The food was good, however they gave my wife the wrong sushi roll and it made her sick as she has allergies. So over all I would give this location a 3 star. Now this past December my boss brought myself and several other coworkers to have dinner in the Gulfport location and I would give that location a 5 star. read more

One of the best meals I've had over the past several years, and since I eat out multiple times a week, that says a lot. Started off with an off-the-menu item: sautéed crab claws with "Orleans" sauce, which were spicy and delicious. Next we had the oyster sampler, and all of the varieties were extremely tasty. For my meal I had the surf and turf, with sides of asparagus w/ gorgonzola cream and sweet potato creme brûlée. Everything was excellent. My wife had a stuffed grouper special and raved about it. BUT, we mentioned it to the hostess who got the manager to come talk to us and he was so apologetic and so great about the whole thing that I have to give it a good review. Not only did he apologize for the situation, he explained what happened (mix up in the kitchen), and comped our entire meal! My wife and I went to eat there and when we entered the half shell restaurant we were greeted by a very unfriendly hostess. She was about 5,4 foot tall with dark hair she was with another older blond lady who seemed to be friendly. The dark hair lady saw me walking with a cane and she put my wife and I by the stairs on a small table. I saw they had two other 4 seat tables which were empty. We sat down at the tiny table and waited but no server came to offer us any drinks and I had hardly any space for my arm and leg pressed against the wall. I had to put my cane on my lap. After 5 mins I saw the same hostess sit a couple on one of the bigger tables who looked to me like they were not disabled. I got up and stated to my wife lets go to talk to the hostess who sat us down and see if she would sit us down on one of the 4 seat tables. I asked her how come she didn't sit us at a bigger table she in an angry and rude voice told me why are you complaining now. She also told me in a loud rude voice you should have told me when I sat you down. I stated to her I was not able to tell you because you sat us down and just walked off. I stated to her I am not going to argue with you, you are very rude and I am leaving, so shut up and we left. I would give this place for the way they acted a zero if I could. I don't she likes disabled Veterans. This place was recommend by a friend of mine after I told him about the bad experience we had he told me I am sorry I won't recommend them ever again to anyone else. Best meal I've had in Biloxi to date! We stopped in on a Thursday night & they were packed! How ever, we were able to sit at the bar right away. We had the oyster sampler & fried green tomatoes to start & then the royal reds as our meal. The oysters were very good & I'm very judgy of oysters not made in south Louisiana. I live just a short boat ride from the oyster reefs so it's hard to beat! But they were wonderful. I didn't try any raw because I was raised to not eat raw oysters in the summer, but I will return in the winter! The royal reds were delicious & well seasoned. I know these are only local to Alabama but they tasted fresh & delicious. The timing of the food was the only thing could have been better - everything came out very quickly, but I understand restaurants are encouraging the whole "sit & stay while" atmosphere these days. After reading the numerous reviews on Yelp, I wanted to try the Half Shell Oyster House for myself. Situated in the middle of downtown Biloxi, the Half Shelf Oyster House just looked cool from the street - very nice curbside appeal. Upon entering, the staff was very friendly, asking me if I would like to sit upstairs on downstairs. Wanting to see the city from the second floor, I chose to sit at the upstairs bartop (they have one on the main floor as well). The bartender was very nice and allowed me to sample a few of the local beers. After trying the Abita Amber and the Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan ales, I went with the Pecan as it had a very nice flavor, with a sweet, yet subtle, aftertaste. For the main course, I once again went with the bartender's recommendation and ordered the Redfish Orleans, a blackened redfish topped with Gulf shrimp and sautéed in the original New Orleans-smoky Cajun sauce. Garnished with jumbo crabmeat and parmesan cheese, I found it absolutely delectable and worth every penny of the $26 I paid. I have no idea how this place has such positive reviews. The only positives were the sweet tea and the friendly waitress. The gumbo got a 5/10, it definitely lacked flavor. The oyster sampler was terrible, definitely the worst oysters that we've had on the gulf coast. It took 45 minutes for us to get the cups of gumbo and oysters. For entrees (which took another 30 minutes to arrive) I ordered the shrimp pasta. It was OK just lacked flavor and only came with 5 shrimp in a huge bowl of pasta. My wife ordered the fried catfish. She ate a couple bites and didn't finish it. The fish was incredibly salty and the mashed potatoes were clearly microwaved since the outside was very hot and the middle cold. My wife has the seafood pot pie which was ok, nothing to write about. I had the special of the night which was a grilled Parrotfish with citrus slaw. The fish had good taste and was very flaky and the pineapple based salsa balanced out the dish. We both also had the sweet potato creams brûlée side dish. The bill came out & we were charged $15 for the glass of whiskey, no problem. On the way out we stopped by the bar to see what other bourbons/whiskeys they had. There was no Eagle Rare behind the bar. We told the bartender we just had a glass of Eagle Rare and he said no you didnt we are out of it.
