Summer is here and somedays in SF can be cloudy and some days can be sunny. The microclimates of San Francisco can vary from District to District. Some neighborhoods like the Sunset Strip of San Francisco can be overcast while the Mission can be sunny. When all of San Francisco gets some sun and the heat is on the first place you will see lines for are for Boba and Matcha for Don Juan de la matcha. What really has long lines with people of all ages is ice cream. There will also lines for soft serve ice cream. There are a few places in SF which has a soft serve machine working and it's not a McDonald's. There is place which serves bagels with cream cheese, flakey croissants and delicious sandwiches along with softserve ice cream and it's called Angelina's. On a Summer day wandering in the Outer Richmond of San Francisco I landed and Angelina's. Inside it is a deli with sandwiches with and sells bake goods like my favorite the morning buns. They also have bagels with cream cheese like some in SF. I came here for the soft serve cone. I got the vanilla and wasn't too sweet and very smooth. The cone was flakey like some in SF. A good place to land for a soft serve during the hot days. When the sun rises and it gets people out in SF when it's "69 degrees" it's not hot enough to boil an egg on side walk or melt some "cheese" so no need to go to Mc Donald's because Angelina has a working "softserve freeze" and it's so hot you will not see much hoodies just people wearing "tees" Grab a softserve but don't get your shirt messy so you can kick it with a cup like Messi and "Argentina" during the 2022 FIFA World Cup played at stadium and "arena" and the food and softserve flavor slang comparison are like wrestling because it slaps, smacks, and has a kick and slams like WWE "John Cena" so grab your soft serve in SF from" Angelina" read more

Came here and ordered an Italian sub, but I wasn't too impressed. The bread was untoasted, which made it dry and chewy. Also didn't have enough filling for the amount of bread. On the plus side, it was relatively flavorful, but not worth $15. The service was really nice, and the inside gives charming cafe. If I came back, I'd order something else. read more

Keep in mind I have been going to this deli almost since it opened up. It was a great deli. I hope Angie is have a good retirement. The service was slow and the coffee was not good. The switch to paper may have begun during the pandemic or not, I have not frequented the place in the last 5 years. But a Cappuccino in a paper cup says it all. I went by to get a sense of the place and the vibe. Neither was good. The food in the case looks the same, but I did not try it. We saw a sign outside of this cafe saying they served affogato a with soft serve ice cream. We were super intrigued after lunch and decided to come here for dessert! The actual dessert is pretty unassuming, they put 1-2 shots of espressos in a paper cup with some Straus soft serve. While the aesthetic isn't necessarily there, the espresso and soft serve do make for a really good pairing. I wish there had been a bit more espresso, but it is pretty strong and needs the soft serve to balance it out. Overall, it was a pretty simple dessert -- it didn't blow my mind but it was nice for a hot day. When I went into the deli, there were also a lot of cold salads and sandwiches available that looked yummy. I'll have to come back one day and try those as well! read more

I come here for coffee and sandwich sometimes. Honestly, pretty pricey place for the food but it's a nice treat sometimes. Today, I got their turkey cranberry and turkey bacon club:) The turkey cranberry is pretty sweet, so if you're more of a savory person, I would recommend getting something else on their menu like the turkey bacon club or egg salad sandwich. Cutesy neighborhood Cafe. Quite a few hot and cold sandwich options, snacks, and drinks (booze included) with seating at small tables outside. The food options were pretty disappointing. The pasta salads didn't look very fresh while the baked goods/cookies/breads looked like they were picked up at CostCo. The hot pastrami was well-griddled, but it was surprisingly small and the pastrami was chewy/rubbery, while the toppings were not particularly generous or flavorful. Wouldn't get food again. I want to first say I have been visiting this establishment --on and off--for more than twenty years. And today I was made to feel so unwelcome that I may never come back again I know there are many reviews here from people disappointed in the customer service, and I am truly sorry to add to them. Years ago, I used to come here all the time and the staff was very friendly and the food and coffee very good. I have great memories. I have visited a handful of times since Covid, and admittedly I did notice the staff had become a bit less friendly. But today I was treated with complete rudeness that I did absolutely nothing to deserve. Even worse, I felt embarrassed because it was in front of a friend that I recommended the place to because she had never been. I want to say that I work in customer service, food service specifically. So I always endeavor to be polite and easy to deal with when I go out. I am also not in the habit of leaving negative reviews. Today when I was walked in, there were four people behind the counter (one man and three women). No other customers in the shop or outside. I stood by the register to order. For five full minutes. At least two of them saw me. Nobody said hello, came over to take my order, or acknowledged me in any way. Even though, as I said, I was the only customer. I caught the attention of one of them and asked politely and in a friendly manner if I was standing in the correct place to order.( I was sincerely asking this). She answered in an annoyed tone "Yes. Just give her a minute!" gesturing generally towards the two other girls. I said "of course, no hurry, I was just making sure." And smiled. She did not smile back. A couple more minutes go by. Finally, the same woman I spoke to came over to the register and looked at me. I ordered my coffee drink and then tried to ask about the bagel lox and cream cheese,but barely got the word "bagel" out before she sharply said "we don't have any bagels". Ok. So I look at the menu to order something else and asked about the Italian sandwich, and also the meatball sandwich. She said, still annoyed, still not smiling "No. not the Italian" Ok. So I said, but you do have the meatball sandwich? She said yes we have a meatball sandwich. Still looking at me like she'd rather not be talking to me at all. So I say I will have that. So I pay. She doesn't say thank you and doesn't give me the receipt (takes it off the register but when I held my hand out to take it, turned away from me.) I go sit outside and wait. And wait. More customers are there now. I see a drink sitting on the counter, but nobody looks over at me or calls out my name or the drink. And the area it's sitting in has a sign that says for to go orders, so I'm not sure (?) My friend goes in and orders. Comes out with her drink and some chips. So I go in, check the name of the drink & it's mine so I take it. Still no sandwich. My friend gets her sandwich, even though she ordered after me. I wait several more minutes. Someone else picks up their sandwich. So I go in to ask-- and the same woman who took my order at the register sees me and dismissively tosses the sandwich on the counter in my direction. I go outside with it, open it up. The cheese is melted but now cold. The meatballs are cold inside and lukewarm on the outside. The sauce is lukewarm. The bread is stale. All of this for $15. (The mocha was good, at least.) I really want to continue to support this place. It's stuck around for years when so many places haven't, and I do my best to support small businesses. So I hope the owner or manager takes all the negative reviews about customer service seriously, because I am not a difficult person. Or a rude person. Like me, Angelina's owner Angie Rando had very fond memories of visiting old Italian delis with her pop when she was a wee girl. The butcher would welcome her with a slice of salami and a smile. This is what inspired her to open her own Italian-style delicatessen. (By the way, it's not as expressively Italian as Genova's in Walnut Creek or Alimento's in SF. In fact, I had to ask what style of deli they were.) Luka (son, 15) and I pulled up to Angelina's out in SF's Richmond District on a cloudy Sunday in mid-September. A quaint little spot on California Street just south of Presidio. The line was short and I got the spicy roast beef sandwich on Dutch crunch (my new favorite bread). It came adorned with horseradish-cheddar, lettuce and roasted tomatoes. The bread was stale. Tough, dry, sock-like. Plthtew. Yuck. A very disappointing experience. A waste of time, really. The cheddar horseradish combomint (condiment combo) was intriguing and might've been considered an excellent idea if it hadn't been served with stale bread. Stale bread ruins everything. It just does. The tomato also struck me as mealy and overripe until I realized that it was roasted. Because you see, since the bread was stale, I immediately assumed that all of the ingredients were on the geriatric side, too. See how that works? Nevertheless, the mushy roasted tomato didn't taste roasted... or like a tomato... or like anything at all. Luka got the Italian sub and found it to be essentially on par with a grocery store delicatessen - not special in any way. Your basic okay sandwich. As I was ordering, I was trying to chat up the counter staff and they were not having it. Too busy, please move along. Which struck me as odd, given that the owner's fond childhood memories that served as the inspiration for this deli prominently featured a counterman's smile and generosity. This got me thinking about how hard it is as a delicatessen owner to hire and train staff that will deliver memorably good customer service while making hardly more than minimum wage (delicatessen workers in California make just $32K a year on average) and being the occasional recipient of nasty, even brutish customer behavior. That can't be easy and I very much empathize. But it is imperative to crack that nut. I've looked at my personal copy of The Restaurant Manager's Guidebook (more than 1,000 pages) to see what they had to say about hiring and training and it was awfully thin on details. And what the authors did cover was pretty perfunctory. Several Yelp reviewers also commented on the blunt, cold service at Angelina's. I take negative Yelp reviews with several grains of salt, but there is a discernable pattern of one- and two-star reviews that complain about the rudeness of the staff. One said, "Staff has an attitude as if they are the customer and you are supposed to serve them." That's a far cry from Angie's own childhood Italian delicatessen experience that she said, "made me feel special for the rest of the day," You might say it was the opposite experience. What gives, Angie? But while customer service may be a weakness, Angie is shockingly good at employee retention. There was a painted sign on the window that listed off employee names and their tenure there at Angelina's. The place opened in 1983, and some of the staff had been working there for 10, 20, and 30+ years. Impressive... but then again, perhaps it's time for some of them to seek other opportunities. Angelina's serves a bunch of Italian-style and non-Italian mains, sides and salads. Chicken parm, lasagna, meatloaf, roasted vegetables and more. I got the Eggplant Napolean to go with my stale-bread sandwich and it was actually pretty decent. So there was that. They also have a big spread of candy for the kiddos and, as I said, the soft serve. read more

I have never eaten a slice of bacon from this place although every time I've ordered something, I've asked and paid for bacon. Sucks when you walk all the way home and open up your $12 bacon avo and sprouts bagel and find out it's just a bagel and cream cheese. The food here can be hit or miss. I ordered the steak sandwich, Mac and cheese, lasagna, and tuna salad. The steak sandwich and lasagna were the best. The steak sandwich had just the right amount of vinegar. The lasagna was very meaty and cheesy. The Mac and cheese was a little on the flavorless side. We stopped here after a Presidio hike. There are tables outside where you can sit and eat. You order inside and wait for your food. The staff were very friendly and food was ready quickly. Came here recently to try out their sandwiches! I can't believe I live so close but never got down to trying it! My fiance and I got everything to-go since it was during the COVID-19 Shelters in Place lockdown (a story to tell my grandchildren?!). They have a wide variety of sandwiches hot and cold, and other bakery items. I ended up getting the steak sandwich, which came with ciabatta bread and red peppers. Honestly, the steak meat quality was amazing, and they gave a pretty hefty amount of it. The cheese was melted perfectly and combined perfectly with the steak. The ciabatta bread was a good call too. However, there were no greens in the sandwich, no tomatoes, and having no veggies made me feel imbalanced afterwards....I had this weird need to eat the greens to balance out all the meat and carbs... The sandwich was on the smaller side, but I did feel full afterwards, and for many hours thereafter. I would return here, but to try their other sandwiches that are more traditional with lettuce and tomatoes, and also a sub-style sandwich, which is more of my groove. read more

I kindly said, chocolate croissant, morning bun and smart bar. She asked "one bag ok"? I said sure! Then she said "I'll put it at the counter"! Grabbed my napkins and when I went to grab the bag of pastries - I see it in the floor. I hear my boyfriend tell them "it fell, probably the wind that blew in"! So I tell her - the bag fell in the floor. And she said "what?"... I said "the bag fell on the floor and all the pastries too." She then says to me "wait a minute"! Then comes to the front and says "what did you have again?". I said "Morning bun, Chocolate croissant and the smart bar". Then she puts every thing in the bag and abrasively and rudely said "here - grab it"... I came to regret after leaving the cafe that I should not have wasted my good money for such rude service. I want to love this place. It's very cute and has a nice setup. Good location. However every time I come here it's just underwhelming. The sandwiches are basic, bread always a little stale. Salads are nothing special. Service is always fine but they are generally disinterested. Longevity can mean excellence or complacency. Sadly I think this falls into the latter bucket. Could use an update or some energy. I suppose joke's on me for coming back for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th etc times and expecting something different. They often say change is the only constant.
