"The team you trust" -- with this slogan, I would have thought there would be some professional value placed on trust. We had a series of untrustworthy events with our service here. 1- we utilized the online appt system. We indicated the tires we would like to purchase and selected an appointment time a few days into the future. We received a confirmation email saying all details would work. We arrive and are informed that the tires were not in stock and we'd have to go with a more expensive option. This was my first red flag. Why were we not called and informed before bringing in the vehicle? 2- we decide to move ahead with the more expensive tires, because at that point, we didn't have options and needed tires before the weekend. The invoice quote is now $1100 instead of $750, which is confusing. My partner tries to understand the difference and the salesperson continually deflects and talks about the great deal he's getting. Since I made the appointment and my partner brought in the vehicle, the discrepancy is not fully understood til after service is completed. This is on us as well, but just because you CAN take advantage of someone, doesn't mean you SHOULD. Right? 3- my partner verbally declined tire protection plan and "free alignment for 1 year." He distinctly remembers verbally declining both, multiple times. The projected invoice he ultimately signed had the tire protection plan removed from the top, so he signed it. He did not catch that the "free alignment for 1 year" was still on the invoice, tucked in below, for 179.99. Again, our fault for not catching this-- but also, "the team you trust." We mistakenly trusted that they removed the service we verbally declined multiple times. 4- I go to pick up the vehicle. They give me the packet of invoice, recommended services, alignment page. It's a lot of info, and they talk at me continuously so that I can't fully focus and read it. They make a big show of taking off $100 "just for me" and "such a good deal" (but that was always the advertised promotion). So much theatrics into making the total $1000 instead of $1100. Over the top assurances about the tire quality, even though I didn't question it, unrelated over the top compliments about my vehicle, talking talking talking. Lots of warnings about the recommended services, "safety hazards," imperative fixes. I decline them all because I'm already paying hundreds more than we planned, and I can't afford it. They emphasize how dangerous it is not to fix the recommended services. Feels weird. I decline again, say I'll check with my mechanic, and pay quickly just to get out of there. I regret that; but fool me once, shame on you. Won't happen again. 5- I take the paperwork and my vehicle to my mechanic. He looks at every single recommendation and physically shows me how ALL the recommendations are exaggerated and unnecessary. No safety hazards at all. He shares that he's had several customers recently coming from Big O with similar experiences-- the fear mongering is happening to others, not just me. 6- My mechanic said, did you agree to this? This "free alignment for 1 year" for 179.99? I'm like, what? We declined that. He shows me where it's listed on the invoice. I feel so stupid and frustrated. 7- I visit the Big O and calmly share all of the above with the employee, who is the same employee who took payment previously. He takes the paperwork and disappears for 20 min. He returns, abruptly shows me the invoice signed by my partner, and says "he agreed to it." I calmly reiterate that he had verbally declined, and brought up the concept of trust, and valuing a customer. The employee storms away into the back room. He refused to even address the part about exaggerated recommended services. All this happened in front of 5 other current/prospective customers. Overall, in addition to the fact that I personally feel dehumanized and disrespected, I find each facet of this situation to be unwise business. I am surprised at the complete lack of effort to repair or compensate the customer relationship. read more

Went to the tire shop for a nail in my wheel. Was quoted $60. After looking at it I was told that I needed to replace my tire and should get all four tires replaced for $$$. I broke the AC compressor suction line on my Prius 2006. It only needed a new suction line and a recharge of refrigerant. Big O wanted $986.48 for this. I went around the corner to DNA Automotive and had that exact work done for $494.74 - literally half of Big O's estimate. It's one thing to not be competitive, but an estimate that runs twice the cost of another similarly reputable repair chain is quite another thing: it crosses solidly into predatory pricing. Whether that attempt is successful or not (and it was certainly not in my case) doesn't matter; that a business even _tries_ to do that is extremely bad mannered. Buyer beware! read more

I had a slow leak on my Audi Q7 right rear Tire. I have 22 inch tires for more road hugging. It was pouring down buckets of rain and I stopped by the local Big O Tire Store here in Novato. The owner Jorge said, "we can handle that now Kevin". Great and gave him the keys and I was about to run back to my insurance office 3 long blocks away in the rain. Jorge asked, "Would you like a ride back to work". Now that is going above and beyond the call of duty. I picked up my car two hours later and the Tire has been working great for the past month! I don't know about their tires but beware for the brakes. Big O seems to 'need' to 'replace' more brake calipers than any other company. They told me the calipers were gone, that they would need to be replaced and the total would be $1500.00. I called my 5 star mechanic for his estimate - when he heard the word caliper, he asked - Big O? I had considered Big O because I didn't want tot drive to Larkspur with the faulty brakes. I was fine. My 5 star automotive repair shop fixed it within hours. The bill was $700. It never needed a new front right caliper. read more

Big Joke, not Big O. Horrible service. I made an appointment online to get a simple tire rotation. I sat there for an hour and half, listening to one employee on the phone trying to figure his PGE bill out, another out front talking to his friend on a motorcycle, while me and another customer just sat there. When I first arrived they told me it would be 30 minutes. 90 minutes later, when nothing had happened, I got my keys and left. I asked the guy who pulled my car out why they couldn't get any work done, and he didn't speak a stitch of English. I couldn't understand a word he said. There's a lot of places in Novato to get tire service. I would strongly recommend looking at any other place than this. My family will never go back. This tire company endangered my life by ensuring me that the tire they supposedly repaired and sent me on my to Sacramento, and literally 5min after leaving their store, on the freeway, that exact tire blew. I almost got hit by oncoming traffic, had to pull over on the side of the highway at night and change a flat tire. I'm a woman in my 50s, and I had a slow leak, and just to ensure I would get home safely my husband who has been a Big O customer for years, told me to go there and get it repaired. I honestly could have just put more air in and made it home. Jorge seemed nice and their team "repaired" it he said. I don't think they did. It blew instantly the minute I got on the freeway. I brought it back to him and he said there was nothing wrong with the repair and that I must of driven over a pothole or something. Uh duh... the tire looks like that now cuz I had to drive with a flat tire on the freeway! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the very same tire you supposedly repaired is the same one that blew literally 5min from leaving your store? And you blame me for driving over a pothole the second I leave your store? And now I have to buy a brand new tire from you guys? You endangered my life by putting me back on the freeway with a faulty tire repair. C'mon Big O, do the right thing, that's just so wrong. I bought a set of four top of the line tires at Costco over the summer. I have put under 5,000 miles on them so to walk out to my ride and see such a substantial flat was a major surprise. Of course Costco Tire center wouldn't answer ANY of my calls!! Now i am glad because i had the fortune of meeting Jonathan and the other fellas at Big O in Novato. They knew i needed to pick up my kid from school and so they LENT me a spare tire. That's right, LENT it to me. Who does that anymore??!! I hadn't even bought my original tires from them! I helped a friend get her car to Big O tires on Saturday because she had a nail in her back tire and it needed to be patched. She knew she needed two new front tires but doesn't have the money right now. I suggested she get a quote for the front while she got the back one patched, so she could compare prices during the week when other stores were open. To my disgust, they told her they wouldn't patch the tire and that she had to get four new tires which was $1300! Let me tell you, the nail WAS NOT in the sidewall and there was no reason they couldn't patch it. They saw a woman who doesn't know about cars/tires and they took advantage of her on a holiday weekend knowing she needed it back. They are sleazy and dishonest. Do not take your car there unless you're prepared to fight with them and advocate for yourself. This is not the type of business I expect in our small town! Zero Stars---- On three separate occasions over the last few years I have tried to do business with this shop. The first time I had to call the Regional rep to sort out why the shop charged me for an alignment on a Mercedes Benz but didn't have a specific tool to complete the one aspect, and they didn't tell me that BEFORE the car was on the rack. Then I come in with a tire hissing air, nail in the TREAD, the guy comes out starts this song and dance on how old the tire is (6 years) and how he won't repair it, It ran on the side wall and damaged it blah blah blah...cow manure ...so off to ABLE Tire just down the street, where they: pull, patch and repair the tire...no b.s. about the 'age' of the tire, or it's supposed '''damage'' and still holding air months later. I call yesterday trying to get a price for an alignment for a 1997 Mercury, and ask "how much would I need to pay for an alignment of my 1997 Mercury, a 2 wheel alignment?" The Jack*ss actually said: ""As much as we can get."" I replied, ""ok,"" and hung up. I am not making this up. My wife was in the room as I had it on speaker phone. We are on a fixed income and price matters. I'm not sure if this fool thinks he's being funny or was just bored; but, it's completely unprofessional behavior to play around (if that's what he was doing) when people need work they can trust. These guys continually disappoint and I wouldn't/don't trust them to work on my car. Shady, unprofessional, and snarky...who wants that? Not me. ---Three strikes? YOU ARE OUT! I used them for a Lyft inspection only. This location gets great marks for service on the phone. I had called a awhile back and the person on the phone was courteous and answered all my questions. Bonus marks for suggesting we input my info so "they would be all set when I came in". I called again on a Sat before I headed in and they let me know it was a first come, first serve situation and time to finish inspection would vary on how busy they were. Prepared with a book I headed out. Parking was available on the side but staff was short handed and it took awhile before someone was able to help. Once attended to things went smoothly, I was remainders again of fees and given a time estimate. 1 star removed for whomever was in my car--there was residue/black dust all over the steering wheel and gear shift. Pro tip: put a paper mat on the floor and use a paper towel or wet wipe before calling the customer for pick up. read more

Scene: Two girls are headed to San Francisco for the weekend for a friend's birthday. They're aiming to arrive at 12, 12:30pm for bottomless mimosas and brunch. But alas, they get a flat tire! Drat! Have no fear--Roadside Assistance is on its way. To ensure they can make it (better late than never, right?), they call Big O to let them know they're coming and what's going on. Junior takes my call and not only is he very professional, but friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He explains our options--patch or replacement tire. Upon arriving, we're met by 5 staff members, all of whom immediately greet us with smiles and ask how they can help. Junior checks the tire and unfortunately, it can't be repaired so he prepares us for the cost of a new tire. While this is an unexpected cost, he mentions that if we have AAA, we can get a discount. (It's rare that tire shops especially would suggest a discount so it was a welcome surprise!) While they guys in the garage are finding the tire and getting it installed, Jonny (the manager) comes over to show us the bad tire and explain what likely happened, and why a patch wasn't an option. He said they'd get us on the road quickly and was glad he could help us out. Matthew, the last of our Terrific Tire Troubadours, reviews the invoice with us. Cost, discount and the LIFETIME warranty on the tire. "Since you're a customer now, bring the car in anytime and we'll check the pressure on all 4 tires for the life of the tire." (At this point, we've told the guys we're toasting to them for their awesome service.) During the review, we also happened to mention that one of the other tires had lost the cap a while back and we were hoping to buy one as well. Matthew says, "No problem! I'll throw in a couple for free. We want you to be safe out there." (As if they needed to rack up more points...) We were in and out in 30 minutes and what could have been a crappy, run of the mill experience turned out to be fantastic. I live in Rohnert Park but would gladly take my car to Jonny and his team in Novato. I've worked in customer service for over 20 years and I'm a hardcore stickler for a good experience.
