This restaurant knowingly allowed someone with a stolen credit card to purchase food from them. I live out of state, and was notified that someone used my credit card to purchase almost $40 dollars worth of food. I immediately called the restaurant to let them know. Whoever answered the phone at 6pm on 11/13/2018 quite literally hung up on me as soon as I said that someone used a stolen credit card. Knowing this, they still prepared and sold food when the person/persons came nearly half an hour later to pick up whatever they ordered. My guilty pleasure! The only reason I can't give this place any more stars is simply because of the cleanliness of this establishment, but this isn't the type of place you really go to for visual aesthetics. It's that place you go to when you have that midnight craving and nothing else is opened. I love it simply because being from NY this is one of the only places that truly reminds me of NY, because if you've ever been, we have every type of Kansas, Kennedy, or Crown Fried Chicken you can think of...not to mention the fact that you can get almost everything there from fried chicken and fries to a deliciously greasy steak and cheese with provolone cheese, bacon, salt, pepper, and a little bit of mayo. It stays open usually until about 4am. I've personally never seen it closed. but I think that's the time they are scheduled to close. The guys working there were really nice and chill, and we got a TON of food for under $20. I believe it was 16 pieces of chicken, mac n cheese, greens and rolls. Some of the chicken pieces were small so it made them dry and mostly fried, but the bigger pieces were surprisingly tasty. Not the best fried chicken I've ever had but still a good option (and really the only option on a Sunday night). Greens and rolls were pretty standard, nothing to scream about. The mac n cheese was so yummy. I love the super thick cafeteria-style cheesy mac n cheese, which this obviously was. Not high-end but I love anything fatty and cheesy. I give it 3 stars because it isn't the most delicious fried chicken i've ever had, but the owners are nice and the food is decent, especially with the limited options on H street at night. Crown Fried Chicken is amazing. Over the last year it's been a go-to for me whenever I want dinner or drunk food. Personally, I feel a lot of the sides are lacking in one thing or another, but that doesn't matter because the chicken is very, very delicious. And if you don't mind a greasy one, the Steak and Cheese is also amazing. Notably, when you order it they just ask what you want on it instead of you having to say what you don't want. That should be the way all basic sandwiches are ordered. The clientele is not for everyone. Crown Fried Chicken is a delicious leftover from H street's less...reputable days. And it's right by an X2 stop, of all routes. It's not like the people are dangerous, but they're definitely animated. Late at night (or even in the middle of the day sometimes) one or more might be drunk and yelling. But you can always call ahead if you want. One guy that works the counter most of the time (used to be all the time) sometimes looks like he's on something, but again he's never hostile. Just red-faced and sweaty. I don't understand how they can serve food this good this cheap. I've been going here for many years, on and off, and I've always been satisfied with the food here. The sides are pretty average but cheap and compliment any main course. The fried chicken and hot wings are fresh and juicy. The cheese steak is something that any fan would rate highly. It's six dollars and comes fully loaded and the steak is fresh and plentiful, hands down one of the best things on the menu. Did I mention fries and a soda are included in those six bucks? The only slight problem is that there are always gangs of young men, and some women, standing outside doing nothing and sometimes mildly harassing customers.
