I grew up in East Texas and have eaten different types of bbq around the country. This is, by far, the BEST bbq I have ever had! Burnt ends are fork tender & literally melt in your mouth! We also had the spit-roasted chicken with grilled corn on the cob. The chicken is served with bbq sauce but it is so delicious, we preferred it without the sauce. The beer is ice cold, meaning you may have a few ice crystals on the top. Local craft beer on tap was perfect for a hot afternoon. For dessert we enjoyed the ice cream pie. Huge piece of pie made with mocha & vanilla ice cream in a thick Oreo crust, topped with thick & delicious caramel sauce with a sprinkle of pecans. It was along the lines of a turtle ice cream pie. The bbq is so many levels above any others we have tasted, from the west coast to the east coast, north to south. If you are anywhere near the Stockyards, put this on your "must do" list. read more

I love ribs and order them anytime they're on the menu. When my husband I saw their sign: "steaks, ribs and rainbow trout", there was no question that's where I wanted to eat. I ordered my ribs (off of the menu that said they are world famous) and he ordered a steak with enchiladas. First: my ribs were so dry that I had to use a knife to cut the one I ate, I couldn't eat the rest because they were hard and dry (I ordered the full rack!). WOW! I was expecting succulent, fall off the bone, perfectly seasoned ribs; what a disappointment! My husband's steak was really rare, even though he ordered it medium. It was also, very hard to chew. How is that possible? Normally when a steak is that rare, it is very soft - NOPE, not this one. The bill was just under $100! Definitely not coming back here, ever! read more

H3 Ranch is a fun place to eat while visiting the stockyards. The ranch-style decor is worth checking out, including the buffalo butt over the bar and the saddle bar stools. The food is a little more expensive because it's in the stockyards and the waitresses try to upsell on the appetizers. Portions are large so keep that in mind. We have a culture of "take home" containers so you can always take how what you don't eat. The is a lot of restaurants in the Stockyards, try it if you can find a table. read more

Great place for drinks and food at the corner of Exchange and Main St. in the middle of the Fort Worth Stockyards. We came to renew ourselves in Cowtown where my uncle owned the Idle Hour Club in the 50's - 70's just across the street. Located in the middle of the stockyards area, this restaurant required a 45 minute wait and give us a chance to walk around the area because they texted your phone when your table was ready. The server was friendly, and made sure that our drinks were filled. I ordered the ribeye with skillet potatoes and a side salad, the ribeye was supposed to be medium well and it was closer to rare/medium. It was OK, not the best ribeye ever had. The potatoes were OK, incredibly oily. This salad was very simple that seem like it came out of the bag. The atmosphere was kind of cool, and it seemed like the other people I was with enjoyed the food a lot. read more

Was in town and had to come to the stockyard area. We were recommended to come to this place for lunch. We were a large group (12 of us). We had some of the group go to make a reservation for us and hang out until the table was ready. The menu has lots of options, but I had to go with the steak. I chose the filet mignon and it was cooked exactly as ordered with perfect flavor and crispy bacon on the outside as well. I had a baked potato side that was well prepared as well. I started writing this review and it quickly turned into a weird essay on the history of the Stockyards and creepy cowboy culture. A musing, really, for another time.. sooo, I pressed backspace for a couple minutes and now we're starting fresh. I'll stay focused. H3 Ranch! A staple in the stockyards district. It's easy to feel like every restaurant is the same around these parts because it's basically all beef and barbecue and Tex-Mex. Nothing wrong with that though. H3 Ranch is a casual dining spot beside the historic Stockyards Hotel and they specialize in meat cooked over an open fire, which you can see from most seats in the house. It's all very cozy, cowboy-y, and smoky. And kinda pricey, I'll just say it. We stopped in on a chilly weekday and welcomed the warm setting. You'll totally feel a little like you're on the set of a western, which I think is fun. We ordered a cheeseburger, bbq burnt ends, and a baked potato on the side! Everything was super tasty, even the potato which I know was sitting under a heat lamp because our food was ready about 4 minutes after ordering. Our waitress was great, knew the menu and drinks well, and took good care of us. H3 is nothing fancy, it's quintessential laid back Fort Worth. I don't give out 5 stars often, but this experience deserves it. From the food, to the service, to the promptness, to the atmosphere--we were blown away at every turn. We split the Porterhouse steak, roasted potatoes, and house salad. The bread was served hot and quick. The menu said a sharing charge of $10 would be added, but surprisingly it wasn't. Great place to grab a decent steak! I had the ribeye and skillet potatoes. The ribeye was cooked a little beyond medium rare, but it was still delicious... so I didn't mind. The pepper rub they put on their steak and salmon is also delicious. I also ordered their skillet brownie with the whiskey sauce... bravo - would order the entire meal all over again. The food here was incredible and seeing the open kitchen as you step into the restaurant makes it very inviting. We sat near the bar which has very interesting though somewhat creepy animals hanging about for this New York girl but I loved seeing the saddle bar stools and everyone loving the food. The guacamole is prepared in front of you and the best I ever had. Our main dishes, ribs and chicken fried steak were delicious. I did not like the roasted corn as it is very dry but the fries were great and the house salad with their vinaigrette is outstanding. Let's not forget the fresh baked bread! Yum. Two 1 inch slices of brisket, sausage cream corn, and coleslaw. The best thing was the corn. Brisket was slightly warm, barely seasoned, and little smoke flavor. My wife had 1/2 rack of ribs, french fries, and roasted corn on the cob. The best thing out of her meal was the fries. Ribs were BONE dry, no butter or seasoning on the corn. Our bill was 71.00 bucks. I tipped the waitress well, because she did a good job and was very pleasant. 90.00 bucks total. Not again. There are much better BBQ places close to the Stockyards. My wife and I like to visit upscale restaurants on special occasions, so we made reservations here to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. Glad we did because the wait was 45 minutes without one. We wanted to try the ribs appetizer but they were out. Our entrees were the Mexicali, steak medium with a baked potato side and a 12 ounce rib eye, medium with skillet potatoes. Both came with a small salad. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. The enchiladas and refried beans were great but my skillet potatoes were overcooked so I asked our server to have the kitchen make another order, which were better but average at best. Their place is very much themed the old Texan style and a perfect place for tourists to enjoy drinks and meals. H3 is a suitable restaurant for large groups. I ordered pulled pork sandwich and I was disappointed by the presentation and taste of the sandwich. The fries on the side were overly seasoned and were difficult to eat. I also ordered ribs with sausage, corn and fried to go which was meant to feed 2, however 3 people were fed on that portion and there was leftover as well. She returned and the prime rib was supposed to be medium and it was rare. Husband's enchiladas the cheese was still cold and unmelted. My original review disappeared somehow. Anyway, this was a spot recommended to me when I told my friend that I couldn't stand the vibe of Dallas. And it was super cool when I first walked in a few years back. Many locals still frequented the bar to the right of the main dining room. But one thing I took note of was the contempt that the servers had for the patrons. And that was made crystal clear when, as I was walking out and joking with the manager, he said under his breath to me that "everyone in here is a Trump supporter". My GOD! A TRUMP supporter in Fort Worth??!?! At the Stockyards? Impossible. Anyway, since that first visit--as much as I love the ambience--the wildly ridiculous overpriced food (not very good) has gotten worse. Drinks are still strong. But the locals are gone and to be honest, even the tourists have thinned out. If I didn't know better, I would say that it's under new ownership but who knows. Won't be back but it was great fun while it lasted. 3 stars for the memories. 0 for what it's become. P.S. staff is ALL new. That tells you something. read more

I try to avoid the tourist traps in the stockyards but H3 is special. I love their food and just discovered their chicken blt wrap. It was glorious. And they have the best fries. Pairs well with their buffalo butt beer especially on a hot day. Can't go wrong with any burger there either just be ready for a nap after. read more
