Go during lunch and get the galbijjim. It's $9.95 and their signature dish (from what I heard before ordering it). I got it and in my mind there is no point in considering anything else on the menu. The amount of flavor packed into this dish is truly a delight for your palate, especially when you combine the other veggies that come out with the meal. My go to move was to pull out a piece of the rib from the broth and put it on a spoonful of rice. Then drench it with broth and top it with some kimchi. Flavor explosion. Making frequent trips to Buford Highway inspired my adventure into Korean food. I noticed a number of Korean restaurants along Buford highway and one thing led to another..........I walked into Hae Woon Dae one afternoon after reading a few reviews. The food was spectacular...........Kimchi........and a number of pickled vegetables arrived as the first course.........each vegetable dish created this spectacular sensation. The service was so pleasant and I made an instantaneous connection which made every return visit worth while. Pricey but worth it. The quality of meat and the tenderness of the chicken, plus all the cool fixin's to mix with your food is a definitely plus. Cooking at your table is an experience. Our server was very patient and friendly. We had an autistic teen with us and she was very patient and friendly with him. She also took the time to show us how to make a lettuce wrap the meat/condiments. I give it 4 because our party of 6 was place in a private enclosed booth. A bit claustrophobic for me sitting on the inside, plus it really heats up once the food starts cooking. Also, though our waitress this time around was very friendly. I'm always pretty skeptical of asian foods, I guess mostly buffet type places at least. So when my roommates convinced me into checking out Korean BBQ i was hesitant but went along with it. Boy am I glad i decided to go! When we first got there was a funny misunderstanding about we wanted to drink, as i was trying to pronounce HITE (Korean beer) and our server brought me a hot tea. That withstanding, I was totally unprepared for what kind of foods they were putting in front of me. All four of us ordered two orders of spicy shrimp, one order of spicy chicken, and one of spicy pork. Thinking we could handle it, we had our server cook in the jalepenos into our meals, and after foolishly eating too many of those japs, by the time we got to the spicy pork our mouths were burning, and i couldn't drink enough HITE! i do think that the entrees were pretty expensive, but i suppose if you eat enough Kim-chee (sp?) you can get your money's worth. i gave this place a four because of the experience, which was something i'm glad i got talked into. oh! and the best part is that they are opening an adult theatre in that same plaza where couples get in free! how about that!? read more

As far as Korean BBQ goes, this is the standard place in the Atlanta Metro area. The food is good quality, the place is open pretty late, and there is always a steady flow of clientele in there (always a good sign). I get more and more of a sense that this is one of the most popular in Atlanta. Until i find a better one, this is the place i take first timers to experience good Korean BBQ. read more

Had a really great experience! The food was good. We grilled there, you have to order two to grill. Total came out to about $65, thought it was kind of pricey but I didn't mind. made a stop in atlanta for lunch on our way to augusta. the buford hwy right off the bypass is like the korean town. we searched online and this place showed up on the list of best korean barbecue in the atlanta. we ordered spicy chicken and spicy pork bbq. did not care much for the chicken but the pork was really good. our server even did most of the cooking for us. though they dont serve as much appetizers unlike the korean restaurant (mamas house) up in indy. overall it was pretty good. read more

Looking for authentic Korean food but most places were about to close because it was almost 9:00 PM but this place was open and I'm so glad we came! Be adventurous and give it a try. It's really quite good and a fun experience. The food is more like 3 stars but the experience makes it 4. Hardly any Asian food in GA comes close to ones in CA, but this one is up there. The bulgogi was not only very tasty, but came in a pretty sizeable portion sizzling hot. The banchan even came with lettuce to wrap the rice with. However, the kimchi was more sour than I would've liked. Good service considering the whole staff was mesmerized by the Korea vs Australia World Cup match. Korean BBQ always seems to be more enjoyable with a larger group of people. That's how I visited Hae Woon Dae, and I had a great time. Yummy bulgogi and appetizers. Love this place wish it were closer. Whenever we are out this way we go because well I crave it. The dumplings are awesome and we usually get the bulgugie(sp?). The price really soured this place on me. The BBQ is decent, not amazing, but decent. We ordered a lot of items, beef chicken pork squid, and it ended up being $55 per person. Nice selection of side items for wraps. The coals are delivered precariously, and some of our food was over cooked because of the large crowd we weren't given tools. read more

Well, this was my first Korean BBQ and well, I guess it is not my thing ... I tried both the smoked Mackrel and BBQ beef. The fish was good, albeit a little dry and full of bones. Unfortunately, these were not small enough to swallow and not linked enough to remove easily. Not as flavourful as other wood smoked fish I have had. The beef was OK. Large portion so we took some home and reused in another dish and it actually tasted much better on the second day and infused the surrounding dishes quite nicely with its flavour! The best part of the meal was probably the bottled beer. Who knew the Koreans brew this well!!! Plus it has a little bottle opener sticker that turns white when it is no longer in optimal temperature and who wants to drink beer at non-optimal temperatures so you have to chug it! They also have a 19% abv Korean vodka so I will try that if I ever go back and am not the driver. The place is pricey for what you get. $30pp min with drink, tax, tip if you want a live grill station. I cannot believe people actually like this place! The service is pitiful. The waitress seemed to want to kick us out before we even sat down. The food is way overpriced! Twenty-something bucks for an order of Kalbi? You've got to be kidding me! Especially with the portions they give. The spicy pork was even more disgusting. Good stuff. This is my first experience with a Korean Barbeque place. It was late- past eleven pm when we showed up, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. We decided to order the bul gogi and three orders of dumplings to share, and it was more than enough food for the three of us. 1. Overpriced at about $22.99 per wood fired, table-top grille entree (duck was $32.99). You get about as much meat per entry as a decent Firehouse. The first batch tasted like some type of petroleum based accelerant that might have been used to keep the wood fire burning rapidly. Definitely didn't taste like wood to me. 2. Not good cuts of meat. Duck was crazy thin and was about 25% pure fat. I had to trim it to eat it. I have had duck many times and never remember having to do that in the past. Beef was chewy. 3. The ambiance is 80's laminate. Dull and without emotion. Tacky would be a good word, 4. Service is weird in that they reach over you to set the wood fire bucket into the recessed area in the table and continue to reach over you to stir the food. It was quite uncomfortable. Summary, if you love good Korean food, there are better restaurants out that that provide far more bang for the buck. read more

I have been going to Hae Woon Dae since the mid-90's, and the decor hasn't changed much at all. A hole in the wall describes it best. But I've always gone for the food, not the decor; and the food has not changed much over the years, and that's a great thing! I've always been pleased with their BBQ. DISGUSTING- BUGS IN FOOD. I found an insect in my food and told the waitress. She took a look at it, and upon realizing that it was a bug, walked away, pretending to inspect it further, rolled it in between her fingers, came back and said "It's not a bug, it was a burnt flake in the food." I said to her "I saw the antennas on the bug before I saw you roll it up with your finger." She kind of just ignored me then walked away. I believe this is a horrible way to conduct business. Not only did she not apologize, she LIED and told me that I was wrong, didn't approach me the rest of the dinner, then charged me for my meal. Wow, where do I begin. Service was terrible. And everything was filthy. I had to ask for clean plates and clean utensils. After I complained, the server simply stopped coming by so I had to get up to get what I needed and I had to go to the register to pay so I could leave. Needles to say, the tip reflected the services received. The meat was very low quality full of gristle and fat and very expensive. Definitely NOT worth the high price. The trimmings were old and dry and we didn't eat them. Needles to say, we will never return to this place again. read more
