I think this place is really a hidden treasure in Lafayette. Their oysters are delicious every way they prepare them, and the Redfish Orleans is a perfect dish every time. The service is always excellent, and I like the French Quarter decor. One of my favorite places. read more

It was just OK I had the red snapper Orleans it was awesome I also had the sweet potato brûlée mayne that was off the chain. I didn't like the gumbo that really was the only food item I didn't care for. The oysters were really good as well I had the sampler platter of the oysters. This is definitely one of those places that relies on service to make up for what their food lacks. My wife and I ordered takeout, so I understand my review is a bit skewed, but I will say that the people I talked to briefly were all very kind. Overall, I'd say the food is pretty average but definitely overpriced. We got the fried green tomatoes, crawfish cheesecake, seafood Alfredo, grilled catfish, with sides of gumbo, okra, loaded mashed potatoes, and hush puppies. Nothing we ordered was more than just decent, but we did end up throwing out the gumbo and cheesecake. I was especially disappointed about the crawfish cheesecake; it sounded like something that would be unique and tasty, but it was a huge miss. My wife's gumbo wasn't good either; she actually preferred the gumbo at one of the local hospitals that she is at, which says something. Our takeout order totaled right at $100, but I feel I could've easily found a better meal elsewhere for half the price. I wouldn't say I regret eating here, but I don't see myself coming back either. read more

This is one of my most favorite restaurants in Lafayette. The restaurant is always so clean and the service is very good. We ordered the dozen oysters And the shrimp which are personally my favorite. Unfortunately our server said it was his last night as he was pursuing school. However, he was amazing! He did not miss a step he ensured that our food delivered as it was supposed to our table. This restaurant was really nice! We we're definitely under dressed for this one haha didn't realize it was kinda fancy! They have outdoor seating which we tried to do but is was a windy day so we moved inside. We really just came for oysters and we weren't that hungry so we didn't get an entree. We got the oyster sampler, it was pretty good. We also got the smoked tuna appetizer and that was really good. So good I forgot to take a picture before we ate it. We also got grilled crab cakes and I got a side of grits. For desert we got the chocolate caramel cheesecake and it was soooo good. My husband and I were traveling and decided to stop here because he wanted oysters . He said they were fantastic. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes with crab cakes,we both had the fried shrimp dinner , also ordered the sweet potato creme brulee. Our exercise group has dined at Half Shell for lunch a number of times over the last years. We have always found the food to be good and the servers very attentive. The decor of the dining room is unique and a "nod" to its name. I'd recommend it to seafood lovers. read more

Came here to celebrate with the family, and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Our server was great and the atmosphere was enjoyable. The oysters of course are the star of the show. We got the sampler, and I enjoyed each flavor very much. The tuna stack is also delicious - but a smidge too much avocado for me. I wish it had more tuna. The redfish entree was so delicious, I shared this dish but wish I had ordered it on my own, it was that good. We tried the seafood pot pie as well and I was highly disappointed. This is why I give 4 stars and not a perfect 5. The pot pie was very misleading. It's served in a dish, but it's not a true pie. It's the seafood with a pasty sheet baked on top of the dish. No cohesiveness at all - nor a true pie! Seems obvious they did this to cut on time, but if you're charging that much and calling it a pot pie, it better be an actual pie! The bread pudding was not the way I typically like it, but others at the table did. I'd come back again for the oysters and the redfish. read more

Was in town visiting family. This is my sister and brother in law's favorite place. The greeters at the door weee nice and friendly and set the tone for the rest of the experience. The food was quite tasty. The ribeye steak voodoo chicken the gumbo were all amazing. The hush puppies were a bit dry. Perhaps a dipping sauce of some sort would have made it more palatable. We had the following: - Oyster Sampler - Combination of three Charbroiled Oysters, three Oyster Bienville, three Oysters Rockefeller and three Oysters Orleans - overall they were all pretty decent, the one that stood out the most to us were the charbroiled - Oysters on the Half Shell - Gulf oysters freshly shucked in-house - fresh, but small - Fried Green Tomatoes & Crab Cakes - Fried green tomatoes layered with blue crab cakes. Served over lemon aioli and topped with crab ravigotte - perfectly fried, love the toppings with the crab cakes - Crab and Lobster Dip - A delightful combination of lobster, lump crabmeat and cheese. Topped with a Parmesan, herb and panko crust. Served with toasted French bread - all I tasted was cheese and panko.. Barely any crab or lobster meat - Voodoo Wings - Fresh all white meat boneless wings, fried golden and tossed in our unique sweet and spicy Voodoo sauce - the sauce was okay, nothing extraordinary, but edible - Cheeseburger w/bacon - Seasoned and charbroiled, with choice of American, Swiss or Provolone cheese. I had one good experience here and when my husband and I went again the oysters we ordered were the smallest I've ever seen. The waiter was very rude and the manager seemed like she had a hard time managing the situation we found ourselves in. I found this place to have inconsistent food and service. I fully believe the manager could have handled things better. I do not want to return here and go through the terrible service we experience during our last visit. read more
