I wish I had taken a decent photo of my gyro. It was a truly delicious gyro with a flatop grill toasted pita - one of the first ever to include enough tzatziki sauce! I had ordered extra sauce I didn't need because I was staarrrving! I had been fasting all day for labwork and picked Gyro Stop because well, I love gyros, the reviews of Gyro Stop were good and it was only a mile away from where I'd had my lab drawn. There were no customers in the place when I got there; but after me they had a very healthy stream of business for 2:30 in the afternoon. The menu is a nice short offering of terrific sounding sandwiches. They are keeping perfection simple here with combos, platters, salads and sides all in the same Chicagoland style and Mediterranean theme. My gyro had a thick yet tender toasted pita that fully supported the stuffing of flavorful gyro meat, onions, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, feta, and tzatziki sauce. ($5.49 plus 49 cents each for the extra tzatziki and feta/lettuce). Of course, I made a mess eating all that. They also offer a Chicken Shawarma sandwich and wrap, Falafel sandwich, Italian Beef, Vienna Beef Chicago Style Hotdog, Angus Hamburger, and a Grilled Chicken sandwich with prices ranging from $3.99 for the hotdog to $5.99 for the Shawarma. Add two bucks for a small drink and fries combo. They have Greek, Caesar, Mediterranean and House Salads with prices ranging from $4.49 - $6.49. Chicken Shawarma and gyro plates give you a choice of two sides with sides being hummus, falafel, rice and fries. Baklava from a bakery is available for $1.49 a piece or $2.49 for two. I was really ready for something sweet and they filled the need. I found the second piece a little aged and it wasn't as pleasurable as the first. Still, it wasn't difficult to eat at all. I'm not even sure why it has taken me so long to stop in for a bite to eat, but today was the day I made time and I'm so glad I did. Even in the midst of a pandemic it appears everyone flocks to this place. Social distancing was very much alive which was a great feeling upon walking in. When I got to the register to place my order I was greeted and decided to go with the daily lunch special, which was a gyro, fries and drink for $6.99. There were quite a few people ahead of me so I expected to wait at least 15 min or so for my take out order. Wrong!!! It took maybe 5 minutes which is very impressive with the small crowd they already had waiting. I got my food and headed home. While driving the aroma was so nice I couldn't help but grab fries minutes into my drive home. Lord they were piping hot and seasoned perfectly. And not to mention the fries were plentiful. I arrived home and broke open the gyro...JESUS!!! It was so good and flavorful. I'd also bet this one order is enough for two people to share. Menu includes Italian beef sandwiches (wet and dry), hot dogs w Chicago-type toppings, gyros, and Sharma. I had the gyro and fries and enjoyed it quite a bit. My wife had the Italian beef (dipped, but the au jus on the side) and fries. With a can of soda and. Bottle of water, the bill came to about $22. Restaurant is counter service with seats for about 20 people, but I saw more online orders go out than sit-down customers coming in. My only real complaint about the location is that it's SO blasted hot; it's probably the open spit with the stake of gyro meat, as the temp was an issue the last time I stopped in here about 2 years ago. While I'm sure they're traditional fast food items (hot dogs, burgers, fries) are good, their chicken schwarma plate felt like a knock off of the real thing. Although the chicken was seasoned nicely, it was more plain chicken than chicken schwarma and the rice was plain white rice unlike flavorful rice I'm used to. The pita bread seemed straight out of the bag and chewy, while the hummus was so sour I couldn't eat more than two bites. The best part of the plate was the Greek salad which is hard to mess up. At the corner of a small strip mall where the old Quiznos used to be you will find Gyro Stop. Lots of Mediterranean eateries have been popping up around town so I just had to give this a try as well! The menu is very simple: a selection of either gyros/shawarma/beef sandwich combos with fries or a platter with a meat, 2 sides, and some pita bread. Expect to spend around $8-$10. Since I love chicken shawarma, I decided to give the platter a try. With my 2 side selections I got hummus and fries. I usually opt for rice, but I was shocked to find out there is no rice option! While the meat was juicy and tender, it was a small portion. The hummus was good, fries and pita bread were the usual taste. The garlic sauce and chili sauce mixed very well together with the meat--sauces were free of charge. Next time I will probably just try the Gyro, I mean they had to have named it Gyro Stop for a reason! The staff was friendly and attentive, and my meal was served very quickly. A little taste of Chi-town here in lil' old Mansfield? Hells-yes! I stumbled across this new restaurant while searching for NOT-fast food nearby and what a find. We've always been fans of gyro meat, the spices and freshness of Medi food but throw in some comfort-food by way of Chicago hot dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches and you have a winner every time. The restaurant is located in a strip mall on Debbie Ln, facing the Target complex. It's very clean, tastefully decorated with plenty of foodie-friendly imagery and sports a decent supply of tables and seating without feeling cramped. The counter is along the back wall and provides an open view into the cooking/prep area along the wall. No secrets here which I appreciate. The food we had on this virgin-visit consisted of: Chicago Hot Dog- all beef dog in a poppy-seed bun, slice of pickle, tomato, yellow mustard, sport pepper - a long skinny with some heat, but not much and glowy-green relish. One thing missing was the celery salt but I didn't notice until writing this review. Italian Beef - thinly sliced beef layered in a crusty sub roll and then dunked (made "wet") in Au'jus for a little extra flavor and texture. Hot pepper-relish called Giardiniera was added on top. Man, this badboy was packed with meat and not for the faint of heart. You almost need a bib and shovel. Gyro Salad (custom request) - so far for this fam, the "one to beat" in regards to Medi-salads is the "Shepard's Salad" from Istanbul Grill. Any chance we get to order a similar preparation without causing too much trouble we do, and Gyro Stop was more than happy to accommodate. They gave us a "Vegetarian Salad" which is diced Tomato, Cucumber, Radish, Onion, Lemon juice and Olive oil with fresh spices and added the Gyro meat on top. It was not a giant portion but easily enough to be a meal and was priced accordingly. They also make burgers and were showing off some lovely deserts (baklava etc) but I didn't try any on this visit. This little gem is tucked away in a shopping center. The store front has pictures of food that can lead to confusion about the type of restaurant that it is. I know I was confused to see hot dogs and hamburgers. The restaurant occupancy is about 35. It is snail and VERY clean. The cashier greeted greeted us immediately upon entering. The menu is posted on the wall. Food prep area is seen from the dining area. When food is ready they place it on the counter and call you. I ordered the chicken schwarma plate and my fiance has the lamb gyro. My plate comes with 2 sides. I had rice, pita bread, salad and for 75c more I got hummus. Everything on my my plate was delicious but my fiance gyro was even better! The lamb was spot on. So tender and tasty.. it was heavenly. The customer service is excellent. They checked up on us several times. They asked if we liked our food. They asked if we needed anything else. They picked up empty plates from from our table. They said goodbye to us. I would recommend music or something in the background because it was awkwardly silent in there as there were not many people eating.
