H&A Auto is awesome. My 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid needed a 30,000 mile service, so after looking at numerous Yelp reviews, I called Jeff and asked if I could bring my car in. I brought my car for only an oil change which was reasonable price, but they noticed my sun visor was missing (I had been wanting to get it, but I was too lazy). They didn't have the parts, but they told me they could go get it right away, so I decided to buy one there. They changed the oil, went to get the parts, and installed the parts within A HOUR! Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find this wonderful mechanic! My car was having problems with the ignition even after a local dealer performed the recall service. The dealer agreed to re-do the service for free only if the problem was the exact same one they addressed -- otherwise, they'd slap on a $100+ diagnostic fee plus repair fees. I took my car to Gary for some advice before sending it back to the dealer and within minutes of examining my car, he was able to identify the problem and sent me on my merry way. He was very patient and friendly, listening to all my concerns and questions about my poorly maintained Honda. The dealer fixed my car but then found other problems. Instead of having them repair it, I took the car back to Gary who told me the dealers didn't even do a thorough job of inspecting my battery. How do they know the cables are ruined if they didn't even clear the corrosion to check it?? He set me up with a new battery and even fixed a light bulb that blew. His prices are extremely fair and probably better than any other local mechanic, unless you are somehow related to your mechanic. His super mechanic certificates are neatly framed on his wall, next to a bulletin of accolades from previous customers. As long as I drive a Honda, I will bring my car to Gary. read more

I give 2 stars because I did not actually have any work done here and cannot speak to their quality. I did not have any work done here because when I called, I was quoted their hourly rate for a diagnostic on my 2004 Honda Accord. I said to Gary, "So let me get this straight, you have no idea how long it will take you to diagnose my car. You will charge me $95/hr so if it takes you 5 hours to diagnose my car, you will charge me $475 just to tell me what's wrong. And what's wrong could be a $300 problem??" When Gary said yes, exactly. I thanked him for his time on the phone and said goodbye. I then went to Autowave in Huntington Beach. $110 and 2 hours later I was told exactly what was wrong with the car. When my Honda started making a weird noise I wasn't sure where to go. Someone recommended H & A auto so I gave them a call, and even though they were busy they worked with me, and Chris made time to see me. Upon arrival, Chris took my car for a drive so he could hear the sound as well. He inspected it and located the sound, he didn't try to push anything, no selling or pitch--he was down to earth and reassured me that it wasn't a major issue (just my sway bar making noise!) I'm giving this place 5 stars even though I've never been there! Let me explain. I was having troubles with my truck and feared I had steering or alignment problems. So I called these guys to make an appointment (based on solid Yelp reviews). After I described the symptoms, the man on the phone said "you have a tire problem--go to a tire shop." So I did, and he was absolutely right! You have to respect someone who will give free, honest advice that actually results in less business for him! Let's say the check engine light comes on in your 13-year-old Honda Accord. Crap, you think, now what? You could take it to the dealer, or one of those franchise shops, where they'll tell you it'll be 90 bucks to check it out, drop it off and we'll call you. So you spend the morning fretting and dreading the call, which when it comes they tell you it was just a loose gas cap, but their 10,000 point inspection revealed that all your belts are old (car's 13 years old, duh) and they can replace them for only $900. So you say no, pay your 90 bucks, pick up your car and drive off worrying about immenent belt failure. Or, you go to H&A, where Gary says, "Let's check it out", grabs his computer thingy, plugs it in, and says "loose gas cap". He tightens it, and you're on your way. No wait, no upsell, no bill even. They are fantastic!!! Faster and much better prices than H Heaven and obviously, the dealership. Check out my review for H Heaven for more details about pricing, but Gary saved me hundreds over H Heaven and was much more honest about what work I really needed to get done. He takes the extra steps to make sure that components really have to be replaced and is extremely friendly. He is fast, high quality and reasonable. He is about middle of the road in price, but his workmanship is flawless and you will get only factory parts installed in your car. He takes appointments and will finish in the time quoted you. He will not oversell you and will tell you all the options available to fix the problem. Gary also has a vehicle inspection service available. If you are going to buy a used Honda or Acura and want someone to inspect it for you Gary is your man. He has performed this service for several of my friends and he will find any and all problems with the vehicle in question. His price for this service is very reasonable and it could save you thousands in time, money and headaches. I am like everyone else. Having the dilemma of yelping about a great place and then having everyone go because it really is that great. Or keeping it a secret so you can have it all to yourself with a consequence of not helping to increase the business of something that is great. H&A Auto is one of those places. Everyone knows finding a great mechanic is almost impossible nowadays and without the help of "yelp", I would probably be getting tune ups and repairs done at an overpriced dealer. I went in to get my 30k mile tuneup and I would say that Gary is fast, efficient, and resonably priced. He didn't upsale me on anything and didn't try and pressure me to get additional work done on my car that I didn't want to. So with that, I just wanted to give H&A Auto another review with another 5 stars so that more people can know about this place, but just don't tell too many people. read more

The only reason I decided to go to this place was due to the reviews on here. Well every single one was completely correct. Gary was very nice and addressed my concerns about my check engine light coming on. Within 10 minutes he already had a answer about what the problem was as well as stating since it was minor I could get it taken care of at a muffler shop due to the cost of a oem part from honda vs a after market one. I have never heard of any repair Business giving that type of information. I may not have gotten work done by him but I sure will soon with my 100000 mile maintenance already needed. We need more honest people and businesses like this as they are to few and far between so many scam places out there. I'm a person who mostly does things on cars myself, because of this I haven't taken my car to a mechanic in a very long time. When I started to feel a weird vibration in my truck at highway speeds I knew I didn't have the time to diagnose and fix it myself due to work. I looked around at dozens of mechanics on Yelp trying to find one that seemed trust-worthy and had good reviews. That's when I found H&A Auto. I was able to send the shop a message directly over Yelp from my phone while I was at work. Within just a few hours Jeff responded and helped me to set up an appointment for the very next morning to have my truck looked at. Jeff met me personally at the shop and took the truck. I received a call withing ONE HOUR confirming that the universal drive-shaft joints had gone bad. Jeff had the drive-shaft taken off the car, replaced the U-Joints, and even sent the driveshaft out to be re-balanced/powder coated. I had my car back the next morning, absolutely no vibration. Jeff met me personally again to go over the repair and show me what he had done. The entire job cost $280, which in my book is insanely reasonable for the amount of work he did, as well as the re-balancing and powder-coating. I left my car there, but if you do have to wait for your car, their shop front is super clean and has nice chairs. They also had a back-door open to the area with the lifts and everything was spotless on the floor and work benches. Overall, this was one of my best experiences at a mechanic ever, I would highly recommend this shop, I know who I'm going to in the future when I'm in a time crunch again. Thanks H&A! read more

Hello Yelp folks. I have a high mileage Honda Pilot 4x4 that needed a front drivers side axle. I had it diagnosed by a local Honda Dealer and they quoted me almost $600 for new Honda parts. I used the Yelp "Request a Quote" feature and reached out to 6 independent shops including H&A Auto. It was really convenient and I will definitely use it again. I asked a ton of questions to all the shops about labor time, cost, warranty, and whatever else that came to mind. Jeff always responded promptly and provided clear guidance. After almost 2 weeks of debate, I made my choice. He confirmed my early Saturday appointment on Friday evening. When we met in the morning, we discussed the overall history of the vehicle while he did a quick inspection. I had never met Jeff before and he was professional and friendly. I authorized the axle replacement and a few routine service items. He finished the work as promised and only did those routine items that were necessary. A couple weeks ago, I needed a minor service for my Honda. I have not been happy with Honda Santa Ana lately, and have been looking for a different service. Thank God for Yelp to come to my rescue. I read the reviews and made an appointment. When I arrived, Gary asked if I'm the one who needs a minor service. I said yes, and I'll be waiting. Now the waiting room is small and it's clean. I've learned since the recession that just because something looks fancy, it doesn't mean the work will be good. That said, Gary was very dependable, quick and efficient. The work was great, and I didn't have to wait long (about 1 hour), and my car was very happy afterwards. Plus it was $20 cheaper than the dealer. I've been bringing my car to Gary for several years now, and I always know he will look out for me. My check engine light came on one day, and (being the panicky person I am and thinking my car is about to explode) I took it straight to H&A. I told Gary that nothing seemed wrong, but the light was on, so please take a look. He hopped in the car, drove it around the block to see if he could hear any issues (he didn't), and came back in after checking under the hood. Turned out the sensor was dirty. That's it. He didn't charge me some exorbitant amount. He didn't try to pull anything on me like my headlight fluid or elbow grease needs to be topped off. He told me the exact truth and sent me on my way. Found these great guys on yelp, they figured it would be minor and agreed to look at it anyway. $15 dollars later, I'm on my way. They charged me for the part and a tiny little bit of labor. Man oh man, H&A Auto is awesome! Gary is the owner and lead-mechanic and is REALLY nice and generous. When I first brought my car in to Gary he was brief with words, but that's just because he is soft-spoken and very busy. Getting to know him he is actually very friendly and can talk all day when he has the time :) His work is impeccable (I think he has won national awards), his prices are reasonable, and he has always accommodated me on short notice. He also prioritizes fixes, so while he may identify an issue, he'll be honest with you and let you know how long you can get by before you need to fix it. His receptionist Cathy is also really awesome. She is really friendly, and on one occasion offered to drive me to my work just down the street while I left my car in the shop. Like another reviewer, I found this place because I was looking on yelp for something close by, and this was one of the few with consistently high reviews. My car was making a very strange sound while I was driving it at highway speeds, so I took it in on a Saturday afternoon with short notice. I'm always a bit wary when I take my car to a new auto shop, but from the very first phone call Jeff and his staff were friendly and professional. After spending several hours diagnosing the problem, he came to the conclusion that it wasn't a mechanical issue and that the debris that had gotten caught under the hood was responsible for the strange sounds. He apologized for it taking so long, didn't charge me, and sent me on my way. I even got a call several days later to check and make sure that my car was running fine, which it was. This place specializes in the following: Honda, Acura, Toyota, and Lexus, so if you have one of those four vehicles you definitely want to bring it to Jeff and his team. Such a sad excuse for a legitimate operation. Was told to bring in my car that won't go into reverse. This isn't an automatic transmission overhaul job and knowing this I wanted to get an opinion from someone who was highly rated. I Call in the morning and they tell me to bring my car in. I ready the car have to find a jump start for it get it warmed up and going. Keep in mind this isn't the safest car to take on the streets because of the reverse problem. I take it in and the front desk guy asks his boss if we can take a look at it. The shameless boss without even turning around says no. Why would you guys make me go through all this work, tell me you guys can take a look at it and then when it comes time to follow through say no. Take your money elsewhere. read more
