Sadly, I tried Hama Sushi for the first time on a busy Friday night Postmates order. I will always wonder if their food is really that bad in person. Paid almost $100 for two salad size plates of meh quality sushi. It was so disappointing to wait for over an hour, have the wrong items show up, and get what looked like the kitchen leftovers from the week delivered. Of course Postmates also has THE worst customer service platform that basically shuts down if you make the slightest peep that you were unhappy. I haven't been able to leave the house much due to covid 19 and the protests going on, but I happened to be In the Venice area for something and I hadn't stopped by Hama sushi in a minute so I decided to order takeout. They're not offering dine in for the moment, but their takeout service is available and pretty quick too! I had my 2 year old asleep in the car, so when I arrived Tony ( who I believe is the manager) brought my food out to my car for me so I didn't have to take my son out of his car seat. Tony made sure to read back my order to me and ensured there were enough utensil, wasabi and soy sauce inside and sure enough there was! Thank you again Hama for my sushi fix! Hama Sushi is great. It has been there for years now. It was one of the first nice places to eat when Venice started to "upscale" itself. Hama Sushi has seating inside and a semi-outdoor area (covered) as well as a sushi bar. The sushi bar is super fun and you just order from the sushi chef. Everything is great, it is fresh and yummy. Their hot plates are wonderful, if they have crab (seasonal) get it--it is fried heaven. Hama Sushi is not large and can get crowded on the weekends so give a call, I think they still take reservations. Parking is by valet. You can park on the street but mind those parking signs. The service is super fun and great. They go out of their way to make you happy and happy you will be. Welcome to Venice. read more

Hi. My name is Jaime and I'm addicted to sashimi. Thus, I'm highly judgmental when it comes to sashimi. This place has really small sashimi cuts. :( I came with a friend and there were open tables but they said they were booked and the wait would be 30 mins or so. We pointed to a small table and asked if we could just sit there. Turns out they weren't that busy and were able to seat us right away. Kind of got a "we're trying to be one of those exclusive, in demand west side sushi places" kind of a vibe from this. Service was slow, but on a positive note: the red devil is actually quite spicy. As a spicy food expert, this roll has my endorsement. It's soooo tasty and has just the right amount of kick to it. Would come back to give service a second chance. read more

I've frequented Hama for dinner a handful of times over the past 4-5 years and have had a good experience every time. I typically don't write reviews, but this review about a recent delivery experience felt warranted. I ordered delivery via the UberEats app today - dinner for 5 hungry people. Only half the order arrived and UberEats didn't do anything about it except offer a refund for half the missing items. The restaurant called me - the driver didn't pick up 1 of the 2 bags - and was super apologetic. They asked for my address, and had one of the Hama staff personally deliver the rest of our order within 10 minutes. The food was still hot, and they made UberEats' mistake right. We were in Venice tonight and spotted Hama Sushi was open and there were chairs outside. They sat us immediately- and didn't mind our dogs were with us. The waitress was lovely and the entire staff was completely prepared for serving us. The food was excellent. I'm a vegetarian and the waitress suggested the veggie roll. Jesus, it was AMAZING! Has she told me it was $20 I would have passed. But I'm so glad I didn't know the price. Totally worth it. There cold unfiltered saki was delish. It was so nice to be out and actually eating in a restaurant. Congrats to the whole Hama team - a job well done. We felt so comfortable. We'll be back. read more

Pleasant surprise! Seems pretty much like a locals place but outsiders are welcome. The neon sign outside worried me, but the service and food pretty much delivered. The bento boxes are something I look forward to every year when the owner Esther supports the VJAMM monument. I love their happy hour and any time. Great place for lunch, happy hour and dinner. I recently did a delivery for my anniversary dinner which was a big hit. EVERYTHING was so fresh and yummy even in these Corona times. Yellowtail sashimi, lobster something roll, edemame,and a few special rolls...moderately prices and the owner/family management is what makes this 20+ community proud business a real Venice gem. Ordered takeout here with my parents for a night in on a Saturday. Picked up the order and got home and realized two items were missing. Called them and they were very apologetic. Since it was so busy and they couldn't send us our missing items they ended up refunding our whole order which was very nice of them! -- favorite item which I always get is their Beef and Onion Udon noodles. read more

This place was pretty good. I got two rolls, the dragon roll and the strawberry roll. Honestly? Pretty good. The dragon roll has eel on it and I'm not a huge fan but it was good, nonetheless. Could've had it without the eel tbh. The strawberry roll was sooooo good, I'm from the central coast, and they weren't central coast strawberries lol but still pretty great! I came here because it was rated high. I realize post covid things are tough. But this was such horrible service I would never recommend. Cold edamame that had been waiting for ever. A waitress that was only visible three times. At a sushi restaurant I want to keep ordering more food after I finish. I had three orders that took 1+ hours. The worst part was the food was good. I believe this place has the most greatest atmosphere ever !! You walk right in and damn you just feel the energy of the crowd , driven, passionate, and just fun and crazy people!! This place does get crowded but it is great when it is and you get to have amazing delicious sushi! I use to never eat sushi but now I just can't stop myself from eating at amazing places. This is one of those places, where everyone should go and try at least once. I've heard from a worker that Shaq, Phil Jackson and others have been to this place. Amazingly this place looks like a dive bar or something nasty from the looks of it outside, but once you walk in, it is like your in a different place with great service and everything you could imagine. Our party had a crunchy crab roll, tuna, white tuna, salmon sashimi. All were great delicious pieces that melted in your mouth when you ate them. Mmmmm...Just thinking about it makes me want to go here again. A drawback is that you will get a big hole in your wallet after. It is a little bit on the pricey side and I wouldn't really recommend this place if you are starving and haven't eaten for days.
