Just a bit off the interstate- this was our pitstop for lunch. Funnily enough- my son had enough burgers for a month (in one massive burger in Denver) and my other half who was scouting food places for us while on the road picked "The Habit Grill". Husband neglected the "burger" word in the name- I think he was intentional in that. So- none of us got a burger! Eddie got a salad- whoa, right! Really told you how he was feeling, Robert went with Salmon- good choice & he loved it. And I went with a patti melt- I wasn't in the mood for burger either, but I wanted red meat. Food was out pretty quickly- this is an order at the counter and take a seat kind of place. They call your ticket/name when your order is up. They also have the self serve soda tabled off- they will pour drinks for you and refills. Fries were good and the onion rings were very good. I have been going to Habit for a decade, including this location and have never even written a review for any restaurant. In those ten years or more I've never had to pay for sauces, but this time only the fries came with ranch, not the chicken bites or tempura green beans. It's one of my regular spots because of my ranch-a-holic family. I don't mind paying for ranch if they at least fill up the cups. I couldn't even get bbq sauce for a burger or extra dressing for a salad without paying. I was just at another location and didn't experience this. The employee explained, without prompting, that they could get fired because they had previously given out sauces. I have experienced this type of ownership in past years when I used to work in food service. I probably won't eat here again, there are other places to eat. My wife was ready to leave after standing at the counter for several minutes and being totally ignored by the employees standing around. Finally she was able to make our order: a #1 meal, side salad, onion rings and drink. The onion rings were excellent. The fries were a little overdone, but we enjoyed them. The bun on the burger was burned black on the inside, and tasted burnt. the side salad, served in their small bowl, only half filled the bowl. As prices are rising, it seems they give less food and aren't careful with quality. The ranch dressing was good, as always. The drink and the condiment/pepper bar were excellent. We are sad that the Habit has deteriorated over the last few years. It was one of our favorites since first opening. We discovered this small but good Burger place and have eaten several dinners there when we are in town. We appreciate their diverse menu and options for nearly everyone and the quality of the food is very high. I don't splurge on Beef often but this is good beef and the 'fixins are very fresh. The problem arose yesterday evening in my double burger, which at first bite BIT BACK with SALT. I never had such a salty burger, and if we had not been in a rush I'd have ordered another one. While almost having to choke down my meal I witnessed the cook take a salt shaker and literally turn the grilling burgers WHITE on top. WTF? That's WAY too much salt even for a beer guy like me... I suffer from hypertension so am very aware of the taste of SODIUM and wow, no can do. I hope they answer this and I have only one question which is "can I order my burgers cooked with NO salt?" Drove an hour and 30 min round trip to get a basic burger, fries, and deep fried green beans and this was pir first time going here. They were OUT OF EVERYTHING!!!! We went at lunch time! I have never, in my entire life, been anywhere that serves fries and never to any fast food place that didnt have fries and a burger place that had no ground beef to make a burger! We usually stop at The Habitat when we travel to Redding. We don't have one in Southern Oregon. We have had good meals every time and this time was no exception. The employee was very friendly and the food was To order Hot, fresh and yummy! The best onion rings! My only complaint and why I didn't give it a 5 star was the sitting area and floor was grossly dirty. We ate outside which was a little better but still in need of attention and we had already ordered our food. This could be a deal breaker the time we visit in spite of how good the food is. Been disappointed here too many times. Nothing against the staff, although sometimes the kids working up front seem a little checked out. Salads and sandos are disappointing. I remember years ago when there were only a few Habits in Southern California. We used to think it was special to go here because they hadn't become a large chain yet. Now I travel hundreds of miles north and the entire state is dotted with them. Fortunately, that's not a bad thing. With all the poor fast food restaurants that are out there it's refreshing to see a chain that serves fresh, not frozen burgers in almost the same time frame as a Mc Donald's. While you will pay more for the burger here it's healthier and tastes better. In fact, there's no comparison. One of the great things about this location is they always get your order right and dish out friendly service. The other thing I like about it is I can get a salad with fresh grilled chicken or tuna. If you go down the street to Five Guys that isn't an option. You have plenty of choices here which is particularly handy for those that aren't keen on regular hamburgers. I'm not telling anybody anything they don't already know but this chain produces quality not necessarily value. read more

I only gave 4 stars because they are extremely overpriced for a chain fast food place. They charge small business prices with a fast food ambiance. We've been here maybe 6 or 7 times, and only once have I not had to send something back because it was made wrong. I'm not a Mayo person and anything else I can take off... but yikes. Normally I love the Habit but today my experience was not quite as good as I'm used to. They were packed today as they usually are, so we sat outside and there was plenty of seating out there. But I ordered a double char, no mayo, no lettuce, with cheese and I absolutely did not like it. The cheese was very thick and stringy and tasted very plasticy. It Overpowered the taste of the rest of the burger, both my fiancé and I couldn't stomach more than 2 bites. But otherwise the fries were good and the French onion burger was very good according to my fiancé. Kind of disappointed this time but will definitely come back to try something else. But their employees as usual were very prompt, poli & nice. Update: After I posted my last review the Customer Care Team reached out to me & sent me some CharBurger Tickets to compensate me for another few burgers, which I loved!! Could not believe how sweet they were in sending out those tickets, so naturally my fiancé & I went out and got some burgers! Again, no mayo, no lettuce, no cheese.
