I had the absolute pleasure to meet Matt at my spray tan appointment today. I was running late and they were gracious enough to squeeze me in (as I'm sure you can imagine how busy they are making everyones skin golden bronzed to ring in the New Year). This was my first time here and they were extremely friendly, not to mention funny and sweet! My airbrush tan was with Matt and it looks amazing! I've already received two compliments on my sun-kissed complexion, which I quickly referred over to this amazing salon. I love going to this place! This review is long over due. Whenever I need a tanning service, this is the place I come to. Their packages are affordable, and the atmosphere is friendly and professional. Matt and his staff go out of the way to make their clients feel comfortable. They abide by the industry guidelines, and just provide great services overall. I have used their tanning beds and also bought some spray tans for weddings I was in. (I'm a runner and have horrible sports tank tan-lines!). My experiences were great! I was nervous about getting a spray tan, but Matt was a total professional and walked me through the process before I even left the front desk. I knew exactly what to expect and the result was a perfect tan (that many people complimented me on at the wedding!). Bottom line: Clean, friendly staff, and affordable. Can't beat that! read more

I woke up this morning looking like a glowing goddess thanks to Kyle. I'm taking headshots on Thursday and wanted a little glow for my pictures. I'm originally olive complexion and from Miami, so I'm used to being a little darker. These winter months wash out my tan and make me look pale. However, after this spray tan session, my skin looks flawless. I was so nervous about the whole thing, but Andy and Kyle were so informative and helpful and put me at ease. Kyle knew just what I wanted and was so patient and kind throughout the entire process. They only use organic spray tanning which is also nice. I didn't have any stains, streaks, or harsh smell. After calling several salons trying to book a last minute appointment to fix a "tan emergency" (botched self tanner job the night before a corporate retreat in sunny Florida), I got a late night appointment with Kyle. LOVE him and his staff. They were super fun and funny and (most importantly) helped take away my patchy leopard spots without making me look like an Oompa Loompa. This is a great place to go for a quality and healthy spray tan experience. I have specific allergies to additives and sulfates and had to call around to find a place that had a really clean formula. The only place I could find was this Halsted Street Beach Tanning! I am a pale Caucasian woman who received a level two tan. The first two days I was a little darker than I wanted, but once the bronzer faded and tan set on the third day, it was great! I knew that ahead of time so I got my tan on Thursday for a Saturday wedding. I got a lot of complements at the wedding! Andy was my point person and sprayer and he was patience and comfortable to work with. This was my first time every getting a spray tan and this place has set an awesome standard should I ever need to get another spray tan! This is the best spray tan in the city! Kyle is the owner and takes great pride in his work. Kyle's staff is knowledgeable about their products and up to date on the latest trends. I feel comfortable having Kyle do my spray tan as he carries himself in a professional manner and goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. The products that Kyle uses on my skin never leave my skin feeling dry. Kyle has worked around my schedule when I have been in a pinch and is always accommodating. I've been a client of street beach tan for what feels like a life time. Every time I go in for a tan or spa service it feels like I'm going to hang out with long time friends. Not only do I always feel welcome by the entire staff but, they are so knowledgeable and continually keeping up with the latest and greatest. Going into day 5 of my spray tan and I'm still getting compliments. Never any bad spots from the beginning and so far no splotchy fading! I'm very pale and got a level 2 which was perfect. Simply put, this place is the best! I bought the Groupon for a spray tan ($19) and it looks great! The difference between this place and say a LA Tan is that they spray you and apply the barrier cream. You don't come out looking orange and have it on your nails. They recommend which shade you should use and offer products such as lotions but don't try to guilt you into buying it. Everyone knows that lotions are pricey, so it's nice not to be bombarded with up-selling. I believe Colby did my tan - he was great! I will be back. read more

I feel like Halsted Street Beach is my home away from home cause I'm there so often! I can't say enough great things about the business. I have been going for years to use the tanning beds and just recently began the red light therapy and had a facial. Love all the services I've done. They use the "Belly" program, so the more you go, you get big discounts (you don't have to sign up ahead of time, you can do it right there and it's free!) Bought something from the 302 line that I love already and I'm really particular about ingredients - not tested on animals and no animal ingredients. (It's what is used for facials). Matt and his staff are wonderful and make you feel at home. Do yourself a favor and check them out. It's a breath of fresh air after going to one of those awful, corporate chain, contract-necessary tanning salons! Every time you spend money, you are casting a vote for the type of world you want. I cant think of a better owner than Matt. He knows EVERY in and out detail about the sun and its effects, tanning, and whats best for each person that walks in the door. Ive always been VERY hesitant about tanning, staying in the sun too long, etc and my skincare routine consists of every facial, cream, cleanser out there. I take very good care of my skin and Matt truly opened my eyes to the difference between good and bad habits related to tanning/sun exposure. I so look forward to my tanning appointments just to chat and laugh with the friendly and accommodating staff. I walk out of the salon with bronzed, flawless skin that glows. I get more compliments when I spray tan/stand-up tan than any other place Ive ever been. If I could give more stars, I would. I was really impressed by the service here. Matt, the owner, made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked through the door. The airbrush tan I received was super fast, and the color looks great! What impressed me the most was the follow up call I received the next morning to see if I was happy with the way my color turned out, and to offer touch ups as needed. I have been a customer of this Salon for 3+ years-I have never been a tanning girl myself but the staff and overall cleanliness and attentiveness at Halsted Street Beach are certainly deserving of nothing but praise and high ratings. The thing I think I appreciate the most is that the owner, Matt, remembered me and took the time to talk with me when I had not been there in over a year. Lakeview is a neighborhood of many small businesses and the ones that thrive in my opinion are those like Halsted Street, where you are made to feel like you are a special customer, even if you probably spend less money there than most people do. I come in a few times a week for a few minutes and get treated like a "regular" which is just lovely. Matt is certainly a passionate and at times boisterously vivacious man who has a booming voice but is always kind and caring to everyone who walks in his door whether there are 10 people piled into the tiny waiting room or just one or two. I love this place!!! It is very clean and Matt, the owner, is fantastic. I have been several places to have my legs waxed and this was by far the least painful. I also had my first spray tan ever here and it was perfect. It wasn't orange at all (which is what I was worried about). This place is wonderful. I went today for the first time to prep for my spring break trip, and it lived up to all the good yelp reviews. I was worried that the experience would be very awkward since you strip down to your undies in front of a total stranger, but the guy who helped me was very nice and made me feel at ease. I really like the results, very natural! The price is reasonable, too, comparable to a mystic, and they were running a buy-one-get-one-free deal while I was there, so it will actually be cheaper than a mystic after I use my second tan. I recently went here to start tanning again. I am very pleased. Everyone who has helped me has been very friendly and very helpful. The most recent time I went the bed I always use was having some "issues". The two guys working there were very apologetic and helpful to get the bed working again. I had to wait a little while because there were fixing the issue but the really nice (and cute) guy with the crew cut and gray jeans on, was so nice and friendly, I didn't mind waiting. He was so great and again, very nice to look at. I will have to get his name next time. All in all, the people here are great, especially the owner. He is very knowledgeable and very friendly. I highly recommend this place. No one is pushy and make you buy things, but rather, they offer things as a suggestion. Great place! read more

I'm so glad I stopped in and tried a spray tan at Halsted Street Beach. They were gracious enough to take me on the fly and it looks fantastic - the price is right too! I couldn't ask for a better place and people to come take a break and a little "me time" than at this salon. They are professional, friendly and have an overall fun atmosphere. The owner, Matt, happened to be there which was great because he was able to make some helpful suggestions on some skin issues I've been having due to medications. They have red light therapy and a fabulous skincare line, both of which I had never heard of but did some research on since my visit and can't seem to find one negative review so I'm hoping to start a regimen soon. He's very knowledgeable, open-minded, (and so fun!) which is greatly appreciated since my skin has been troublesome and a sensitive topic lately. My only complaint is that they're not located in my neighborhood - I wish they were closer but I'm sure I can work it out! Just had my first spray tan ever done here for a friend's wedding this weekend (I had tan lines that needed to blend better!) Not only do they make you feel super comfortable but even when you somehow keep messing it up while it's drying and have to have your inner arm redone 5 times they don't make you feel bad. All in all it looks great and I would do it again in a heartbeat and hopefully won't be such a pain in the butt customer next time. read more

After moving to Chicago last winter, I wanted to get a boost from some UV rays. Halstead Beach was close by and got great reviews. I went about three times. The first time going I was inquiring about their early bird special, and was slightly offended when the owner Matt asked, "Are you Jewish?" The last time I went I vowed not to go back EVER! I went in and it was Matt and an employee, it was slightly awkward because he snapped at his employee and told him to "just get out of here". Then when I went to pay for my session I handed him my card. He swiped and told me to put in my PIN. I asked him to please run it as credit, since I no longer input my PIN at retail shops after having my identity stolen. He then held out his hand and demanded, "Give it to me." So he could rerun my card. So I stood in awkward silence as he did. When he handed it back to me he said, "I hope you know that it's basically like I just let you tan for free!" After fuming in the tanning bed for the next 15 minutes, I came out to an even stranger experience to this guy hugging me. Telling me that he is sorry he snapped and that he hadn't eaten yet that day. Although he tried to rectify it by hugging me and giving me a free tanning card, there is no way I will be returning. This owner needs a lesson in professionalism! read more
