I really enjoyed the sesame balls. They're known for their rice rolls, which were pretty good and authentic. It's set up like a regular restaurant where you order off a menu, rather than traditional dim sum carts. Rice rolls were a little heavy, since it's heavy on the changfen. read more

Not a fan. Our usual dim sum place was closed so thought we'd try out this place. The shrimp rolls fell apart so it's hard to tell how many rolls were in our order, and shrimp didn't taste fresh. First time here yesterday. Surprised that we've never been here before. Nothing particularly enticing with this place. It's a simple hole in the wall joint. The space is small, with a glass counter. It has a few tables, maybe 5. There's a cash register where you pay for takeout items. The servers are quick and efficient. We had an order of Char Siu Pao, which were huge and enough filling. The bun was soft and tasty. We also had Ham Sai Kok, which were were equally huge and perfectly made. We'll surely be back to try other things in the menu. The place where I usually go for take out dim sum was closed, so I asked yelp to find me another. This was a suggestion. There was street parking available, so I decided to go inside. They do not have as many options as the other place, but I was only looking for siu mai and har gao. I asked for one order, so I could try it. Parking is terrible (it is the ID, after all), and don't be discouraged by what may look like empty display cases (a lot is in steamers and in the case). There have been many name changes over the years, but there are some things that stay the same. The most important is their mix of walk-up to-go service, or sit-down service. The other thing you notice is their selection of Chinese pastries, and choices of dim sum selections ready for walk-out orders. Har gow, shiu mei, beef meatballs. It's there. They also have deep fried sesame balls, and steamed or baked humboa. There are also other pastries but you have to see for yourself. In my case, I chose for sit down service. I ordered the basics of har gow, shiu mei, and beef meatballs. But I also ordered the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf. I also ordered my favorite side of steamed rice cakes. There are other favorites like deep fried chicken wings, beef chow fun, or steamed gai lan. Their menu will guide you. Be advised, this is not a full restaurant - but a simple dim sum only restaurant. And that is beautiful! Parking is a little difficult, as is the nature of dining in the Seattle Chinatown-International District. But their bathrooms desperately need to be remodeled. Hole in the wall alert! Nice little walk up dim sum counter, they do have dine in seating available as well but the vibes feel like more of a grab and go place. Sticky rice was incredible, one of the best I've ever had. Everything else was decent. The shrimp/rice noodle was a bit disjointed but tasty nevertheless. My last review of Homestyle Dim Sum was almost 5 years ago. A lot has happened since then with the pandemic, Asian Hate vandalisms and break-ins, increased homelessness and crime in the neighborhood, hyper-inflation, and now bird flu affecting cost and availability of their baked goods. Homestyle has largely stayed consistent and, luckily, afloat, throughout these past years. With the price of eggs, I noticed they sell much fewer pastries that require eggs. I still come for dim sum take-outs (vs. dine-in). The same ladies who worked here when this place opened replacing Duk Li Dum Sum are still here. The restaurant did two small maintenance type of remodeling, keeping this modest restaurant functional in an old building. I support mom and pop businesses. This is one of those businesses. I am writing this update mostly to post the latest menu photos. They don't have a website, so it is important to have these photos handy. For lunar new year, we ordered two noodle dishes, one beef, one shrimp, to supplement the home-cooking and the Chinese BBQ from King's. Their noodle dishes are the thin egg noodles that are commonly used in Cantonese style soy sauce noodles. The preparation is the same regardless of protein, stir fried with bean sprouts, onions, and green onions. No change in overall rating. read more

I thought Seattle has good Cantonese food, including dim sum, so I decided to pick a place to try. Ended up picking Homestyle 来来点心 because it opens early and has HK milk tea. I have never seen a dim sum restaurant set up like this, but like nostalgia vibe. There is also a bakery counter for things like sweet sesame ball (煎堆), deep fried donut with pork (foot ball) (咸水角). I have no idea why Seattle area translates 咸水角 as foot ball but find it interesting. We sat down, a lady took our order, and brought over the dishes when they were ready. There was no dim sum cart or paper menu to mark off your orders. We ordered chicken feet (5/5), spare ribs (5/5), shui mai (5/5), beef rice roll (4.5/5), beef stomach (3.5/5), and iced HK milk tea (5/5). Everything was flavorful and cooked well, other than the beef stomach, which they have it more crunchy while I like the soft stewed texture more. The beef rice roll has larger portion than the usual size I see. My husband got a "foot ball" to go and liked it too. I am very happy that we tried this place, and left with a satisfied belly and leftovers. read more

Family owned and they are on site. THe people working there are very nice. They speak english. Fun gor; one of the best available. Texture contrast between slightly crunchy peanut,water chestnut vs tender melt in mouth wrapper. Flavor layered with cilantro and fat from pork. They have to take the extra step of boiling the water chestnut to remove the canned tinny taste from canned water chestnut. Nobody even includes water chestnut in dim sum anymore. Can tell everything inside hand chopped; not from machine. . They sell frozen dim sum; better than any supermarket or dimsum restaurant outside of chinatown. The dim sum restaurants mostly buy from wholesalers so you aren't getting anything they made themselves. They cant find the labor to make each piece by hand. The exception are the jiaozi/dumpling places where they show you they are making them as they are ordered. That freshness from freshly made dumplings is very easy to detect. All the metropolitan areas; Vancouver, LA, SF bay area buy dim sum from large wholesalers. Most of the work is automated by machines. Like croissants; most are made by machine. The hand rolled ones taste completely different. Chow fun has wok hei. They make onsite customize to your liking. Been there many years. read more

Yum! I'm from Colorado and we don't exactly have the most fabulous dim sum options. Love that this place opens so early and that it's located in one of my favorite spots, ID. This place is a hole in the wall, which are my favorite kinds of places. It wasn't too busy and it felt cozy inside, especially after warming up with some tea. My friends recommended this place, but said that the shrimp shumai is pretty mediocre. With that being said, my friends and I ordered everything but the shrimp shumai. The shrimp rice paper rolls were so yummy, especially with some soy sauce and chili oil. A second favorite had to have been the Chinese broccoli. I don't know what they do to make it taste so good, but it makes me want to eat more veggies, haha. I don't know if I would say that this is the best dim sum that I've ever had, but I will say that it was pretty damn good. Would recommend. read more

As one of my go to spots in Chinatown, I think all the dim sum places here have their benefits and downsides. I recently came here during the Seahawks parade I LOVE JSN and the place was packed since it is the only dim sum place in Chinatown to open before 8 am. Although there was a long line, if you are sitting in just sit down at a table and if there is a wait, ask the servers if you can get the next table (Cantonese helps ). If you are taking out, then you will wait in line. The waiters are very nice and its fun to speak Cantonese with them. The best thing here is the ha gow. Might be best in all of Seattle. It is tender on the inside will tasting very good and the skin is perfectly bouncy. The cheong fun is massive and I wouldnt recommend ordering the beef meatballs or stir fry dishes. The meatballs are very bland and the texture is powdery while the stir fry dishes are too oily, wet and lack the wok hay. The restaurant is small and is not by any means fancy but if you want some good tasting dim sum give this place a try! read more

We came to Homestyle Dim Sum as a party of 4 on Sunday morning at 9:30 AM. We were able to be seated right away, and we ordered several things. Our go to's: a green onion bun, the shrimp chive dumplings, soup dumplings, beef chow fun, pork rice roll. their radish and taro cakes. their salt & pepper squid. Everything was so good. The food here is LEGIT. Taste is on point. Y'all know it's good when you see a lot of older Asians dining here as regulars, because that's a picky demographic to keep happy. Definitely go for dine-in over take-out, dim sum just doesn't keep as well. Things to order: Shrimp rice noodle rolls - great texture, soft and silky like they ought to be. Generous portions. Superior to the other rice roll options in most of Seattle. Har gow - nice and big, lots of shrimp. Good texture wrapper. Cilantro and shrimp dumpling - lots of cilantro! We loved how you could tell the cilantro was very fresh and flavorful. Chive and shrimp dumpling (pan fried) - VERY chive-forward, made in a wonton type wrapper. Sesame balls - had a fresh batch of these and they were PERFECT. Red bean paste was nice and smooth with no bean chunks. Chewy glutinous rice flour with the perfect crunchy outer shell. Sesame came out fragrant and toasty. Service is very warm and friendly, the aunties here make you feel like family. This is a mom & pop shop, so don't expect anything fancy from the ambiance, just come for the great food. This dim sum shop in Chinatown is one of a kind. If you and a buddy are ever craving no frills dim sum, this is the place to visit. Service is near instantaneous, as you can already see many of the items made in those glass cases. And the chili sauces they have on each table is awesome. Fried rice: it was pretty average and bland. There was no seasoning on it at all. It seemed to be made fresh though since the rice was fluffy and not dry. However, I had to add soy sauce to give it some flavor and make it somewhat enjoyable. Wouldn't order again. Shu mai: pretty standard and good! Nothing to rave about, but no dislikes either. Would order again. Football: HUGE and extremely crunchy!! The crunch was phenomenal, but they placed it in a paper bag and the amount of oil ripped the bag open. I think they were made fresh since I had ordered close to closing time, and they were piping hot. The dough inside was really chewy though, and I had to eat a lot of dough before I got to the filling. I would potentially order it again if I was sharing with friends. Beef rice noodle: bland and not good. I ate a bit and threw the rest out. Congee: average. Could use a little bit more seasoning. I prefer the one from Hong Kong bistro. read more

I went to get dim sum with seven other people, and we all had a good experience. It was decently busy when we went in the afternoon so we waited for about half an hour to get seated. We ordered a bunch of plates of food including lotus leaf sticky rice, fried rice, fried noodles, noodle rolls, BBQ pork buns, century egg and pork congee, Chinese donuts, and my favorite, ham sui gok. I didn't take any photos unfortunately, but all of the food looked and tasted great. The only thing I wish were different is that the fried rice and congee had a little more flavor. We got Shui Mai 烧麦, Soybean Skin Roll 腐皮卷, Chicken Feet 凤爪, steamed BBQ Pork Bun 叉烧包, beef rice roll 牛肉肠粉, steamed Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce 蚝油芥兰, and Chiu Chou Dumping w/ peanut 潮州粉果. Watching some Strictly Dumpling on YouTube, Mikey Chen ordered some dim sum to go from this restaurant and it got me in the mood. Found it on Yelp, and ordered straight from the app. The chicken fried rice is a pass (on it), kind of bland, chicken was just meh. Har Gow was above average. Plump and clean. Just the right amount of wrapper and happy to have had it. Fried dumpling with pork filling (see picture) was not a "dumpling" that I expected but it was definitely good. Big, Crispy, Crunchy, filling. Would order again. Egg Custard Bun was delicious. I'm a sucker for anything that has Egg or Custard in it. A weakness of mine. Perfect bun that wasn't too starchy, hot, and slightly sweet custard. YUM. This is a small mom and pop shop, with hard workers inside. I haven't been by in a couple months but I had a bit of a disappointing experience today which is why I decreased my rating to 3 stars. The amount of filling in the steamed pork bun decreased. It's more bun than anything now. I have previous photos for comparison. The shu mai and shrimp dumpling were consistent. I love their beef chow fun but it was so bad today. It was bland, and the noodles were all stuck together and they barely put any beef in it. It used to be so good. Their prices have gone up again since I was last here as well. What a clutch find for excellent dim sum in the ID! This place had no wait on a Sunday morning, and we came out of our meal super satisfied. They only have 5 or 6 tables inside and service was kind of slow. The waitress didn't speak much English but we were able to order just fine. We had a bunch of made to order dim sum, although most of the people coming in were getting takeout. Dim sum was all the usual assortment - normal sized portions and all very tasty. Had some fried taro cake, shrimp rice rolls, shrimp steamed dumplings, shu mai, and steamed bbq pork buns. Everything we got was yummy and hit the spot. Prices seem comparable to other nearby places. My wife is half Chinese and has a deep love of all things Dim Sum. We probably drive To Seattle once per month just so we can get some really good dim sum. Our normal place is around the corner but since we were in the neighborhood, we Figured you would stop by this place. It's a much smaller restaurant than the larger places like Harbor city, But we did find the selection to be solid and they had a couple of dishes that we hadn't seen previously. The Char Siu Bao, coconut buns, egg tarts and other staples were all very good. We also discovered mochi pancakes the word delightful grilled mochi with sweet or savory options inside. The bbq pork mochi pancake is a new favorite! The prices here were awesome with a bag full of food costing something like $13. Winning! Came here first after an early flight to Seattle. Overall service was nice and quick. Kind of a hole in the wall spot with average food. The portions were great though! I think overall we spent about $40 for all the dishes pictured. The shrimp crepe had a different soy sauce than what I'm used to as its not as sweet as the typical one.
