A visit to the Stockyards is not complete without a meal at H3 Ranch! We were exploring the stockyards on a rainy and cold winter day and popped in for lunch. The dining room and saloon are quintessential cowtown and a cozy spot to land to escape the rough weather that day. We started with the burnt ends short order. They were tender and tasty. I also had to have the tortilla soup because nothing is better on a rainy day! It was served in the cutest little pot and was just the right amount of spicy and delicious. I decided on the tomahawk pork chop as my main course. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly and served with cranberry chutney and spicy sweet potato mash. Absolutely mouth watering magnificence! Took my wife for our anniversary here and called in for a reservation. We had an early dinner, got their around 5p, and it was slow for a Thursday. Not sure we really needed a reservation, but then again I was advised to from a friend. I had heard that this was the place to go for the steak, and so my wife ordered the Cowtown sirloin, and I had the spitfire chicken. The food was good, I just didn't think it was worth all the hype that I had heard around the watercooler at work. For the time we went, I'd assume we'd get waited on quickly, but the wait was surprisingly long. Seated around 5:20, but not in the dining room - we were seated in the bar at a table next to an extremely loud drunk table. Hmmm... not the way to start a "good steak dinner." As it was not a good vibe, skipped the appetizer I wanted and we both went for the filet mignon. Not only was it the worst cut of filet I have ever had, but neither one was cooked the way we asked. Mine was raw - asked for medium. Sent it back and got beef like jerky back. Very disappointed. And hard to eat when there is a taxidermy possum hanging over the bar. Waited 45 minutes for a table. Gave our table away to patrons that came in after us. Then told me my table would be ready in 10 minutes. Waited 20 minutes to be told again they were working in our table. Then put us at the employees break table next to kitchen. Never called the manager over. Asked for another table and said they didn't have one. Table for 5 had been open for two hours. Such a let down for a restaurant that was recommended by friends. The food was so good on my first visit that I had to return and bring friends along to experience it. Everything from the atmosphere to the flavors was exceptional. H3 Ranch was the popping spot to visit and enjoy in the stockyards here in Texas. We weren't able to make a reservation but we did do a walk in- which was a bit of a wait about 1 hour for 3 people to sit. The margaritas were a little watery but large, we did order the at table guac which was phenomenal! The food was great, I ordered the Salmon which was recommended by the server and cooked on a wood plank next to where the steaks get cooked which offered a wonderful bbq tasting but not over the top. My wife and I did a little staycation in the Stockyards and decided we wanted to go to H3. When we first moved to Texas, this was one of the first spots we fell in love with. In the past few years, we have not been able to make it out there, so of course we had to this trip. Unfortunately, our experience was decidedly average. Their menu used to have many more options and their prices used to be competitive with similar restaurants. This was not the case for this visit. The steaks were outrageously priced and there were little seafood options. I ordered the crab legs, but was told they, "haven't had those for months." No issues there, but take them off the menu, especially because it's been months. The salmon I ordered was fine, but nothing spectacular. The fries were quite good and my wife and I enjoyed them immensely. My wife had a wine she really enjoyed and the old fashions were good. The service was average. Our server was nice enough, but not very attentive. Forgot to bring things to the table, slow to check on us, things like that. Certainly not deal breakers, but it did detract from the experience. Overall, not at all a bad visit, but far from the restaurant I used to brag about in years past. We'll likely visit here again, but more out of nostalgia than anything else. read more

While visiting on a business trip, I visited the H3 ranch after reading the reviews. I wanted to try the smoked sirloin or prime rib. Unfortunately, both were sold out when I got there. So I went with a filet. It was a great choice! It was cooked perfectly, but needed a little salt. i didn't like the Bernaise sauce that came with it though. I also ordered the skillet potatoes & when the lady with the potato condiment caddy, I asked to have cheese, sour cream and chives added to them. The salads were decent, I also asked for no onion because I don't like raw onions. The ranch was a bit dilly tasting, but I think they used pickle juice in it. I got an order of ribs to try them, and wasn't really impressed. They were ok, but the ends were a bit rubbery. My friend ordered a medium sirloin and he couldn't slice it because it was tough. So, I'm glad I sent with the filet. The service was great! Our waitress was nice, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant itself is kind of like going to fancy old west saloon. Like what you'd imagine on Gunsmoke. The atmosphere was relaxed, quiet, but family friendly. The decorations were old west themed, and the table lights were branding irons! So neat! It was a wonderful day in Fort Worth Texas. I was in town for a birthday and we wanted to see the sights. We roamed the Fort Worth Stockyards Station and found our way to H3 Ranch. Boy I'm sure glad we did. I went with my Yelp instincts on this one which basically means I used the app and hoped for the best. Well, I'm happy to say the 4-star rating didn't steer me wrong, see what I did there? No vacation to the great state of Texas would be complete without eating a steak. I went with a ribeye because that's hands down my favorite cut. My wife got the filet with some beans on the side and our guest got something absolutely covered in cheese. I ordered 2 Margaritas and sent the second one back because it was mostly mixer. I could tolerate all this for the ambience and tourist/historic area for about $120 including tip. One of my favorite steakhouses in the dfw area. The location is in a great spot right in the center of the stock yards (doesn't get any better than that) their food is delicious. And the service is great, everyone is very friendly. Food is usually out fairly quick. Please try the Palomas (alcoholic beverage) they are my favorite drinks. For appetizer I like to order the Poblanos con Queso. It's queso with poblano peppers served with chips. For my meal I like to order either the Filet Mignon or the Tenderloin with as side of baked potato, they bring out the cheese, sour cream and scallions . All meals are served with a house salad and let me tell you their ranch dressing is so yummy! A must try place if you are in the area. read more

The restaurant and theme are pretty cool. Love the saddle bar stools. Menu is simple, this is a beef town. Get you some beef. I had 16 oz Smoked Sirloin with skillet potatoes and cup of sausage creamed corn. Our server was great. The smoked sirloin was delicious and tender. Everything had good flavor, however, I had one sticky problem. As I was enjoying the bowl of sausage creamed corn, I got a particularly chewy / gummy bite with a slightly strange flavor. I figured it was a fatty piece of sausage or something, and I kept chewing. As it became evident that I was going to be unable to chew it up, I removed it from my mouth to find that it was a piece of masking tape. Still had adhesive on it too. Server got the manager over who admitted that they use masking tape to label things in the kitchen. Turned out once I got it all flattened out again that it was about 4" long. The manager offers to bring me another bowl and quickly retreats. They didn't even comp anything. Accidents happen, and no harm came from this, but I think the manager could have handled the situation better. read more

I don't always enjoy dressing up, and I didn't feel underdressed wearing my jeans and t-shirt. My partner and I ordered the bacon wrapped filet with the creamed corn on the side along with 2 pork ribs. The filet was SO tender, literally cut like butter, and well seasoned. The creamed corn surprised me and was tastier than I expected as it had pieces of sausage mixed in. I wasn't as enthused about the pork ribs (they were just a bit dry). I ordered the Flaming Tenderloin Steak which comes with a house salad and choice of potato (baked, fries, or skillet). I specifically asked to not have the skillet potatoes as I have had them on a precious visit and did not care for them in the least. Fortunately they were also not in the bill. I.have been here twice before and the ambience is low brow cheap cowboy decor ancient furniture and exceptionally crowded.
