Had an after-dinner dessert here and was bowled over by the selection of different ice cream flavors. I had a scoop of chocolate almond and a second scoop of toasted almond. My friend had two different kinds of ice cream with peanut butter in them. Both seemed to disappear immediately from the bowls once we sat down. The service was quick but there was no banter or advice offered by the young people behind the counter. So the only thing that would improve this place was to hire servers that had a little more personality. Otherwise an excellent local Princeton place for ice cream. read more

Halo pub has the sweetest employees and the best flavors of ice cream Great place to hang out with friends and family

I went by this store yesterday to buy a birthday cake for mom. The employee was very polite but firmly let me know the owners did not allow neither him nor anyone else currently present in the establishment to write anything on the cake. I simply wanted 'Happy Birthday Mom!' or 'H.B. Mom!' on it. I even asked to buy chocolate fudge or icing and write on it myself. The employee politely apologized saying he was not allowed to do so by the owners. Negative customer experience indeed. This will definitely inform my future purchases from this establishment. This place has LOTS of flavors! You can try two flavors and I tried the peach and mango. The peach didn't have enough peach flavor and just tasted like vanilla, but the mango was good so I got that. One scoop was $2.45 including tax which was great! The ice cream wasn't super creamy and parts of it were icy. Not too bad but pretty average for ice cream. My favorite ice cream place since I was like...5! Since then I have been a loyal fan of the "lemon cream sorbet" flavor. It's truly unlike any other sorbet I've tried. Haven't been able to find it anywhere else, and I kid you not- I've converted at least 7 people, who were amazed by its unique creamy yet tangy flavor. SO TRY IT IF YOU HAVENT YET! The last time I went they actually ran out and I was really upset. :( But there are soooooo many other flavors so I went with the chocolate chip and everything was okay. Also their scoops are pretty big and you can get a lottttttt of ice cream for less than $5, so all the better! If I lived close by I would without a doubt be having Halo Pub every night. We love Halo Pub. Serving sizes are much larger than the nearby Bent Spoon and, in my opinion, the ice cream is more tasty than the also nearby Thomas Sweet. While browsing for a local cafe in Princeton,Halo Pub seemed to be a clear favorite. The reviews were spot on and it certainly did live up to expectations. The cafe itself is quite charming and the layout makes for good socializing. None of us were in the mood for ice cream so we settled for coffee,hot chocolate and iced mocha.The iced mocha was so good that we ordered 2 more. After reading more reviews,I wish we had tried the ice creams too. The service is great and there's a good vibe going on with friendly locals hanging out having a good time. My favorite ice cream place of all! Many different flavors and taste home made. Price is very reasonable for Princeton standard. I feel this place is more favorable than Bent Spoon, it feels more home like, smells home made inside. Bent Spoon seems more "upscale" and therefor snobby, charges higher price for their "artisan" style, whatever that means. read more

Great prices and flavors for the whole family! I love halo pub and have been going for years. I usually frequent their Hamilton location. This spot is small with some indoor and outdoor seating. Favorite flavors are the cookies and cream and any of the chocolate flavors. They also have soft serve sorbets and ice cream. The toppings are the best part. Lots to choose from and the whip cream is made fresh. I have also enjoyed the espresso here on a few occasions. The ice cream pastries always look good but for some reason I always forget they are in the next room. Will have to try them and update soon. read more

This was the best ice cream I've ever had and I've had good ice cream. In the gorgeous town of Princeton it is one of the thing open latest. I kept it simple and got a scoop of plain chocolate. It was absolutely delightful, I love cream, I love real ice cream, it's worth the indulgence and I think the total I paid for 5 people was something like $16. Ridiculous. To the person who said this place was dingy and underwhelming: How do I even begin to answer you? Let me start by saying this place NEVER changes, and that's a lot to say about a place you've been coming to your entire life. Second, the COWS. Every inch of dark, homey wood is covered in antique portraiture of livestock. It's not supposed to be some hip, manicured "atmosphere" out of a lifestyle magazine. I went to Halo Pub for Ice Cream on September 2nd and my experience was less than savory. The place was packed, which is usually a glowing testament and I proceeded to order one scoop of ice cream. Everything was as it should be when I paid the cashier with a $20 bill and pocketed the change and made way for other customers and was soon on my way back home, about 45 miles away. What prompted me to write this review today was the incident that followed that transaction; upon reaching home, I noticed that the cashier had given me the wrong change and I was short by $10. I rang the store and spoke with someone to explain my situation and how I couldn't come in the same day as I was more than an hour away. They took my contact information and other details of the transaction and directed me to ring their General Manager, Christina, then next day at their Lawrenceville location. I rang the next day however she was not in and the mailbox was not set up to take messages. I did speak with her on Tuesday and explained the situation again. She responded by saying she would look into it for me and get back to me. She didn't. So I rang again on Thursday and spoke with her...she said she didn't have any details and that she would get back to me by the end of the day on Friday. She didn't. I am disappointed that a local ice cream store would not consider it a priority to respond to a customer's concern and to making amends. It looks like either the management or the employee who did not make the right change is more interested in keeping the money rather than a customer, which is rather unfortunate. Needless to say, this has left a bitter taste in my mouth and prompted me to share this unpleasant incident with the community to help bring awareness. Update: I removed my review last week after I was assured by the manager that she would be sending me compensation. I have not received anything and being lied to repeatedly has only added to my unpleasant experience of Halo Farm. read more

Based on the spoonfuls I've sampled and bites I've sneaked from friends' cups, I'd say the ice cream at Halo Pub is worth the rave reviews. Unfortunately I've never made it here in above-freezing temperature, so this review is primarily for their hot drinks. I've tried Halo's caramel apple cider, Paris hot chocolate, eggnog, and "cappu-nog." All are great for warming up your hands and your insides when it's cold outside, but my favorite is probably the cappu-nog, a mix of their sweet double-cream eggnog and quality espresso. The Paris hot chocolate (essentially melted Valrhona chocolate) is rich and indulgent in the best way, but it can be a bit cloying in anything other than the "short" size. Cider is the best option for a hot drink that's lighter but still season-appropriate. The best part of Halo Pub is their prices. Price and size options differ for the various drinks, but as an example, I paid $2.25 for a tall cappu-nog today. I can't think of a single place that's so affordable. Highly recommend for a cozy respite from the cold! read more

My absolute favorite place to get ice cream in Princeton area! It is a small shop packed with charm. From babies to grandpas, they all love it! During the warm months, the line goes out the door all the time. They also have live bands playing music in the small outdoor area every now and then. The store is actually two stores in one. The Halo Pub, which serve hand crafted ice cream and sundaes loaded with toppings, and the Halo Fete, with their beautiful ice cream pastry. The flavors are marvelous. My personal favorites are strawberry chocolate chip and raspberry cream sorbet. The price is very reasonable at $1.75 for a small cone and you can actually ask them to scoop two different flavors on a small cone! Now isn't that a great deal? Also, you can get complimentary pastry when you get coffee. Make sure you pay them a visit if you are lucky enough to be in Princeton! read more

Halo Pub, how I heart thee. Halo Pub prides itself on serving ice cream made with their own milk and cream. The ice cream flavors resemble flavors that you would see at any other ice cream joint but that doesn't mean that they taste like any other old ice cream. The ice cream is very creamy, even the sorbets! High quality ice cream at low prices, that's the motto and I have to say Halo Pub lives up to their motto. The ice cream here is easily a dollar or two less than other ice cream parlors in Princeton. Some of my favorite flavors are the sorbets, Cashew Caramel and Peanut Paradise. There are SO many ice cream shops in Princeton. As freshmen, we even had an orientation activity called the 'ice cream crawl' where we were given vouchers for all (most?) of the spots in Princeton and attempted to eat our way through them in one night... it was difficult, even for an ice cream lover with a bottomless "dessert stomach".... Anyway, of all the shops, I split 100% of my patronage between two: Bent Spoon and Halo. The Bent Spoon is truly the best, and their variety of flavors is out of this world. But if I'm just craving plain old chocolate (or some other basic flavor), I don't feel like forking out $5 when I love Halo's for $2. read more

I'm torn because for food and value, they get 5 stars, but for customer service, they get 0. A coworker told me several days ago he was running to Halo Pub to get takeout pints for home. I looked online for flavors and put in my order, telling him I'd seen a "buy 2 pints get 1 free" offer so he should get 3. He came back with a bill for 3 pints. I called to inquire, was told they knew nothing about it, and was given what turned out to be the *home* phone number for someone at Halo Farms I should talk to. When I realized the voicemail didn't suggest a business, I tried calling HF directly and explained. Turned out two issues: Google indexed one site on halofarms.com while their root site showed no sign of the offer, and also, they intended the offer to be only for the "farm" location and not the pub. It said nothing about this except perhaps having a picture of a farm in the upper left corner -- otherwise, that page was reachable as the flavors list of Halo Pub. A good company would own up to the confusion and offer some consolation. Instead, I was told they'd get back to me, but this happened only when the same person realized many days later I'd left a message at her home. At this point she said she'd taken this to the manager, and he said I should have known it didn't apply to the Pub because of the picture of the Farm in the corner. Yeah, right. Serious, this place is so bomb. I had the "milk chocolate brandy" flavor and it is deliciously chocolatety and alcoholic. They really do a great job with boozy ice cream. I feel like they really aren't known for this specialty, but rather, they are known for having rich, creamy ice cream.
