Food is quite tasty. We enjoy it. I hadn't been in years. Went in January, had a fantastic experience. 4 stars first time. Went V-Day....not so much - 1 star, so I will give a three star combined. Sat down at 6:01 for a 6pm res. Didn't get our order taken for a half hour. Drinks didn't arrive til about 40-45 mins in. Our appetizer came a half hour after our first sushi roll arrived. It was a total of two hours that should've been 1 hour or so. The woman, who I think is the owner, was hustling, and very overwhelmed. The gentleman running F.O.H with her was not doing as much at all, which was frustrating to watch - why am I watching this person move a purse into the back room when I haven't gotten water or my drinks order yet? Bad communication between the two of them, and I only say this bc I hope they see it to help better their ops there. At first I was skeptic, with such a small hole in the wall place, but it had nice little atmosphere. The menu is a tad limited both for dinner and lunch. Sushi and Sashimi are a tad on the pricey side, but but the fish quality was surprisingly VERY impressive. Mackerel is sweet and salty; cut thick. Salmon melts in your mouth.I also enjoyed how the raw fish trays are presented with an artistic flare (with an orchid!) and ornate cut radishes. It's a great place to go if you have the cash. Went for dinner on a Sat. night. Small one room dimly lit dining area with about a dozen tables and cushioned half booths with a high ceiling with wood beams . Small bar area with about 4 stools looked a little messy at the time .At the time there was one waiter working serving about 7 tables and was a little overwhelmed. I had the crispy calamari with chili sauce. It was very good calamari very tender and crispy and the sauce sweet and not to spicy.For sushi I had an Angel Roll. Seared tuna inside with avocado and eel and tempura flakes on the outside with Japanese mayo .It was ok. I think they went a little to heavy on the mayo , and the tuna did not have much flavor. They also have BYOB so you can save on cocktails.Overall , not so bad dining experience. read more

Not bad. Actually really good sushi. Broad sake menu (10+ choices) including a couple $13 bottles (350ml). Started with a seaweed and a kani salad both of which were excellent starters. Worked our way thru two special rolls and eel sashimi. The "angel roll" was excellent. My husband had another roll with eel which we can't recall the name of (also mouthwatering). I feel like this place gets slept on so often, but it really is the best sushi I've had on the North Fork. It's affordable, and the lunch special is amazing. Great miso soup, great ginger dressing salad. I've had some issues with service, but overall, nothing major to note. It's a cute building, perfectly accessible from the big parking lot behind. The entrance is on the side of the building. When you enter you face the restroom. The base molding was dirty and when I walked into the restaurant it had a fishy smell to it. Once we placed the order I noticed it took a while for our order to arrive regardless, but maybe thats because they had some pick up orders to prepare at the same time. There was only one chef. The sushi was alright. I had better eel avocado roll, it tasted fishy, which shouldnt be the case, I wont be ordered that again. The spicy scallop roll was amazing, the christmas roll was amazing and so was the alaska roll. The yellow tail scallion wasnt anything special, I wont be ordering that again. We just ordered from here for five people. Two of the five had their order messed up. When we called to ask where our salad was, a woman gave us an attitude and responded, "well what do you want to do about it?"... So we asked if it could be delivered to us (since we just picked it up to go and we live five minutes away) or if we could be credited back and both were denied... the other mistake was for an order of what we thought was a simple "plain roll with shrimp, cucumber, and avocado"... we're not sure what else was put into it but there was a thick white unidentified substance LOL (mayo maybe?)... anyway, I understand that mistakes happen but since this was our first time trying this restaurant, we were hoping for more of a pleasant response (apology even?) from the staff. My favorite sushi place around! Before I begin, I want to point out that I'll be reviewing the vegetarian rolls and appetizers, not fish. Anyway, Riverhead Main Street, as many locals know, has some amazing things that make it a delight. There are countless local restaurants with delicious food, this being one! I often start with their vegetable tempura, which is savory, crunchy, and is topped with a delicious batter. Or sometimes The seaweed salad, which has just the right amount of sesame. The miso soup is just what the doctor ordered, especially on a cold and rainy day. The service is friendly, and the rolls. OH THE ROLLS. The sweet potato is always a must for me- it's crunchy, warm, and goes good dipped in soy sauce or their fantastic wasabi! The avocado roll is my other favorite, sometimes with peanuts, sometimes without. With the peanuts, it tastes especially great with the wasabi, giving it all a hole new combo. It's also beautiful in there; the fish tank, the pleasant music and the modest lighting is so relaxing. My whole family loves Haiku, and we've all turned so many friends, coworkers and relatives onto it too! I know with all the other great food in the area it can be hard to choose, but if your in the mood for some tasty Asian cuisine, make this a priority! I love this place! My friends are all from up west and even they love it. The food is fresh and beautifully prepared. The litchee lemonade is the best drink ever. The service is good but can be slow at times when there are a lot of people there. Sometimes there is only one server, but you don't wait too long. I am a big fan of Haiku, especially since before Haiku sushi was hard to come by on the east end (though there are a few other options now). The interior is nice and simple, the service is friendly and quick, and the prices are reasonable. The spicy tuna roll is wonderful, a good combination of fish and sauce (not overwhelmingly doused in mayo). The handful of other rolls I have tried have also been equally good - california rolls, eel avocado, yellowtail, asparagus avocado cucumber. Also, giant plus that the rolls are not enormous - I hate going to a sushi place with rolls you can't fit in your mouth. The fish is always fresh and well prepared. I've had good experiences with most of the appetizers - gyoza, shumai, and fried calamari are all great. Especially the calamari - the tempura batter is light and crisp and the calamari is cooked perfectly (fried calamari tends to get overcooked in many places). The sauce that comes with it is a nice spicy, sweet sauce. It's a small portion, but it's a reasonable size for an appetizer - it can be shared with two people as long as you won't be disappointed about not receiving the usual mound of calamari. The yaki udon is also quite good. The one dish I have consistently found so-so was the beef negimaki - it tastes good, it's just bland. I've had better, more flavorful versions of it. No liquor license, but you can BYOB which is nice. read more
