Came here since I was craving a poke bowl and my usual go-to poke places were closed today. Reading the reviews, I was super excited to try :) Since it was my first time, I opted for a 2-choice bowl with spicy ahi and shoyu ahi poke with white rice. I also saw they had plantation iced tea (my favorite!) in the fridge so I grabbed one too. The bowl and drink together came out to a little over $22. Upon getting my bowl, I realized my rice was piping hot so I immediately sat in my car to eat it (plus I was starving lol). I opened my bowl and was a little dismayed at how little poke there actually was. The poke was loaded with huge pieces of onion, and the bowl came with takuan and namasu. While I appreciated the takuan and namasu, I wasn't a fan of all the onion - I felt like it was being used as a filler to help make the poke portion look more generous than it is, and instead of a poke bowl, I felt like I was eating an onion bowl lol The poke, however, had great flavor and the fish was fresh - no stringy pieces :) that was a major plus Another plus was the young lady at the counter was very friendly and the service was quick. As for my plantation iced tea, it unfortunately also disappointed as it had a really weird taste ... not at all like a plantation iced tea. So - would I come back? Maybe to try out other poke dishes since the fish is fresh. However, for the price and quantity given, I think I'll be sticking to my other favorite poke places since it's just as fresh and I feel like I get more bang for my buck. Super awesome place. It's a small restaurant with really fresh poke. I wasn't sure what flavors to get and was struggling with picking between two. The nice cashier girl asked me if I wanted to do half and half. And I'm glad I did. I got the Hawaiian style and half spicy mayo. I loved that they had sushi rice and the furekake was good, but a little on the salter side, but it was really good with the perfect bite of fish, rice and flavors mixed in. it was busy but they were quick. Absolute gem located in the Koko Marina Shopping Center, how did I not find this place sooner!?!?  The food here is really good! On my visit here, I called in an order of Misoyaki Salmon, Ahi Fever (contains seared furikake ahi with wasabi aioli, spicy ahi poke, and an ahi patty), and a quarter pound of shoyu tako poke.  I also added on a calamansi slushy with li hing powder which was ambrosial!  I highly recommend this icy beverage.  My favorite food item was the seared ahi.  It tasted fresh, was cooked perfectly, and the wasabi aioli was the perfect touch of sophisticated scrumptiousness. The miso salmon was also extremely palatable. I plan to make this place a go-to when I am playing tourist at Hanauma Bay or torturing myself on the stairs of doom. read more

Got introduced to this place by a good friend Aloha and this place did not disappoint. When you walk in you're greeted by friendly staff who will gladly suggest items on the menu. We ordered poke by the pound. 3 pounds of their Hawaiian style ahi, 3 lbs of their spicy mayo ahi, and 3 lbs of their Miso ahi. Poke is so buttery and ono. Probably one of the better poke places I've ever been to. Also has the pleasure of trying their ahi patty plate lunch that was also pretty good but I would have to say this is my go to spot for Poke. Very limited seating and more of an order and to go type of place. Parking located in the plaza and is a plentiful. If you're in the area give them a try you won't be disappointed. read more

Picked up takeout from the HanaPa'a Market and perhaps it's better to eat in restaurant than bring home to eat. The rave reviews were so promising perhaps my expectations were also too high. The food was good, however I'd rather get my poke from Off the Hook in Manoa. - misoyaki salmon plate - 4/5, two smallish slim pieces of salmon on top of rice, could have benefited from larger pieces of thicker salmon - poke bowl - 4/5, good, but not great (see Off the Hook review) - poke bento - 3/5, this was where things got weird. The combination of hot items (Kalua pig, rice) and cold things (poke, cucumber salad) in the same to go box was not that appealing. The cold things got mixed with the hot and vice versa. Individually, once we separated the kalua pig and rice from the poke and salad, it was better, but again, maybe this is where eating in would have been a better experience. read more

The girl working the front today (11/10/25) at around 4pm- was absolutely fantastic! Her customer service was exceptional! She was very cheerful, very helpful and so kind to myself and my daughter. I heard how she interacted with other customers too and had to give her a shout out on yelp because service lately at other establishments with girls that look to be the same age as her have not been as friendly and welcoming as she was. Our food was great too! Very fresh and tasty. But great job to the cashier! Keep it up! Keep the positivity and aloha flowing because it's hard to come by these days and I really appreciated it and actually made my day a lot better! read more

Grabbed some food to go before heading to haunama a couple months ago. Placed our order and waited 15-20 minutes, drove to haunama and ate in the car while waiting to get into the parking lot. We ordered: Misoyaki salmon: 3/5 way too salty Combo plate kalua and poke: 3/5 kalua was mushed up and tasted just ok. Poke was big chunks, a bit too chewy for me. It was my first time trying HanaPa'a so I got the spicy ahi bowl with sushi rice because that order is always a safe bet but I was sadly really disappointed. The fish itself was ok, they're cut in pretty big chunks and some pieces were chewy while some were soft. The flavor of the sauce itself was heavily lacking, it didn't have much flavor. The onions were also cut really oddly, some pieces were really small and thin while others were sliced thick and huge. The sushi rice was cold and hard and the bowl comes with namasu (picked vegetables) but mine smelled and tasted like it was spoiling or already spoiled. With that said, the service was fast and they were nice but in my opinion, the inconsistent quality and lack of flavor doesn't equate to the $19 price tag read more

HanaPa'a is our go-to stop on our way home from a morning beach day with Tank and Pepper. First, the poke bowls are very fresh and balanced. We usually get a bowl and share it (pick 2) and add on a small side of something; lately, it's been the tako luau. SUPER delicious. It's nice and creamy and the perfect hot dish to compliment the cold, freshness of a poke bowl. As far as the poke bowl, we love that it also comes with 2 sides (pickled cucumber and diakon usually) but all their sides are amazing. You get a little bit of everything you want: poke, rice, and delicious vinegary crunch from the veg. **TIP: If you want to have something easy and delicious for another meal another day, get their pints of frozen pastele stew! We do this regularly and it's the perfect comfort food for any night of the week! You can easily order ahead online and it will be ready for pickup. I honestly really appreciate that they are really on top of things with this. The last time, we ordered the tako luau and they called us within 2 minutes of placing the order to apologize that they were actually sold out. They were very kind and accommodating and offered a refund or things we could substitute. Great customer service. Overall, HanaPa'a has been CONSISTENT, which is really important for a business to be. Solid food and customer service with a menu that offers a huge variety! Til next time... read more

It is known that Hawaii Kai just lacks good food. There are places with well recognized names, but the food just O-K in that area for some reason--which includes McDonalds and Roy's. But I may have found a place! In the now desolate shopping center known as Koko Marina, there's a new(er) poke place called Hana Pa'a Market. It used to be Paina Cafe, located near Kona Brewing and Teddy's. Parking is aplenty. The inside is smallish, but still spacious, clean, and bright, and there's a TV too! Besides poke bowls or by the pound, there's also sandwiches, plate lunches, and salads. The type of poke consists of ahi, salmon, shrimp, tako, and tofu with a variety of flavors to choose from (shoyu, spicy mayo, kim chee, Hawaiian, garlic, and miso). Everything is made to order. Started with a poke bowl with Spicy Mayo Ahi and Kim Chee Salmon. The cut on the fish was excellent--everything uniform. All nice firm pieces of fresh fish. The portion and size of the bowl was quite generous. Sushi rice was prepared and seasoned well. The spicy mayo ahi was good. Nicely coated, and tasty. For my taste, I prefer more spice and punch. The salmon was very good. Nice firm, rich texture. By itself, the taste was a little too strong on the gochujang or whatever jang was used. With the rice, it was fine. Perhaps it needed a little something to brighten it up and thin out the sauce? Next was the Ahi Avocado Burger--blackened ahi on a taro bun with local avocado (which was an awesome touch). Unfortunately, the ahi was on the bland and dry side. It was a thin cut, so not too surprised it over cooked a bit. Luckily the salad dressing helped (or was that really for the burger?). Defintely needed some sauce, unless it was missed? Overall, it was a good experience. Everything was fresh and well prepared, and generously portioned. Just some minor tweaks for my preference. Service was good. Super friendly and welcoming staff. A nice variety of items on the menu. It's good to have a solid poke place in East Honolulu. I'll definitely come back for fresh poke! read more

However, I'm not sure if I came on the wrong day, this shop has a very piercing strong chemical smell when we entered the shop. With a 6-months old infant, we had to leave the store immediately with the baby, leaving only 1 person to order. We stopped at this wonderful restaurant on the way back from a trip along the eastern past of Oahu. We wanted a poke style dish but asked if they could cook the ahi tuna. The owner said no problem at all. We decided on the poke bento box, which included Kalua style pork, two styles of ahi tuna, imitation crab, brown rice and some veggies. Bottom line was this was the best tasting meal we had during our 4 day stay on Oahu. Mahalo!!! Staff was super friendly and nice to us. HanaPa'a Market in the Koko Marina is serving up fresh poke, local favorites, and some unique creations like their spicy ahi sandwich. With their poke you pick your protein: ahi, salmon, tako (octopus), or shrimp and then you pick your sauce/flavor. There are even a few GF/ Vegan sauce options. When I came in we ordered a miso salmon poke bowl and their garlic blackened ahi sandwich. The miso salmon poke bowl was so fresh and the flavors were on point. With both of the dishes we ordered, the sauces on both were so good- they know how to make a good sauce here. For the price though, the amount of fish in the poke bowl is a little light. The poke bowl was better than the garlic butter blackened ahi in my opinion. There was a really ono tangy mayo sauce but with the garlic butter sauce and tomato, pickles, and avocado- the taro bun got really soggy. The proportion of ahi to everything else was off- it was probably half way through the sandwich where there was no more ahi and all avocado, tomato, and lettuce etc. The service here is really great, you can tell that this is a local family-run joint. We were going to takeout our food since we had our pup Lando with us, and then they informed us that they are dog friendly and even offered a dog treat! Picked up an Ahi Fever plate and Tofu poke bowl on our way to Waimanalo. Team here is super friendly and quick and the food is ono. I loved all of the different flavors in the ahi fever plate; I wasn't sure what to expect with the ahi fish cake but it was surprisingly great, probably my favorite item in the plate. The potato salad was unique and the kim chee, takuan, and sunomono were all good, too. Wifey ordered the tofu poke bowl with spicy mayo on the side to share with the kid. Also delicious. My only gripe is the cost to switch to 1/2 salad, 1/2 rice or all salad which is $3 and $4, respectively. Also they forgot to add the imitation crab salad to her bowl (+$2). read more

Stopped by with my husband after a hike. Got the misoyaki salmon plate that comes with rice, potato salad, and pickle. The salmon was delicious--super tender and juicy, perfectly seasoned. I'm usually not into potato salad but even the potato salad I really enjoyed. We got the salmon poke with kimchi and shoyu flavoring. We both preferred the shoyu since the kimchi was a but overpowering (as shown by the extremely red half of the bowl). Next time I'd go with the Hawaiian or garlic so the fish shines through more. There aren't many seats and it got super crowded about five minutes after we got there, so better to come early to beat the lunch rush or plan to eat elsewhere. There are maybe three tables plus counter seating. Will definitely come back the next time we're in Oahu!! read more
