One of my favourite fish & chip restaurants. I've been coming here for years and years. Fish, the halibut is cream of the crop but it'll set you back. Their batter is light. Fish is always fried to perfection. The cod has a special on Wednesdays, so it's really such a better deal. They have various other specials throughout the week. I prefer their poutine over most places. I have travelled all over Ontario and I still prefer theirs. Perhaps my opinion only, but their cheese curds melt creamy soft but still whole chunks (not squeaky cold chewy curds like how other places boast). They give you decent amounts of gravy because that's the only way poutine should be served. Tartar sauce. Used to be unlimited packages - some simple brand (I don't recall the name). Then some time later they made single packages shaped like the peanut butter sized small rectangular sized. Now they've swapped to another package similar to the first but not the same but they do limit how many you get - not unlimited but sufficient. Not a huge deal but tartar sauce is a must with fish and chips. Definitely a place worth checking out if you love fish and chips, the upgrade to poutine makes it 10/10.

My go to chain for fish and chips. They have Wednesday and Sunday specials starting at $12.99 which is a fair price. The fries were soft and not as crisp as I would like and the coleslaw is decent enough (for someone that typically dislikes coleslaw). But this is a fish and chip establishment and fish is the most important item to rate. Its served with a consistent crunch to the batter and although it comes apart easy when cut, the batter stays with the fish so you're not awkwardly poking around trying to put the pieces back together. There are probably more boujee places that serve dishes for $20+ but Halibut house doesn't miss.

Something fishy about this review... Large location with comfortable booth or table seating. Quick and friendly service, and lots of food options. They even have Grape Crush...I was in overly excited! We had the Halibut and chips, with coleslaw and it was fresh, crispy, and very delicious. Also tried the deep fried mushrooms with ranch sauce. We requested they exclude the Parmesan cheese. They were good but a little smaller size mushroom would have been nicer. This location is very clean, and so was the woman's washroom. I'm definitely going to this location from now on.

Hit the spot with this fish and chips spot! Been driving by this fish and chip spot and it's really sparked interest, so I decided to grab some take out here. It was an easy phone call to order ahead of time so that I can just walk in, pay, grab and go. Upon arriving, the place was pretty full with diners. It's not a fancy place, don't expect it to be but looks like a low key spot with amazing food. I got the haddock and chips and halibut and chips and both were great. It came with all the regular fixings you'd get in the restaurant like packs of vinegar, tartar sauce and ketchup. The fish pieces are large and crispy. Fries could be a bit crispier though and can spend some more time in the fryer. Pricing is about mid range pricing, nothing too expensive or cheap in my opinion. There's weekly specials and takeout specials as well that are pretty great if you want to try this place out.

Fish and chips | Breakfast| Franchise Great restaurant if you're craving for some nicely fried fish and chips. Also an amazing simple breakfast starting at $5. I especially appreciate their fried home fries. Fried to perfection and was crispy. Bottomless coffee to wake you up. Service was great and quick. Wifi available.

    Here for the Sunday special

Saw earlier reviews giving this place a 1 star, my honest opinion is 3.5 star. Don't know how they came up with that unfair rating!!!! I've eaten at this location on occasion for many years, yes the price has gone up with inflation, but look at the picture for the portion! It is the actual size of the Sunday special. I took the picture with a fork and salt shaker as reference. You be the judge! I personally don't think it's small, I'm a big eater, and I'm full from the serving. Value 4.5 stars. Food quality 3.5 star. The waitresses are by no means rude, but they're too busy to chit chat with you. Service 3 star. Decor is nothing special, just a family restaurant... 3 star Overall 3.5 star, round up to 4 due to the value.

This place doesn't disappoint when it comes to decent fish and chips at reasonable prices. They also serve a daily breakfast special starting at $3.95 (no meat) and $4.95 with the choice of meat (sausage, ham or bacon) from 9am to 2pm. Wednesday special is King Cod with chips for $12. Sunday and Monday special is Haddock with chips $11. Complimentary coffee refill. The service is friendly and quick. Ample parking in a small plaza. Restaurant isn't anything fancy - simple but clean.

This place is a solid go to for fish and chips. If you're having the craving on a Sunday/Monday they have a halibut and chips special for $9. On Wednesdays they have cod and chips for $10. Ordered take out here and really like how they pack up your order for you. Fish is fried nicely. Halibut and cod are both crispy on the outside and I believe the halibut has a bit more of a firm texted compared to the cod, which was soft and flakey. Their fries are good, but I wish they were a bit crispier. Overall great choice. They also serve a cheap standard breakfast if you're ever looking for that! Would recommend calling ahead just for convenience.

    Really bad tartar sauce

Starts with checking online menu - no pictures, no prices. Called server suggested lunch size $15 for 3 oz of fish and very little batter. See their picture of thw small square of fish - thats it. One dollar more is supposed to be proper size but who knows what that means. Cold fries somewhat better after nuked. No lemon and packets of really bad tarter sauce. For this small meal - 4 bites- I had to heat it, cut some lemon and use my own tartar sauce. Go to Royal Oak - $17 for twice as much really good food.

I came here on a Saturday evening with a friend and it was a little busy but we were able to be seated right away. I got the halibut fish and chips and my friend got the chicken souvlaki. Their halibut was sub par and pretty average. Their fries could have been salted more too but at least they were crunchy. The chicken was really good though and surprisingly juicy. The staff were really friendly but could be hard to flag down sometimes. Parking is a breeze here since it shares its medium sized parking lot with the plaza which isn't very busy.

    So much chips

Fish and chips local spot we passed on many many spot and finally got a chance to try it. We ordered the two piece cod combo and halibut combo. The fish were all really crispy and the chips had the great crispy and soggy texture. The fish all had a great light batter exterior with tender fish inside. The cod was nice and flaky and the halibut was extremely meaty. The only downside was it seemed that they might have missed our coleslaw.

    2 eggs breakfast with sausages
    Victoria S.

I was a little skeptical at first due to the appearance of the plaza and external storefront but upon going in, it's got cute diner vibes for breakfast! On a weekend it was the perfect kind of busy, no lineup but lively enough to bring up the atmosphere. I ordered the 2 eggs with sausages, home fries and buttered toast which was more than enough food for me. Our home fries were freshly made so it was warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This place is such a reasonable price which is hard to come by these days. The tea and coffee have unlimited refills as well. Overall, I'd come here again for the breakfast diner experience.

Halibut fish and ridiculously small portion of calamari...not worth $9

Although this is a busy brunch restaurant, the turnover happens fast, and we have never waited more than 30 minutes for a seat. The staff are great and always accommodating and very patient when my kids can't make up their minds about what they want to eat or drink. You pass through a charming patio to enter, which was shaded nicely thanks to the size of the Shoppers building. Given the recent heatwave, we opted to sit indoors. We were greeted at the door and offered the choice between a two-person table tucked farther inside or a four-person table closer to other diners. We chose the smaller table for a bit more privacy and ease of conversation. Menus were provided right away, followed shortly by tap water. When our server checked in to ask about drinks, we let her know we were fine with just water. Later, when we were ready to order, she came promptly when we called her over. A standout moment: we ordered just one smoothie, and she kindly asked if we were sharing, then offered to split it into two cups without us even asking. A thoughtful and appreciated gesture. The Pineapple Banana Smoothie was a highlight. It was perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, and incredibly refreshing. My sister ordered the Halloumi Benedict. She noted that while the waffles leaned toward a sweeter flavor on their own, the combination of waffle, egg, and halloumi was well-balanced and worked beautifully together. The egg was jammy and spot-on in terms of taste, texture, and presentation. I had the Fully Loaded, which features a potato waffle topped with bacon bits, sour cream, chives, and cheese. It leaned a bit salty, but not overwhelmingly so, still quite enjoyable overall. I loved the potato waffle which has the slightly crispy edges but was soft to bite with a texture that resembled mash potatoes. As someone who isn't usually crazy about waffles, which was such a nice alternative. Each of our mains came with a side salad (lightly dressed and refreshing) and a choice of fruit salad, maple baked beans, or potato salad. We both chose the fruit salad, which was impressively varied with orange, grapefruit, watermelon, blueberry, blackberry, and banana. Note: Payment is cash or debit only.

My dad got the T-Bone special at medium (originally it was only meant for the 23rd onwards) which was allowed because the original owner was present tonight. My mom got the Certified Angus medium. I got the New York steak for myself at rare doneness. For the soup that came with I upgraded mine to French Onion and my parents took the regular/daily which was also accompanied by garlic bread-ish. Additionally, I got a Long Island Iced Tea and in the process of it caught a conversation between Kitchen and Old Owner that their ice machine is broken so I have NO IDEA where the ice for my drink came from--other than that it tasted fine and the old owner personally made it. T-Bone was not up to par. It was exceedingly tough according to my dad and inconsistently cooked. It was closer to a medium well than a medium rare-medium and subsequently whether from improper prep or age of the cut, it wasn't juicy. From what I witnessed when I did look up at my dad, it was tough to cut no matter how small or large he sliced it. Certified Angus was passable. My mom didn't have many complaints nor praises so take that as you will. Could tell at a glance the vegetables were the family pack frozen ones from Costco. My New York Steak was passable-ish. The fat cap wasn't rendered down properly and the steak itself was slightly tough in certain areas. The doneness was fine at rare, but with all this in mind--if you want a consistent cook medium to well seems to be the way. My problem mainly with the food lies in seasoning and ingredient quality. The vegetables are for some reason visually and texturally rough and fuzzy? They melt in your mouth in the worst way possible. There is no crunch, not even on the carrot. It was mush, plain and simply, same with the mashed potatoes. No seasoning aside from gravy and actual mush it was melting every forkful into my mouth. No hint of garlic, butter, milk or cream--just bland potato mush with gravy. Ambiance? Nothing at all. I don't know what to describe it other than quiet and empty. There was one other table aside from ours and one take-out order. From the bits of conversation with the old owner, I gleaned that at the turnover at first, regulars were aplenty but they tapered off and dwindled as time went on and that looks to be accurate based on reviews here on Yelp and over on Google. Business has been slowing down and much of it is attributed to the declining quality both in service and food/ingredients. The new owners of the establishment bought this restaurant for the brand name but didn't upkeep the standard for food, quality, and service. There's just no business acumen from the new owners from what I can see based on reviews of this year and my experience tonight. The old owner was the saving grace for this visit on Saturday December 20th, otherwise the rating might drop to a 1 or 2 out of 5.
