H Bistro serves overpriced homestyle Cantonese food, the taste is alright so I do give the chef some credits. But they ain't memorial either. The portion is small for the price they charge, the chicken wing appetizer is the biggest rip-over I've encountered in a while. Yes it's stuffed with sticky rice so extra labor is needed there but the stock rice isn't memorable and $10 for one small wing cut in half? You gotta be kidding me. The XO seafood dish and the beef chow fun is alright, but A+ does both of them better so I see no point of coming here for those dishes. The lamb casserole is rich but my companion complained about the overly gamey taste but that's just personal preference. Awesome HK style restaurant in Chinatown, with a deceptively area for seating than it appears from the outside. We happened upon this place while visiting and decided to give it a try. I of course ordered a feast for my little self. I got to practice my Cantonese speaking skills here and to my surprise I was able to order accurately(with the help of the waiter) and my tones are still on point. Haha. Service is quick and friendly and the menus have pictures on them for non Chinese speakers. This place is a gem! I should preface this by saying that we ordered take out from here on Christmas Day (put in the order one day in advance). H Bistro has started a new tradition in our household because the food was SO good! We ordered the house spare ribs (in sauce), Kung Pao Chicken, House Fried Rice, House Chow Mein, 2 orders of mini egg rolls, and dumplings. Let's start with the appetizers: the egg rolls and dumplings. The dumplings were crisp and flavorful, as were the mini egg rolls - which, in my opinion, are NOT so mini which I am 1000% ok with because these egg rolls managed to stay crispy even though we ordered take out. They didn't even need the sauce on the side because they satisfied everything you wouldn't want in an egg roll which is 1) awesome flavor and 2) a crisp, non-greasy shell. Entrees were delicious too! The kung pao sauce was a perfect consistency (not too thick or too runny), had a ton of cool veggies mixed in, and packed a ton of flavor because of it. The spare ribs were SURPRISINGLY tender and the sauce... well, I don't know what it was but it was DELISH. Don't skip out on these little babies. The chow mein and fried rice were everything I could have wanted and more. The fried rice had big, delicious chunks of meat which was such a nice surprise since I've grown accustomed to the tiny pieces most places give you. The chow mein was indulgent and could easily serve like 4 people alone; though I was pretty tempted to just take the whole to-go box for myself because it was so good. All in all, this place is now my go-to takeout spot. I haven't dined in but with the service I got picking up, I would gladly come back in for a sit down meal. Not only was the food delicious, but my food was also fresh, on time and picking up was a breeze. I decided to try out this place based on amazing Yelp reviews since the food pickup experience at my fav Cantonese restaurant (Hong Kong Bistro) has been iffy the past couple of times. I placed an order for delivery through Chowbus for beef short ribs with black pepper sauce, honey walnut prawns and kung pao chicken. The food was packaged well for delivery but after checking the quantity it seemed a little overpriced. Now I know that food delivery apps do markup the price of the items but even considering the original price it was overpriced. I've included the price receipt (before tax/fees/tip). Coming to the taste: * Kung Pao chicken: This had to be one of the worst tasting "kung pao" chicken dish I have ever tried. It was a mix of lots of celery with some onions/chestnuts/bell pepper mixed with some sambal olek and a few peanuts thrown in. Not only did it not taste like Kung Pao chicken, it didnt even taste good. There was no Wok char flavor either. * Honey walnut prawns: The oil used for frying walnuts and the prawns was old and had a stale oil flavor. Overall taste would have been decent had the restaurant used better oil. Less quantity of prawns for the price. * Short ribs in black pepper sauce: This was an okay dish but a couple of short rib pieces were completely made of fat and inedible. It's a relatively new restaurant (open 5 months at time of review), but I've been wanting to go for a while. This place is my go-to when I am craving authentic Cantonese. Some dishes on the menu are regional dishes of the Wuyi/Siyi region of Canton/ Guangdong province and remind me so much of home. Their specials are especially good, great flavors and very authentic. There were a couple of dishes I've tried but not 100% happy with. My husband and wanted to dine at A+ Kitchen, but the line was extremely long, so we decided to give H Bistro a try. We were seated immediately, we went in during noon, amazed that the restaurant was so quiet for the busy hustle and bustle of Chinatown on the weekend. We were extremely hungry so we ordered and appetizer plus two entrees. The Stuffed Chicken Wings piqued our curiosity so we decided to give it a try. The wings were very crispy on the outside, and deliciously stuffed with sticky rice on the inside. The only downside was that we only had two halves, it was not worth the price. We then ordered the House Special Chow Mein with Crispy Noodle, it was very flavorful. I grew up in Guangzhou (Canton) and H Bistro is my favorite Cantonese style restaurant in Seattle. The servers are super friendly, the decor is clean and modern, and the food is A++. It perfectly captures the Cantonese ideals of fresh ingredients, savory sauces, and a lighter clean taste (fewer spices). And the food is plated beautifully - the chef must have formal training. Came here around 8pm on a Friday night and it was pretty empty. It was just us and a table of 10. My partner has came here for lunch 2 times this week and said the lunch is great for the price. Lots to choose from. Even for vegetarian. The specials menu on the wall was limited and the rest was written in Chinese. I ordered the enoki Mushrooms with Japanese style tofu hot pot. And the cashew prawns. The hot pot was delicious, came out sizzling and yummy full of delicious slices of tofu. The tofu is similar to baked tofu but soft like a bean curd in the inside. I would give a 4 star just for this dish. The cashew prawn was pretty Lack luster and bland. The food came out super fast. Very fast service. Although we had to ask for chili sauce since the dishes had zero spice levels. It was nice to have hot tea that came with it. Overall the inside was clean, fast service, good options. Mediocre. My family and I went for Chinese New Year dinner and we had dinner early so it wasn't busy at all. We ordered some off the menu: abalone and sea cucumber some on the menu items: soy sauce noodles, salted egg stir fry crab, lamb stone pot, garlic pea vines, Peking duck, lettuce wrap, crab fish maw soup and couple other dishes that slipped my mind. The abalone and sea cucumber was ok. $20/abalone and we had 5, so I'm not sure how much that dish alone was. Obviously $100+. All the dishes were meh, I've had better. The crab was different though. The salted egg was somehow "crispy" and in small chunks. It was a dry stir fry type rather than a saucy crab dish. Pea vine was nice and young but lack flavor. Lettuce wrap was missing some color to the point that I didn't even bother trying. Peking duck was Peking duck, it's not yum and it wasn't horrible. How do you go wrong with it? Lamb pot, was not good what so ever. Can't even describe. We barely ate it.. The soup was the best highlight for me. My son had two bowls of it! Rich with flavor and it reminded me of my mother's when she use to make it when I was a kid. By the time we were done there were one larger table next to us and another waiting for our table. We were given a fruit salad of watermelon, apples and oranges as dessert on a bowl of ice. Bill came out to $357! I suppose that's right but steep for something I didn't find impressive. The waiter was nice enough to take the lamb off our bill. He obviously saw that we didn't eat that dish therefore not caring for it. So imagine if we were billed for that.. nearly 4bills for a dinner that we could've gone else where for the similar type of Chinese food but better. The first time it was the Mongolia Beef and I am happy to say, it is a step up from it competitors in the ID.
