Brought here by a friend and her boyfriend to celebrate my bday as I wanted to go buffett for some crab legs! He works at pearl harbor. This place was pretty nice with a good, relaxed atmosphere. The price is so reasonable here! The food presentation was neat and clean. Selection I'd say was good for the price. They had soups, make your own salad, shrimp cocktail, oysters, and some potato mac salad and broccoli salad with crab. I liked those. They had prime rib with a yummy creamy horseradish sauce and snow crab legs with melted butter that was yummy as well. Snow crabs were real skinny but was able to get meat out of them. Butter tasted creamy with a hint of lemon. Other entrees to choose from were potato augratin, some assorted stir fry vegetables, lamb, rice, teriyaki salmon, orzo pasta, spicy sausage stir fry, crispy panko fried fish I think. We sat in the area with ocean view, still covered and it was pretty. Service was good.always refilled out water and drinks. I tried their sangria and it was pretty good. Desserts were minimal but I had the bread pudding, mango cheesecake,assorted fruits and a mango/lychee haupia looking one. My fav was the mango cheesecake. They had a couple other ones that were a fruit tart or had some kind of pastry that's common to see but I already knew what they would taste like so didn't bother trying it. They also had a station for ice cream I think they only served two different flavors that time. Parking is across the street so that's a little humbug to walk far and their wasn't valet. Restaurant validates your parking. I would like to go again if someone invited me as the price is right and the food was pretty good. I have them a four star just because I didn't care for I'd say half of the main dishes they were serving that night. Not sure if they switch it up. One of the best deals in the military, if not one of its worst kept secrets. The property that the hotels sits on is hard to beat - quick access to the beautiful beach and unobstructed views of the ocean (and fireworks!)... lush and tropical. Nice all-around. The rooms aren't the most flashy, but they are quite nice and have stunning views (if you reserve the right one). Prices are competitive and the conveniences - including an exchange shopette - are top-notch. We've returned here year after year and even used this as our wedding hotel a couple years ago. Need a ticket to eat here during Sunday brunch. Not bad for a buffet. First off when you enter is their dessert section. Their creme brûlée was very good. They have a seafood section which include fresh fish, poke, crab legs, shrimp. What I like is their sushi section, I love their hand made maki rolls. It was so good. They had basic breakfast entrees and some lunch, but one of the best things was an omelette section, but I didn't get that because the line was too long. I was afraid that there weren't going to be enough seats, but since you need a ticket the brunch seating is controlled. It costs $42/head but I feel that's a bargain compared to other hotels. Our buffet came with one complimentary drink/champagne/or mimosa. We also had waiting service. Our waiter for our section was very attentive. A friend was visiting from out of town and invited my favorite plus one and I to brunch at the Hale Koa. He's retired military and was able to sponsor us. He bought our tickets and we made plans to arrive at 9:30 for a 10:00 am reservation. FPO and I parked in the structure across the street from the hotel. It's easy but expensive. For two hours it cost $9.00 and that was with my friend's military ID. (Handy tip - when you pull your parking ticket don't carry it near your phone. It'll demagnetize, then you have to go to the parking garage office to pay rather than taking care of it at the front desk.) Anyway, FPO and I parked and walked across to the hotel. Meeting up with my friend we went in search of brunch. It was then we learned apparently, there are two "brunches" at the hotel. We found the second one by accident after we got lost. The one we went to is located in the Banyan Tree Showroom. Our tickets/reservations were bought ahead of time which was a good thing. It took about half an hour of "recon" to find the Banyan Tree Showroom. We asked two different people before lucking out and finding one of the hotel managers. On the main level, you head towards the beach; on the (really) left side of the walkway there is a bank of elevators and you go past those, down a hall (over the river and through the woods), before arriving at your destination. I don't go to buffets in general so walking into this one was a bit overwhelming. There were about twenty tables with foods from traditional eggs, meat and potatoes to sushi and sashimi; there was a prime rib carving station, a pancake station, options for continental breakfasts, fresh fruit, drinks, seafood including crab legs, shrimp, and mussels, desserts ... it went on and on and on. They also had live music which was entertaining. They played local music, a few pop covers, kiddie songs for a group of toddler groupies who made up their own dance floor in the middle of the front walkway. Wait staff are assigned to various sections to help direct and clean off tales as the gluttony progresses. Our waitress was named Carmen and she was great. She was attentive and funny. She also went out of her way to service her tables. My friend had a bit of a cold and asked for honey to go with his tea. We were surprised to learn that the buffet doesn't have honey. We were even more surprised when Carmen returned with a small dish of honey roughly the equivalent of half of one of those bears you buy in the supermarket. She went to the second buffet and brought it back. The food at the Hale Koa brunch was okay. I mean, it was good and I found some things that I really liked (interpret crème brulee tart) but overall it wasn't anything special. It was the service that really stood out. On our way out my friend asked about how to tip and was told by one of the employees that they don't accept tips. I don't know if this is true or not. To be right on the beach on Waikiki for around $200/night is unheard of. But thanks to being a military service member, my family and I can come here and enjoy the amenities of a full resort at a fraction of the price of other beachfront resorts. You pay for the level of room (garden view, partial ocean view, full ocean view, ocean front, etc) and your rate is dependent on what your rank is. The higher rank, the more you pay. Which if you think about it makes sense that you would charge less for those who don't make as much as you if you're higher rank. The rooms are pretty standard with amenities, mini fridge, television, lanai, etc. Depending on which room you get, the views can be breathtaking. They just renovated the main pool which is now very kid and adult friendly. They added in a kiddie splash area, water slides, and an adult only infinity pool. My kids can stay out here all day. The bar moved over to the grassy area nearby with a large seating area. You have several restaurants to choose from for your meals. There is plenty to choose from for even the pickiest of eaters (my youngest...). Next door is Koa beach rentals where you can rent umbrellas, chairs, water equipment. They also have their own luau twice a week. There is so much to do here at the Hale Koa that you can pretty much stay right here. But we also like to explore so we got a rental car and visited other parts of the island. They have a parking garage across the street. My experience at the Hale Koa was INCREDIBLE! Honestly, I had no clue what to expect from a resort owned by the DoD; I was just excited that this mind of place existed, making a trip to Hawaii possible for my military family. The resort was pristine; it was, by far, the nicest place I had ever stayed. The ocean view from our lanai was breathtaking. Everyone we meant was incredibly kind, friendly, and welcoming, the amenities exceeded expectations, and the cultural luau is an experience that I wouldn't trade for anything. I honestly have far more praises than I could ever fit in a single review, but here are a few of my top recommendations for anyone planning to stay at the Hale Koa in the future. 1.) Splurge on the ocean view (if this is financially doable for you). Hawaii is beautiful, and waking up to the salty air, beautiful beaches, and the sound of waves is worth the upgrade. 2.) Go to the cultural luau. Many people go to the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center, and while I cannot speak to that one, I can tell you how much my family and I loved the one at the Hale Koa. The food was incredible, the show was amazing, and we learned so much about Polynesian culture and dance. They also take time to pay tribute to military members, birthdays, and married couples. Remember that this is an event that you need to purchase tickets for-- seating is limited, and I recommend you buy them well in advance! 3. Get a Lomi Lomi massage at Heaven on Earth, Hale Koa's spa. Pro tip- call in advance to schedule your massage for the morning of your first full day (as in the day AFTER you arrive). Chances are you spent a lot of time on an airplane the day before, and when you wake up the following morning, you are going to feel it. Starting the day with a traditional Hawaiin massage is not only something kind you can do for your body (and your mind), but it's also an incredible experience that you probably won't find back at home. 4. The Hale Koa's beaches are amazing. Renting an umbrella is worth it. Bringing macadamia nuts to snack on is highly recommended. 5. Get out and experience as much as you can; Oahu is incredible, and know that the Hale Koa is not just a hotel; it's part of the Hawaiian experience. read more

We recently stayed at Hale Koa for 10 days. We were a party of 19 and let me tell you, this is the best hotel we've stayed at in Hawaii. Most importantly, the staff were friendly. We love our housekeeper Vanessa. She always greeted us with a good morning! Love how clean and convenient the hotel was to the beach, the shoppette onsite, luau place and just all the amenities. Parking is in the structure across from Hale Koa Hotel. $3 for 6 hours with validation. They don't take reservations but they were able to accommodate our party of 11. We went for Seafood Thursday and I was bummed because they didn't have any sushi! It's an open-air meaning it can get kinda warm (it was summer time!). The crime brûlée dessert was amazing!!! Loved everything about our luau experience! It's catered to military so it gives a shoutout to all types in service, retired, MIA, etc and its seems so genuine. I loved the fact that the pricing of seating was similar so no matter if you were front or back you had a decent price (compare that to the REALLLLY expensive ones on the island). We got there a lil later than i wanted so i missed out on a little of the crafts like lei making and love coconut tree climbers but got to get a free adult beverage and made a crown from coconut leaves! The people who help you with the crafts were the Storyteller/entertainers as well so it's great to see them interact before the show! I was struggling to make mine and said how ugly mine was and the kind guy told me "it's beautiful it's just done in your own way." The food was bomb but that's not why you really wanna come to the luau ya know? The show was amazing, comedic, and meaningful for natives, military, and kids who just want something neat. They had an 11 year old twirling and throwing fire- what a way to end the night. 10/10 read more

We enjoyed our stay here and this was a really great value while staying in Hawaii for 10 days. The lobby/check-in area was outside, but was covered from the elements, and very pretty. The rooms could stand to be freshened up with a little paint, but overall, they were pretty nice. The restaurants didn't have the most friendly servers with exception to one female server we had. The food was okay to good, but not great. They seemed to be short staffed. I would suggest going out to the local places to eat. The food is much better elsewhere and the people are more friendly. The AAFES store/shoppette was a life saver. We were there almost daily getting supplies for cocktails for in our room, snacks, souvenirs, bottled water, and much more. We really enjoyed the Hale Koa's beach bar. Drinks were much cheaper here than any where else and tasted great! The Hale Koa is in great proximity to the Waikiki Beach, and walking along the side walk to Hilton Island Village was a short walk that had lots of shops. Also, a short walk in the opposite direction into downtown Waikiki for more shopping and plenty of restaurants. read more

Koko at Kalia is a large buffet restaurant inside the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki. It has a fantastic selection of local and typical American fare at very affordable prices. Inside the main entrance, go right to the end of the hall and you'll find the entrance on the left opposite Warriors bar. The host stand is outside the door, where they'll seat you. One member of your party must have a military ID to eat here, so be sure to bring one along! Reservations are only accepted for large parties, otherwise just show up. The restaurant itself is a beautiful large room overlooking the small courtyard of the hotel and DeRussy Beach Park beyond. At dinnertime, you'll be afforded a picturesque sunset especially if sitting on the lanai. It's cozy and nice; colors are subdued with lots of wood giving the feel of calm Hawaii. Despite being a buffet, you will have waiter service for water, included iced tea and coffee, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. After you're greeted, simply go get a plate and start dishing all the delectable dishes. They're open twice a day for both breakfast from 6:30am to 11am then for dinner from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. For those people trying to eat all you can, it's better to arrive early! Be sure to check their website for which dishes are being offered on which days. Everyday for dinner they offer Alaska king crab legs, which are one of the best things offered, and slices of prime rib. The other main dishes rotate. There are lots of options of starches, salads, poke, keiki items, desserts, and soups. It'd be hard to go hungry here and is a great option for picky kids and parties that just can't decide on a single location. Be sure to check out the ice cream bar! Breakfast prices are $17 for adults, $8 for keiki, and $14 for active duty and seniors. For dinner adults are $30, keiki $10, active military & seniors $27; this is a great deal! For anyone permitted to eat here, it's worth your time to give it a try! If you ever get the privilege (and it is a privilege) of staying at this military hotel for active duty/family or retired officers) I highly recommend it. Not because it's the swankiest 5 star hotel, but because it is THE BEST piece of real estate on Waikiki Beach. Even the high end resorts can't compete with this property location and it's views. We've been to 5 star resorts in Tahiti, Europe and other parts of the world but Hale Koa is special. It has a great beach on Waikiki and even with humbly decorated rooms with less amenities, their rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The actual hotel balconies (especially on the top floors in the largest rooms) give breathtaking views that wrap around the building. The prices are so cheap for even the most expensive room it will blow your mind. Any other hotel on Waikiki would charge 1,000 times more for this same kind of room. The people who work here are really nice and there is no tax on the property (PX). The restaurants are great and grounds are lovely. My dad (a retired Air Force Col) absolutely loves this hotel and comes here every year during the holiday season. We spent a week with my parents here right before the pandemic and really enjoyed it. Lots to see on Oahu and many beautiful parts of the island to visit. Great shopping in Waikiki and amazing places to eat everywhere, in addition to the hotel. We need a room for the weekend since our place was being fumigated. Check in was easy, the only minor hiccup was when we went to our room. We requested two queen beds, there was only 1 queen and what looked like a sofa/hideaway bed. Went back down to the front desk and it was a easy solution to change our room. One thing I want to point out is the housekeeping staff. There was a bunch of them on the floor the next morning, as I was walking to the elevator, each one wished me a good morning. You can tell phony hello's but that WASN'T the case. They were generally warm and friendly with their good morning's. I felt the aloha from each and one of them. I live here in Hawai'i and don't stay in Waikiki often but this would be my go to places if I need a place to stay. read more

Yes! I guess you can call me greedy when it comes to crab legs!!! I can eat lots and lots and lots of them and never seem to fill up this belly when eating them!! I never care for buffets but for crab legs i always have to go to one otherwise my bill would be $100+ and after seeking many all you can eat i think i found the best spot! I recently stayed at the Hale Koa Hotel to check out the new Aquatics complex. I was very pleased with my stay and look forward to staying again. Highlights include: 1. The new aquatics complex is amazing. It's split into 5 sections which include a baby pool (0-5) a children's splash area (5 -12) the main pool ( all ages) and an adult infinity pool (18+). There are also two slides which have yet to open and should be fantastic. 2. Warriors Lounge - this is a happy hour lounge. Happy hour is from 5 to 6:30pm. They have a small food menu of 10 items and it's open 7 days a week. Last food and drink orders go in at 7:45pm because they close at 8:00pm. On certain nights they have shows in the lounge and you must be a ticket holder to remain in the bar after 8:00pm. 3. Koko by Kalia Breakfast buffet!! This is a great breakfast buffet under $20 which opens at 6:30am. The food is wonderful, the price is fair and I loved the omelette station. You must be military or a hotel guest to dine at this buffet. 4. I was pleasantly surprised by my room!! Although I was only on the 4th floor I had the loveliest view. All menu's for different outlets were provided as well as a hotel itinerary for all shows and events. I absolutely loved it. The only issue I had was a disconnect between the front desk and the lifeguards. I was told upon check in by kaleolama that once we check out we are allowed to use the facilities all day ( check out is 11:00am) because check out is early I planned to return to the pool for the remainder of the day until it was time to leave the property. The lifeguard (Cliff) took issue with this??? He came across as rude and when I checked out, I once again confirmed with front desk and they again said I could use the pool for the rest of the day. He upset my little boy because he thought he couldn't come back in, I was confused because I checked twice with front desk. In the end it all worked out but I think everyone needs to be on the same page regarding the new pools policies. The area is nice and close to the beach. But giving a 1 star review, because most of the employees are rude. The security and the manager were the worst. We needed help getting back into our room and asked for help to get in. When we explained why we couldn't get in, they blatantly talked bad about us in front of us. Like saying, who does that? But this place makes misses the mark for a couple of reasons one they don't do housekeeping every day?? Not even checking to see if you need your trash taken out or tell switch it out. When I called down there the lady said they do it every six days so you mean to tell me you expect me to use the same towels every six days?? I also do not understand why there is no valet. I hate to Sound like a princess but when you have a parking garage that is across the street it would be good to perhaps have the $20 valet parking this is good for you and for me. This is for those people that did not do their homework, showed up to eat and were turned away for not being a military affiliate in some way, getting mad, then giving the buffet a 1 star and griping that the place sucks: Get a friggan' grip! We have lived in poverty and filth in foreign countries, spent years away from our loved ones, dealt with problems that many cannot even talk about to this day. The cafe is right on the beach. Typical outdoor eating setup but with a gorgeous beach view. The food and drinks are good, they offer Military discount on both. On Friday nights there is fireworks on the beach and the have live music. The musicians they have are superb, if you like to dance Friday night is your night. Hale Koa is a military hotel. You either need a military ID or get sponsored by someone who has a military ID to use this place. The rates are a little cheaper compared to other hotels and they don't charge tax. The hotel is huge, beautiful, and on the beach front. I've been here a few times for weddings, receptions, and their Sunday brunch. They have big ballrooms that can host any event that you want. The kitchen puts out delicious food. I was there for a week. The hotel is amazing. The tree in center is beautiful. Public but direct beachside access. Luau on site for a reservation and fee. Magic shows too for reservation and fee. The lobby is beautiful. Two great pools , with one being adult near a bar/ restaurant and another for family with water slides near bar and snacks. There's dining restaurant, breakfast buffet area on s balcony, and prime rib all I can eat dinners, plus a low cost cafeteria style restaurant with tray service. There's an exchanges. Rooms are mostly 2 beds. Most rooms have balcony's. The stuff are amazing. Kyuga and Sonja and Anna went out of their way to make our stay special. I stopped in at the Barefoot Bar next to their lu'au grounds. It's such a cool spot to relax outdoors with great music by Na Hoku Hanohano nominated musician, Ka'imi. They don't have food service there but rather you walk next door to their to-go cafe, purchase items you like, then return to your table. It's all very chill. The only thing I wish is that their parking lot wasn't so far away. It can be a long walk if you have any type of disability. read more

You have to go to the very corner of the Balcony to see the Ocean View and it's more like a partial view. I called and asked and they just told me you can see the ocean when you walk to the balcony but it's only a Partial view. Don't waste your money just get a Partial view instead or else the Ocean Front if you really want to see the ocean. I had to call to have them do my sheets and change my towels etc. Don't expect them to do it. No microwave as well it's in the washer dryer room to share with everyone. It's so funny that I've been to the Hale Koa Hotel many times for weddings, and a few 1 year old birthday parties, but never have I had the chance to dine at the Koko at Kalia restaurant until today. To eat here, you must be either active, or retired military, and lucky for us, my dad's friend is retired from the DoD and has privileges so that's how I ended up here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The Hale Koa Hotel has gone over a few renovations in recent years, and it's easy to get confused or lost coming here (especially if you don't come here on a regular basis). The Koko at Kalia restaurant is located on the lobby floor level, kinda towards the back of the hotel, facing the ocean side. The Breakfast Buffet here is pretty good......as they had an array of breakfast food items like - 1. Local Style Fried Rice & White Rice. 2. Upcountry Roast Sweet Potatoes. 3. Skillet Griddled Hashbrown Potatoes. 4. Scrambled Eggs. 5. Oven Roasted Vegetables with Balsamic Vinegar. 6. Warrior Creamed Beef with Mini Biscuits. 7. Bacon, Sausage Patties, Turkey Link Sausage. 8. Warm Bread Pudding. 9. Island Fish Benedict (Seared Mahi Mahi + Poached Egg, Hollandaise Sauce, Toasted English Muffin. 10. Omelettes Made to Order. This is my families third time staying at this hotel. Every time we've had a great experience. You have multiple food options here and the service has been wonderful. Due to covid, the pool now goes by a reservation system to limit the amount of people in at a time. The beach isn't private but tends to be less crowded than other parts of the beach from what I've noticed. There's a parking garage right across the street as well so there is never any stress of finding a parking space. read more

I came here recently to a wedding venue. This hotel is so beautiful! PARKING: Located next door to the Hale Koa Hotel. It's a three or four story parking structure that you can validate your ticket and pay $7 for parking. FOOD: This wedding Venue offered Hawaiian food, prime rib, crab legs, noodles, etc. there was a variety of different types of food. Let me tell you, the food was amazing. Great resort! Loved staying here. The pool and beach and drinks were all great. The buffet food was solid as well. The kids loved the splash pad and easy access to the beach. What a perk of being a veteran! Booked a sweet Black Friday deal of buy 4 get 1 free for a great 10 nights end of May to early June. Hawaii has taken great care to keep the island safe and we were happy to oblige in the requirements to finally have a vacay. Wish the circle drive had an attendant to move traffic forward to keep it from getting stacked at checkin. The lobby is a great place to sit and enjoy and grab a table to eat at. Staff at the desk were great and working hard. The beds are comfy. Nice partial ocean view. Wish the patio wasn't so squished but it's better than no view. Room service was yummy. Easy to make reservations for the pool. Be careful of the step into the pool, it's a little steep. Cabana was great for getting longer pool time. If the beach is your jam check out the link on HK's site for Dive Oahu. The housekeeper was awesome. Thank you Marita for taking good care of our family! Quick service was a plus for grabbing food at the pool. Dinner was nice and fairly easy to get into. The Exchange was awesome. If you like Tori Richard Hawaiian shirts then you're in luck there! The Starbucks is their negative...supppper busy. We gave up, walked 10 minutes to Dean & Deluca and got coffee and pastries. We had an evening flight and they held our bags at the bell desk at check out. NICE! If you want food delivered use Grubhub. DoorDash was a nightmare with a two hour wait. Hale Koa was definitely the best pick for us - location, value, comfort. Would go again...wish it could be sooner rather than later. read more

Attended Sunday Brunch; we got seated right away. Our seating was on the outside lanai. There was a breeze but it did get a little hot. We did have a big party and it looked like they sit the larger parties outside. There was live music but you can hear or view it from outside. Outside is not a bad deal but inside would provide the most comfort. The food was actually pretty good for the price. A great assortment of breakfast items along with a carving station of smoked ham and prime rib. Action stations also includes a sushi bar and omlet station. If your from the islands you can find your local favorites such as poi, poke and sashimi also. The fish was fresh and I really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the sushi from the sushi bar where they can make you hand rolls to order. Snow crab was avaible however it's served on ice; not hot or steamed. The best part they give you a complementary to ticket for a mimosa. If you plan on having more just buy the bottle of champagne it's only $15! The juice is self serve. We had a ball! Everything was organized so well! It's probably the most put together Luau we have been to and believe me we've been to way too many. We really didn't want to go to a Luau but my parents really wanted to go like it's some sort of tradition . There were many activities like making lei haku and orchid bracelets. Where else can you dine at a buffet that has crab legs AND prime rib for UNDER $30? No where else except here at Koko at Kalia at the Hale Koa Hotel! First of all, if you're not familiar with this hotel, you can easily get lost trying to find the restaurant. It's on the lobby level where the registration area is, and as you're facing the ocean, head to the right towards the water and it's at the very end past the banquet rooms. This restaurant is quite large with a lot of seating and a great view. It doesn't get crazy crowded like at other buffets, so you don't have to stand in line at all of the stations like at other buffets. Some of the food items you'll find on the dinner buffet line are: two different soups (the chowder is ONO!), salad, baked potato, cake noodles, rice, chicken, deep fried breaded fish, crab legs, prime rib, dinner rolls, and assorted desserts. The only thing this buffet doesn't have is sushi or sashimi. But that's ok because you can easily eat your money's worth by focusing on the crab legs and prime rib (which is really good). And in fact, on two occasions, I've seen tables where the people only eat the crab legs! If you have the military credentials to dine here, I highly recommend this place for a nice leisurely buffet style dining experience in Waikiki. Don't forget to bring your parking ticket to the restaurant so that they can validate it for you for a discounted parking rate. read more
