Stopped by hand & spoon last night and was so impressed by the variety of flavors! We truly couldn't decide, so thank goodness we were encouraged to sample as much as we wanted. Ended up with a brownie batter and coffee cookie split scoop. It was absolutely delicious and just the right size. The new owner has a great story and is so welcoming. I definitely recommend chatting with her if there's not a long wait behind you. My one suggestion for improvement is to get better spoons, as the ones currently being used are a bit flimsy and bulky. We really enjoy the ice cream here. It's a cute little shop with fun chairs for kids to sit in, and also stools where you can sit look out the window. I ordered an ice cream cake a week ago and spoke eagerly to the owner. She was certain the cake would be ready on time of day of pick up. Come to find out that this place wasn't even open and I was buying this birthday cake for my boyfriend's birthday. Needless to say, he didn't get any cake for his birthday and it was such a let down because I waited an hour for the place to open thinking hopefully she would come in at the time she said she would. When I was waiting for her, other patrons walked miles to come here to find this place closed . Great Twos-day Special! Love the special (2 scoops for $2.50) and the store closes at 9pm on the dot! Great tasting ice cream and a great treat in the hot summer nights in Redondo(sarcasm). I do have to mention about the disgruntled employee. She wasn't very happy and kept sighing with every ask/order. Unfortunately, she probably didn't have a good day and on top of it, there was a mad rush towards the end of the night. I especially love their weekday specials and will definitely be returning. OLD REVIEW: I have been to this ice cream place several times and have been greeted with respect. Unfortunately not tonight, Sophia and Kaitlin were the most rude employees I have come across. It's apparent from the reviews that this is not the first time. We got there 15 mins before closing and Sophia turned to Kaitlin and said "we're not getting out of here by 9". She then proceeded to handle money and not wash her hands and served our ice cream. She also refused our requests for sundaes and shakes because they had basically shut down the store before closing time. Now this review isn't about the quality of the ice cream. It's great however, the service needs to be changed. Maybe with some employees who actually want to work there. Maybe not some teenagers who want to bully the customers. read more

There's a special on each day of the week and on Wednesdays, waffle cones are free. I tried some Mudslide (chocolate with fudge swirls) and Banana Split (basically Neapolitan + banana) and both were great - pleasant flavor, rich yet not overwhelming creaminess, balanced sweetness. This is definitely in the realm of old-fashioned, American ice cream and while it certainly doesn't hold a candle to authentic gelato or some of the newer, more "artisanal" ice cream, it's still very tasty and immensely comforting. Together with the fact that a massive double scoop cost just over $5, my wife and I will be adding Hand & Spoon to the regular rotation for sure. read more

My son loves hand and spoon and today we went and they were finally open again. We had been checking every time we came to the village. My son's favorite ice cream was in stock and he loved the new flavors they had. I tried the coffee ice cream and it was amazing. I'm very picky about coffee ice scream and I was very happy. It was a little expensive but no more than a fancy coffee drink and the smile on my son's face was worth it. I was able to talk with the new owner who was very nice. She shared that there had been a family emergency and that's why they had been closed. They have a new vendor for ice cream and I sampled some new flavors like the raspberry and it was so creamy and was went great with the coffee cream. The mint was perfect. My son and I will be back for sure. Also both flavors we got were not on display so if you are craving a flavor you don't see just ask and hopefully they will have it. A 3.5 star place, but I always give the benefit of ratings. We pulled right up and walked in, which is really nice. They have really nice selection of sprinkled cones/waffles that they display, which look really nice. We ordered the mocha and caramel salted ice creams. I think the mocha was too strong for my liking, but my gf liked it. I like my caramel pretzel tho. Overall, a decent small ice cream place. Not my favorite of ice cream, but definitely not bad. The service was nice, so that's definitely a plus. My daughters wanted to see the ice cream selection to choose from but all the ice cream was covered up because Sophia and Caitlyn decided they would be leaving right at 9 pm. I've worked in customer service before and yes it does suck when you're trying to get ahead of the game and do your closing tasks to help yourself out a bit at the end of the night but I NEVER treated the customers the way Caitlyn and Sophia treated me and my family. I felt like I forced them to do their jobs and I felt unwelcomed, rolling of the eyes, deep sighs at every request. Unwillingness to make our order because they had already cleaned everything up. Then to top off the whispering to each other "we are not getting out of here at 9." Uhhh if you're open till 9 then stay open until 9, oh and to top off this whole wonderful experience... at 8:55 they kicked us out and told us they had to mop. The ice cream was okay but the service was horrible. The girl behind the counter was extremely rude. She yelled at my family and the teenagers before us. After yelling at us for needing to know to ask for toppings before flavor of ice cream, she threw the ice cream cup, slammed the scoop down and rolled her eyes. The teenagers were very uncomfortable and so were we. I asked if there was a sign so that we could be aware of their process. She replied saying that "it's my job to tell you and I did." The ice cream taste ok! It was 4 of us and The girl who was charging asked me do you want your receipt, before telling me the total price and I said no! Then she said $22 and I thought we all got kids size so it must be a mistake! So I requested a receipt. Sure there I see my receipt along with a $3 bill and some change returned to me, then I knew I did a right thing to ask for a receipt! After we finished eating I noticed the receipt shows 5 ice cream instead of 4!! So I brought it to her attention and she gave me refund for the extra ice cream that was charged! Terrific ice cream . . . . but then, how hard is it to screw up ice cream? This used to be a 31 Flavors and I'm curious to know why it isn't a 31 Flavors anymore . . . . but neither the current owner nor the muckity-mucks who run 31 Flavors is going to tell us, so it'll have to remain a mystery. Before you order a Banana Split (or anything with bananas in it) take a look at the bananas on the counter and check their color to make sure they're ripe, but not too ripe. I had a Banana Split here recently, and the banana they used was way too old and squishy and did not taste good. In fact it was so bad, I had to shovel out the bananas and just eat the ice cream. I think that trying to use-up old bananas (to save $) is a case of being penny-wise-but-pound-foolish, but I'm not the proprietor. Hey, maybe differences in "banana philosophy" is why 31 Flavors decamped from this location/owner, but that's highly speculative. read more

I've never written a yelp review before as I've never been one to complain or voice my concerns on establishments. Although I will admit that this place has good ice cream, I would much rather take my service to the Handels across the street or other local alternatives. My reasoning is simple, when both my girlfriend and I came into this shop we were simply just holding hands and got uncomfortable glares from the older gentlemen cashiering. When we were getting our ice cream and paying, he began to ask us uncomfortable questions about our sexuality. He began by asking why we were holding hands and how that might make people uncomfortable. Please keep in mind that I was 18 and my girlfriend at the time was 17.
