their menu is simple - meat, turkey or chicken burger, fries, drink. the customers are spoiled. complaining and moaing about the wait. its like DUDE look at the line out the door, the wait is going to be long. live with it and shut up or dont eat here. there is no seating here. we took our bugers to the park and sat on the grass with the dog. it was a really nice day. my turkey burger with cheese was overall pretty good. i think the bun is a bit thick but i can see how any smaller bun would not hold everything. the patty is larger than in n outs. therefore the larger bun. and its flambroiled. you can watch the rotating grill from the window outside. he grills and sprinkles seasoning. pours water on the flames. repeats. maybe they can clean the window? i cant see. haha the fries are pretty good when you eat them fresh. very crispy on the outside. soft on the inside. read more

TOURIST TRAP!!! DON'T EAT HERE! We were dropped off on a tour in Sausalito to eat. There aren't many restaurants around for a modest budget or time. We were told about the hamburger place as an option by our tour guide. They wanted us on the bus in an hour. It seemed like a simple system, order 4 hamburgers,fries, drink. They only do burgers. How hard could that be? We thought the line out the door meant they must be good. It wasn't. It was a BAD experience. The line was only because there was absolutely no standing room inside. We'll, we ordered, paid, and left. Once outside we realized they forgot one of our burgers and overcharged us. My wife went inside to settle. The cashier was rude and argued that they gave her the right order. My wife tried to teach them simple math, but they wouldn't budge. I don't think they cared about anything but getting money, and to hell with any kind of common sense or customer service. We demanded our money back and the cashier cursed us in his language. I really had to restrain myself from beating the little pipsqueak. So we left. Long story short... STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM HAMBURGERS IN SAUSALITO AS YOU CAN. We arrived hungry but found a nice sandwich shop around the corner. Heck the entire town is supported by naive tourists. Be armed. DON'T EAT HERE! The only thing special about this place is the rotating grill at the window of the place. You can't even choose how you want your meat cooked. The rotating grill makes the meat juicy, but I like my burger to be a bit pink in the center. The thick wavy fries were cooked perfectly. There is a sit down place all the way in the back, I think the maximum amount of ppl can be 6-8 ppl. It is very cramped, if there is a big group of ppl you're with, someone will have to order for all of you guys. I might come here again if I was in the area... but who knows.... Yes, they make hamburgers here. Awesome, juicy pieces of perfection that you can watch being grilled right in front of your eyes. I recently moved over to Sausalito from SF and I was glad to find a little hole in the wall so close to home that A) was affordable B) Not too tourist oriented and C) Actually very tasty. But what makes me most happy about this place is the fact that they also turn out some pretty decent burritos. Yes, burritos. They grill the steak pieces right alongside those hamburgers. Then they chop it up and roll it up with some beans, rice, cheese and veggies. Good salsa, too. It's not taqueria fast, because they grill everything to order, but the taste is worth the wait. Pretty much the only thing I miss about living in the City is the proximity to excellent mexican food. And so far, a burrito from Hamburgers seems to fill the void nicely. read more

I was not impressed with this place. I remember coming to this place as a kid and really enjoying watching the spinning grill. in retrospect, that was probably the best aspect of this place. It is a tough place to find, and if you are lucky enough to get a table, be sure to wear your coat. It's cold in there. The burger itself was fair. It was cooked over a charcoal grill, and made with good beef. It is a pretty standard burger with all the standard trimmings. Ordering is very quick. Waiting for the burger is not. Even at 11:30 on the day before Christmas Eve, it took forever. I even considered running back to the meter to add more time. When i got the burger, well, it looked like what you think a burger should look like. Sesame seed bun, fresh lettuce, tomato, etc. The thing is is the bun is so big and substantial, that it takes away from the actual taste of the burger. I guess the term would be that the bun was too bready. I'm not looking for carbs when i sit down to eat a burger. I felt I got more bread than actual burger here. The fries were actually the best part of the meal. Crinkle cut fries does perfectly, though it's not like they are hand cut anything. It gets the job done for a burger and fries, but between the time from order to table, the issues with the actual burger, and the freezing hole in the wall atmosphere, I'd pass on this place. read more

We tried this place when we were in Sausalito on Sunday Labor Day weekend. The place has a rotating grill they cook the burgers on which is pretty cool and attracts lots of attention. The restaurant has a very tight entry way with a mass of people lined up. If you go just ask if they are waiting on food or to order. In most cases you can squeeze in and place an order. The attendant will tell you your number than you stand around and wait for your order number to be called. It's not the best system but it works. The burger itself is very large. In many cases a couple can split a single order and be fine. They have a sign up somewhere in the shop that say's they use only premium beef from local growers. My burger pretty much lived up to all the hype I had heard about this place. The burgers here are pretty simple - even with all available fixin's on top - but very filling (I highly recommend ordering with cheese). They serve some other kinds of sandwiches here but why bother with anything besides their burgers? The fries are just average but served in generous portions. They are open only from 11 to 5 I believe, they have a very tiny, dark, and un-charming dining area with just a few seats, you will definitely want to do carry-out if you can. I'm not sure that I'd recommend going out of my way to eat here, but if you are in Sausalito anyway, Hamburgers offers one of the better values in the area for a simple & filling meal. read more

The first time my family and I visited Sausalito back in the early '90s, we caught the whiff of juicy grilled meats from afar and followed our noses to Hamburgers. With our faces pressed to the window providing a view of the rotating grill, we waited hungrily for our burgers to be served. Twelve years later, with a seven-thousand-mile move, middle school, high school, another seven-thousand-mile move, and college under my belt, I visited Sausalito again, making a point of retracing those footsteps made so many years back. I biked over from San Francisco and only had enough time to grab a quick bite to go before catching the ferry back and this seemed like a good bet. I have no idea what the point of having a spinning grill is other than advertising but we placed our order and hugged the wall waiting for our burgers. As we waited a few other people trickled in and tried to make small talk with the staff but you could tell they weren't interested. When our order was up we grabbed it, got to the ferry and ate it on the boat ride back. I admit, there was maybe a 30 minute gap between cooking and eating but the burger tasted dried out and reminded me of a burger I had recently had at an army base . . . in east Africa . . . thousands of miles from the nearest cow. One of the best places to eat a burger in the bay area. The only problem is the long line at the entrance but you can avoid it if you call them, place the order and arrive later just to pickup. Note there is almost no room to sit inside. I normally take my order and eat it by the sea side. The amazing views make the tase feel even better :-) read more

What's the word for the opposite of claustrophobia? Claustrophilia? Anyway, unlike most, I tend to enjoy small spaces. I prefer small cars, tiny apartments, airplane bathrooms, etc. This must be one of the reasons I liked Hamburgers- the place is tiny! The line out the door is usually an indication of quality food, and this place doesn't disappoint. The burgers are good. Not creatively fantastic, but tasty and juicy. Definitely a step above fast food, but not gourmet either. After riding my bike from SF, the turkey burger I had definitely got the job done. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the location. Overall, next time I'm in the area and craving a burger on a park bench, I'll stop again. read more

I was just passing through Sausalito to shop and take some pics while visiting San Francisco. I found this gem stone of a fast food take out restaurant on the north east side of earthly heaven. Once entering the minuscule establishment I did not expect to walk out of this place with the food for the gods. I was impressed when I saw the sign that informed me the chicken was free range and organic. I ordered one of my favorites BBQ chicken sandwich with fries. I walked over to the bay/docking area to sit down and eat while looking over the beautiful water. I have to say I had the best fries and barbecue chicken sandwich in years if not ever. Hamburgers is a small shop across from the ferry that always has a line out the door whenever I walk by. The wait from order to burger is about 10-15 minutes since they make it after you order it and there normally is a queue. The workers are a bit grumpy but I'm certain it also comes from dealing with the tourist crowd that makes it way through Sausalito every day. The burgers themselves are okay. They're definitely edible but there is nothing too special about them. The buns are packed with seseme which I'm not too keen on and their fries reminds me of something you get from the hot lunch in elementary school. Our tour bus driver recommended this place to us as we arrived in Sausalito. It was a very shameless product plug as I think they get free burgers for helping bring in customers. But you know what? Doesn't matter... it was totally delicious! I haven't had a "real" burger in a long time. This place hit the spot and I'm still salivating. It was a simple burger (no exotic ingredients), but sometimes simple is best. It was so tasty. Their ordering system is pretty cool too. They write down your order on the paper that they will use to wrap your burger. Then down the assembly line it goes and by the time your burger is ready (you can watch it cooking on the rotating grill), you pay and are out the door. It was a bit of a wait to get our burgers, but that just attests to the freshness of it all. We took our burgers down the street to the little park and had ourselves a nice delicious picnic. We came into Sausalito on a bike ride. I was gonna eat at Sushi Ran, but found out they were closed for lunch. We saw a crowd at this little hole in the wall place and thought why not give it a try. The menu is pretty simple. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers. Here are the reasons for my 1 star rating: 1. The manager asks my fiance to leave while we're waiting in line for our food and to pay. He screams only one customer per order. What the heck difference does it make? We saw a family ahead of us all standing together, I doubt they placed individual orders. Customer service sucks. 2. Their burgers aren't very good. A couple comments said that this is what they would find at a bbque. I would agree, because the meat was soooo bland. I could make this using costco meat!!! 3. Customer service sucks again. Manager incorrectly charges us after I looked at the receipt. We did not order fries. We tell him about it, and he gets upset but hey we didn't order it. Awful customer service. We've been coming here for years, but recently their customer service has been awful. We got here at 4:35, they close at 5. First of all they didnt want to take our order, then they didnt want to put lettuce and tomatoes on our burgers. We asked for tap water, they charged us $10 for 4 cups of TAP Water! WTF! After a recommendation from our Tour guide we stopped here and the experience from start to finish was just pure disappointment. Order needed to be done in a 20 second time frame and me being new I had no idea what all went on the burger. After they pointed out the pamphlet I had another 10 seconds (if even that) to decide what I didn't want and the lady was just rushing me. Ended up with a Picante Burger with everything on it and a Hawaiian Burger with the same. I love burgers, and in Sasulito that they charge an arm and a leg for even a glass of water this is the place to go. First of all don't panic when you see the long line. The line moves fast, and it is so worth it. With the smell of burgers, and watching the round grill (the whole time you are waiting in line!!) you be pretty damn hungry by the time you get your order. The meat is fresh, free of hormones, and no preservatives. How awesome is that?? The burgers are big, and get it with cheese is the only way. The fries are really crispy and yummy, one bag is enough for two people. Another thing that they offer and you may not think to try but you should, is their veggie burrito!!! it is HUGE!!! and sooooooo yummy. nothing like any one had before. I say, get a burger and burrito and share it! (or Not!) This is really the only place to eat in Sasulito, and so worth it. There isn't much room inside to sit, so plan on finding another place to sit and eat your juicy burger. The location is really nice...Sausalito is a small cozy little bayside town. The place may be a little difficult to find while your driving...if you've passed the fountain in the little park area (going towards the GGBridge), you've gone too far.... it'll be on your right hand side. Just look for the rotating grill in the front window. If you want well done you're going to have to ask for it because all the burgers are made medium-well. There are two stops that I also go to in Sausalito. Lappert's ice cream, and hamburgers. Although the name of this place is fairly simple, the hamburgers at hamburgers are pretty gosh darn good. Def a touristy place to eat, since we are a culture that's drawn to standing in line. But I do enjoy the hearty burgers here, they cook it on this rotating grill that's over a fire, you can see the cheese melting on the patties, as the patties cook on the fire and feed the fire with drops of oil that fall from the glistening patties. Super fast turn around so you'll be damned if you get a luke warm burger here, their fries portion sizes are pretty big, I ate with a big group and everyone was able to share fries and still have some left over. The smell and the window display of sizzling hand shaped patties really caught my attention here. I mean... honestly, at a place called "hamburger" how can it be bad, right? I was a feast for the eyes. A mom and pop shop in the charming strip of Sausalito. The burger is hand shaped and cooked at medium well. Topped with some mild Danish cheese and the works and you have yourself a big bad juicy burger. Add a bag of fries and you are good to go. I would have liked the burger to be seasoned a bit better, however the anticipation of watching your burger be made just makes you hungrier and hungrier. You first eat with your eyes, right? Everytime I've come by this place, I was lucky enough to get there a minute before the line went out the door. It's a small unassuming joint, that barely has enough space to walk by each other side by side. Inside there are about 2-3 tables and not many more chairs. The burgers were actually pretty good! I've had the cheeseburger and turkey burger. Both are good options. You can just see it cookin' from the outside window on a turntable that just goes around and around. You're best bet is to order to go, take it across the street and enjoy the rest of the city. When I want to mix it up when I'm downtown, I'll drop by here, but it's not a place I crave. read more

Granted, the food options in Sausalito area a bit limited, and mostly tend to be expensive, so it would seem that a tasty little hole-in- the-wall fast-foodish burger place would do well... Yet, it is now my conclusion that this place does well only because it appears to be good (lines out the door), it appears to be fast (just grab a quick 20 minute burger to go?), and it appears to be inexpensive (my cheeseburger and fries without drink were just under $10.00, not a fortune but still way too much for a bad burger) For my taste, time, and money I have to admit that In and Out has a way better thing going on. Next time I have a burger craving, and want to enjoy the sunshine and tourist scene in Sausalito, I'll get an In and Out burger, fries, and drink to go and I'll still have a little left over to grab an ice cream cone at Lappert's for dessert! I was mesmerized. I couldn't look away. There it was...just turning around and around and around. The open-flame grill right in the window store front. A rotating grill, that's pure genius! 2 words: THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED! I tried to think of all the reasons why I got stuck with such a bad cheeseburger, when everyone else gave them such high reviews. Perhaps because I went on a weekday, so the cooks must of been different? Or perhaps I didn't have to wait in line, so I wasn't starving by the time I got there? Still, none of that made any sense. Sure, I went on a random Tuesday, at an obscure 4:30PM in the afternoon. But I remember my patty being the ONLY thing on that grill. I had 3 employees devoted to my one cheeseburger, yet they still couldn't do it right! In addition, I didn't have to wait in line, so I wasn't standing there, marinating in the thought of "this burger better be worth it!" So even with my low expectations, my cheeseburger tasted overcooked and dry (even though they added ketchup and mayo to it). Not to mention, I asked them to take it off the grill early too, because I like my meat medium rare. In conclusion, NOT worth the ~$7 (and yes, that's JUST for the hamburger with the standard lettuce, tomato, onions). I would much rather have had an In-and-Out burger... it was that bad.
