For a quick, rice bowl fix...Hana kitchen is the place to be. Simple menu of rice, mixed veggies, a choice of sliced chicken, beef, and even vegan chicken (gasps)! While they are great to have sides of soy jalapeño and fire cucumber, I feel that the dishes can sometimes be a bit too salty. Also, even though the place is new...it's really hard to find a place to sit and eat, especially on rush hour. From what I understand, they are currently expanding the area...so hopefully more people can walk in and actually setting down to eat. read more

Placed a takeout order. Arrive about 20 minutes later to pickup. I go to the pickup window and an employee is eating food and doesn't acknowledge me. I go to the register where he finally comes. Tell him the name for the order and he says they haven't started it because they are out of beef for my bowl. No phone call to let me know before I arrive. I changed it to a chicken bowl but they don't have the chicken skewers I also ordered. As well as the boba for the tea I ordered. You need to alter your online menu when you drastically change one of your menu items. Completely non-marinated/non-seasoned/non-cooked (cold) tofu is not a substitute for your vegan chicken. The item did not taste good enough to sell at all, but it especially disappointing when there was no indication the item had changed. If you were out of the vegan chicken, mark it as out of stock like you typically do instead of offering up a substandard replacement. A little disapointed. My chicken came raw in the middle. I called to let them know and they just set the phone down and did not return. I sat there listening to them talk and laugh. I gave it a good 20 mins to see if they would pick the phone back up but they did not. First time here and it was ok. When arriving you have to find parking on the street. It's a small place in between Haley and State. We arrived around 7 pm and it was a little busy. When browsing around, the decor is pretty plain and there's not much too see beside the staff working in an open kitchen. One thing that did throw me off was that the young lady at the register was not wearing her hair back. Having a lot of experience working in restaurant, it was a little odd to see someone working in the kitchen with their hair down. Also the small setup they had was pretty dirty and messy. I understand they are busy but a quick clean wouldn't hurt. Besides those small issues that threw me off, the food was ok. My boyfriend and I got two regular chicken bowls. Which consist of teriyaki chicken, white rice and veggies. They also provide beef and vegan options. The bowl is way bigger than regular so that was a plus, so definitely will have left overs! I'm a person who loves flavor so the bowl was a bit plain for me. With their sauces that they provide on the side, the bowl turned out to taste a lot better when fixing it up! I added green onions, chile powder and Sriracha! And boy that was 10x's better! We also ordered Boba's to drink. I ordered a Black Tea with Mango Syrup. They normally come with green tea but asked the cashier if they could switch it up for me and she kindly change it for me. My boyfriend ordered the Mango as well but with Green tea! I went here with my 2 friends after a concert looking for some good food. The "snow" I ordered was 2/3 full, and they messed up all 3 of our orders. We then had to deal with a cook who was mad at us for their mess up while he made what we ordered. When I got the bowl with meat I ordered finally, I was disgusted. My boyfriend came to me to ask what happened and I told him they lost my order ticket and gave my order out to the guy who came in after me & as I was explaining to him what happened, out of the corner of my eye, I saw her glaring at me and rolling her eyes. Lol....I then got fed up with her attitude so I said "Yeah. Keep rolling your eyes." And she rudely snapped back with a "uh. That wasn't directed toward you." Really? My family and I were craving milk tea so we headed into Hana Kitchen. We ordered the green milk tea and the black milk tea with boba. The straws did not have a pointy end to poke through the plastic and they were too narrow for the boba to go through. I ordered the Chicken bowl and ask for very light sauce and brown rice. There was an extra charge for the brown rice, which was fine. Also, ordered the green tea with ice. My order came out with white rice and tons of teriyaki sauce. If you don't like a whole bunch of teriyaki sauce on your food, best to for it on the side. Green tea was gigantic and tasty. I've been a long time Hana kitchen customer but after today I don't think I'll be going back. I've taken dozens of people there over the years. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. But today I drove from lompoc for 3 meals. I asked for 2 spicy mayos, 2 teriyaki sauces, and 1 pickled cucumbers per meal, which I don't believe is an excessive amount considering how they used to offer a whole bar! Instead of giving me what I asked for she only gave me 2 of each total, then said she would need to charge me 50 cents per extra sauce. So then I asked for at least 1 of each PER MEAL. But no. She said she still couldn't do it which I think is bull. Basically, I bought three meals but one meal isn't getting a spicy mayo, another meal isn't getting a teriyaki sauce and another meal isn't getting the pickled cucumbers. I would've happily paid for for extra sauce if I would've asked for an excessive/unreasonable amount of it. But 1 of 3 options per meal, considering they offer 5-6 options, is not unreasonable at all. I've been going to hanas since before they even moved to state street. I've taken dozens of people there, and now I don't think I'll be returning. It's little experiences like this one that loose you loyal customers. Honestly, I should've just gone to jack in the box. Being local and watching the downtown location grow from the little building it was on Haley street to the big and better location on State Street, I am happy to see business growth. When they first opened up over a year ago, I was very happy with the food. I was a meat eater and the portions and price was perfect. It was a perfect addition to my nutritional needs. I would go there probably at least 10x a week and..so much the manager at the time were on first name basis. Since then and roughly about 11mos ago, I became completely Vegan.....but prior I would try the vegan bowl sometimes and chicken on others. I would have them cook it the regular way and asked if they would put it on the grill to give it some additional taste. With all that being said....with any fast/ late night food spots....its hard to keep the great food quality that got you recognized in the community. Very simple request. Two tacos. No cilantro. Cook dumps cilantro all over the tacos. Looks at the ticket. Picks off the stemmed chunks, leaving all the finely chopped cilantro all over the tacos. Looks over at me several times while does this. Picks another piece of cilantro out of the box before putting the cilantro covered tacos on the counter. I told the clerk.
