This is disgusting and repulsive and terrible service, considering i ordered my food over an hour before i arrived for pick up! Being originally from L.A. but living in Portland for the past twenty years, every time we mention we're heading down I-5 to L.A. for a visit, we hear the same question from friends: "Oooohh...you going to hit all the In-n-Out's?". No. We're not. We're actually not planning to hit any. For Portlanders, In-n-Out seems to represent the "Holy Grail" of cult classic burger shops. But I don't know why. To me, the food there is very "average"---and finding Habit Burger has revived my opinions of what a real burger should be. Several years back, on our last trip down, we found Habit Burger here in Redding. I had the Seared Tuna sandwich (A sashimi-grade tuna steak--I remember it as being Ahi but it may be Albacore now) which was fantastic--I ordered it "still swimming rare" and they delivered. This time through town, I decided to beef it up with The Double Charburger, everything on it. Go big or go home. And home's about 450 miles north at this point, so my only choice was "go big." I went big. And loved every bite. Beef was perfectly seasoned, everything was fresh. Fries were crisp and perfect. For the hair under $9 it was exactly what a double burger meal should be. Family N. had a variety of burgers, all delivered exactly as ordered. Wife N's burger with bacon and cheese (and for her, nothing else, because in her mind if it came from the dirt it doesn't belong in her burger) was excellent. The tangy barbecue sauce was perfect and there was a crap-ton (metric, not Imperial) of the most lovely crisp bacon on it (I know...I stole a bite when she wasn't looking). The only items that were average at best were the shakes. They were a little airy and light---I suspect cheap ice cream went into the shakey-machine. I'd suggest an upgrade there. But anything you'd chew was spot on and as good as we remembered it. Absolutely great. Oh, and we found there's a Habit Burger a mile from where we're staying in L.A. So we'll probably hit that one again (yep, we were there last trip) as well. Keep up the awesome burgers, Habit! This place is a fresh breath of air for Redding. Usually at Five Guys or In-N-Out, I leave with a greasy feeling in my stomach. Don't get me wrong since those places are good, but I don't get that feeling here at the Habit. I always get the Mushroom Swiss Char since I love mushrooms on my burgers. I've tried both the regular and the sweet potato fries and I love them both. Next time, I'm going to try the side salad. From what I saw, it had the fixings like cucumber, croutons, etc. And your burger is a great quality for your money! The place looks very nice and the staff will help you navigate your way through the menu and they will accommodate any special orders. Had a late lunch there the other day with a big group of people. As always the food was amazing, everything came out as requested and quickly. We had an amazing experience with a staff member by the name of Tyler. This guy never stopped, from cleaning tables, to picking up trash, to talking to customers, helping people with the heaters outside, refilling drinks and then just being a nice guy. I don't want to go all emo on you here but, damn, I love this place so much that I want to have its babies. Yeah, here comes the inevitable comparison to THAT OTHER PLACE. Maybe it's the char grilling or that they don't drown the thing in "special sauce" but I like The Habit better. The fries are no comparison as the ones here actually taste like, you know, fries. The ambience here is a little less dinerish too, a little more grown up. They have outdoor seating with gas powered heaters that really crank out the BTU's so you could comfortably sit out there even on a chilly evening. I got there at 4:30 on a Wednesday evening and they were crowded but I was still able to get a table. By the time I left, the line was out the door. This is a new restaurant in Redding so all the normal caveats apply; get there early. Look out In-N-Out, you've got some real competition here and we're all better off for it. read more

Went to the Habit Sunday afternoon. I usually have a burger. We regularly take kids there from a youth group. I have one with me. I decided to go chicken. I said I'll have the chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce. Would you like onion? Ok, lets add avocado as well. two meals, $24 with tip. I don't mind, usually better quality and service. 20 minutes home. We sit down to eat and the chicken is smothered in melted cheese:/ The one item I am very allergic to and you can't just take off. Its never mentioned on the menu board. Why would I think it was on a chicken sandwich. Whenever you order a burger, the first thing they say is would you like cheese. So I call. Do you think you can talk to them? Oh no. That is not allowed. You can order food, but you can't tell them you had an issue with the order. It is a 40 minute round trip to go back in driving rain. It is the principle now. I explain to the young lady who is supposed to be the manager what happened. She apologizes. I replied: save it. I am not back here to wait for you to make a new sandwich. I don't want my money back. either. I spend on average $3000 a year in your store. I could get by for half at a regular fast food joint. But I want the kids to get a quality burger. I am mad because I can call the Manager of a McDonalds or a Burger King. But not Habit? Your burger meal is twice as much yet I have to go all the way there for you to know and then sit and wait for a new one? Sorry. If you notice, From the Hearth is growing like a weed. There is still just one Habit. They messed up and put cheese on my burger one time. I called, they said: head back we will have it for you when you get here. I hardly ever order for delivery but am disabled and didn't want to go out in the cold so when I saw the delivery option on their site I selected it. I don't know why it took 40 minutes to go the ten minute drive but of course food arrived cold and not even possibly to heat fries since they were over cooked to begin with. Anyway, it was a good reminder why I don't order food delivered. But what got me is the girl at the door said, whoops, they forgot to give me your Sundae. Well, somewhere in there I would think it's the driver's responsibility also to make sure they have everything they need. Jessica from DoorDash did not offer to return my tip, had to call them or to do anything she just told me I needed to call them. Well, here's why the bad review. When you call the habit store in Redding, no one answers the phone. When I finally did get someone at the customer service center that is out of the area and there is no way to contact the store, so any complaint has to go online or you have to drive to the store. I was so angry by this time that I almost did drive to the store, but again I'm in my pajamas and not feeling well. So I did the only thing there is to do these days, took my complaint to the Internet, and we'll see what they do. As far as DoorDash goes, I guess that's who they used to deliver but I did not have an order in DoorDash, so I waited to try to talk to a virtual agent and that got me 20 minutes of waiting and I got nowhere. Nothing enjoyable about my char burger, ZERO flavor from the tiny meat patty and I ordered it with grilled sourdough which was so saturated with butter it was dripping. The only thing that had flavor was the ketchup I had to put on it to try to make the whole mess taste better. I expected to taste the flavor of a charred patty and I don't know why there was none except that because the patty is so small and thin, it wasn't on the grill long enough to be flavored by the smoke. A nice fast-casual place with some interesting ideas and perhaps slightly lackluster execution. I personally very much enjoyed the veggie burger and fries with their tasty Sriracha sauce. My side-salad with pesto kale dressing was about what you'd expect for a fast-food salad; probably just below Panera quality. The tempura green beans were an oddity that ended up a disappointment. They really don't do anything special. My omnivorous friend did not enjoy her beef burger on Texas toast. Apparently it was soggy and not crispy and the beef was sub-par. My boyfriend got the original burger and the teriyaki burger. He compared the original to in-n-out, and said that in-n-out was actually better. But he compared the teriyaki burger to Red Robin, and said it was comparable in taste/quality, which is saying something cuz Red Robin is his fav. Staff was nice and helpful! Place was clean and I appreciated that even though they were extremely busy, they still had someone in the ladies room tidying up. There are plenty of burger options in Redding, I would give this one three stars. The menu selection is decent and the service is fast and friendly. Not tons of room to social distance inside and definitely a place where people act like there is no coronavirus. The burger I would say is mediocre best. Whatever kind of cheese they use really tastes off. Fries were good, and they have a pretty decent drink selection. The onion rings are awesome and the ice cream is pretty great too. I gave four stars instead of five for two reasons. They weren't a big deal but none the less....my burger bun was a little too cooked and was kinda hard. The ice cream is only one flavor, vanilla. The restaurant was clean and conveniently located in a major east-side shopping center (I was there for Lowe's), and that's all. The service was assembly-line efficient, and that's all. You can get a better, similarly priced burger at locally owned Maxwell's, and while you're there you can have yourself a local craft IPA and watch the Giants game. It's a slam-dunk, people.
