THE FOLKS AT HAMILTON'S ARE LIFESAVERS! Coming from 2 hours away on a road trip, my Prius decided to pop its famous "red triangle of death," alongside the check engine and multiple other lights on the dash. I found myself stuck in Novato with a car that was suddenly in a state of "get this to a mechanic ASAP." Diagnosed as P0A93 at the local O'Reilly's, failed inverter pump. It being Saturday, I expected little to be open. Hamilton's was not only open, but had the original part that I needed, had availability to fix it same-day, and quoted market rate for the fix. No hassle, no upselling, I brought my vehicle in and they had it ready in barely an hour and a half! I was thoroughly impressed with the quick and fair-priced service. These guys are great! Had a bad afternoon picking up a nail in the jeep tire, boo. Stopped at Big O Tire Novato and they were too busy to repair OR replace and said we could try to hang around until closing to see what they could do, but more than likely not. Called Toscalito Tire for the same, no answer. Made a wrong turn on the Redwood Blvd and ran smack into Hamiltons, we gave it a shot. WOW! These guys are amazing! After we moved to Novato in 2021 I found them mainly because they were there only ones who carried used tires that I needed and on top of that were able to pick up and deliver my car. I got very lucky because it's hard to know when you can rely on good and honest car service but with Hamilton's Auto everyone was very responsive and caring and offered very quick and through service. I used them again yesterday to get all my tires replaced this time with new tires. They weren't able to price match but they said it was ok to order online and have them delivered to their shop. They called me as soon as the tires arrived and were able to pick up and bring back my car again. They also let me know that my rear brakes needed to be replaced soon so they definitely went above and beyond both times on very short notice. I'm glad I'll be counting on them for a long time to come! read more

We had an awful experience with Hamiltons Automotive. My son brought his car for service. After two visits they were still unable to fix the issue. The price was more than double what another shop eventually charged us. The icing on the cake was the other shop found a cracked axel with a zip tie holding it in place. This was damage was caused by Hamilton's Automotive! They didn't tell us and only found out about it from our new mechanic. They then admitted it. Unbelievable. They gave us a partial refund but still demanded labor payment. Stay away from this incompetent shady business at all costs!!!! The owner who was not in town is the worst. Overall, I didn't have the most satisfying experience in my work with Hamilton's Automotive. I had to get an IID installed in my Tesla and they're one of the only shops which can do it locally in the Bay Area at this time. The cost of the install seemed to feel like they're taking advantage of the customer and charging a rate for labor that's otherwise at a premium. When they described how to use the system I had to follow a series of steps such as opening the car, then going in and manually shutting the Tesla down and waiting for a few minutes for the IID and then blowing once it told me to so that I could get a pass and it would say start the car. It seemed like a pain in rear to have to wait a few minutes every time to start the car, but I proceeded nonetheless as I felt like I had zero options available to me at this point. They described that this was a method to "prevent violations" and when giving me the packet told me that with any concerns over the bill, etc that I needed to call the provider of the IID and not them. They seemed to make it clear that there were lots of problems with past customers and billing issues and they weren't the ones responsible for this I also paid them $450 to install the device in my car which seems quite steep for something like this (traditionally getting one of them installed is at a cost of LESS than $200). In the first few days of driving the car it would regularly beep when I got into the car and the first thing I would see was a message that said "missed test". So, I blow as it was asking me to, then also simultaneously shut down the car manually and wait for about three more minutes or so to try and blow again to finally get it to say "PASSED" so I could start my car. Then, a few days later I get into the car and try to do the normal procedure and it says "LOCKOUT VIOLATION 3". I proceed to call the IID provider who schedules me an appointment at Hamiltons. At my first violation appointment they asked me some questions about using it and I explained that I had followed their process and I had no idea what had caused this violation notice. I was concerned that it was the missed tests. When they ran a quick diagnostic on the machine it said the violation was linked to tampering with the car/device. I then was concerned that perhaps my foot had hit the brake and also wondered if that at one time I had opened the trunk or door or something to get something out of my car (laptop or workout bag) perhaps that had done it. They told me to keep my legs out of the car until I had done the whole procedure as a cautionary way to make sure that it didn't cause an additional violations which caused the lockout. They charged me and I was on my way. Note: Section removed over text limit. Well, like literally a couple days later it says "VIOLATION 3"...rinse and repeat. A couple of days later I called to tell them that I would be getting the new car and so I wanted to have it removed and so I could then have it installed the next day on my other car. Even though I explained that I wanted to swap it for cars, when I went to have it removed they charged me $298 (though I was told by the IID company I shouldn't be charged for a removal but a car swap which was less). It took approximately 45 minutes of time to do the removal. I don't think that they're complete crooks. Rather, opportunistically they as an install shop of these devices and the IID company have a convenient thing of each of them pointing the finger at the other and saying please deal with them/it's their pricing, etc. At the end of the day I know this much, not once was I not charged for something though I clearly had stated that the device and technology in use of a Tesla wasn't working properly. In a little over a month I paid Hamiltons about $900 for not that much time and labor and not a single piece of equipment (ie a part that ever stayed with my car such as a repair, etc). Relatively speaking, I think that the costs were unreasonable for the labor provided and because the IID is something where you're required to get one they feel it appropriate to take greater advantage of these customers as compared to someone with greater choices as a consumer. read more

PANIC set in as the daughter was moving to Sacramento for UCD Med school and had just quit her job (broke) and moving in the morning. These guys were open till 7pm, a rarity. Got it in right away, they ran all over town finding a shoulder bolt. Did an oil change too, all done in about an hour. Labor rates reasonable Friendly Quick Suggested possible tweaks from the internet for Honda control arms. On site detailing available 3 locations - I visited 7401 Redwood behind Enterprise Rent-a-car off First Street. English and Espanol spoken Con - yard is messy, overlook it and you'll get good service. I do not recommend this automotive as they are very money hungry here. I come in the 10th of February, to get an alignment with these guys due there good rating they so how have here on yelp. I talk to a man and ask for an alignment and we agreed on a price and how long it would take and then asked for my keys which I gave upon request. Then I sit down at the chairs which they have in the lobby area. One of his co workers come up to me and asks me for the keys and I told him that I gave my keys to his coworker that I talk too. Then the guy I talked to comes and tells me that I didn't give him the guys. I come to find out these guys left my keys by a microwave where I found it due to there lack of care. When everything was done I go home and drive the car. Literally within the span of 1 week my steering wheel was off center. I asked if they can fix it and these guys told me that I need to bring it in. When I do these guys up charged me another 80 dollars for the aliment. In total I ended up spending 200+ dollars on the aliment alone. Don't come here I would recommend Able tires literally down the street much nicer crowd and very friendly highly recommend!!!!! read more

Had an issue with my car a few days ago. Every time I got out my car my brake lights would stay on and drain my battery.I went to one automotive shop and they closed right before I got there, I went to another and they were closing and told me to come back the next day. I never did because I went next door to Hamilton's Automotive and was greeted by Leo. He was awesome and he inspected and fixed my car on the spot! Unfortunately after 5-7 minutes of driving my car was driving very strong and the brake pedal was tight. I figured this was something that happens after getting the car fixed and I would have to drive it a little more for it to get better. I let my car rest for a few hours and then had to drive again. The problem started again, I couldn't go pass 40 mph and an area around both my front tires started to smoke! I pulled over at a gas station and let it cool off. It smelled like burned rubber. I eventually was able to go back home safe and waited to call the shop the next day. As I dropped one of my children off the next day the issue happened again and I eventually could not go pass 5mph and it felt like my brakes were on the verge of locking up. I called the shop and Leo sent a technician to my location, luckily I was 5 mins away. He loosened up something under my brake pedal and I was able to drive normal. I went to the shop and Leo did some more work along with his team. I ended up getting a new battery as well to be on the safe side. I give this story to show that Leo and his team at Hamilton's Automotive worked hard and diligent to fix a problem in a professional, timely manner.
