We came here after attempting to go to Bent Spoon, but their hours were terrible. We're glad we made it to halo pub. They had classic, traditional flavors, with a few unique flavors. I opted for the chocolate peanut butter which had real, thick PB swirls in it. I'm also not usually a chocolate person, but their quality was on point. Because of COVID, there weren't made people out on the streets, but enough to make it homey with the Christmas lights hanging from tree to tree. read more

There always tends to be a huge line and buzz but with icecream this authentic and fresh, it's worth the wait. One thing I adored was their option to get a 1/2 scoop in case you were so stuffed after your meal but still wanted to indulge in some icecream. There's a good reason, the homemade ice cream is delicious, made with fresh ingredients, simple, not overly sweet, and priced right! Once you enter the store, it looks like an old pub, but there are pictures relating to ice cream and cows hung on the walls and also hanging cow decor. One you order the ice cream in a cone or a cup, you can also add toppings like nuts, chocolate, and candy for additional cost. They also serve coffee, espesso, teas, and juices. Happy Tuesday Adventurers! I got to drop by here while visiting the Princeton area and it is such a cute spot! I LOVE when a place sells really espresso and ice cream ! Usually I'll order a chocolate ice cream and pour the espresso over it since you get the wonderful textures. This place however I chose a doppio and strawberry ice creams. The quality of both were so good compared to a few places near me. But my favorite is they had a space for you to sit and enjoy the ambiance of the place. Unfortunately they don't offer a rest room but the library is a block away so not too bad. read more

I love Halo's ice cream but was sad after waiting in line for over 20-25 minutes to get in the door, that they didn't have my favorite, chocolate chocolate chip ice cream, a favorite in the store as well. This is one of those places where they either have it that day or it's run out and you'll just have to come back another time. But you'll want to come back! I've been here once before and it was good, but this time the ice cream was icy--as in had ice crystals--and had a strange aftertaste. I got the cherry vanilla, which my friend declared is his favorite in New Jersey (a tall order given all the ice cream here!), but I thought Uncle Ed's cherry vanilla was much better. In addition, the employees are a little unenthusiastic. The first time I went I asked an opinion question and got zero response. This time they seemed annoyed. Stopped in here after a Yelp event nearby for some coffee and ice cream. Overall enjoyed everything. There are two entrances. The one to the right is where the seating is and a cake/pastry counter. The one to the left is where the coffee counter and ice cream counter is. It's a pretty confusing setup and everything is ordered at each counter. If you want coffee and ice cream you have to go to both counters. I ordered the affogato with vanilla ice cream and it was delicious. My husband had the raspberry sorbet and an espresso. Both were excellent. Service was friendly. My one issue here when we walked in was the smell. Not sure if they had just cleaned but it smelled so much like cleaner that we took out ice cream to go. Aside from the smell and the weird counter setup I'd go back. Although this is a pretty busy area we had no issue finding street parking a block away. read more

Delicious ice cream! One big plus to this place is that there's a good amount of space inside so you don't feel squashed (unlike another ice cream place in the vicinity!). I wouldn't describe the flavors here as wildly creative, but they are definitely tasty. I was impressed by the strawberry with chocolate chips, and they even have toppings (I got the gummy bears, which are never a good ice cream topping but I always get them anyway). It's also really nice that you can get a single scoop of ice cream for a very affordable price. I will almost certainly be back here! read more

TLDR; this place has a plethora of flavors to choose from in both ice cream and soft serve. But beware the lines move really slow, the toppings look and taste old, and the ice cream isn't kept cool properly. Princeton has a lot of dessert spots to choose from. The thing that sets this place apart is it's late closing hours and unique ice cream flavors. Halo Pub offers favorite flavors like coffee chip and unique ones like Starwberry Hearth(yeah like the chocolate bar) to choose from. Even their soft serve collection includes coffee flavor(which isn't too common). If you're hoping to try something new then this place definitely has options. One complaint that I had about the ice cream was that it was melted and icy. Still tasted fine but felt more like a frape as opposed to ice cream. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming their cooling system wasn't working properly the day we went: Also careful of the toppings. They are stale and old. All of the candies look like they haven't been restocked in ages. The Oreos looked like they were soggy. And their almonds are so salty and wreak of old oil smell. I'd recommend passing on the toppings all together or if you must then get safe toppings like coconut flakes. I don't even know how to get started on the line. Even though the lines aren't super long they move really really slow. An average of 7 mins a person when we went. If there's a small group ahead of you then expect to wait 45 or so minutes. Legit we had a few girls up ahead of us that just left after getting tired waiting in line for 40 minutes. The restaurant definitely needs more people behind the counter. There were only two kids who were just talking to one another as opposed to paying attention to the customers. Honestly speaking I actually really enjoyed the ice cream, but would I say it's worth the wait.... No Also just a disclaimer the inside when we went had seats but it was closed to the public. Regardless this is not a very good sit down place. It smells of cleaning chemicals and has a very dated infrastructure. Though there are no wild or wacky flavors, the base for their ice cream is balanced, has a luscious mouthfeel, and is not excessively sweet. My favorite flavor is the chocolate chocolate chip, which has rich a subtle notes of ... who am I kidding? It's damn good chocolate ice cream. I wrote a bad review years ago. Finally came back. I'm done with this place for good. The kids working there are the worst. Couldn't get served as his friends walked in, stepped behind the counter, and all helped themselves to a free ice cream while cursing up a storm. I'm sure this is a health violation. Good ice cream, but there is little reason to go to Halo Pub when the Bent Spoon and Kilwin's are right around the corner and Thomas Sweet is a bit further down Nassau (for those craving a blend-in). Halo Pub is easily worse than the Bent Spoon, and based on the flavors I've tried, it's also worse than Thomas Sweet and on par with Kilwin's. Also, unlike each of the other three, Halo Pub does not do samples. This means you have to either have very consistent preferences about your ice cream or else get lucky and stumble on the right flavor. read more

My friend took me to Halo Pub three years ago, and I remember ordering ice cream and then regretting my decision when I saw the soft serve machines. Fast forward to Halloween night, when Halo Pub was open (and Bent Spoon wasn't), and I remembered that fateful day. So I switched out my order for the mango sorbet, and it was SO GOOD! So there was a line up outside this place. You know we had to wait in it. Ice cream was super super good. No artificial anything's, price was right, and service was offered with a smile. So many amazing flavours to choose from but anytime I see peanut butter, I can't help myself. Princeton was the first campus I visited when I came to the USA for the first time 11 years ago and I remember my relatives taking me to this ice cream place to try out "the best ice cream ever". You step into this little ice cream parlour which transports you back in time for some reason. I would love to grab a coffee and a scone, sit at a small table here and just watch the people go by. We've always gone at night but that doesn't stop students or visitors alike from lining up to get their favorite ice cream, shake, hot chocolate or coffee. You're spoiled for choices and the ice cream is really very good. Perfectly creamy and melt in the mouth and the quality is just as good as it was all those years ago. Went at night on an impulse. The line was within the shop but still a line. There is a polite sign on the door saying not to hold it open bc it will be too much on their ac and fridges. Do yourself a favor and don't bother trying to look at all of their selections. Go in with an idea of what you want or look online first. Really, it is too much of a last minute decision trying to maneuver past the other people to look at all the options. Do you want this line to move or not? So then you pay at the other end of the "L" shaped counter and there is a whole 'nother room where they have seating! It's not as cool temperature-wise in there but if you need to put your stuff down and take a break to eat your ice cream indoors (instead of outdoors, where it will definitely melt in the NJ summer night), this place is great. They had a display case of the ice cream cakes. The flavor combinations seemed awesome, like chocolate raspberry. There's thought put into this place and the ice cream was great. And I'm so glad they had a half scoop size. Genius!! Also!!! They had really reasonable prices. My sugar cone 1/2-scoop was $1.95. You can't find honest pricing like that anywhere. I'm not big on coffee, but I like capuccinos, so I stopped in here on the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. It was a beautiful day and there were a lot of people out shopping (it was support small business day), but there was only one person working the counter and the place was packed. The girl was working as fast as she could, but people were getting angry (as if there weren't other places to go), and she was being run ragged.
