I eat at han noodle bar so many times. And today me and my boyfriend ordered the noodles as usual. We brought one crepe from another store. As we were waiting for the noodles, we shared the crepe. A server came and told us that we cannot eat the crepe there. I mean I ordered as usual in their restaurant , And I did no harm to their profit. Why overreact on a customer bring a small snack? Besides, they don't offer crepes. If they do, I will definitely order there. But they don't. When I said to the server, we ordered a lot food here. She said you can't do this, my boss said so. And the service is not good then. When the server bring food and drink to our table, it was like just put down and go, without a single word. Even put my food in front of my boyfriend. I had to give this place a second chance because everyone raves about it, but I have to say their American-Chinese dishes do not live up to the hype of their other offerings... my first order from here was sesame chicken and it was tough and chewy. The flavor was good but the cuts of chicken used didn't seem to be of quality and I was disappointed. On my second try I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and some pork buns. The buns were okay, though a little chewier than I like and there wasn't much flavor to the pork--no sauce or anything. The Kung Pao chicken honestly had a fishy taste to it. It was not good and I didn't finish the portion. It was served with a bunch of celery too which was strange. I understand that this place might not specialize in these types of American-Chinese dishes, but why offer it on the menu if you don't do it well? People on yelp sometimes have a tendency to become food critics without the credentials. I came during lunch as an fyi and to be fair to shifts Pros: Service was friendly, organized and relatively quick. Missed: The dish. I kept it standard with chicken pad thai. I usually always resort to standard dishes because it gives me a sense of the place and they should be hard to mess up..it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything to write home about. I used to consider it a go-to for lunch and takeout (LOVED the pork belly buns!) but went there last week and had an experience that probably will affect my enthusiasm for going back. A few notable disappointments: Pork belly buns were dry and cold. Really sad, since they used to be so delicious. Waitress was extremely inattentive and service was slow. So slow, in fact, that after waiting, sharing a few appetizers, and waiting some more, we had to get our entrees to go because I had to get back to work. Restaurant wasn't at all busy, either -- maybe half-full? When I got back to work and opened up my order of shrimp singapore noodles, I wondered if, while packaging them up, the server had eaten all the shrimp. There were -- literally -- two and one-half small shrimp in the entire dish. If I'd been in the restaurant, I'd have sent it back. It's a shame, but that was probably my last trip to Han. read more

This wasn't first time here. Per Rochester standards it wasn't horrible but it wasn't amazing. I got the Roasted Duck noodle soup and the pork belly bun. The bun was pretty plain, granted the only other buns I had were from Ippudo in NYC - but they were good. The noodle soup started off good and got salty, i'm assuming from the duck sitting in the broth. I would recommend that you pull them out and put them on a side plate if you don't like an overly salty broth. The noodles were a bit doughy which was really disappointing, but the broth was great before it got salty. Overall the meal was very filling. Very Very impressed with Han Noodle Bar! I tried their pork belly steam buns at the best of Rochester event and ever since then I was like "I HAVE to go there." Finally, last night my boyfriend and were trying to figure out what to have for dinner and we picked up some Noodles and broth for him and I got the hot, spicy shrimp and fried rice for me. We also got the spicy chicken steam buns. OMG the spicy chicken steam buns were amazing!!!!!! I honestly think, next time i go back i am going to get an order of those, the pork belly and their Vietnamese Spring rolls! The spicy shrimp was really good, but not what I expected. I kind of just randomly picked something so I didn't get my usual hunan chicken. I was not disappointing at all, but I think next time i will go for the meifun. the fried rice was perfect for me. It was not doused in oil or soy sauce, it was delicious. the portions are huge also! I like you Han Noodle Bar. You're cheap, and delicious. These are two of my favorite things. I have tried a bunch of the appetizers and enjoyed all of them. The buns are awesome! I have tried both the chicken and mushroom ones. I also really like the fried tofu, and the spring rolls. Pretty much every time I come here I get the lo mien. I generally would be a little more adventurous with my tastes, but it's just so good. I hate crappy take out lo mien generally, so the fact that this one is good makes me happy. So the best part of my experience at Han was when I ordered the Singapore Meifun - and said to the waitress "I think I'll have the chicken"...and she replied "well, it actually comes with all those items listed" (chicken, pork, shrimp,egg) - what an awesome concoction and it was pretty amazing! I also had the steamed stuffed buns with chicken which were delicious. I look forward to going back at some point and trying the many other items on the menu. The service was excellent, the food came out quick and its very, very affordable especially given the quality of the food. Oh - and yes, its BYOB - yay! Whenever I'm feeling take out, han noodle bar comes to the rescue. Whenever I'm feeling sick, I order the house special broth noodles. Whenever I'm feeling a little homesick, I order in some comfort food from han noodle bar. Basically han noodle bar is the answer to "what do you want to get tonight?" I love coming to han noodle bar because it feels like the healthier and more authentic version of a Chinese take out place. You can always tell how good an Asian restaurant is by the number of Asian people actually there! Their food is consistently great, and they do the classics justice (chicken and veggies and beef ho fen). And did I forget to mention how extremely reasonably priced they are?! Dinner for 2 for 20? I'll take that! I particularly love their buns, with pork belly or spicy chicken. They are also conveniently located next to a parking lot shared with dog town and right across from Starbucks. This is our go to restaurant for a fast fresh cheap dinner that's different from the norm. It's byob which is awesome, obviously. Their noodle bowls are my favorite in Rochester - love the spicy chicken bowl with lo mein noodles. And the Singapore noodle dish is such a unique flavor that will have you whopping up the entire portion. Their pork belly buns are so delicious along with the cumin steak app - a must everytime we visit. But, (there's always a but), that brisket bowl was inedible. I couldn't even tolerate the smell of it. But, SOUP! My new favorite hot and sour soup. My partner and I went to Han on a Sunday evening, and the previously mentioned lousy service was present, with only 1 woman (who looked like she would rather be anywhere else but there) giving service. She was attentive, but way overworked (as was the kitchen). Still, I have to give her credit for managing things single-handed. We started off with a special starter, 'five spice beef', which was, frankly, a bit underwhelming. It's a sort of smoky-marinated slice of very inexpensive beef (with a bit of gristle in it), which, due to being marinated, was rather easy to chew. Still, it was at best unremarkable. If I see it on the menu again, I won't order it. For main dishes, we ordered the pork belly with pickled turnips, and the Hot sour cilantro, basil shrimp and squid soup. The pork belly was a bit on the smoky side (the pork fat is left in for taste, those who complain should know...), but was rather tasty, albiet just a bit salty. Had I known how similar it was to the starter, I would've probably had a different starter. The soup was wonderful (although a bit messy, since the lo mein noodles were a bit glutinous-order it with thin noodles!), and was just spicy enough to be interesting, instead of blazing hot (like many Korean style soups are). This dish alone would make a great lunch. Also, a few days back, I had a simple pork with garlic sauce as a take-out lunch, and was very pleased with it (not your usual sugar-infused faux Chinese style, that's for sure!). I can likewise recommend it. Demerits must be mentioned for the lack of beer, and the rather plain green tea (next time, I'll try the jasmine tea), which, they have the balls to charge extra for! Also, the 'hipster crowd' there can be a bit annoying, too (note to the Morrisey-circa-1986-lookalike at the next table: I was into The Smiths before your parents had even finished puberty, and even Morrisey gave up on THAT look 20 years ago. Try doing something original, maybe?). I would probably give an overall rating of 3.5 stars (and will return soon!), but feel that because of other fairly harsh reviews, I'll round UP this time to help the average. They aren't perfect, but we need more places like this in town. There's far too much crap Chinese food locally. read more

At Han Noodle Bar, they cook they way they want to eat. For real, that's their slogan and rightfully so, the food is fresh and delicious. Han provides traditional Chinese food but with a flavorful twist. The space, which was Oasis Mediterranean Restaurant for years has been completely renovated and now looks very Ikea-esque. A large "noodle bar" greets you upon arrival along with a chalk board of the days specials. The space is small but clean with wooden floors, tiny white furniture and white cups and bowls and nothing is out of place. Han is a Type A's dream come true! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly but don't ask to alter your order (sub chicken for shrimp or mushrooms for scallions). During my last visit the chef was kind enough to explain to me that by altering his dishes he would be altering the authenticity of the meal. Respectable. Not to worry, Han's menu is literally 4 pages of Chinese goodness! Han offers everything from traditional Chinese, to Clay pots, broth and non broth noodles, a whole section dedicated to vegetarians and even a kids menu. Han has it all. The best thing on the menu? BUNS. Buns are a steamed dough filled with meat or vegetables or both! I had encountered my first Bun at Fatty Cue in NYC years ago and was hoping they'd make their way to Rochester. The Buns at Han are so delicious that I usually take 2 to go for a late night snack or the next days lunch. Since I'm living in Vegetarian land, I've only had the braised Shitaki mushroom bun. If you want to spice it up add a shot of sriracha Sauce. Han Noodle Bar is one of my faves, a good stand by, it really never lets you down. If you're like me wine tastes good with everything and at Han there is no cork fee so bring a bottle (or three) and enjoy the view of a bustling Monroe Avenue while enjoying some bun. read more

I don't normally post in Yelp. However, I had a fantastic experience with Chinese cuisine recently at a "mom and pop" establishment in Penfield called, Hon Wah. I had such a lovely experience that I continued the craving and decided to stop by Han Noodle Bar the following week. I was charged $17 for lackluster chicken lo mein and a scallion pancake appetizer. I got home and the noodles were gummy and over soyed with next to no protein (chicken) in the mix which made me wonder why I paid that much. It was underwhelming and I almost don't want to save and eat it for another day. I ate several bites because I was starving after running errands. But I was not satisfied to say the least. I will likely not go back to this overrated establishment. I will go back to a place that has a little more pride in their cuisine and doesn't ride solely on their location and reputation. read more

I think that the food here is prepared very well hopefully the kitchen is as clean as the table and the floor and the chairs in the eating area. The staff is very friendly always smiling trying to accommodate but to be honest they couldn't really explain some of the dishes properly and I feel that unless you are Chinese or familiar with the language, you will not be receiving what you thought you would. The food was very good, the portions substantial L. I think it would've been more fun to go with a very large group so we could have the Lazy Susan in the middle of the table to share all of the dishes. A group of Chinese young people we're having an absolute blast I felt like joining them!!! Went there with hubby fir the first time a few months ago and had a great meal - we were really pumped - Szechuan Hot Pot Fish was an intricate flavorful bowl of lusciousness. We shared a cup of hot & Sour Soup (possibly the best we've ever had) and tofu steamed buns (holy cow - someone finally knows how to make tofu!! Delicious!!). We were really excited to finally find flavorful Asian cuisine in Rochester - usually a desert of ethnic flavor. Today we returned for our second visit. We weren't that hungry but wanted to stop in as we were in that part of town. We shared an order of buns and each ordered a Hot & Sour soup, since it had been so good before. The buns were tasty and made for happy tummies. However, the soup was very, very different and we were disappointed. We asked the server if they'd changed the recipe. She apologetically explained that the soup is frequently different, and that the flavor depends on the cook. I seriously detest inconsistency at restaurants and it was frustrating. But I must say that the owner and the server were both AWESOME about it. They took the soup off our bill, they tried to add spice to it and brought another cup with more seasoning, acknowledged the problem, and were apologetic. Customer service for the win. Usually we wouldn't return after having such an inconstant ordering experience, but their professional management and customer service will definitely bring us back in for another go. read more
