It was my first time here and I had an amazing experience! The ambiance was nice and I sat outside with nice heaters next to me. The service was excellent and the waitress was constantly checking on us even though it was pretty crowded that night and even the food came out in a quick timely manner with all the busyness going on. The food was really delicious! I don't eat sushi like my friends do, but they had plenty of other options that were not sushi and it was all 10/10. I definitely recommend coming here. After a Saturday full of nothing but egg mc muffins, 5 hour energy shots, and lots of moving furniture, Hama was AMAZING. We ordered some tuna rice cake special first, and as we ate it i could see my friends slumped over tired body come to life with a big smile. It was like magic sushi! As you walk in the place is separated into two rooms. There is the sushi bar room where there are some tables, and there is another separated room that you first walk into. We sat in the sushi bar room. We had 4 rolls, all of which where fantastic. The two best where the Surf n Turf, and the Venice roll. The fish was fresh and tasty. The presentation was pretty basic and boring. No bamboo leafs or anything really to make the roll stand out other than the roll itself. The sauces where great, but not mind blowing. The sake menu was fair, but I was so exhausted all I had was a beer. I will have to go back to try more! The biggest downside, and why It wont be a regular place of mine, is the price. All of the rolls where overpriced, surf n turn being $25, and our bill totaling at $99 for 2 people. read more

Hama Sushi is a nice Japanese sushi restaurant with a good happy hour. The happy hour is only at the bar from 4pm to 7pm. They no longer serve ramen which is a bummer but I guess the new chef decided to take it off the menu. The other sushi items, edamame, gyoza among other things are priced low. They also have Japanese beer, sake and bamboo shots. The bamboo shot looks pretty cool but I didn't try it. The staff is friendly and I enjoy coming here whenever I am in Venice. The seating is split into two different sections. A more "indoor" area on the left that is by the sushi bar and then a more "outdoor" area on the right. The outdoor area is where the bar is and it has a tarp like covering that allows sunlight through. Tables are arrange for seating of four and the bar area can get pretty busy with stools for about 15 or so people. We stayed past 7 and they have a couple projectors that play video as the night goes on. The interior is lit by Christmas lights among Japanese lanterns. It was someones birthday and they made an announcement notifying the whole restaurant and then participating in song and light flashing. It was pretty neat. Hama Sushi would be one of my regular spots if Venice was my home. (Side note: The bathroom here is located in the back of the left section and it is very modern and clean.) read more

They have a very large menu which makes it a little bit hard to choose but once you find your few favorite things it's hard to beat them! Hama Sushi is the heart & soul of Venice. Its been there since 1979, so you know they're doing something right. They play surf videos projected onto the walls of the patio. The happy hour is great and their specialty rolls are to die for. I love the Green Devil roll (spicy yellowtail, jalapeno masago, and chili oil), the Venice roll (spicy tuna covered in seared tuna, onions, and jalapenos) and the Strawberry roll (shrimp tempura covered in snow crab and strawberries and an amazing sweet sauce!!!). If you want to make it for the happy hour get there early... it fills up fast! And don't forget to save room for dessert! Oh yeah, its a good idea to make reservations. They are always busy. Or if you want to hide from the crowds they do take out. read more

ZERO STARS!! I am local Venice over 16yrs. Hama Sushi sucks for service if you sit on the LEFT. The waitress ignored us every time she passed. After ordering, we received appetizer [edamame] after 20mins. ....and then 40mins later no food, i had to flag down the waitress to order another beer. This is my favorite spot...as soon as i land in LAX...i immediately get my rental car and head to this spot... The service is phenomenal...the food is excellant...and the staff is friendly courteous, knowledgeable and professional... the squid is a must have... get thr early because sometimes its sold out...the hot saki paired with the rice cake spicy tuna my tastebuds havin a party every time i partake in these festivities...the soft shell crab ummm ummm good... my husband came to visit while i was in assignment...guess where the 1st place i took him...yep right here... dont sleep on this little hidden gem...L.A. is not worth visiting if you dont come here... the locals already kno about this spot...its been around for like 30+ years...ive had the pleasure of meeting the owner very nice woman. read more

We had a great time here at Hama. Was here for a fundraiser. It got pretty crowded quickly. We got here early. Anyway, with how busy they were the staff did their best to stay on top of it. We had the goyoza and vegetable upon which were very tasty! People commented on how delicious my upon looked. The beer was nice and cold. Hope to come back soon for happy hour! read more

We get Hama once per week (or more, during quarantine we got it perhaps too often coz it just made us very happy) It is always good! Just once for take put it was a disaster out of 100 of times eating from here -one can & should be forgiving sometimes people! Our favorite is to sit at the Sushi counter & to connect w the sushi chefs, always so much more fun to be personable & have it handed to you right from the Sushi Chef himself. Try the blacked Sea Bass, sashimi sampler, the Hamachi Kama, Uni Sushi, seafood dumplings & Salmon Collar aswell. They are extremely busy, especially on wknds, so make reservations otherwise go during the week if you want to beat the crowds. read more

Hama used to be perfection, but lately, when you order food for delivery, they always fail to include things like chopsticks, soy sauce, ginger and wasabi. Maybe one has to pay extra for such things? Not sure, but it's odd that their customer service has dwindled so much in the past few months. Sad actually. It's like they're becoming the Olive Garden of Japanese fare. Food was fresh and delicious! Love the spicy edamame-yum! They still make one of the best salmon skin hand rolls.apparently hard to get right without the salmon being rubbery or too burnt. Just went back to Hama post Covid and had a great outdoor dining experience. The food did not disappoint. Spanish Mackeral to die for. IMO with quails egg. Plus all the standard sushi cuts of salmon, tuna, etc at the highest quality. An overflowing cup of the house sake out of the bamboo pitcher makes the world seem normal again. Great service. Sushi was super yummy! We had the Red Devil (spicy but with a good flavor), california roll (very fresh, rice cooked perfectly), and the special - spicy tun tempura (a light tempura layer on a yummy spicy tuna). We also got miso soups (good), and the veggie gyoza (cooked perfectly!). The service was excellent and our green tea was always topped up. We opted for dessert at the end and had the green tea ice cream and the banana dessert. Oh man... the banana dessert was delish... I could have had two of them. Great place to visit when I enjoy leaving the South Bay area. The food is always tasty and delicious and I can even watch the games on their renovated patio section. Their menu is extensive and the price well fits the area of Venice. The staff is always wonderful and on my last visit, their waitress Erina went above and beyond her customer service by answering all of our questions and providing us with excellent service! The outdoor patio is nice and the restaurant keeps a good social distance from each table. Staff is friendly and helpful. Sushi was good but nothing really stood out. Long history and you can see the Venice sign from the restaurant. Other than that, this place is quite overpriced. The sushi is fine, but they charge a premium. Sushi Enya down on Washington blvd is the same price, but way better quality. I'm not sure what my incentive is to come here next time. read more

I wanted to give this place 4 stars I really did. The pictures look great. It's in a good location easy to walk to the beach and watch the sunset at night after dinner. But the food service atmosphere take it down to a 3. And here's why. An avid sushi eater. So I give every place a fair shot. Fancy or not I'll try it. So to start the place has fancy prices for a low budget restaurant. Most Rolls 17-30. Any roll that was 8-14 was one fish and only 6 pieces. The had great sounding appetizers but we didn't order any causeeee we wanted the holy hour prices and oh of course you can only get the happy hour at the bar? The bar holds like 12 people and the rest of the patio and indoor hold probably 100? So I was like well that's some Tom fooolarieee right there. Basically only go if you are going to go for their happy hour cause the sush ain't good enough to go for the prices. On top of the service being really slow. We ordered three roles all at once and the last one came out 15 minutes after the first two? Edemame was barely salted. But the rolls we tried were: spider, crunch and salmon/avacado. All were good! Very basic. Decor is cool movies that were filled locally in Venice. Not fancy. Any attire goes! Casual dinner for friends. read more
