The server told us it's because you need a special cooking top for the pork so it doesn't cause a fire. Understandable, but still a bit disappointing. We opted just for the beef & seafood pancake. The portions are pretty large but you need to buy 2 orders of each type of BBQ. Also, I can tell recently the prices were updated on the menu. The food was okay I wasn't amazed. Han Yang has been a part of our family's life for close to a decade now. It's an absolute gem in Hayward, and I can confidently say that after having lived in Seoul for several years and also having tried many Korean restaurants in the Bay Area. Helen has always been very welcoming to my wife and I and I do feel like we developed a special relationship that you very rarely get with those in the community these days. If you like Korean food, or miss Korean food (homesick), you should definitely give Han Yang a try. It has barbecue grills built into each table, which is already challenging to find as most Korean restaurants now just cook everything in the back and bring it out, which just ruins the whole experience of grilling your food with family, friends, and business partners to your exact liking. Han Yang holds true to the lost art of providing an authentic Korean BBQ experience and the fact that I see anything less than 5 stars is shocking to me, and that's not even to mention the quality of their food and recipes being excellent, as well as the breadth of dishes available. Most Korean restaurants I have been to in the last several years have had just a handful of (mediocre) popular meals in US markets but very few authentic Korean dishes. We ordered take out for Mother's Day during shelter in place. I called down the yelp list from my Korean restaurant search. The first 2 restaurants did not pick up. This was the 3rd. I ordered Kalbi tang, Kim chee pancake, bbq chicken, and jap chae. They packed our ordered into 6 boxes... I'm like "there's a lot of boxes!". They packed us a whole box of rice and a whole box of 4-5 different ponchon. This was without us asking. Good start... but haven't tried the food. So I grab a piece of chicken.... it brings me back to college days in Berkeley at Steve's BBQ in Durant Square. It was not only delicious, moist, n charred, but spiritual because of the memories it brought to me. The japchae was spot on with that quintessential flavor. The Kim chee pancake and kalbi tang were quite good. We did not hear any complaining from my son's Korean grandma. We were all in heaven. My son was all about the chicken. Thank you Han Yang! We came here for dinner. We were seated right away and the server handed us menu. She served us hot tea as we were getting ready for menu. As we ordered, she gave us our sides for bbq. We had chicken and bulaogi. It was pretty ok. It's a charcoal grill. But it took them a while to get our sides refill. Talking about the ambience,I was not happy with the service. I felt like they priotize their native people more than the others. They were greeting and talking with them so instantly but it's so hard to get them over our table if we needed something. They even escorted them outside once they were done eating and leaving, but not even bye to us lol. I don't think I would be going back here again. There are so many Korean bbq in this area, they better step up with their service and equal treatment to all the customers. No one wants to go to the place where they don't feel welcomed. I ordered tteokbokki and asked to add banchan as this was an appetizer and not a plate meal. To my delight, there was a V for vegetarian next to this, so I asked to hold to the fishcakes and could trust it wouldn't be fishy. Oh my goodness. So deliciously spicy and sweet! The waitress didn't ask my spiciness preference and I'd probably rate this a 7.5/10 on the spicy scale. Pretty hot but still flavorful. Super chewy rice cakes. Firm carrots, onions, and cabbage (and mushrooms which I moved to the side of the plate). **My mouth is watering again as I type this.** The banchan was good with a nice variety of Japchae, kimchi, sweet potatoes, pickled daikon&radish, cucumbers and bean sprouts.
