Half shell is a great addition to Pelham! The fish and oysters are great. Everything is great from the service/food/environment.

So it's about our 4th trip to this location and have been to several around town and in MS and LA. Decided to sit at bar tonight --- maybe not best idea- it took 15 mins in an un-busy situation like we were the only ones at bar at 8:30, to get a drink order . Then placed dinner order at same opportunity in the interest of expediency. Took another 30 mins to get raw oysters that arrived with one tiny cocktail and no lemon. Had to ask twice about our entrees. Bartender disappeared for 10 mins. So we finally left at 9:45 after having 2 bartenders' shifts and an hour and half at the bar. We ordered 12 raw oysters, an oyster PoBoy and a bowl of Gumbo between the two of us- ridiculous! Okay so today was my 17th birthday and this place made it 100x better! (My server was the best part!) Elana toke wonderful care of me and my family and gave us a run down of everything we needed to know! She even asked if we've been there before and her response was amazing, she was extremely helpful and patient! What more could you ask for. Well I can tell you. We started out with the crab claws for an app (the special app of the day) 10/10! The yellow fin was to die for, perfectly rare as well. (Whoever cooked it knows how to handle fish that's for sure!) my oysters were to die for as well and will be getting again, grilled to perfection. The red fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sea food pot pie is like no other I've ever tried (first time liking a pot pie may I add) she served us desert (blueberry cheese cake, if they don't have it you came on the wrong day) overall it was terrific and I will be going more often, pricey but some of the best seafood I've had. This is a great restaurant! Only issues were our server was not that great. Took a while to get our drinks, asked for straws and never got them, nit once did he offer any refills and when we asked he just brought the check while we were still eating and no refill for our drinks. The food was amazing but I think they should rinse their oysters, I bit into several large chunks of shell pieces and could've sworn I chipped a few teeth. Maybe we went on an iffy night but we will definitely be back because despite the issues it's a great place! read more

Heather was the worst manager ever. We could not eat the Yellow fin tuna because you couldn't slice it. Heather the manager took $5 off of a Tuna steak that was $27. When we questioned it, she acted like it was an act of Congress to get a discount. I would never spend $70 at this place ever again. read more

I have eaten at multiple Half Shell locations and this one is by far the worst. Two people at our table got the snapper and it was not edible so it was sent back. No one asked if we wanted anything else. Another person at the table got the seafood pasta and all the seafood looked and tasted like it was previously frozen. Had a great early dinner with my date. Enjoyed the fried green tomato and crab cake appetizer followed by the bacon and pecan crusted redfish. My my my. No room for dessert. The waiting patio was pretty empty, empty tables inside but we were told an hour to 45 min wait. After waiting 21 minutes and watching big groups just walk in we were told it would be another 45 minutes and probably longer...staff seemingly unconcerned. After eating at this new Pelham location over half-a-dozen times since it opened in July, I really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service. But our last visit was horrible. The waiter brought us our drink orders (two waters) along with the next tables drinks (a glass of wine and a bottle of beer). The waiter accidentally spilled the entire glass of wine and beer upon my wife - drenched her entire left side - shirt, paints and even got in her hair. It was an accident and he apologized, but I would have expected a visit from a manager offering to do something about the damaged cause - we do not drink alcohol and now wife wife smelled like a brewery- not a single manager came by to speak with us about the incident- most disappointing is I wrote an email to their customers service website with no follow up response - really disappointing the way this was handled- loved the food and location, but I will not be patronizing this establishment in the future- this type of customer service is not acceptable for our dining dollars. read more

I went for my birthday dinner and I loved the entire dining experience. Though there was a wait, we were seated swiftly. Our server was pleasant and efficient. The food is to die for. I ordered Bienville oysters and had the fried shrimp, okra, and sweet potato crème brûlée as my meal. The drinks were perfectly made which is dangerous because I forgot about the alcohol in it lol I had the strawberry basil mojito and a blue Long Island iced tea (not sure what the actual name is). CELEBRATING MY Birthday 11/5/2022 I called Half shell oyster house Pelham on 11/2/2022 around 4 pm inquiring about having my birthday dinner here 11/5/2022 around 6:00 or 6:30pm. I spoke to Hanna I said I need seating for about 10-13 people for 6:00 pm or 6:30 pm She stated we do not do reservations but when you show up we will fine . She said I suggest you showing up around 5:30 to get seated . I said ok I will get there before my guest to get seated so o can set up . I Asked her "was it ok to bring my own balloons and cake ?" She stated yes. I called as a follow up so they would be prepared for us to come on Saturday 1 pm to speak to Hanna , Drake said she was off but how can be help. I said to him o spoke with Hanna Earlier this week , I'm coming to have my birthday dinner there today for 6:00 pm , Hanna said I can bring my own cake and balloons and I will arrive around 5:00 pm to get seated before my guest before 6:00 pm he said we do not take reservations but you will fine . I said I understand I just want to make sure you all are prepared for us to come at this time . My friend arrive at 5:20 I said go inside tell them you are with the birthday party coming in at 6:00 pm . As on on the phone with her I'm on my way . I'm 11 minutes away. I said tell them they can go ahead and get the tables ready. She said ok . My friend called me right back and said the lady in the purple shirt said she can't seat us until at least 13 people are here. I said let her know we on the way so they can have tables ready . I there at 5:40 pm ( as I sat in the car updating guest about 8 min before heading in) I walked in proceeded to let them know I'm here she asked my name n number and how many I said 10 . We wait for about 15 she come over and say I lost your info on the system what your be , number and how many . I give it to her again . We are all sitting in front at the door it's 10 of us. Every person walked in was immediately seated . We saw tables that sat 12 seated with 2 people on serval occasions as we watched . Every 15 min (6:00) we asked how long they kept saying we waiting on someone to get up to make room . It's 6:30 pm I ask what are we waiting on everyone is here . The lady on the purple shirt say let me see. I ask is there anywhere we can sit. Anywhere at this point we don't have to sit together. She walk off saying let me check . It's 7:00 pm no one has come not once as we sit at the front door waiting . I go back over as we are literally 5 steps away and ask the ladies at the desk what's the hold up . She looks confused and like she doesn't know what to say . But say let me check it's should be forever () me it shouldn't be forever .I said it's 2 tables next to each other that seat 12 and 1 across the room also . She say said they working on it. As soon as I walk back by the seat waiting area . A couple come in 2 people. They sit them at the table . 7:10 pm I family come on of 6 they ask would you like high or low seat , the Man of the family said which one is ready and we don't have to wait , hostess said either. Walk them to the table . That was my last straw . My other friend before I could get up walked to them and expressed how I'm disbelief , overlooked , know one cared or came to update us at all. They stood there looking like ( Oh well, nonchalantly) No apologies , nothing. All the shirt guy that had on the pink shirt said was ok. It's 7:12pm we leave and go to another restaurant This restaurant seated us in 3 min in a private dining area with TV , had us drink in 5 and food In the next 15 min. I shave never eaten at half shell and will never go back ! I do not recommend!!!!!!! This was very poor service even with updates that we are coming they still care nothing about Serving us. This was our second attempt at trying out this place. Both times were the same experience. After calling us for our table they Informed us we would be sitting outside. We declined and said we would like to sit at a table inside. The hostess was irritated with that response and told us we would have to wait an additional 15 min. After we were seated we had to flag down the hostess to ask where our server was since we were sitting for 10 minutes without any greeting of any kind from anyone. She said she was going to find out without any apology whatsoever. Came back and told us she "changed our server and was giving us the best server they had" (we were sitting in her section so that was a lie.) Our server finally came over after waiting an additional 7 min and said she had just been switched to our table because we had been waiting a while (again no apology at all) By this time we are irritated and go ahead and order all of our food. Then the manager comes by and asks how our dinner is going. We tell her our experience so far and she has zero apology, no let me try and fix this, nothing. She says well I hope the rest of the experience is better. A simple apology goes a very long way and not once did we ever hear an I'm sorry. The only saving grace was the food. It was absolutely delicious. Too bad we will not be back. 2 visits, a year apart and the same exact terrible service. We will take our hard earned money elsewhere. read more

We have had dinner here twice. We loved the Smoked Tuna Dip. I had the Seafood Gumbo and it was good. My wife had the Caesar Salad and the lettuce was very wet. I had the Grilled Seafood Platter and the Shrimp and Grits. There are two items that are fried on the Seafood Platter and both were terrible as the oil was most likely overdue to be changed and both were very dark and burnt tasting. The grilled fish was overdone. The Shrimp and Crab Cake were both good. My wife had the Filet and Crab Cake and she said both were good. The service was very good. We had a party of 8 today and arrived around 12:15 for the Sunday brunch. After waiting about 10-15 minutes in an almost empty restaurant, we finally asked the hostess if our table is ready, to which she replied that she was getting it ready and then disappeared into the back. After several minutes, one of the men in our party, walked around the restaurant and found a table for 8 ready in the back so he called to us to come sit. After sitting there for several minutes, the hostess returned and told us "this was not our table and we needed to return to the hostess desk" to which one of the men said "no" so she said she would get the manager to which we replied "please do". Several minutes passed and no one came, so we all got up and went down the road to eat as it seemed they were not interested in our business. On our way out, we did not see the hostess nor the manager nor were there any new customers waiting to be seated. This was very disappointing to us and several from our party of 8 said they wouldn't return because of the way we were treated. At the time of our visit, there was one table of 6 and several booths with 2-4 people each. The table we tried to sit at was the only one that was set up for 8 people so we were surprised when the hostess said we couldn't sit there! read more

Your Yelp says you have outdoor dining. I went by this week for the first time and asked to be seated outside. The hostess told us they did not have outside seating. I asked why the tables were out there and she said those were for people to sit at while waiting on a table to become available. So do you have outdoor dining or not? If not, you should not advertise that you do. If you do, you need to let your hostesses know. I give you 4 stars because your menu looks good. We were specifically looking for outside dining that evening so went elsewhere. read more

Have eaten at the Half Shell in Tuscaloosa, AL and Biloxi, MS and really enjoyed our experience at both of these. Our first time at the Pelham location was very disappointing. We had a party of 8 people. Restaurant was mostly empty with the exception of 3 other parties. There was a party of 8 ahead of us and we were told that they only had one other place that would seat 8 and it was occupied. The only way we could get seated without waiting for 30 to 45 minutes was to sit at 2 separate tables. We were getting together with our grown and married children because we had not seen them in a while. We opted to go ahead and take the 2 separate tables. Well, long story short, food was okay, but not great. Our appetizers were brought out at the same time as our entrees. Although one of our appetizers did not show up until after we were finished eating. They did not charge us for it, which is good because it was not very good. It was their voodoo shrimp which is suppose to be like the bang bang shrimp from Bonefish grill, but it was not even close to being as good. I do not like to be negative, but when you spend over $300 for your food, service should be a lot better than what we received. read more

Food was okay, service was bad. The whole atmosphere seems a little too buttoned up for a place that's right by Beer Hog. Our server was odd and she continually stared at me and my husband while we were eating. Teenage wait staff were walking around talking really not doing much of anything but socializing while we had empty plates waiting to be picked up for more than 30 minutes. If you're going to have a buttoned up environment then your staff needs to be on par with that. Also, I ordered an alcoholic beverage and my server seemed uncomfortable serving to me. She mentioned several times that I " look young" and she didn't want to get in trouble, even though I showed her my ID twice. I am 25 years old and work a big girl job, I shouldn't be questioned and made to feel uncomfortable while ordering a cocktail with my meal. Won't be back, I would rather go to Cajun Steamers, or somewhere like that. They have a lot to work on here. read more
