Ok..... day two at The Fort Worth Stockyards !! After watching the Fort Worth Cattle drive down the street, (if you haven't seen these big, huge Texas Longhorns walk down the street... you need to!--. Amazing !! But that's another review ). We stopped into H-3 Ranch (Steakhouse) for lunch. The restaurant, Boogers Saloon & Stockyards Hotel are all connected. We were ahead of the lunch crowd and got seated at a table right away. We were seated in view of the flaming grills....very cool. A stack of hickory wood is around the corner. Our Server was friendly, full of smiles with a really great Texas drawl. Attentive but not a pest. Name/ ID on our receipt was #751/Roshto.... but not sure if it's a name or just a code. Kudos... She was a very good server !!! Got our cold beers and got right down to lunch. I ordered the Brisket sandwich on a buttered toasted bun. Perfectly cooked. Sooooo yummy! My husband ordered the Pulled Pork with coleslaw sandwich which he loved! Needless to say... we both finish them. Delicious. Started a bit rough but got better. Had to call a few times to get the valet outside because they were hanging out inside. Once seated (I had a reservation) it took server maybe 15min to greet the table. After that the server did well in taking care of the table. Drinks were good. Food for me was okay. I had the filet mignon. It was fine and cooked correctly but not the best I've had (especially at their price point). A couple friends had the salmon and said it was good. Side salad with their ranch was pretty good. Had to track down valet again at the end to get our cars. There's a lot of steakhouses in the area so not sure I'll be back as a first choice but would go again if invited out for a night with friends. read more

I ordered the Flaming Tenderloin Steak which comes with a house salad and choice of potato (baked, fries, or skillet). I specifically asked to not have the skillet potatoes as I have had them on a precious visit and did not care for them in the least. The server clarified and I said please bring either the baked potato or fries, I don't care which one - no skillet potatoes. Of course the skillet potatoes came with the steak and I wouldn't touch them and was very displeased. I asked for the steak to.be prepared medium rare and it came out blue and was severely underseaeoned, although tender. If the flavor of the meat was outstanding the underseasoning could have been okay. The flavor was not outstanding. I asked for a steak add on option of ribs and they never came. Fortunately they were also not in the bill. I.have been here twice before and the ambience is low brow cheap cowboy decor ancient furniture and exceptionally crowded. Tonight I was seated at a table that was especially crowded and in a very loud section. 1st visit was pretty rough. 2nd visit was much improved. 3rd visit was a decision maker and they let me down in grand fashion. First of all, I had a yummy frozen raspberry margarita while we waited on a table. For dinner, I decided to have chicken tortilla soup and pork tacos. The soup bills itself as the "original". The restaurant and theme are pretty cool. Love the saddle bar stools. Menu is simple, this is a beef town. Get you some beef. I had 16 oz Smoked Sirloin with skillet potatoes and cup of sausage creamed corn. Our server was great. The smoked sirloin was delicious and tender. Everything had good flavor, however, I had one sticky problem. As I was enjoying the bowl of sausage creamed corn, I got a particularly chewy / gummy bite with a slightly strange flavor. I figured it was a fatty piece of sausage or something, and I kept chewing. As it became evident that I was going to be unable to chew it up, I removed it from my mouth to find that it was a piece of masking tape. Still had adhesive on it too. Server got the manager over who admitted that they use masking tape to label things in the kitchen. Turned out once I got it all flattened out again that it was about 4" long. The manager offers to bring me another bowl and quickly retreats. They didn't even comp anything. Accidents happen, and no harm came from this, but I think the manager could have handled the situation better. read more

The food here was incredible and seeing the open kitchen as you step into the restaurant makes it very inviting. We sat near the bar which has very interesting though somewhat creepy animals hanging about for this New York girl but I loved seeing the saddle bar stools and everyone loving the food. The guacamole is prepared in front of you and the best I ever had. Our main dishes, ribs and chicken fried steak were delicious. I did not like the roasted corn as it is very dry but the fries were great and the house salad with their vinaigrette is outstanding. Let's not forget the fresh baked bread! Yum. I highly recommend stopping here for lunch or dinner when at the stockyards, speaking of which was also a must do experience in Fort Worth. Our waitress was also delightful. read more

Two 1 inch slices of brisket, sausage cream corn, and coleslaw. The best thing was the corn. Brisket was slightly warm, barely seasoned, and little smoke flavor. My wife had 1/2 rack of ribs, french fries, and roasted corn on the cob. The best thing out of her meal was the fries. Ribs were BONE dry, no butter or seasoning on the corn. Our bill was 71.00 bucks. I tipped the waitress well, because she did a good job and was very pleasant. 90.00 bucks total. Not again. There are much better BBQ places close to the Stockyards. 4 dining and not one meal was good. Prime rib, spinach and baked potato were cold as could be. The waitress insisted on taking it back. She returned and the prime rib was supposed to be medium and it was rare. Husband's enchiladas the cheese was still cold and unmelted. Daughters steak was well done and was supposed to be medium rare and sons steak was tough as a boot. This dinner cost $400.00 and we were all disappointed. H3 Ranch is a fun place to eat while visiting the stockyards. The ranch-style decor is worth checking out, including the buffalo butt over the bar and the saddle bar stools. The food is a little more expensive because it's in the stockyards and the waitresses try to upsell on the appetizers. Portions are large so keep that in mind. We have a culture of "take home" containers so you can always take how what you don't eat. The is a lot of restaurants in the Stockyards, try it if you can find a table. read more

Great place for drinks and food at the corner of Exchange and Main St. in the middle of the Fort Worth Stockyards. We came to renew ourselves in Cowtown where my uncle owned the Idle Hour Club in the 50's - 70's just across the street. Located in the middle of the stockyards area, this restaurant required a 45 minute wait and give us a chance to walk around the area because they texted your phone when your table was ready. The server was friendly, and made sure that our drinks were filled. I ordered the ribeye with skillet potatoes and a side salad, the ribeye was supposed to be medium well and it was closer to rare/medium. It was OK, not the best ribeye ever had. The potatoes were OK, incredibly oily. This salad was very simple that seem like it came out of the bag. Was in town and had to come to the stockyard area. We were recommended to come to this place for lunch. We were a large group (12 of us). We had some of the group go to make a reservation for us and hang out until the table was ready. The menu has lots of options, but I had to go with the steak. I chose the filet mignon and it was cooked exactly as ordered with perfect flavor and crispy bacon on the outside as well. I had a baked potato side that was well prepared as well. I ordered pulled pork sandwich and I was disappointed by the presentation and taste of the sandwich. The fries on the side were overly seasoned and were difficult to eat. I also ordered ribs with sausage, corn and fried to go which was meant to feed 2, however 3 people were fed on that portion and there was leftover as well. I started writing this review and it quickly turned into a weird essay on the history of the Stockyards and creepy cowboy culture. A musing, really, for another time.. sooo, I pressed backspace for a couple minutes and now we're starting fresh. I'll stay focused. H3 Ranch! A staple in the stockyards district. It's easy to feel like every restaurant is the same around these parts because it's basically all beef and barbecue and Tex-Mex. Nothing wrong with that though. H3 Ranch is a casual dining spot beside the historic Stockyards Hotel and they specialize in meat cooked over an open fire, which you can see from most seats in the house. It's all very cozy, cowboy-y, and smoky. And kinda pricey, I'll just say it. We stopped in on a chilly weekday and welcomed the warm setting. You'll totally feel a little like you're on the set of a western, which I think is fun. We ordered a cheeseburger, bbq burnt ends, and a baked potato on the side! Everything was super tasty, even the potato which I know was sitting under a heat lamp because our food was ready about 4 minutes after ordering. Our waitress was great, knew the menu and drinks well, and took good care of us. H3 is nothing fancy, it's quintessential laid back Fort Worth. Looks like they do weekend brunch too, which I bet is fun but super crowded. read more

But what made it ok was that the chef? came out and explained the wait and actually gave me my lunch and beer on the house and apologized for the wait.. first time that's ever happened and I really appreciated it. I don't give out 5 stars often, but this experience deserves it. From the food, to the service, to the promptness, to the atmosphere--we were blown away at every turn. We split the Porterhouse steak, roasted potatoes, and house salad. The bread was served hot and quick. The menu said a sharing charge of $10 would be added, but surprisingly it wasn't. Very disappointing. Food is mediocre at best. The "lips smacking bbq sauce" is meh. It requires efforts to pull the meat off the ribs. The roasted chicken skin is soft, like it has been cooked and just heat up before serving. My original review disappeared somehow. Anyway, this was a spot recommended to me when I told my friend that I couldn't stand the vibe of Dallas. And it was super cool when I first walked in a few years back. Many locals still frequented the bar to the right of the main dining room. But one thing I took note of was the contempt that the servers had for the patrons. And that was made crystal clear when, as I was walking out and joking with the manager, he said under his breath to me that "everyone in here is a Trump supporter". My GOD! A TRUMP supporter in Fort Worth??!?! At the Stockyards? Impossible. Anyway, since that first visit--as much as I love the ambience--the wildly ridiculous overpriced food (not very good) has gotten worse. Drinks are still strong. But the locals are gone and to be honest, even the tourists have thinned out. If I didn't know better, I would say that it's under new ownership but who knows. Won't be back but it was great fun while it lasted. 3 stars for the memories. 0 for what it's become. P.S. staff is ALL new. That tells you something. read more
