is a hidden gem you'd do well to experience. I will definitely be back for dinner or just to hang and sample some local color, as they say. read more

I really like there open mic. It gets a little weird, which is fun. The tutu's are a nice touch. Sometimes it takes a while to get going, but it is fun. The beer list is meh, the food is good, price is right. I would advise trying a ton of stuff. there's one thing we don't talk about much and it's brunch club. once a month, i go out to brunch with a bunch of middle aged ladies and my partner and we try a new place in buffalo. my dog, who wears bebe, completely judges us for this habit. brunch is typically completely terrible throughout buffalo. we've been to patina, the terrace (not bad), and a million other places. so we chose gypsy for the january brunch. usually when i'm here, I'm pretty drunk, it's the night of my bowling league, and my friends are serenading the bar with their amazing karaoke singing. i've never had feelings either pro or anti this place except for the fact that i try to fight Zoltar, the fortune teller, every time i'm here. brunch at gypsy completely threw us for a loop. and not because we accidentally made brunch the day of the first bills playoffs since i was in 7th grade. we're coming back to culturally appropriate gypsy juice with vodka, breakfast shots, pastelillos, and breakfast poutine. read more

They sold me the prosthetic Tullamore Dew and thats no BULL! Ive been a purveyor of the stuff for years, and id pop a small boy in the suckler for servin me any less. Thats what happened. I've ordered take out from here before but never actually set food inside until today for brunch. I really enjoyed the ambience- it is an appropriately named establishment. We were seated promptly upon arrival but were advised that if we plan on arriving after 12:30 in the future, a reservation is recommended as it can fill up quickly. They have bottomless mimosas for $15/person, which most of my party opted for. The brunch cocktail menu looked very appetizing though as well. Everything sounded really good on the menu, but it was a general consensus that nothing quite tasted as good as it sounded. Everything was good but not great. I had the cranberry compote French toast. My husband had the Huevos rancheros. My friends got the brunch burger and the chorizo naan pizza. The home fries were more like French Fry nuggets- perfect for me, very disappointing to my husband. The toasted walnuts in the French toast were not necessary in my opinion. Our server was absolutely amazing! He refilled our mimosa glasses before they were even close to being empty. And we had many refills. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would return but I don't think we are in a huge rush, at least not for brunch! Their pastelillos won't keep us away for too long though! read more

On Friday night I believe I traveled back in time to the pre-civil rights era as I witnessed 2 black men being denied from the Gypsy Parlor by the bouncer. "Dress code" they were told, "dirty" they were called. One man wore traditional african attire and the other wore cargo pants and a sweatshirt. Please note I had arrived in jeans and an over-sized sweater with holes, reeking of amvets with a friend that looks like ted kaczynski and another friend covered in house paint and probably her own blood. I am relatively white and I was not stopped nor IDed as I entered the bar. Since when does anything on Grant street have a dress code? Apparently skin color is the dress code at Gypsy Parlor. The owner was nearby, dressed up in her "gypsy" Halloween costume (an insulting racial caricature in itself), stating that the 2 men were aggressive toward the bouncer. Um... no. They were appropriate and respectful and there are several witnesses to that. The west side is a diverse neighborhood and there is no place for a racist establishment like Gypsy Parlor. read more

I went here to see a friend's band play. The atmosphere is dark and mysterious, with "gypsy" themed decor. This parlor definitely has atmosphere. My concern and suggestion with this bar has to do with their bar. Twice, I saw customers return drinks because they weren't made correctly. My girlfriend's drink was extremely weak, while the bartender clearly over poured another patron's. Inconsistency. The drink prices are relatively expensive, especially for a new business trying to establish itself in a developing neighborhood. The service was slow, and the bartenders' revealing clothing seemed unnecessary. Low-rent. The dress code prevents patrons from wearing sports apparel and hoodies, obviously an attempt to keep out the "locals". I think they should be focused on their own dress, rather than their paying customers. When I think about going out, the Gypsy Parlor is not a place I consider. read more

This place could be cool, but the drinks are getting expensive and there is a horrible stench inside. I read that they keep a cat in the bar somewhere and you can certainly smell it. Just because you're the only bar in the area doesn't mean you can let the place slide. such an interesting place, the decor is one of a kind and the art on the walls is worth looking closer to, some were very funny there is a bar area with couple of arcade games on the side, a separate room with a pool table, to the back there is a dining area with a stage where a gypsy can read your palm, cards, or magic ball and the prices range between 10-20$ short cocktails menu, two food menus with a good variety of cuisines i ordered the Herbal Remedy which tasted like soda only, very weak drink.. most of the drinks are about 8$ for food i had the lamb samosa, the lamb mix with peas was delicious wrapped in felo dough that was super oily, and served with a refreshing tzatziki sauce i also had the falafel and tabbouleh platter.. the tabbouleh was an ok salad but not tabbouleh, they substituted the bulgur with quinoa the falafel tasted like potato croquette, very crispy wasn't impressed with the food or drinks but the atmosphere was a new experience and good music the best thing in that place for me was the amazing servers/bartenders and DJ read more

I love this place, especially because it is the bar I always wanted to have at the corner. The house drink - Gypsy Juice - is great and they can make it depending upon your liquor preference. Also, the quality of food and the staff are beyond. If you leave without trying a Papsnasi (or getting one to go), you are a fool! People rave about their drinks and bar, rightfully so. My husband was psyched they carried lillet. But I heard little on the food prior to coming. The food is AMAZING. 11 people at our table and everyone raved about their food. Unique options done well. The poutine looked amazing as an overflowing plate. My dish, the falaco taco was great....a black bean fritter added to the mix was such a good choice. It was a little dry, but after adding some tzaiki sauce from my samosa appetizer, it was perfect. Prices were reasonable.... $10-$15. Cocktails were $7. Unique sultry atmosphere....reds and purples with old photos of gypsy/fortune telling women. Definitely want to return and try more. read more

Went here on a Saturday night to hear a friend perform. The inside has a really interesting and different decor which I really liked. However, the prices of the drinks and food was exorbitantly over priced. My date had a daily special that ended up being a so-so burger for $13. Worst part of the experience was the bizarre waitress who blew off our table half the time, and the other half of the time gave judging glances and comments. Last night I went to the Gypsy Parlor for the first time. We decided to get a few drinks and then decided to get food too. We drank "that bitch Genny" which is Genesee beer, blood orange juice, and bitters. It was great and a good price. For food I got the hot wings and a pastelillo. The wings were good and the pastelillo was really good! My brother got the chicken skewers which were pretty plain, I wouldn't recommend them. Fun little off the average path bar. The extensive menu includes: Russian, Irish, African, middle eastern, and beyond. Hubby had Korean short ribs and I had bahn MI poutine, both delicious. Trivia night was in full swing when we left... Next time will bring a team to play along. :-) read more
