My story: Called them for HVAC maintenance. Said all was okay. Workers seemed hurried. One week later air conditioning went out during record heat wave. Our condo was sweltering at 94 degrees. They were too busy to come for another week. Suffered for four days before finding someone who came within two hours. I've used them twice. Both times follow-up communication has been weak at best. Things left to be done and I had to be the one to keep calling and making sure it would get finished. I used them for my tankless water heater and Tom was FANTASTIC. So knowledgeable, honest, professional, nice....got the job done and efficiently. These water heaters are not easy to deal with and not enough people out there really know what they are doing. There needed to be one other thing done by someone else who was to come the next day and I had to keep on that because I had no call and no one showed up. It took pressure to get someone there by the end of the week. Second time I gladly called again and for something wrong with a line in the kitchen sink. This time was not a success. Water was pouring out. They came the next day. Found the problem (broken line in the hose of the faucet) but said it may be 3 or 4 business days before they could locate the replacement. (Really?) Day 4 - no word back - I call. There is no part found and nothing being done. So I tell them to bring a whole new faucet - whatever it takes. They say ok but it will be another 2 days before they can get out. Aargh. Then they found the part, lo and behold, but still 2 days before they get it. Then I call that day to confirm (again constant follow-up needed on my part) and they have me down for a house call but no part. I lower the boom and say I will be here all day waiting for them but they will arrive with a part or the whole faucet. He shows up with the part and a whole violin section on what he went through to get it. I will use them and Tom specifically for the tankless without hesitation. I will try to find another business for the lighter fare. Would have been 2 stars from me had it not been for Tom. :) read more

First time homeowners. We had an emergency flood situation in our irrigation system -- basically an unwanted fountain in our backyard. We called Moe Plumbing, not knowing what to do. An employee, Russell, called us back and calmly walked us through how to find the shut off valve and resolve the issue. He refused to charge us, because it was such an easy fix. But he's our hero. Called these guys because our son recommended them. They called before they came, as they said they would. I feared a broken pipe, but it was just the toilet kits for two toilets that were necessary so I was happy to find out there was just a coincidence of two things going out at once that was causing what appeared to be a much larger problem. Bert Guzman was great. His work was thorough, he diagnosed the problem quickly, he had the necessary toilet kits on his truck, and he left everything clean. Plumber late, refused to concentrate on the issues that I had called him for. "Your hot water heater only has 3 years left on the warrantee". When I asked him to stop trying to scare me with ghost stories, he persisted. I then warned him that if he didn't get to work on the problem at hand (a simple sump pump installed by one of Moe's predecessors) that I would ask him to leave. He kept trying to sell me a new water heater (the old two are working perfectly and under warrantee). I asked him to leave & he charged me $167.00 including $5 for a mask. No problem solved. NOTICE THAT MOST OF THE POSITIVE REVIEWS FOR MOE PLUMBING DON'T DESCRIBE THE WORK THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY DONE. CLEARLY THESE WERE POSTED BY FRIENDS OR EMPLOYEES OR IT WOULD ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT THE WORK RATHER THAN CALLING IT "ISSUES" AND SUCH. HERE IS A REAL EXPERIENCE. I called Moe Plumbing to light a pilot on a furnace because my handyman was out of town. I was told they would give me a free estimate of anything else that was wrong. Sure enough they told me that the furnace needed a "rebuild" and that several parts were not functioning. I had just had the furnace rebuilt a few years before so knew they were not being honest. The technician said he took the liberty of changing a part, without my permission, but it still didn't work and so he installed a new thermostat, again without my permission and even though the thermostat was only a few months old. Still the furnace didn't work so he said I should replace it and he could get me a deal on a new one. I said that he should not have replaced parts without telling me first and that he should come back and get the thermostat and asked for the old part to be put back on the furnace. He never came back but when my handyman returned he looked at the supposedly "new" part and said it was at least five years old and had he could tell was the same part because it was corroded to the pipe so was clearly not a replacement. He lit the pilot and the furnace worked fine....that was all that was needed. Shortly after I received a bill from Moe plumbing for a service call, which I disputed because he hadn't done any work and because they had told me that it was a free estimate so I shouldn't have been charged for his opinion, which was dishonest/wrong anyway. The technician had been there only about 1/2 an hour, according to my tenant, and they claimed he was there for 2 hours. This was explained to me as 'travel time" because they were charging from the time the appointment was set even though he arrived one hour late and they were also charging for his travel time after the appointment to go to his next job. When I refused to pay the $250 charge they sold it to a collection agency, and it turned up on my credit report. I asked them to take it off but they refused saying I should take it up with the lawyer they sold it to....they had been paid by him. The woman in collections laughed when I told her it was affecting my credit and said that I should just pay it if I wanted to get it off my credit because I would be paying more for bad credit. She didn't even care that I didn't owe it. So its clear that part of their business is to sell accounts to collection agencies to extort payment on bills that you don't owe. Also, when I posted a bad review on Angie's List they responded by saying that they had never done work for me (which is true) even though my complaint was that they hadn't done the work they claimed and that they had unlawfully sold the billing to a collection agency. read more

I would avoid these people. They charged me over $300 to replace a ball flap on a toilet. The guy dithered around, walking v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y back and forth to his truck several times, saying vague things when questioned, and in the end, all he did was replace a degraded ball flap and then the toilet worked fine. I can only figure he was intentionally wasting time to jack up the bill because I'm a woman and I don't know anything about plumbing. Also, they are pretending to be Val Ramos Plumbing, which went out of business. When you call the number that used to be the phone number of Val Ramos, these people answer the phone. But eventually they admitted to me that they did not keep a single one of the employees of Val Ramos! read more

Best experiences I have ever had with a plumbing company! The first time I used Moe Plumbing was after calling out two other plumbing companies to repair a back-up issue in my home. The first company (Mike Diamond) came out twice within a week to unclog the pipes. The back-up happen yet again for a third time only a few days later. I reached out to the same company but they offered no discount or advice to why this was continually happening. If I didn't know better, I would of continued calling them out for $99 non-refundable service. I decided to go local and call another company who came out and sent a camera scope down to diagnose the problem. They were at my house for hours only to quote me $10K to replace all the "corroded" pipes. In disbelief, I finally decided to contact Moe Plumbing Services for another opinion. I was very concerned about Moe's costs since I their service call was over $100 and I spent a few hundred already. The technician, Jeff, came out to assess the back-up. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem immediately, which happened to be a damaged pipe due to tree roots. At the end of the day, the charges were less than $1k, which included camera, labor and repair. Jeff did an absolutely amazing job! About a year later, I had a shower leak and knew it was time to consider installing a water pressure regulator. I called Moe Plumbing and requested Jeff. Again, he did another amazing job building the regulator and repairing the leak. The cost for the service was reasonable and I even notice a reduction in my water bill, which in LA is never heard of! My third experience with Moe Plumbing Services was to diagnose a clogged toilet this year. I immediately reached out to them requesting Jeff's expertise. I purchased water efficient toilets about 6 months ago and it turns out they aren't really "efficient". Jeff stated the back-up was just sitting in the pipes and had probably been accumulating since I purchased the toilets. I guess the reduction in water when flushing didn't force the waste out to the sewer. Jeff was able to repair the problem in a timely manner and gave me constructive advice to avoid the problem occurring again. Moe Plumbing provides great service and reasonable costs. I highly recommend their technician, Jeff. He is the man for the job! read more

STAY AWAY!! COMPLETE RIP OFF! THEY OVERCHARGE TREMENDOUSLY!! Company charged $630 to replace a standard faucet in a bathroom sink. They claimed the "project" required two men and over 2-1/2 hours to do the work. I had another plumber review the work and he confirmed that MOE Plumbing completely overcharged for the parts and labor. A $75 part was charged at $167.22 and the work should have taken less than an hour for one person. read more

Short version: They didn't show up in a four-hour appointment window made during a work day, and didn't call to update me. I won't work with a contractor I can't trust to communicate or show up, and who doesn't respect my time. Long version: I made an appointment for an estimate, was given a four hour window of time during a work day (Noon to 4pm), so I took time from work to be available. I called that day before that window to confirm, and asked if they could call when on the way since we don't have a doorbell and might not hear them knocking. Office person was nice, no problem there. 4:00 pm rolls around, no call, no one came. I called the office and they said the contractor had just finished up a job and is on his way. They were nice, but didn't acknowledge the problem or apologize or anything. I told them to cancel. Suggestions: I don't expect all of these to be done, but the more the better, with the first one being required of course: 1. Show up during the time given. 2. Call to update the customer ASAP if you're not able to make the time. Don't wait until the last minute. I'd rather know in advance and have options than wait around to find out. And don't make the customer call to find out where you are. 3. Have a much shorter time window. This might be an "industry standard" but other trades are able to do much better - even specify an exact time and show up on time. I'm sure estimates are a wildcard - anything can happen. And you don't make money on them unless you get the job. But these are excuses that lead to a bad experience. 4. Like a dentist, call the customer to confirm the day before. This wouldn't have helped this problem, but would have saved me the effort, and shows your more on the ball. 5. Respect that your customer's time is valuable to them. What this company did suggests they don't respect the customer's time. read more

We just had a serious issue with an upstairs toilet leaking into our kitchen! Yikes. Moe Plumbing came right away and assessed the situation. Their engineering supervisor and carpenter came over to figure out the permanent fix. We went from a Sloan wall mount to a regular toilet. Not an easy job. Every appointment was on time and thoroughly informative and professional. Tim, Jason, Michael and Mike were pros in every sense of the word. I consider myself a Mr. Fixit, and have replaced valves, faucets, toilets on my own. But there have been times that I required a little more expertise. That's when I have called MOE. I have called them from time to time over that last several years. They have replaced my water heater, cleared a clogged sewer line, replaced a difficult to access faucet, replaced a pressure release valve, and gone under the house (a place I refuse to go). I called MOE (formerly Keefe) today, as they are the plumbers that my building typically uses. It was important to me to have a plumber who knows my building as any work conducted affects my fellow neighbors/homeowners. I had been having some draining issues in my master bathroom, which worsened today as one of my sinks stopped draining at all. I called MOE just before 1 and a tech named Octavio arrived around 2:00 p.m. Octavio was great! He snaked both sinks and replaced the flapper thingy in our master and guest bathroom toilets. Octavio informed me that he used a 35 foot snake, which reached the basement of my building (I'm on the top floor), so I didn't need to worry about causing problems in any of the four units below me. I asked Octavio if he could also snake the tub, but he advised me that it could take more than an hour, which would put me into overtime hours, so he suggested that I schedule him to come back on Saturday (which would not be billed as OT). Octavio advised me that, like the sinks, he would need to snake down to the basement and that takes time to avoid causing any problems in the units below me. I called the office and scheduled Octavio to come back out Saturday morning and the office said that they would keep the current ticket open, so that I would not be charged for Octavio making a second trip. I asked if I needed to pay today or Saturday and they said Saturday. I was very impressed with the prompt and excellent service I received and I highly recommend MOE to other homeowners. read more

I contacted Moe's Plumbing to repair a 50 year old gas floor heater in my mother's home in Highland Park. The office contacted me and I set a Saturday appointment. Octavio Prado was the serviceman who arrived and immediately looked over the heater which had not worked in over a year. The heater would have to be completely rebuilt. He gave me a reasonable estimate for this service. He arrived the following Tuesday and immediately went to work. The heater is now providing heat for the home and is fully warrantied. Overall, the company kept their appointment times and Octavio was knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this company for your plumbing and heating needs. read more

Absolutely the worst experience ever. The work was terrible, they did not take a single precaution to protect any of the 4 apartments in the 4-plex that I live in, and ALL of the work they did was 100% unnecessary. They took advantage of our 92-year old landlord telling her she needed to upgrade all of the heaters when they were all operating fine per official SoCal Gas reports (SoCal had come out 2 weeks prior to inspect and light the pilots). As a result of their poor work and zero regard for our property and everything in it, there was damage in all 4 apartments which was followed by weeks of fighting to hold them accountable and make them pay for the property damage done to all 4 apartments. Once they paid/repaired the damage and finally finished the work - which took over 2 months - their work did not pass the requisite inspects FOUR TIMES! The inspection process took another entire month to get through without any apologies. This entire process seemed criminal to me but our landlord unfortunately did not want to go through the hassle of pressing charges. I didn't have to pay anything as a tenant, but I had personal belongings damaged and had to live for 3 months with these awful people doing terrible work and taking advantage of elderly landlords. It was THE WORST (I would rate them 0 if possible) and I've reported them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I had a scheduled a repair for a "water in a gas line" problem, as determined by the SoCalGas Company. The gas company left detailed repair notes of location and of the problem to be repaired. After 4 different scheduled attempts to repair problem with not having fixed the issue, I received a $2500.00 bill, W/O the repair having been done. I then called a different plumbing company, gave them the same repair notes from the SoCalGas Co, and within 45 minutes had the issue repaired and with only a $400 bill! After contacting MOE Plumbing on 3 different occasions to discuss my unhappiness, I never received a call back. MOE PLUMBING is completely unprofessional, has horrendous customer service and is incapable/uncaring of costumer satisfaction. The SoCalGas Co had also told me of MOE PLUMBING's poor reputation (unfortunately after the fact). Overpriced bad service is MOE PLUMBING's specialty!!! read more

what a pain! i used moe's at my former home. they overcharged me and then had to come back to fix their mistakes when my pipes started to leak two days after they installed them. but my biggest frustration happened because, after i moved out of that home, they were called in by the new resident to do some work. they then sent me the bill. i called and politely explained that i no longer lived at that address and gave them the name and contact info for the owner, who was responsible for paying the bill. they thanked me. but they refuse to stop sending me the same bill with past due notices, no matter how many times i explain that i'm not responsible to pay the bill. do not let them have your name or address! they will harass you and try to get money out of you that you don't owe! they are completely unethical or completely incompetent or both. read more

I have used Moe Plumbing in the past and have had both good and bad experiences, but what just happened has caused me to write my first Yelp review. Last August I had them replace my water heater. Although they were slightly more expensive, at that moment I thought they were reputable. After the work was done I gave the plumber my credit card to pay and thought nothing more of it until last night. Upon checking my current credit card statement there was a new $1500+ charge from Moe, dated last Saturday, when I know I hadn't had any work. I immediately called my credit card company to report the fraud and cancel the card. Today I heard from Moe that it was the charge for the August work, which they'd never bothered to run in August. They never thought to let me know what had happened, so I get to deal with the consequences of having cancelled the card. Incidentally the amount on the invoice and the amount they charged are slightly different. Why would I ever deal with a company who runs their business in such a shoddy manner. read more

We have used MOE (formerly Keefe) since we moved into our home in 1994. They have handled some small jobs ( leaky undressing pipes, replacing faucets etc ) to bigger jobs ( snaking outside house to sewer drain) many times. The techs have been nice, and knowledgeable. Special shout out to Eric who came a few years ago and again today to hydrojet, and video the outside drain. I am surprised to see so many bad reviews. Seriously, they are not inexpensive but they always state exactly what they are going to do and explain the why/ifs. Today, we expected news that would lead us to a costly (neglected by us) repair but we were not pushed or condescended to at all. We chose the cheap quick fix ( I am using quick rather facetiously as poor Eric really labored to get the problem solved) and we without a doubt will be calling them to do the bigger job soon. Every tech has been deliberate and careful to detail..none slacked off or made us feel they were padding the hours. So yes, expensive. But also yes, honest and solid work. read more

I manage a 45 year old condominium complex in West Hollywood. We recently detected a gas leak and called the gas company and sure enough they turned off the gas. I called several plumbing companies who either had no time, did not have the equipment for something as large as this project OR will not work with Homeowner Associations due to the liabilities. I was referred to MOE Plumbing, they came out first thing in the morning worked a plan and presented to my Board President. MOE Plumbing was hired and did an AMAZING job, very professional gentlemen and finished the job ahead of schedule by hours, called the city out for inspections and of course their work passed, called gas company and the gas company commented that this company was excellent and did the work in a very quick turnaround, I felt that was my pat on the back.
