I did a walk-in appointment today for a haircut and blowout after grabbing lunch next door. Before today, I hadn't been to this location; however, I'm happy that I did! When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by one of the stylists who happened to be at the front desk. Lashelle took me back to wash my hair - she was so gentle and thorough, especially because my scalp is on the drier side during the winter. My hair was long and I wanted to cut a good chunk of it (several inches). When it came time for my haircut, she took her time and made sure it was exactly how I wanted it. She added the many layers, and took her time blowdrying and styling it to showcase the layers. When she turned me around, I wasn't expecting the overall hairdo as I just wanted a simple blowout. I was amazed - I loved it! She made me look and feel amazing. I am overall so pleased with my experience, and I may just have to make the drive back out to see Lashelle the next time I'm looking to make a big chop again! read more

On 4/21/24 I called the store to leave a message for the manager and was told they did not take messages. I called back the next day and was told the manager was not there and asked if I would like to leave a message. The manager did call back and wanted to see my pics and would call me back, which she did, but I missed the call. She left a t message she would call again that evening. It's now wensday and I haven't heard back. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated. I will never go back to any Hair Cuttery store again. I ended up going to Progressions Hair Salon in Rockville and was able to get it fixed. It's extremely short now, but at least it does not look like a five year old cut and styled my hair. read more

She was apologetic and told me another stylist could be with me in 20 minutes . Decided to get a blow out after my massage next door. I knew better than to go to hair cuttery but I just wanted a blow out and curls. They took me earlier than my scheduled appointment which was good but when I got in the chair I knew it was a mistake. I asked the stylist to use "Its a 10" she said did I want to buy it and use it because she didn't have it....I knew right then she didn't know what she was doing. She put that horrendous Cibu serum in my hair and kept putting in through my blow out I had to tell her to stop because she didn't need all that product! I have no idea how she got her cosmetology license because she did horrific! When I finally saw my blow out I asked for a flat iron. This woman didn't even know how to flat iron correctly! She kept running it though and not slowly and did not use a comb! I was appalled! I just wanted to be done I was over it. So I proceeded to go buy it's a 10 on my way to the register her ass tries to come over and says yes this is good- Like yea I know it's good that's why I asked you to use it. She tries to charge me 30+ extra for long hair and curling iron. I said umm my hair isn't even curled! That's why I asked for a flat iron because she didn't curl it at all! I said I have no problem paying for service that is quality, I visit 5 star salons such as KARMA in Georgetown and Piaf- I'm not paying you 70$ for a blowout and flat iron you didn't do a good job at all. Luckily Dana assisted and gave me my service for $40 I still tipped lakeshia $10 because I felt sorry for her. But my goodness woman you cannot do hair at all pick another profession lol. read more

I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the worst haircut that I have ever gotten. I've had some bad haircuts and usually I don't take it that seriously, because my hair grows back pretty fast. The barber didn't care. When she was finished I told her I was unsatisfied with the cut. I told her to fix it. She tried and failed, so she got a different barber to try and fix my hair and she couldn't because the damage was already done. My side burns weren't even cut straight. Both were diagonal. One slanted down and the other slanted up. You literally went to school for this. If you're not passionate about your job then you need to do something else. Don't waste both of our time. read more

The cut and style itself was really good. But I bought some products, trusting my stylist, and a couple sort of unsettling things happened. When I opened the products at home, there were not any protective sealing. Then I noticed that there was a hair in the product- clearly not mine, as I hadn't used it yet & it was not my or my partner's hair type. I went back to exchange- the folks working there gave me no trouble. BUT they put the jar with the hair in it directly back on the shelf- at the front, so whoever purchases it next will get the used product that I was returning. I'm fairly confident that the other product I bought had also been used, but I can't prove it (and I have some ethic, so I won't insist on an exchange if I'm not certain). The store is clearly selling already used product. If I am paying full price for something, I would expect it to be a new, unused bottle/jar. Based on this, I probably will not go back. read more

I've been coming to this location for several years now and I've always had a great experience. Tiffany did my hair for about 2 years and she relocated. I now only see Angelika or Imani. Both do a fantastic job on my thick hair. Saturday July 14 2019 I visited the location to see my favorite stylist Angelika to have my hair dyed to cover up these gray hairs. My girl never steers me wrong and I TRUST her judgement. We do the color I wait and the color doesn't turn out. She see the disappointment and Immediately knows I'm not happy. As always she tells me not to worry she wasn't charging me for it. We continue with blow drying my hair as she does weekly... still not happy but know it's not Angelika fault. Not by any means upset with her. This is when it gets interesting!!!! Angelika and I are going to check out. Angelika still trying to make me feel better about the situation and tells me what I should try next. As I always do I trust her judgment. And will always take her advise when it come to my hair because she never steers me wrong. So of course Angelika has to tell the manager of the location what happened and they go in the back to discuss. Cool with me!!! They both come out and Angelika says she needs to see your hair. The manager who is new to the location doesn't take me to a seat she checks my hair in the middle of the salon. Then just says ok! Never says anything else but ok! I was offended because she was treating me like I was in the wrong because the product didn't work on my hair. She is never pleasant and seems has very stand off attitude. Again Angelika was very professional and still was trying to make the best of the situation. The manager was treating me like I just wanted something for free. When I come there weekly and just so happens I visited the salon on Wednesday and Saturday this week. I have no problem paying when I get the service I came for. I've been to several Hair Cuttery locations many times, including this one, and while it's not a fancy salon, I've always gotten reasonably good haircuts and eyebrow shaping. This time, not so much. I've been going back and forth trying to decide whether to leave a review, but hopefully I can help other people avoid the treatment I received. Short version - make an appointment with Dana or Tiffany. Those two are great. There may be a few other good stylists there but others need more training to say the least. I arrived right at opening on Sunday morning, expecting to be there for about an hour. I let the woman at the register know I'd like a shampoo/haircut and eyebrow shaping and she said she didn't know how to do eyebrows and referred me to her colleague. Second stylist wasn't set up yet and sat me down to wait, which was fine. I let her know I wanted a shampoo/haircut, plus eyebrow shaping. Then I saw a sign that said free deep conditioning with shampoo/cut/blowdry and let her know I'd like that as well. I've gotten the deep conditioning before and it had gone smoothly. For every haircut I've gotten before, the stylist shampoos my hair, puts on the deep conditioner, and lets that sit while she does my eyebrows. This stylist started in on my brows right away, with what seemed like unmelted wax. I try to assume the best of people and let her do her thing. Unfortunately, even though I specifically asked her to keep my natural shape and only clean up the edges, she gave me that unattractive too-thin eyebrow look, and didn't even clean up the area between my brows. Thankfully eyebrows grow back fairly quickly, though I'll look scraggly for a while. Then she shampooed my hair with cold water even though I told her it was too cold, applied the conditioner, and put me under the blow dryer with a shower cap on. I asked how long, since this part was new to me. She said 10 minutes. Next thing I know, she's cutting another client's hair and it's been almost 30 minutes. She doesn't look anywhere near done. I considered just leaving but I don't really have time to start the process over again another day. I'd already been there almost an hour. So I go back to the first stylist who just finished another cut, and asked her if she could please put me next in line so I could get finished. She rinsed my hair and asked what I wanted. I said to trim the ends and redo the layers. She started in, using techniques that seemed different from every other time I've gotten layers, but again I try to assume the best of people. Then she added some greasy product to the top of my head and started roughly blowdrying (today, even after two shampooings, the grease is still there, I have no idea why she thought it would be a good idea to put grease on my thin-textured white girl hair). All this time, she had me turned away from the mirror. She finally turned me around, and it looked like I had two different hair cuts one on top of the other. I asked her to please cut the front so it framed my face better. It wasn't working. Resigned to my awful haircut and misshapen brows, I got up and paid. I probably should have refused to pay, but I was still in shock. She tried to charge me for the deep conditioning, and couldn't even figure out how to use the computer. Then, thankfully, Tiffany paused from her client and asked me to stay so she could fix my haircut. She clearly knew what she was doing, and repaired the damage as best she could, blending the layers and framing my face a bit. I am happy that at least I can go about without a hat for the next month until it grows out! I tipped her $5 for her five minutes work and finally left. I had been there for two hours, most of it spent trying to not cry or yell. What I had hoped would be a relaxing morning turned out to be horrible. I've learned my lesson regarding Hair Cuttery - make an appointment with one of the more experienced stylists, or risk looking like a child cut your hair. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at Hair Cuttery for years. I have naturally wavy hair and have been wearing it short for the past few years. Overall my experiences have been good with Hair Cuttery. I went into the location at Laurel Towne Center several months ago to get my hair trimmed. I was first kind of pissed when the Stylist at the front states that she couldn't pull me up in the system. I tried not to get upset but that is how I track who I have seen or shall I say who has cut my hair, how is that possible that I mysteriously disappeared from the system. She tried, both my phone number and my name were no longer in the system. Of course I didn't go with my gut instinct and walk out the door. I'd wanted the same woman that had cut my hair the last time I was at this location to cut my hair this day but of course since according to their system I'd never been to Hair Cuttery, we wouldnt know who had cut my hair, I felt lost. I went back and forth with this woman about how cutting your hair was serious business and you should feel comfortable with the person and no offense I dont know you or your technique. So why, why did I let this woman cut my hair. It was a horrible cut and I wish I would've gotten her name. Let me simply say she was an older foreign woman. I am part foreign and am by no means implying that because she was foreign that's why she did such a horrible job. Maybe she did a horrible job because the communication was so poor amongst us. I was saying one thing and who know what she was receiving on her end. The woman that I wanted to cut my hair was a black woman(brown skin) with a short hair cut. She had a medium to large build. She was young, maybe early to mid 20's and she was new I believe to Hair Cuttery when this location initially opened. Her workstation was second from the front on the right hand side as you come into the door. If someone knows who this woman is please let me know. I will not hold it against Hair Cuttery on a whole because I got one jacked up hair cut but I do feel they should make sure their stylists understand the English language so that there aren't any misunderstandings as it pertains to hair cuts. Customers should leave satisfied and if I am unable to find the woman that cut my hair a few years ago I will not be revisiting Hair Cuttery again. read more

To those who gave or are inclined to give Hair Cuttery less than 5 stars, I hear ya. But hear me out as this is my first time reviewing anything. That's right. Not even a single review on an Amazon order or meal from a restaurant that I now associate with days spent next to a toilet. Right here is my debut. I have visited multiple Hair Cuttery locations many times in the past and have always left the salon less than satisfied every time. I never left reviews about my experiences because I'm also lazy when it comes to my hair. Even when the stylists gave me a cut I didn't know I wanted (still didn't), used extra hot water during a wash that made me tear up (maybe I had something moving about on my scalp she had to kill and steam without warning), colored my forehead and ears for free (to match my hair!), or jumpstarted my heart with surprise charges (no one told me keeping a longer length was going to cost me extra $$ in addition to extra time spent in the shower), I kept going back because the place is just too darn convenient. I don't like to travel far for my hair. And I regretted each return. I just figured this is what happens to perennial ponytail wearers like me. We get punished for not taking better care of our locks. We will never feel what those models in the ads feel after leaving a salon. Almost two years after my last visit to Hair Cuttery, I finally decided I was ready to be punished again, but for the very last time. Today was going to be my farewell cut and color. "I tried, Hair Cuttery. I hung in there, but you just did not want to meet me halfway. I am done crying" is what I had planned to whisper as I walk out the door. I did not get to do that today. Quan, the soft-spoken and unassuming man who took my call, ruined that moment for me. He was very polite and attentive. He figured out, like anyone who had the misfortune of dealing with my hair, that I never learned what to expect in a hair salon, like a mouse that could never find the right path to the cheese in the maze. I told him I wanted long layers, because ponytail, and color. He told me how much that would cost. He wasn't all about free forehead and ears coloring though, which I learned after he told me why he would apply a layer of oil outside my hairline and around my ears. I didn't mind at all. I didn't have gray hair on those areas anyway. He engaged in a conversation when I wanted to chat and quietly worked when I closed my eyes. He did something no stylist has ever done before and that was place cotton inside my ears to keep water from getting in during the wash. The cotton balls not only kept water out but also muffled the noise in the salon. Pretty sure I dozed off at the wash station. Sorry if I snored, Quan. I was told "5 minutes" under the dryer; and 5 minutes later, Quan came back. This was not the 5 hours I was used to! And the blowout was wow. There was no tugging at my already thin hair, no loud dryer next to my ear or a dragon's fire breath sweeping across my scalp. The way I felt in the end, I probably took a power nap during the blowout. I was so happy with Quan's work that I kept raving about him to my sister. My cut and color turned out better than I expected. I am super happy with today's experience that I was compelled to write a review for the first time. Quan, *in my best Jack Nicholson voice* you make me want to be your regular. I promise to return for touch-ups and trims. I will travel to your other location on other days if my boss doesn't buy my sickness on a Monday. I've lived in NYC and I swear once I found Lan at Hair Cuttery it was an answer to a prayer! I have wavy hair but wear it straight in a bob - and always will. I get layers so that if I don't straighten it - it can be curly but I swear by Lan - she's very popular, very sweet and very good at what she does! read more

The person cutting my hair barely spoke English. All I wanted was my bangs to be cut. She kept trying to brush my hair. Then she kept saying she was done when she barely cut them. The girl at the chair next to her had to tell her how to cut bangs. She tells me my bangs are too short I wear my bangs short. We get to the register she has no idea how ring me up, and try to charge me for a regular hair cut and blow dry. I didn't even ask her to blow dry my bangs. Someone had to tell her how to ring me up. Then, I asked for 5 dollars bills when giving my change back. She decided to keep one of the bills..I usually tip people pretty well. I have been to this salon maybe 7 times ( I have a Pixie cut so it requires monthly maintenance). I have been to two different hair stylists, Joni & Lan, and they are both really sweet ladies. I have liked all of my hair cuts from both stylists. Although Lan does go a little heavy with the cutting, she is very good at giving shape to the hair. I really wish that they would take the time to listen to how you want your hair. read more

I've been a customer at this Hair Cuttery for several years now. They have good stylists, some are good at long hair, some good with shorter hair, some good with color. My stylist, Joni, is excellent with all!! I had long hair, to the middle of my back & decided to go short. After watching her do other cuts (I was using another stylist) I made an appt with her. She exceeded my expectations. Awesome short pixie cut!! She does gorgeous color & highlights, makes great recommendations as far as your facial shape & styles that would best fit you. Bring a pic of what you're looking for & I can guarantee you'll walk out happy!! She works 7 days a week, but always call for an appointment, she's very busy. She's very friendly, enjoyable to chat with. That store has a great supply of Redken, Paul Mitchell, Biolage, Bed Head, Cibu (my fave), and other hair products, a small supply of OPI Nail Polish, and various curling & flat irons.
