What can I say? I'm not a big fan of hotpot. I had tried this chain in Southeast Asia once, the only reason I came here is because my wife loves hotpot. She's been craving it for a while, and finally last night I took her here. There are a lot of other options for hot pot establishment, however she wants to play it safe and prefer Hai Di Lao as it's known for their superb service and attentiveness. It didn't disappoint, for the price point and the service you received, top notch, their customer service is above and beyond, this place is huge and have 2 sides. Their seasoning buffet is clean, anything empty gets filled again quickly. Free flow of sauteed broccoli and sliced carrot with garlic, not sure if its pig ear, but I don't touch those, sauteed mushrooms. They also have slices of melon, blueberries. For dessert, they have purple rice congee, and brown sugar konjac jelly. Wifey did all the ordering, I just follow suit. Hotpot has never been my strongest food of choice, I'll let her take the lead in ordering lol. Overall, pretty satisfied with everything. Definitely a come back again spot whenever wife craves it. From the eye glass wipes and baggies for your mask, to the luxury bathroom with toothbrushes and perfume provided everything here makes you feel cared for. Since they get busy they even have games you can play in the waiting area along with hot tea, and even origami paper. Service was also attentive and on point. Amazing!!! I have to admit it isn't as up to par as some of the hot pot places I have tried in China. But this is the best hot pot place in the US by MILES. It ends up quite pricey, especially if you have a large appetite. But I found it worth it because it's an experience in itself. The service is incredible. Water refilled, soup broth refilled as soon as it gets just a little low. Servers always checking and willing to help you out with any request. They also offered to put in some of the ingredients in the pot for us and changed out our plates when it got messy. There are individual booths and everything is spotless clean. They bring out an iPad for you to order on and explain how to use it if it's your first time. There are options for it in Chinese and English. All the servers speak Mandarin and English. You choose the soup base first and you can pick up to 4 different options. Then you order everything you want individually, like meats, veggies, noodles, etc. You then get a sauce from the sauce bar. If you aren't too sure how to make your own sauce, there are suggestions posted there. But I feel like you can't go wrong with some sesame sauce, chili oil, lots of scallion and garlic, and red peppers. When your ingredients come out, you put it into the boiling soup base at your table. Once it's fully cooked to your liking, you fish it out and and eat it with the sauce. I'm sure if you need help with anything, the servers will help you out. Then after you're done, they bring you ice cream. I highly highly recommend the handmade fish balls with roe. They are incredible and SO much better than the frozen ones you can get at any asian supermarket. Also recommend noodles - must have in my opinion. I also like the tofu here. It soaks up the broth amazingly. The shrimp paste is also great. It sounds weird, but it is basically minced shrimp and you scoop it so it forms little shrimp balls in the hot soup. This is by far my favorite hotpot place in the city! The service is amazing and the quality of the food is great. We arrived at the restaurant at around 6PM on a Saturday night. There were at least 20 parties ahead of us and we waited about 1.5 hours before being seated. Good news is that they have a little waiting area with free drinks, games, origami, and cell phone screen protectors that you can use while you wait. After we were seated inside, we were given an apron, a bag to put our masks in, and a iPad to place our orders. There's also a sauce bar with complimentary fruits, side dishes, and soup. We got the four soup base option (tomato, mushroom, spicy, and bone broth). All soup bases came with a decent amount of ingredients. I especially recommend the tomato and the spicy broth as both were very authentic. Unfortunately, the dancing noodle was no longer an option due to the pandemic. We've come back several times since my first review. I must say, the one thing that is always consistent here is the amazing service. A few months ago we came with a group of 4 for lunch. Because of Covid, they decided to use disposable containers for all the food and the sauces. You could not go and make your own sauces, instead you have to pay for each sauce individually, this includes even just salt. This was pretty unusual but we were generally okay with it. We ordered our food and selected our broth first since we wanted to clarify that with the staff, and got the broth all set up before receiving the sauces. When the sauces were brought over, the server accidentally slipped his hand on the disposable containers and they dropped into the boiling soup, which splashed at us, and more specifically, the sauce splashed mostly at me. Yes we were wearing the aprons, but the aprons don't cover the top of your shirt. Generally I think some people may have been pretty upset if they were wearing a really nice shirt, but of course for hotpot you generally should think twice about that outfit decision. Luckily the broth was not really boiling point yet, but I was wearing a white shirt that had orange sauce all over it at that point. Of course the staff were very apologetic, gave me a shirt to change into, and offered to hand wash my white shirt. In the meanwhile we received some complementary premium meats, a mixed sauce prepared by the staff (which I think they should just do anyway instead of making people mix paid sauces), and towards the end, I got my white shirt back whiter than it was before. I was actually really shocked that they were able to wash out the orange stains. Overall we enjoyed the meal despite the hiccup. Afterwards we spent some time in the waiting area playing the Supreme machine and folding origami. For those new to hotpot. It's a little cramped cause of the electric cooker in the center of the table. So theres no leg room. But the food was fresh, and so was the sauce. Do me a favor and prepare sauce from the bar to go with your food cause what are you doing eating hot pot without the sauce? I highly recommend this combination, one full scoop of peanut butter sesame sauce, one scoop of the beef sauce, one scoop of the tofu sauce, one scoop of the seafood soy sauce, and finally one and a half scoops of the minced garlic. Mix well. And you gotta have the fatty sliced beef to go with this. If you do everything I suggested, after you take one bite you will be left with one word: BUSSIN! I recommend you eat the vegetables without the sauce to clear the pallete. Then all the meat and seafood goes with the sauce. After reading all the great reviews on Yelp about Haidilao, I decided to finally check it out for lunch. After entering, I had to take an elevator to the 2nd floor. There was no wait when I arrived so I was promptly escorted to a booth...right behind another party that was already eating. It's nice that they request to see your vaccination card before letting you enter the dining room but I would've preferred being seated farther away from other customers since the place wasn't too busy yet. The servers were really nice and brought out their mascot to "accompany" me as I dined alone. It was a cute touch. They also instructed me how to use the tablet to order, asked if I wanted a bowl of the soup, brought me some cold veggies from the sauce station (complimentary now!) and cleared my empty plates as soon as they were empty. Before I paid the bill, my server also brought me their complimentary ice cream ( they currently have vanilla and rose flavors). The only awkward moment was when it was relatively quiet and my server was standing near right to my table which made it feel like they were watching me eat. Other than that, I can tell they pride themselves on their service. I went with the four soup bases (2 water, 1 tomato, 1 mushroom). The smaller soup size is more than enough to dip your hot pot foods in. The mushroom soup comes with a bit of mushrooms already so I didn't have to order that. The tomato broth...get it if you're a fan of tomatoes, if not, maybe try other broths. I wish this location had the 1/2 portion sizes like other locations do. That way I could try more dishes. I ordered the kobe beef belly and napa cabbage and all of that was already a $40 meal (incl tip). If you want some fruit, there's also cantaloupe and grapes at the sauce station. Like other reviews say, definitely pay a visit to their bathroom because it's one of the best restaurant bathrooms I've ever used (might be a bit biased because of the bidets). Yes, a warm toilet seat and toilet seat cleaner solution too. Also the toilet paper is as soft as Charmin's. Not to mention the amenities incase you need a pad, want to brush your teeth or want to blow dry your hair. Got a chance to check out the waiting area as I left and there's definitely a lot less to offer compared to pre-covid times. Out of all the hot pot places I've been to, the broth at haidilao has always been top tier. We had the four types of broths: pork bone broth, laksa, spicy broth, and golden chicken broth. I don't know what they put in the golden chicken broth, but it was so ridiculously flavorful. I even posted on reddit seeing if anyone knew the recipe for it (no one knew). I knocked one star because they did change their sauce format from when I last visited a little over a year ago. They gave half the kind of sauces now and have converted the other half for desserts. Ive been to Haidilao in Shanghai and Seoul before, but this was my first time visiting a US location. I'm happy to say the food and service was really on par with any other location. Reservations open on their site about 2 weeks in advance. Get a dinner reservation if you can, or be prepared to wait 1-2 hours. Also, they seem lax with outside drinks policy as I saw most people were bringing in bubble tea from other places to go with their meal. If you get the tomato soup base, ask your server to drink some of the soup and they will bring you little bowls with ground meat to ladle some soup into. A delicious off the menu item. Awesome! It brings the food to your table on it's own and says ni hao, the waiter/waitress then comes and takes it from the robot and gives it to you. The robot than rides away until skynet takes over. Ordering food is high tech from a tablet, however the app can be a little confusing. The waiting room has games to play so you won't get bored waiting. Price: Price is very pricy. Not all you can eat. Broths-the broths all tasted very fresh and high quality. The spicy one you could taste the sichuan peppercorns and was not overly oily. The tofu seafood one had a huge chunk of tofu in it, the "seafood" however was just some imitation crab. This is, by far, the best hot pot restaurant I've ever been to. There are so many things that different Haidilao, and I've heard about the hype for such a long time. Haidilao is completely and totally worth the hype. There's currently a new location in Dallas that I'll have to go to so I don't know how different my hometown's Haidilao will be, but the Flushing Haidilao is incredible. I came with three friends, and from the start, we were so impressed with the service and amenities. They have nail and massage services that you can utilize while waiting for your table, but I'm not sure how much they charge or if they charge at all. A server came by, and the entire time we were seated, servers constantly came up to check up on us, refill broth, and let us know of amenities. It's the first hot pot place I've been to that has so many broths, and I love, love, love the fact that they give us so many to choose from. All of their broths are excellent, and they even ask if you want a bowl filled with some spices and green onions so that you can pour some broth to make a soup. Haidilao offers hair ties, aprons, gloves, phone chargers, towelettes, and mask bags upon arrival, and we were all so impressed. Moreover, the women's bathrooms have mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, Dior perfume, a Tyson blowdryer, floss, and more. It's legitimately the most decked out restroom I've ever been to in a restaurant. The food is incredible. I half wish it was AYCE, but I can't eat very much so paying for what I can finish is probably more worth it. I enjoyed all the broths we ordered, and the service was phenomenal. As a fan of the SF Bay Area Heidilao, I was surprised to find the Flushing location to be even better! They've really got the experience down to an art. We tried to get a reservation on NYE but all the slots were taken, so we tried our hand at the waitlist. But coming in from Manhattan, it would be tricky timing our arrival with the waitlist - if they called our number before we got there, would we lose our table? Boarding the 7 Line at around 4:30pm, we were #14 on the waitlist. By the middle of the ride, it had jumped down to #4, and stayed there for a bit, until a couple stops before Flushing, when I suddenly got a text saying "You have been removed for a No-Show; please talk to the host for recovery." Oh no! We hurriedly rushed to the restaurant, getting lost and turning around once along the way, as we'd never been there before. They're located above a "Space BBQ" restaurant which might've been a fine alternative if we didn't get in. Finally, we climbed surprisingly long stairs up to the waiting room, where the line was relatively light, and after showing the hostess our text message, got lucky as she put us next to get a table. The actual restaurant isn't huge but offers a lot of cute booths with ergonomically designed hot pot tables. I liked the rotatable shelves that you could stack dishes on. As always, they have the sauce buffet, at opposite sides of the restaurant, fully stocked with all the condiments, spicy bean sprouts, pink pineapple, spicy pig ears, watermelon seeds, peanuts, purple rice soup, and brown sugar crystal jelly (yum!), random snacks. I tried one of their recipes with meat sauce with sesame oil, diced celery, scallions, and mushroom sauce - divine. The noodle spinner made a few appearances. Also saw someone dressed as Sun Wukong walk in but didn't stay long enough to see him perform. Alas. When we left, the waiting area was packed like an embassy. The sauce bar is extensive - there's this Chinese jelly dessert with red bean, porridge, sesame balls, and lots of snacks/crackers. This place probably doesn't need any more raving reviews but here I am. I love this place for a higher end hotpot experience. The wait can get long and this spot has a great way of accommodating customers -- they have an area where you can get your nails done and another area where you can play board games as you wait. The nail area is pretty far away from the dining area if you're worried about whether or not it's sanitary. We had a reservation so we were seated promptly. I highly recommend parking in the garage directly next-door-- you probably won't end up paying more than six dollars for two hours. The ordering system is next generation because the menu is all on iPads and you can submit any additional dishes you would like to be brought to the table. I was also blown away by the table having a wireless charging pad. The little thoughtful touches at restaurants really elevate the experience. It's more inexpensive to get four different types of broth and I highly recommend the tomato broth. The spicy broth is really popular but I found it to be too oily. They also have a sauce bar with a chart that recommends different sauce combinations. The wait staff was very friendly and insightful throughout my dining experience and they even brought us sauces that they recommended to go with certain dishes that we ordered. Between the two of us our bill only came out to about $100. I'd recommend not ordering so much at once because at first we felt like we didn't order enough food but after everything came we weren't even able to finish it all. read more
