Great place! I've had quite a bit of work done on my 2001 Honda Accord over the years and used to go to another local mechanic and although he did great work and provided fair prices, he didn't have a timely turnaround and I would have to wait a few days-weeks to get my car back. This time around I decided to try a new place and I was recommended to H&A Auto by my brother-in-law. Jeff went above and beyond to provide fast and quality service! Did a transmission drain and fill on my Lexus. Quality work with very reasonable price. The owner informed me beforehand that they don't have a lot of fluid for my car in stock, so I'm not surprised that the fluid is about half a quart low after the job is done. Picked up some fluid on my way home, topped off the fluid and it's been great ever since. I can tell you one thing: they are honest people in H&A. Unlike some repair shops with fancy building, coffee machines and shark-like fake smiles everywhere and loaners lining up for customers dying to rip you off, H&A does honest works. You show up with your vehicle, tell them what needs to be done, and they get it done exactly as you wish. Customer service was exceptional and Jeff was very kind! Waited a few minutes and the service took about ten minutes. I asked for quotes through yelp earlier in the day and the owner Jeff, responded quickly. He remembered my name when I walked in a few hours later and went right to business. I had a very easy problem to fix. My fuse for my cigarette lighter died out so I asked if he can install the fuses I bought. Turns out I bought the wrong size, but Jeff used the correct fuses he offers for purchase at his store. I asked how much it was and he said it was on the house! I saw they had positive reviews on Yelp, and I decided to take our car here. We were afraid that we'd be on their dollar since we were not from here. That wasn't the case at all. I have previously gone to the dealer to have my car serviced...then recently, I took my 2006 Honda to H&A for routine servicing at the recommendation of my cousin. This was by far my least stressed-out service visit--ever. The dealer shop had said that I needed to do a couple of (expensive) things that the guys said did not really need to be done now. I guess it is true that dealers want to over-sell you, but not the care at H&A. Jeff and Kris are very personable and they took great care of my car. Jeff has vast experience and expertise. both mechanical and technical, with Honda and Toyota cars. It is comforting to know that he has such a depth of knowledge when he works on my car. The shop is clean and the waiting area is comfortable. I had put off my visit to H&A because it is a half hour away--I wish that I had not done that. The old Yelpers did not lead me astray... Had my clutch (and associated components) replaced as well as new front brake pads with a resurface on the rotors. I was able to get my car in the shop for service much sooner than expected and the job was done in a day, as promised. Everything is working great and I couldn't be happier. Great experience. I emailed Jeff to get a quote on some routine maintenance for my Honda Fit, and he responded back quickly & with all the information I needed. I was able to bring in my car first thing in the morning the next day (They are closed on Mondays-which is when I requested the quote). The first time I went there I really liked him and his honesty. However, after going back a second and third time I have changed my review from 5 starts to 2 stars. 1) There is no room to sit, very small shop. 2) He isn't very friendly, and won't budge on the pricing- which would be fine but he charges at same rate as the dealership. 3) Although Gary came off as very honest the first encounter, my second and third time there weren't as pleasant. They called me and told me the price to fix something was twice what he estimated- 2 hours after I had dropped the car off and he had inspected it in front of me. After I said I can't afford it and will take it somewhere else somehow magically he realized he was wrong again and they "went ahead and fixed it " as I went to pick up my car. 4) He wanted to charge me Higher than the Honda dealership for basic things like a new battery and a 60k scheduled maintenance. read more

Had a airbag light come on my 02 Mdx acura had a service appt at acura dealership. They said they only cover seatbelt buckle under warranty if they find the correct code for it and they wanted to charge me a $150 diagnostic fee if anything is wrong. Not feeling 100% confident in dealerships services I called H & A and they said they would be able to pull the codes for me and went in first thing and Jeff I believe who is the owner and his team got right to work on my car. I got the answer I was looking for as well piece of mind. Jeff himself was just very sincere and honest. Gary is very helpful over the phone. I haven't used him personally because he is quite far but I would recommend him to my female friends from my multiple interactions with him on the phone. His prices are very reasonable and he seems pretty patient when I ask him a question. Update 3/5/11: My friend brought her Lexus there. He ended up repairing things that was already recently done at another mechanic even though she did not ask for the repair to be done. Unfortunately, my friend had to pay for the services again, although Gary is an pretty honest guy. He definitely knows his Hondas and Acuras better than Toyotas and Lexus. I even double checked to make sure he was comfortable taking care of Toyotas and Lexus before telling my friend to go there and he said to bring her Lexus in. I swear Gary is the best mechanic "Honda Specialist" EVER. As a woman it has always been extremely hard for me to find an honest, quality mechanic that won't rip me off and then pretend that they are helping me out. I went to 3 other places before I was referred to him and after visiting Gary I found out that they all had lied to me. Gary is very sweet and patient and if I ask questions he takes the time to show me the parts that are bad and even explain things when I ask. I am so glad that my boyfriend's father referred me to him. Whenever I have an issue I just call Gary up and let him know what's going on and he let's me know when he can fit me in his schedule. Yesterday my check engine light came on and I freaked out, I called him and he said "bring it in today whenever you can". When I got there he took his gadget out to my car in the front parking lot and quickly came back and said that the ignition wires were after-market, going bad, & needed to be replaced. I asked him if he could to it. His wife quickly went and picked up the part and as soon as she got back I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. Now that's service! Tomorrow I am taking my car back for the 150,000 mile service and he will get her up and running as good as new like always! So i've been here before at least 3 times. I usually don't write reviews unless they are extremely bad or good. However...this one is kind of a mixed feeling. Why do i said that? Well, i went to Gary to have him check out my car's acceleration problem. After 3 test drives, he found nothing wrong with it (maybe i'm too sensitive with my car) and he doesn't charge me a cent. What a great guy...or so i thought. Next day, car won't start at all...call him again, and i barely made it to the shop... Only to received a bill of $350 for bad alternator. It was perfectly fine until yesterday...what a coincidence. Fortunately, my car doesn't die on the way. Now i'm sitting here...spending the rest of my morning yelping. I expected to pay a whole lot of money because I wasn't sure what was wrong. I find out that a small piece needed to be changed for my brake lights to function properly. And to a great surprise, I only paid $5 for the part. He didn't even charge for labor! Well, it took him literally 2 seconds to change it, but still. I only reference Yelp when I want or need to try a new place for whatever reason (food, services, etc.). I only write reviews if I've had such a terrible experience that I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what I did OR if I've had such an amazing/mind blowing experience that I just had to share it with the rest of the online community. Fortunately, this review is because of the latter. Read on if you want the details... I had this reoccurring power steering problem with my Acura for about a year. My car would make this dreadful squeeling/creeking noise every time I turned the steering wheel left and right and sometimes even at idle. It was so loud that people would stare at my car with concern as I back out of a parking spot or make a turn into a street. On top of that I also had a power steering fluid leak that I knew was related to the noise. I visited 5 different mechanics within a 1 year time span and even got my power steering pump replaced through the first mechanic I consulted. I got the run around when the noise didn't completely go away and the 4 other mechanics I consulted each gave me a different diagnostic ranging from replacing the power steering pump (which I just did) to bleeding out the whole system because air got in it. A different story from each freakin' mechanic! I recently moved to the Costa Mesa/Santa Ana area and read the reviews for H&A Auto. I was so fed up with the noises and leak and the reviews were impressive so I gave Gary a call. I told him what was going on and he immediately said "it's the suction O-ring" with NO HESITATION whatsoever. I was skeptical from my prior experiences with mechanics so I asked if he could take a look at it in person just so that there would be no mistake in his diagnostic. He said "OK come by in 30 minutes" and so I did. When I arrived I was greeted by a lady in the office who I believe is Gary's wife. I then sat in the waiting room for about 5 minutes before he took the car to the work area. Not only was he correct in his diagnostic, but he also gave me the run down on other mechanical issues with my car that were printed out on the receipt. No BS about having to fix this or that or else...just recommendations with corresponding quotes to fix each issue.I was in and out in less than an hour and the noise was completely gone and so far the leak has stopped. The price for the work was fair as well. This has got to be the most pleasant experience I've ever had with a mechanic and I'm definitely bringing my car back to him. Great customer service, reasonable prices, and extremely knowledgeable in his craft...if these are things you value in an auto repair shop H&A Auto is the place to go! This place is fantastic!!! Breath of fresh air in regards to auto mechanics. I needed a battery replaced after I purchased one from an auto store. I called 5 different places all asking over 100 dollars to do the swap. I called H & A Auto and he told me over the phone 10 to 15 bucks. When I got there, he performed the task in less then 20 minutes and didn't charge me. I couldn't believe it. I have referred everyone I know to this place. Don't waste your time with anyone else. I have known the owner, Gary for about 10 years now. That says something about the man considering how hard I am to please. He has always been honest, fair, & proud of his work. He is more knowledgeable than any of the Honda mechanics at dealers. You might want to take your Honda or Acura during the week as he is backed up on Saturdays. My 2008 Civic had a problem and the rude service men at Honda Santa Ana dealer did not care to look at it the two times I took my car there. I checked reviews on here and went to see Gary. He spent lot of time on my car, went through every detail he could think of and fixed it. He also topped the fluids and did the regular maintenance and when I looked at the final bill, it was a lot lower than what I had expected.
