This location is somewhat small but has everything I need and the people working there are nice. Today, I had excellent service from Hayley and James, and I just really appreciate their help. I had mistakenly picked a leaking six pack and since it was rainy and I was rushing, I didn't notice. James noticed it while he was packing my groceries and found me a replacement right away while Hayley took my payment and finished out the transaction seamlessly. This isn't an epic tale of triumph or anything, just people being polite and professional, but I do appreciate it and think it's worth calling out. read more

During inclement weather Texans go a little cra cra! I'm a native Texan, so I am talking about me also. During hurricanes or deluge of heavy rains, there are thousands of car accidents. When it rains, I try to stay off the streets. When there's ice or snow, it is a whole next level of cra cra! For example, in February 2021 we experienced Storm Uri, where our home was without electricity for 7 days and water for 3 days. During that time we had snow and ice. When trees ice, they are heavy and then the branches fall off. During that time branches were falling onto electricity lines. This caused the electricity to not flow properly or at all. Before the storm was announced, the grocery stores were flooded with people buying provisions where most shelves were left empty. While today the HEB grocery was not at the level of anticipated week of severe cold weather, many shelves were empty or near empty. Most milk and eggs gone...sandwich meats...wiped out...vegetables mostly gone and water...near gone, but were being restocked. I think we will be ok. While I did not find all that I was looking for, at the end of the day, it think we will be fine. read more

Upon entering I realized something had changed. Ashen. Like some war torn land. Color had been drawn from their faces long ago. No light left in their eyes. Employees looked like caricatures that would have only gained employment as side show acts in earlier days. Children of a different time cursed by the hand of god himself. A grey man looked at me and saw a subtle smirk on my face, a realization of the awkwardness I'd stepped into. Puzzled at first and then almost angry at the mere glimpse of a smile. Burning. His eyes followed me searing until I disappeared down another aisle. No one was safe here and no one was talking. Only the sound of crying babies could be heard under blaring pop songs from the 90's that were so desperately trying to drown out the bleakness and force peoples minds into the soundtrack of better times... I felt like vomiting. I went to the bathroom to throw some water on my face and regain my composure and noticed some strange new freak show of a man staring back at me in the mirror. It was unclear at first but then slowly, it dawned on me. The person looking back at me... was me. I looked deep into my eyes and understood that this is where I belonged. Nowhere else. I am one of them as they are one of me. We are exactly the same and this IS America. I ran out of the bathroom screaming and peeled out of the parking lot. Back home I jumped into the shower and ran all the hot water out of the tank but still felt unclean. Numb, I collapsed into bed, trying to reconcile what I had experienced with any version of reality I once believed in. I thought of the warm fall colors in my grandmother's home--dappled light filtering through pine trees, innocence flickering in the eyes of a child who still believed in the future. But that world felt like fiction now, a story I'd once been told and forgotten how to believe. I picked up my phone, so desperate to make sense of it all and eventually along came this... HEB is, truly, one of my favorite businesses. I've sung its praises for years. I even overlook the way they groom children into consumerism with their tiny shopping carts and HE-Buddy Bucks. But this... this was something else. That said, there were no lines at self-checkout and the bathroom was relatively clean. Stop by if you have no other options. Or if you're just curious to see what it feels like to stare into the soul of late-stage capitalism. read more

Curbside. I had a 2:00-2:30 time slot for curbside. Arrived at 2:08. Sent text to the number of the parking slot. Even included the order number even though it doesn't ask for that. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Three other cars came MUCH after me and got their groceries BEFORE me (almost right away). Finally, at 2:40, I got out of my car (not curbside!) and banged on the curbside door. Clueless. Finally, someone said she would get the groceries with no explanation as to why this happened. At 2:45, finally got my groceries. Called the manager on my way back to work. He made excuse after excuse after excuse. I asked WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO SO THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN? Still no clear answer. I kept asking. Finally he said I could schedule AN HOUR beforehand on order to get my groceries within my time slot. What??? He said the other 3 people PAID EXTRA to get their groceries right away within their time slot. EXTRA????????? WTH! If you have a choice, DON'T use this HEB curbside. read more

I paid with a check but the register would not accept it. Manager said it was because a gift card can't be paid for with a check. Soooo I had to go over to customer service where another manager had me swipe my drivers license through the cc machine about 4 times!! IF THEY WOULD TRAIN PEOPLE ABOUT THESE THINGS , ALL OF THIS TIME WASTE COULD BE AVOIDED. HEB doesn't care bc they have a monopoly in this town. I've had the same problem with paying with a check. The most important customer you have is the one Standing in front of you, not the online customer. It's cheaper to keep a customer than to find a new one.....Not the case in HEB. Meat counter yesterday the clerk was on his cell phone. Left and can back still on cell phone turned his back and went to the back room. Came back 15 minutes later still on his cell. Told him if he was paid for cell time he should ask for a raise. He told me what I was asking for was available frozen or fresh in packages of 8..... I wanted 4 pieces of fresh. A former casualty of the Albertson's/HEB war of the late 90's and early 2000's, this store has been around in one form or another for 30 years. And it kind of shows. Compared to other HEBs in the area it is smaller, with less selection. There isn't a dedicated butcher counter They do not make the tortillas on site (For the record, the one on Parmer doesn't either, you'll want to go to the HEB plus near Lakeline for that.) Their bakery section is a little limited compared to others. That isn't -bad- as there's another store literally down the road with a larger selection. I generally use it for a quick in and out, as it's smaller size means it's quicker to get what I want. The beer and wine selection is pretty decent. The bakery does have fresh bread. There is a ready-to-cook section to the right of the rightmost entrance The pharmacy is full of kind, polite, knowledgeable people who have been there for years. They have those 4 dollar bouquets so you can just surprise someone with flowers. For something general (Bread, milk, eggs, OJ, ground meat, deli slices, ect) you can grab it here. For something more specific, you'll want to go down the road. read more

Store needs a major renovation as other H‑E‑Bs in the area have gotten. The floor and shelves are filthy and in very poor shape. The parking lot is also littered with trash and tons of mystery spills. The general area feels unsafe and if you look up crime reports for that area there is a lot of theft/ burglary/ robbery reported. The library next door has a security officer. Seth the guy at curbside is just amazing. No matter what happens (item out of stock, one time they missed some items, ect.) he is always more than happy to help. Normally everything runs smoothly but stuff happens, we are all human. I don't think I would continue to shop at this H‑E‑B if he and others like him weren't there to help. I guess unless he's given a promotion that he so clearly deserves. Easy access to food is something most of us take for granted, I feel lucky to have the curbside team, especially Seth, at this H‑E‑B there to make it fast and easy. read more

I love H‑E‑B as a company but after COVID the shelves aren't t full and the service is subpar. My biggest gripe is the bagging, is not that difficult!, I'm not even asking for pantry items bagged with pantry items and fridge items with alike, forget that luxury (even though I load them on the belt that way) I'm talking about unnecessarily overloading bags with soft items or veggies at the bottom and heavier items like cans and boxes on top, every darn time! Grrrrr I would much rather bag my own groceries, I think they should give people the option to do it themselves. read more

This is my favorite "ghetto HEB". My second favorite is the North Lamar locale that we visit during Christmas/Tamale season. To clarify in order to attain Ghetto HEB status the location has to not be an HEB Plus and it has not been updated. Our plan was to arrive at the HEB Plus on Lakeline before they opened and execute a surgical strike to pick up some necessities. Well, we arrived early and there had to be 100 folks in line. We trucked on down 183 to the Spicewoods Springs HEB. We walked in got what we needed (they were stocked with TP and Paper Towels) and quickly beat feet. The folks here have always been friendly and on this visit, we were greeted as we entered and left. Social distancing in this store and others is a farce unless you only allow one person to be in an aisle. read more

This HEB ( Spicewood Springs Rd) is one of few that the property is not owned by HEB! The owner refuses to sell to HEB so they cannot expand In a way such as they did with the HEB Braker store. So the owner of the property is in control and HEB is stuck with renting, with finite options!! read more

While I love HEB, this one seems to he an after thought. In the morning they block the entrance/exit making you drive a longer way around. They tend to be out of stock of items more often than the other HEBs we use. The staff is still friendly and it is clean, it is a smaller HEB if that is your thing. If the huge HEBs are too much this may be for you. As a backup HEB it is fine. read more

Friday afternoon I drop by HEB to buy a potted plant as a birthday gift to a friend who has cancer. I asked the middle aged blond woman at the flower section if she can tie a ribbon around the pot. Dismissingly, she said she can't because the ribbon will fall off anyway. I asked if she can put a tape so it won't fall off. She started feeling aggravated because I can sense she wanted to get rid of me. She said okay but I have to charge you $30. At first I agreed, but I saw how she grudgingly pulled the ribbon out of the drawer as if I was pestering her. With her attitude I know she won't do a decent job worth $30 so I told her to forget it. The customer service in this place is a shit ! I only placed a star because I had to. read more

The workers here are so rude they must be getting paid minimum wage to act like this. Drive ten minutes up the road and go to the lakeline location. I was using a small hand basket to carry my groceries and I was barely even done checking out when one of the store workers ran up to me with a BAG IN HER HAND that she didn't offer me and tried to grab my hand basket saying "you can't take those outside go get yourself a cart." No one wants to steal your dirty hand baskets. This is already a stupid small location that doesnt carry more than three brands of granola bars and for the workers to be rude and unhelpful on top of it. read more

Absolutely love the pharmacy staff here. As a healthcare provider, I've been trying to track down a COVID-19 vaccine. I checked with the HEB closer to me and they were completely booked with reservations, so they referred me to this one. I've been in contact the pharmacy staff here who are friendly, helpful, and full of updates with accurate information. Here's the impressive part. This afternoon, they called to tell me that the pharmacy was still waiting on their shipment, but their location at Parmer and McNeil had one last dose today. They wanted to know if I wanted it. Once I told them yes, they told me they'd call ahead. Needless to say, this kind of service goes above and beyond. I'll be moving my prescriptions to this location. read more

I spend over $300 and had to bag it myself?? Talk about under staffed. Every other grocery store in the area doesn't make you bag your huge haul by yourself. The quality control is not there. You will walk out with moldy produce 50/50 chance your berries have mold. Every other grocery store in Austin also provides bags for you, HEB doesn't... Walmart, Trader Joe's and Target have them beat on bags and will bag your groceries for you. read more

I love HEB! They do a great job and put out a great product. But the spicewood Springs Road/183 store is lacking in customer service and efficiency. People rave about their satisfaction guarantee but the first time I tried to return some inferior product, I got a hassle from the so-called junior manager until I escalated to the store manager. Even then they refused to accept some cookware that had peeling Teflon coating. Would not have bothered if my girlfriend didn't refuse to cook with it. I always try to shop at a different location when possible. read more

PRODUCE COMMENT : I shop there and I am rather confused when I go now since they changed the location of most items in the store to make it higher shelves. I'll get over it. I am disappointed at their citrus price and quality and hope the produce manager will do something about it. March 25th, the oranges were 4 for a dollar. end of May, they became 3 for a dollar; okay...but in July, here they are 88 cents for TWO ((yep, $1.32 for 3)!! That is not fair to the people suffering from this worldwide situation; please consider reviewing these prices. Not only is this store super run down, small, always out of half of the things you need and lacking in selection/quality items, the manager needs a serious ethics training. He followed me around the store and kept passing me to peek in my basket after I had visited the hair/cosmetic aisles. Let's be clear, someone shopping these aisles are not automatically a red flag. I was doing a business shopping trip and grabbed a couple of personal items while there and kept them in my basket separate from the other items so I didn't accidentally ring them up with my business card/transactions. I've done that before on accident so now I keep everything separate. I also will personally hand the cashier my stuff at the end so nothing jumps over the bar and goes on the customer's receipt which also has happened because they aren't careful. For some reason he felt the need to profile me. I guess because I look young? Because I separated my items in the cart? No clue. I'm in my 30s and don't need to steal. When I got to the checkout to purchase my items I was ringing up the business stuff first and then was going to purchase my stuff secondly. Before I could even get to mine here comes the manager over "to help bag" (cute cover though) asking me if I had planned on paying for the cosmetic items when I hadn't even had the chance to get that far yet. I didn't deserve that. I didn't deserve to be profiled as a thief for no reason. Btw, my personal items didn't total more than $15 so it's not like I was grabbing expensive items. For my job I spend thousands a day at HEB and will no longer give a dime of it to that location. Not like I like shopping there anyways because they're always out of essentials. But rest assured, the couple $2 items I bought were safe from thievery another day thanks to Paul Blart over there Also side note - the man can't bag. This H-E-B had the distinction of being "My H-E-B" for a few days when I first moved to Austin. It's also the first H-E-B I ever set foot in, so this has a bit of sentimental distinction for me, too. Affectionately known as "Dingy H-E-B" or "Grungy H-E-B" among me and my crew, this store just seems smaller and not as... um, clean as most of its counterparts, and definitely not reflective of the standard of its quasi-upscale neighborhood. But don't be ashamed, Dingy H-E-B, and don't envy your other stores. Every clique has one of you, and you still have a certain charm. Pigpen was still one of the cutest and loveable of the Peanuts gang; and In a company full of Felix Ungers, you're an Oscar Madison if there ever was one. Like the rest of your clan, the staff is as polite and helpful as can be. So chin up, and stand up straight, Dingy H-E-B., and be proud of who and what you are! Pros- - clean! - good wine selection - clean bathroom that even has plants and fancy oil potpourri things - lots of parking that isn't miles away - never super busy (like the huge one on 620 always is!) - being remodeled (again? already?) so it will be even nicer - well laid out so everything is easy to find Cons- - it's a smaller HEB so they don't have all the speciality items i want I usually shop at this HEB because I can get in and out quickly. I can park close, it's not huge, and the checkout lines are never long. It's not the fanciest but it's the easiest! read more

This location is awful! Mainly their deli and bakery sections. I have had constant issues with both. If you plan on placing orders with either DONT or if you do make sure you call day of hours before your pick up time to confirm that they have your order and that it is still good to be picked up on time. The overall store is fine and is helpful when it comes to picking up last minute things but do yourself a favor and order cakes or platters from the Braker location. They haven't disappointed me yet! read more

Why is it that this location is one of the busiest HEB's and yet they are always seemingly understaffed?? Does management not understand that they need more employees to help with stocking, customer service, cashiering, bagging etc? Every time I am in here they seem to be out of at least one thing on our grocery list, too! Gosh .. I really love HEB and this location but it seems like they are just not able to pick the ball up on this location and get things running smoothly. On the other side of things .. I love HEB. They have fresh produce and the things they carry are very good quality for the pricing. I love the fact that a lot of their organic stuff is from Central Market and the pricing is a lot cheaper than they are. We've affectionately nick-named this quirky location "HEB Minus", it's almost like an HEB version of a convenience store. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love HEB and I think they've done what they can with this location - I mean it's way better than the old Albertson's that used to occupy this spot. They have the same great service and HEB products, there is just something about this location... It's much smaller than most HEBs and the layout is cramped, and since it's smaller the selection is somewhat limited. And for some reason it seems to always be busy and all the shoppers seem to be in a hurry - I think the location lends itself for folks stopping by for stuff they forgot on a real shopping trip at a real HEB (like me!). The parking lot is cramped too and the layout is just weird. Heck I usually park around the corner near the dry cleaners just to avoid the parking lot. I think improving the parking lot layout would go a long way. This being said I probably stop by here at least once a week, can't complain about the service or products - happy shopping! read more

This store was amazing! I spent $30 on groceries and odds and ends to drag back home with me to Connecticut. Everything here was so much cheaper than where I live, and it's the same products or completely unique items that were reasonably well priced. It's a small store, and it does need some updating, but it's very clean and the workers are all pleasant, helpful, and charming. read more

This HEB can really really do much better. Walk in the south door, and the smell of strong slightly rotten seafood just smacks you in the face. This is only as annoying as the multiple sharp, harsh damaging speed bumps that are far too frequent on the parking lot. Cleanliness: This HEB is also lacking there. The walkways, in and out, are smattered with globs of old darkened chewing gum. Pharmacy: Don't do it! The staff seems to care less, and multiple problems with added Rx charges forced me to switch to another pharmacy right away (I have never had a problem at the new pharmacy). The staff: pretty good but don't expect much late at night when the locals who work here seem to clown around as much as work. read more

The other day I went to HEB and bought a $25 Panda Express gift card for my friend for his birthday, and I was recently informed that the card didn't work and was declined when he tried to use it. Not two-party checks nothing complicated, the little girl behind the counter a believe her name is Mealane (fake eyelashes) had a completely crap attitude. Not the best choice of HEB's. It is smaller and has not as many items as the larger sized HEB. I was disappointed and expected the same things to be offered at all HEB so I have to drive out of my way to 2222 to get my grocery shopping done. This HEB isn't as clean as the others either.
