    BBQ Pork Bahn Mi
    Jacob M.

Went on a weekend trip with my girlfriend to eat our way through San Francisco, and wanted to grab something nearby to bring into Golden Gate Park to watch the bison and wander around. We found Mr. Banh Mi in the nearby Outer Richmond neighborhood, and it looked legit from what we saw. It was our first time in the Outer Richmond, and it turned out to be a really charming area with lots of good food and cool little shops. Mr. Banh Mi is a small hole-in-the-wall with a pickup window and a tiny interior counter and kitchen. I ordered the BBQ Pork Banh Mi since the young man up front kindly recommended it, and my girlfriend ordered the Tofu Banh Mi. These sandwiches were super well-priced and came out fast, hot, and good-sized. They smelled amazing and had our mouths watering immediately. We ate half at the beginning of our walk and saved the other half for later in the day at Golden Gate Park. The BBQ pork had a great sauce on it and plenty of jalapeños and pickled veggies, mostly carrots, and not quite enough daikon for me personally, but it was absolutely loaded with meat and vegetables. It was delicious when fresh, but somehow even better a few hours later when I finished the second half. The sauce had soaked into the bread more, and the flavors really came together. I did miss the usual huge helping of buttery Vietnamese mayo, and there was no pâté, which was a slight disappointment for me. It did feel a little dry at first since the juicy marinated BBQ pork had to provide most of the moisture. That said, the bread was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and everything tasted super fresh. Overall, this was the perfect on-the-go meal, and I would definitely come back next time I'm heading to Golden Gate Park.

It was the Friday after Thanksgiving and almost all of the stores on Balboa St. were pretty much closed or sold out of food. I spotted this place and I'm so grateful I took a chance on it. I cannot recommend the BBQ Pork Banh Mi enough! I got extra cucumbers and sauce but honestly, totally fine without the extras. It's tucked off behind a bus stop and a tree so it's easy to miss unless you're looking for it. Highly recommend!!

The order: $10.95 BBQ pork sandwich $11.95 BBQ pork spring roll $9.95 panko fried shrimp $10.95 Special Combination sandwich Service was friendly but sadly this is a strictly takeout only place -- not even a stool to sit on outside. Their prices are fair. I think there's way too much carrots stuffed into the sandwiches. I liked the special combination, which is the sandwich I use to measure the authenticity of a banh mi place. I would not get the $10 panko shrimp again because they clearly tasted like frozen premade shrimp that they air fried. The bbq pork spring roll was also pretty mid for $12. If you're craving a bang mi and you don't wanna leave the neighborhood, I would recommend the combo. I almost got the fried chicken banh mi but they told me it's just chicken tenders -- WHAT?!

Service: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Value for $$: 5/5 Overall: 4/5 I've ordered many sandwiches from this place and it doesn't disappoint. I just hope they were open 7 days a week. It's a family owned restaurant, reasonably priced, and the quality is decent. My favorite is the BBQ pork banh mi. I have also tried the pork belly sandwich and beef BBQ, they are not as good as the bbq pork. The beef is a bit chewy and the pork belly is just way too fatty.

Swung by while in the area. Didn't really have any expectations going into it, but was definitely impressed! I got the banh mi dac biet and it was around $11. You order at the door, there's no seating. Food was ready in about 5-10 minutes. Taste wise it was good -- absolutely loaded with meat! The bread was crispy but still soft enough that it didn't cut the inside of your mouth. I do think there could have been more pickled carrots and daikon though. Overall a solid spot and I would come again if I was in the area, not sure if I would make the trek all the way out here otherwise for it.

Not much to say about Mr Banh mi, but it's one of my favorite Banh mi places in the Bay. They're decently sized and affordable (though their prices have gone up from when I was a kid, due to inflation). Sadly, Mr Banh Mi is to-go orders only, since they've closed the sit-down area of the restaurant and it's now just a storefront. Try the combo pork with extra pate. The pork belly is also very good. They pack the sandwiches with meat, so you'll get your money's worth here.

Fast to order and receive food. The bread was not as crispy as some other places but the overall taste was good.

I've been going to this place for years and their quality has not gone down in my opinion. They're neatly tucked away and easy to miss if not for their large sign. It's not a sit down restaurant, just a door with a table to order from as well as a takeout window. They're also one of the few affordable banh mi shops in the Richmond. My usual order is either combination or tofu banh mi. Ingredients are fresh and they're stuffed to the max. The staff is polite and are quick even during busier times. I can't go a few weeks without a banh mi fix so I'm glad this is so close by.

After finishing up an errand in the neighborhood, I found myself trying to find a place that happened to still be open. A lot of the places in the area that I wanted to get food from were closed because it was a Monday or because it was after 3pm already. I saw the good reviews for Mr Banh Mi and was nervously excited to try this place since I love banh mis and the reviews here while mostly positive, some have mentioned that there are off days for the meats and sandwiches. I was especially nervous since it was the day before Christmas Eve and later in the day near closing time. I bit the bullet, called my order in and made my ways over. I pulled up and noticed a bunch of college kids at the bus stop eating their sandwiches and relief started washing over me. It has to be pretty good if there are still people grabbing a bite here this late in the day. The place has no seating and it's a grab and go spot, which we love since 90% of my dining is to go and I needed to charge my car on the way home. Tip selection reflected the nature of the business and to my surprise were 5/10/15% options. I'm a default middle button tipper or 18% tipper and even then I roll my eyes sometimes when the tip options head into the 30% range, especially if it's takeout. I got myself a bbq chicken banh mi and really wanted to get spring rolls but knew it would be too much food with a dinner plan approaching. The banh mi was perfect. The bbq chicken was sauced nicely and the meat was not too dry and not too wet, with the sauce, it almost had a bbq bao like consistency, not as traditional as your normal banh mis but definitely not unconventional. The sandwich was packed with vegetables. I normally get extra veggies at other places but another sigh of relief when I opened it up and saw it completely stuffed. The sandwich was so good, and I almost wished I had gotten the pork because I know that would have been phenomenal as well. The bread was still fairly fresh despite it being the end of day and had a nice crunch with the tear. The pictures don't really do it justice. It's too hard to show how big the portion is but at $10, it's well worth the price, especially if you're comparing it to the $6 banh mi you'd get at Saigon. They're way different sandwiches too. To wrap this up, I definitely will be back with a bigger appetite to go in on the other sandwiches and get the spring rolls, which also has a fairly diverse and unique lineup of bbq meats to chose from. One of the best banh mis in the city. Skip the Dinosaur by SFSU for this.

My family likes to go to Kim Son across the street and one day noticed this place across the street. I believe the owner has some relation to the business, so we decided to try it out since we love Kim Son's food! Bbq pork - 4/5, super flavorful pork! Didn't quite seem like your typical grilled pork, but I didn't mind. It still had that bbq pork flavor, which was very strong. Luckily, the pickled veggies helped tame the flavor. Combo - 4/5, fatty pork belly and sliced pork deli meat. Pretty good, I usually always get chicken but decided to try combos. Not too salty, but still tasted good. The different types of pork gave it a lot of texture, which I liked. Although these sandwiches were solid as is, I definitely think they could have added a thicker layer of mayo and paté. It was a very thin spread, and I personally like a generous amount.

I generally don't like to leave bad reviews unless warranted and to warn people. Overall, not a bad place or experience, but I have no intentions to come back anytime soon. Service was ok, there were no other customers and our food didn't take long. Egg rolls are a hard pass. There was a pool of grease at the bottom of the box. Nobody complained about any of their sandwiches (bbq beef & bbq pork). Combo sandwich looks good. ** my pork belly sandwich was not that good. Super small thin slices of meat and only 4 small pieces of recognizable pork belly. The rest looked like lean pork loin, no belly fat. My whole sandwich was buried under carrots, I had to dig to find the meat.

Searching up for some inexpensive eats and came across Mr. Banh Mi! So my bf and I decided to grab a few sandwiches here. VIETNAMESE HEADCHEESE SANDWICH ~ I love headcheese. because of its chew texture! Had to try this. With the headcheese, they add pâté spread and mayo. Pretty decent sized Banh Mi for $9! It had a good amount of pickled veggies as well as meat. I enjoyed the crispy toasted French roll too! Filled me for quite a while. 5/5 BBQ PORK SANDWICH ~ My bf had this and enjoyed it! I took a bite and liked the BBQ pork. It really shines in the sandwich. 5/5 Awesome sandwiches! We'll be back to try other things on the menu.

In the neighborhood, dropped by Mr. Bánh Mì at 3605 Balboa Street, cross 37th Avenue. Was in a veggie mood so items ordered today were MEATLESS! Small, no-frills takeout (no dine-in/seating) for Vietnamese banh mi, rolls, fried snacks and limited beverages. Ordering was quick and easy, questions answered patiently and nicely. Standard banh mi adds: cucumbers, cilantro, pickled carrots, daikon, Vietnamese Mayo, & jalapeños. Ordered: #6 TOFU BANH MI (DÂU HÚ) - chose this v. 7 because it had more tofu. This Banh mi was very well-balanced, filled with prepped tofu, fresh pickled veggies, Mayo and fresh slices of jalapeños! Couldn't get over the pickled julienned carrots, SO good! Could find myself asking for extra jalapeños next time. Mayo was spare but it worked for me. Flavors, veggies, bread and prepared tofu was great! Definite would order again. #19 VEGETARIAN SPRING ROLLS (GÓI CUÕN CHAY) - chock full of fresh herbs and greens, bits of tofu, slivered mushrooms, vermicelli in a rice paper wrapper. Surprise soy sauce-fish sauce-vinegar dipping sauce that I eyed warily BUT was really good. Guess the Ubiquitous peanut sauce would have overwhelmed this meatless offering. Sauce matched perfectly with the spring roll of green, herby, heavenly WOWNESS! This roll could be a light meal because it was densely packed and oh so good with each delicious bite with sauce. Easily ONE OF THE BEST Fresh Spring Rolls ever!! Now a fav go-to! Mr. Bánh Mì is Small home grown banh mi business that has its regular customers streaming in for their daily banh mi fix. The prices are fantastic: banh mi $8.95-$10.95, fresh spring rolls $8.95-10.95, fried imperial rolls & won tons $8.95, fried chicken wings $9.50, Extras: fried egg $1.50, Pate $1.00 & Vegetables $1.00. Beverages are limited to ice milk coffee and Thai tea BUT who cares?!? It's Mr. Bánh Mì! Parking can be challenging in the neighborhood but it can be done. Cannot wait to come back to try their other banh mi's especially with pate and pork, pork belly, chicken, shrimp & fish yummy goodness! See you there! Drooling...

Hello! Is this place temporarily closed? The store has not been open for more than a week.

They closed beginning with Labor Day for a two week vacation. Can't wait for them to reopen!

Does anyone know if their Imperial Rolls have Shrimp? Some places only do pork which is good for me as I'm allergic to Shrimp.

Is this place still open? It has been closed for a week or more and there is no sign indicating when they will reopen.

I'm guessing you already know the answer to this, they are still open. I was there two weeks ago.

I actually discovered Que Viet through DoorDash and had everything delivered. I ordered the Deep-Fried Imperial Rolls (Cha Gio), Grilled Chicken & Chicken Imperial Roll Garlic Noodles (Mi Top Ga Nuong Cha Gio Ga), Grilled Pork Sausage Rolls (Nem Cuon), Vietnamese Shrimp Mini Crepes (Banh Xeo Tom), and the Grilled Pork Sausage & Sliced Pork Woven Vermicelli (Banh Hoi Nem & Thit Nuong). Yes... I spent almost **$100 for two people**. Looking back at the receipt, I had to ask myself, *"Is this place expensive, or am I just fat?"* Honestly... probably a little of both. Either way, it was one of the best $100 I've ever spent. If it's your first time ordering from Que Viet, do yourself a favor and get the **garlic noodles**. I know garlic noodles are everywhere these days, but these completely changed my expectations. They were perfectly cooked with an incredible bounce, packed with rich garlicky flavor, and the portion size was generous enough for leftovers (if you have the self-control). I also tried the **Banh Hoi Nem & Thit Nuong** for the first time, and it did not disappoint. One heads-up, though: it's generously topped with crushed peanuts. My friend has a peanut allergy, so thankfully we caught it before digging in. If you have any nut allergies, be sure to mention it when ordering. Every single dish arrived fresh, flavorful, and tasted like it had just come out of the kitchen despite being delivered. That's not something you can say about many places. If you ever find yourself in the city, you **need** to make a stop at Que Viet. This place has been living rent-free in my head ever since, and I already know I'll be back the next chance I get.

Some dishes were better prepared than others, but overall, the food was solid across the board. If you enjoy making your own spring rolls, you'll love the grilled pork skewers. The pork is super tender and has such a incredible flavor profile of lemongrass, garlic, fish sauce, and more. Rolled up with the woven vermicelli noodles and fried wonton crisps in a rice paper, you get a wonderful combination of texture in a single bite. The other crowd favorite of the night was the bánh xèo -- the stuffed rice crepe. The bánh xèo here is by far the best one that I've ever had, even surpassing ones I had in Vietnam. The outside was insanely crispy and and was surprisingly not particularly oily, while the inside was loaded with fillings. Two other dishes that were well received by the group was the betel leaf wrapped grilled beef and the sugar cane shrimp. The beef had a very similar flavor profile as the pork, but the texture was a lot more lean. The shrimp had a bouncy, yet firm texture to it, and was very well-seasoned. My only qualm with the shrimp dish is that the sugarcane did not actually have any sweetness to it. There's fish sauce on the table along with a shrimp paste sauce, but to be honest, every dish we had was so flavorful on its own, the sauces aren't even needed. The only dish that we ordered that fell short was the grilled river shrimp. The presentation of the shrimp is impressive and very photogenic, but the flavor was lacking and the cook was inconsistent. Some people had shrimp that was undercooked -- borderline raw, and on the other end of the spectrum, others had shrimp that was so overcooked, that it was very difficult to remove the shrimp from the shell without completely tearing the meat. That said, everything else we ordered was well-prepared, and very tasty. Service was good throughout the meal, and I would definitely come back again for a meal with a large group. 4.5 experience rounding up to a 5.

There were plenty of tables available around 11AM on a weekend. Street parking is decently easy to find in the area. I ordered their braised duck leg noodle with wonton and ho fun. Food came out almost instantly, I was amazed by the speed. The broth was absolutely delicious!!! It tasted so homey and cozy, like just pure distilled chicken goodness. With a hit of garlic and chili oil, this is one of the best, simplest broths I've tasted in a restaurant. It is almost as good as my mom's. The wonton skins were a tad overcooked, but the meat filling was bouncy, juicy, fresh, and flavorful. Similarly, the ho fun rice noodles were a bit overcooked and broke apart easily. The duck was another high point of the meal. It was so tender it fell off the bone, and it was flavorful with plenty of meat. I love love duck, and I was impressed by the meat here. It paired nicely with the pickled veggies served alongside my bowl. I've just found my new obsession, I would eat anything paired with this beautiful, clean, clear, flavorful soup !!

The last two Saturdays in San Francisco have been not as sunny as people want them to be. One thing I always like to get in those days soup. When the sun is down I go to get Pho Ga at a Vietnamese restaurant. So I decide to pay An Chi a visit. On a weekend stroll on Geary boulevard in SF I landed at An Chi. Inside there is plenty of seating and it has an interesting and welcoming decor. The menu has everything from Banh Mi to different Buns like Bun Rieu to Bun Cha Gio Ga Nuong. I decided to get Garlic Noodle with Five Spice chicken. The noodles were like Angel hair but with a garlicky taste. I then I got the Pho Ga and the broth was tasty and it was refreshing . The noodles were fresh and chicken was tender. Overall a great place to grab Vietnamese food in SF. It feels the Fall has already "begun" when there are days in the Summer where there is barely any "sun "and some visitors and tourists get surprise and some are "stun"but you can get something warm like some some Pho along with some "bun" Go to Geary which is a boulevard and not a "street"where they serve lemon grass and bbq "meat" the Summer in SF isn't always sunshine and trying to hide from the "heat"it's also enjoying Pho and garlic noodles which are like Angel hair because An Chi is a good place to "eat"

The staff were both friendly and attentive; they even jumped in immediately to help another table with a spill, which was great to see. We ordered our usual, banh khot. Although this time it wasn't as crispy as I remembered, more fluffier this time, it still satisfied our cravings. We did have to ask for cilantro though since it didn't come with it. Also ordered the grilled pork vermicelli with egg roll. It was a big portion. It came with 2 pieces of thin but big pieces of grilled pork. The pork and dipping sauce was on the more sweeter side. Still need to try their Banh xeo next time.
