My favorite Japanese restaurant in Riverhead located conveniently on Main Street with easy access to parking. I'm been here a countless of times and it never disappoints! They have a daily lunch special from 11-3 everyday and my usual order would always be the bento box, because it comes with a variety of options: California roll, choice of an entree, soup, salad, and rice. The sushi rolls here are delicious as well! Other dishes we've ordered before are the shrimp tempura, and salmon teriyaki. Both are equally tasty! The service here is wonderful too and they're very attentive. Overall, highly recommended! read more

This is a little hidden gem in Riverhead. We've been living in Riverhead for several years and never gave this restaurant a chance. We were wrong. I have had better and I have had worse. Maybe when you are the only game in town, as well as being located in Riverhead expectations are not so high. I go there every 2 months after I take my mother to her local doctors. The woman/waitstaff who is the owners wife, will chat it up and take the orders of "regulars" before the "unknowns" like myself who are sitting there with menus down and ready to order for quite a while. I have found the work around is to call and order ahead of arriving there to avoid the long wait for food. And yes Sushi does take a while to prepare, but when the "regulars" come in after us and are served before us it is somewhat insulting and a poor business practice. read more

Came here after going to the outlets on a Sunday afternoon with boyfriend. Was super quick, in and out. The waitress was very sweet. The sushi tasted super fresh and sooo good. If we lived closer we'd definitely frequent this place. I got the Baby Roll (special roll) and a crispy tuna avocado roll. boyfriend got the Dynamite Roll and a whitefish Roll. All of it was delicious. I should have gone with just the special Roll because there was SO much going on with it, it was so filling!! Filthy!! Why would you wear masks but not keep your place clean when you open it for business? The floors, tables, chairs were so dirty I decided not to eat there. Operating under pandemic conditions does not give you the right to invite customers into a filthy space and have them risk getting sick from other bacteria/virus. Did I come in on an off day? Is the staff so lazy they won't wipe surfaces after prior customers? This is what was done BEFORE the pandemic. Why are you even wearing masks at this point? I don't even care about it as much as basic sanitary conditions, I'm disgusted and embarrassed for the establishment. I could barely eat lunch at Applebee's after I saw your place. Is the kitchen as dirty? I can't claim since I haven't seen it but the sitting area may be a reflection of the unsanitary conditions inside. I was so disappointed. I am all about supporting struggling small businesses and never write such negative reviews but I'm really concerned for the other people that came in today and will continue to eat here. Food poisoning chances may be higher at places like these than others. First thing they did for me at Applebee's while telling me to wait a minute so that they can SANITIZE the table. Just wipe the damn things off layers of dust, crumbs, dirt and grease, do the same to your chairs and then sweep and mop the visible garbage on the floors!! Got pegged for jury duty out in riverhead. The government gives you 1.5 hours for lunch so I wandered into this joint. I had the lunch special which was 2 rolls and miso soup for $8.50. Mikado in lynbrook gives you 2 rolls, choice of miso or clear soup and salad and a little fruit dish after meal all for $7.50.... I still have yet found a place that gives you value like Mikado. I will say the rolls and miso were great. I also ordered and paid extra for the salad. Ginger dressing was superb. Also ordered sashimi (white tuna and salmon). Both were great. Sushi, excellent. The first thing you look for at a restaurant is the entrance and it wasn't where I thought it would be. I went to the "front" of the place, where an entrance would normally be, but it wasn't there. I checked the left side of the restaurant and it wasn't there. I had to look for signs that said "Entrance Here" to find it. When you walk in the door, you see a beautiful place with great ambiance. I wasn't paying much attention to details because I didn't have much time. I ordered my food in advance, went to the bathroom and had my plate ready on my table. That's pretty fast service. Then again, it wasn't a cooked meal. I always try to get something new, so I ordered a Kani Salad and a Spicy Scallop Avocado Roll. I love scallops, so it must be good! ...AND IT WAS! This place is extremely rude and racist. I came in to have dinner with my husband and the host told us there will be a wait which was actually fine. We waited for a while and then the host called us all over to sit and i was walking over, they singled me out and yelled that i should stay back. The whole restaurant was staring at us in disbelief. We waited again and then he proceeded to sit a larger group that came after us. When we were finally "allowed to sit," we waited for the waiter to bring some water and then told her we were ready to order when she is ready - she proceeded to yell and said "there are other people ahead of you." We were not even in a hurry, we just wanted to start a conversation and order appetizers as a starter. The worst experience for anyone who is willing to come to a restaurant to have dinner. ZERO stars is what they deserve. We actually didn't eat there because the staff was so obnoxious when we walked in. We wanted to have dinner in Riverhead last week and we like sushi. Seems to have good reviews. However, we walked in and were behind a gentleman. A woman came out and started talking to him, asked if we were together. We said no, but she continued talking over and across him to us. I asked if they had outdoor seating as a pic in their review shows outside seating. She obnoxiously said, no. While on a one month vacation in Riverhead, I stumbled upon Haiku and ordered sushi to go. I don't eat rice, and Haiku worked with me to design my own roll and it was DELICIOUS! They were so accommodating. A week later, a major sushi craving hits, but now I have a broken foot. I called Haiku and the owner offered to personally deliver the order to my house. Tried to order dinner tonight. Placed a large order: when I called the restaurant to confirm it was going to be delivered I spoke with the owner who was very rude and told me she has nothing to fo with bringing orders. I believe the best way to sort of "frame" my review is in the form of a timeline 8:06: we arrive, we are essentially pointed to a table. Okay cool 8:34: we are addressed for the first time. You read that right. We were not addressed for 28 minutes. Our food orders are taken, along with soda orders. The waitress/hostess seems immensely confused by the concept of "separate checks" 8:55: Drinks and miso are served. 50 minutes after we arrived, 20 after we placed the order, we got our sodas. That's insane. Mind you, by this point, the restaurant was starting to be less busy. People who had arrived 20 minutes after us had gotten food. A person in our party asked our waitress about the status of our order and received the words "it's going honey" 9:11: food arrives. Half of us didn't get chopsticks at first, and I never got a napkin (I grant you, I didn't notice until I needed it, so I never asked, but that's like Restaurants 101) 9:30: we finish. We are given checks and it goes through fairly easily Goods: I am only not giving this a one star because the food was alright. I wouldn't call my personal meal stellar, but it was fine, especially for the price Bads: The wait time, that was insane. God forbid we had gotten appetizers. The waitress. Christ, the waitress. Food is quite tasty. We enjoy it. I hadn't been in years. Went in January, had a fantastic experience. 4 stars first time. Went V-Day....not so much - 1 star, so I will give a three star combined. Sat down at 6:01 for a 6pm res. Didn't get our order taken for a half hour. Drinks didn't arrive til about 40-45 mins in. Our appetizer came a half hour after our first sushi roll arrived. It was a total of two hours that should've been 1 hour or so. The woman, who I think is the owner, was hustling, and very overwhelmed. The gentleman running F.O.H with her was not doing as much at all, which was frustrating to watch - why am I watching this person move a purse into the back room when I haven't gotten water or my drinks order yet? Bad communication between the two of them, and I only say this bc I hope they see it to help better their ops there. My Honey and I love sushi and sashimi and we found this place driving by on Main Street, Riverhead. The reviews were good and I got a good recommendation out on the golf course [yes I play golf in January on Long Island and, clearly others do too]; so we went. Not disappointed but for the fact that they only serve beer and wine for spirits. But the food was fresh and very good! My Honey loved the shumai; said: "It's the best I've ever had!" Traveling the world looking for good shumai. We've been back twice and will probably be back again before the week is out. read more

This Riverhead Japanese spot has lasted a while. Interior is nice with high ceilings and beautiful art work spread around. The salad was a let down, the dressing seems to be more mayonnaise based and not as flavorful. Sushi rolls are small but the fish is fresh. Sashimi entree, though fresh, did not come with a side of rice so if you're not hungry, that'll be fine. Service is very nice and prices aren't anything to complain about.
