If you're looking for good Chinese takeout, I recommend heading over to Hunan Cafe. I went yesterday evening and got beef lo-mein. Prices are reasonable depending on what you get. If you're going after dark, I recommend going with a group or parking right by the door because the area can be a bit dicey.

Lunch special; $9.95 I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, with Fried Rice, Egg Rolls and its cold day so I got this Wonton Soup, and Thai Iced Tea on the side. Nom

I recently ordered pickup from here and was very pleased with what I received. My order was ready within 15 minutes and everything came out hot and tasted fresh. The spring rolls were a nice, cheap starter option. They were crispy with really good flavor. The sesame chicken was tender on the inside and with the right amount of crunch on the outside with a healthy ladling of sauce and some nicely cooked broccoli. Nothing extraordinary, but if you're looking for a new go-to takeout Chinese spot, I would highly recommend trying!

Pepper steak was good. Plenty of beef and fresh bell peppers and onion. Pork fried rice had plenty of pork and rice was fried perfectly. I will try other items on the menu next time.

Really enjoyed trying this modern Chinese spot! I ordered the chicken & broccoli and added beef. This dish was very fresh and flavorful and had a great vegetable-to-meat ratio. I heard their employees are working with local non-profits to give back to the community and frontline workers, which is awesome. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to ordering again in the future.

And let's be honest, I was there to judge their famous Tahdig. The inside is beautiful, clad in dark green colors and velvet chairs, it's definitely going for a romantic dinner energy. The floor buzzes with staff and families giving the whole dining room a lively energy. The group had a few picky eaters that got their own dishes, but for the cool kids we shared the Gilani Kebab platter which came with prawns, chicken, lamb; ya, a little bit of everything and was perfect for sharing. The grilled/charred flavor showed through on top of rice and fresh herbs. We also got the whole roasted branzino, cause, who's not up for the challenge. Served in a pistachio citrus sauce over rice, it was very lightly flavored and succulent. The Tahdig did not disappoint, perfectly crisped rice, beautiful color and good flavor! A few dings because the cocktails (and all the drinks) come out very slowly (bar is probably under-staffed) and everything need juuuuuust a little more omff flavor wise. I'm a huge fan of Persian cuisine and the DMV is no slouch here so color me spoiled. The bill is also on par with being neighbors with a Tiffany's; so if you can get your boss to treat you, then go in!!

A few things really stood out: The chana masala that comes with the samosas is OUTSTANDING. The fact that the samosas automatically come with chana masala is exceptional. The samosas themselves are huge, the dough is delicious, and the filling has so much flavor. Definitely not an afterthought here. And can we talk about the rice?! They give you a HUGE serving of rice with your curry. So many Indian restaurants charge extra for rice with a curry, and that annoys me to no end. Just build the rice into the price of the curry! Okay, rant over, because this place gets it right. The shrimp biryani gets an A+++. What impressed me most was that it didn't taste like they used one generic biryani base and tossed shrimp in after the order came in. It was obvious the shrimp had actually been cooked with the biryani, so the flavor was incorporated throughout. And they were NOT skimpy with the shrimp...there were shrimp throughout the entire dish. The people here are just as impressive as the food. Everyone is genuinely customer-centric, constantly checking in without being overbearing, and you can tell they actually care whether you're enjoying your meal. Honestly, everything we've tried has been good, hence us coming back the very next night! And DO NOT skip dessert. Get the gulab jamun with rose ice cream. It's the perfect way to end the meal on a sweet note -- pun absolutely intended. Two nights in a row and I'd still come back tomorrow.

New halal spots pique my curiosity, unlike the average restaurant. It's almost impossible for them…read moreto be both overpriced and bad. At worst, it is one of the two (with exceptions). This establishment seems to be Egyptian owned, as the walls claim that Egyptians created bread, cupcakes and falafel. The service was fine, though the tables could have been cleaner. I appreciate that they allow you to substitute some of the rice portion for lettuce/spring mix although the spring mix was wet. They also offered both spicy and regular options for rice and chicken. I got spicy rice with spicy chicken, and for my toppings I got Mediterranean salad, hummus, and tzaziki. I didn't realize you could also get white sauce, green sauce, etc, so I probably wouldn't get tzaziki and get olives or something else next time. The chicken and rice combo was a bit overly spicy for me and upset my stomach slightly. I'd probably get regular for both the next time. I also got tiramisu which they recommended over all the other "cupcakes" which they claim (via the wall) is Egyptian. The tiramisu was surprisingly good. There was soft music that seems Arabic-speaking. They have fountain drinks as well as bottled beverages. They also include a service charge - it was like $0.42 for me. I don't regret stopping by, but I wish my stomach was more settled. I just came from a restorative yoga class and I was thoroughly at peace.
