They also serve soft serve ice cream, which is rare in the area. If you want soft serve, this is likely your best (and only) option. I haven't tried the food here so I can't speak on it. Unlike most ice cream spots in the area, Handy Hill has ample outdoor seating and a large parking lot, which makes the act of getting ice cream just a bit more convenient. Little spot on the side of the road. One window to order ice cream, another to order food. Seating is at picnic tables under the trees. Guests waiting for their orders to be called, and those waiting in line to place an order were all keeping respectful distances from each other. Masks were worn by all. Luckily I had some wipes with me, 'cause those picnic tables are not clean. Besides the usual 'out door' stuff, ketchup and ice cream splatters decorate the landscape. Watch where you are sitting. :D We ordered lobster rolls, hot chicken strips, chowder and clam cakes. The lobster rolls are served in a frankfurter roll and had large chunks of meat in a mayo dressing. Maybe not as 'full' as some, they were still decently stuffed. The 'hot' chicken strips were not hot enough to satisfy the wing man, but they sure smelled spicy-hot to me, so I guess that's a buyer beware situation there. My only complaint, for Bliss, not Handy Hill, is that they discontinued Freedom of Espresso, which was my favorite flavor ever. Came here for some chowder and clam cakes. First order of clam cakes were overcooked and tasted burnt. I asked if I could have a replacement order that was not overcooked. They said they have to be cooked for a certain time but said they would remake them. The second order of clam cakes were smaller in size and dark in color. I told them that these are burnt too to which they replied "have a nice day." I have ordered clam cakes here for years and have had a much better experience. With plenty of parking, I strolled up to the counter and joined another group of girls simply staring at the elongated list of ice cream flavors available in cones, cups, and other various desserts. After scanning and re-scanning the menu, I opted for a cup of Kahlua Fudge frozen yogurt. Unsure of what size I wanted, I asked the women behind the counter what a small cup looked like. She simply offered that it was a couple scoops of ice cream. A bit frustrated by this vague response, I decided to go with the small anyways, not wanting to completely spoil my dinner. What was presented to me was a gigantic mountain of ice cream; 3 ridiculously large scoops shoved into a standard size cup. Incredulous, my friend and I confirmed that this was indeed a small. I could only eat what was protruding from the cup. When I got to the last of its contents I stared defeated at just how much was still left. I definitely could have shared this size. What the heck does a Medium and Large look like? Must feed a family of 4 or more... Very reasonable price... just over $3 for the monstrosity that was handed to me. Perhaps next time I should order specifically per scoop and not size. The frozen yogurt was quite tasty though, basically a meal in itself. I've been happily coming to Handy Hill for the last 25 years. It's always a fabulous spot for a summer treat, but tonight they really went above and beyond. One of the people in my group told the young woman taking our order that he has a gluten allergy. They responded by putting on fresh gloves, cleaning a fresh ice cream scoop and taking the serving from a brand new tub of ice cream to avoid any chance of cross contamination. I couldn't believe it! The Handi Hill creamery is a locally owned and operated ice cream parlor, who serves soft, hard ice cream excellent local seafood, hotdogs hamburgers, but what they don't tell you as well, but what happens behind the scenes the local girls who are moving on from Westport high or Dartmouth high or local high schools are going to college usually work there for a couple of summers in a row and you get to know who they are what they're all about they get to know your order. Also, the owners just live up the road the owners work very very hard every year to make sure that they put on a, great ice cream experience every year what was what I noticed and what was greatly appreciate it is during Covid. We still stuck to our 6 foot distancing and still used all our precautions and I have to say everything still went off without a hitch. Good job everybody will see you next year. I don't understand what Stepehn was smoking . but Handy Hill Creamery is the best. They make HOMEMADE ICE CREAM not the usual Richardson's that dominates the market around Boston. Homemade is the best. The ice cream is delicious and the bubble gum flavor mixed with Cotton Candy flavor was amazing. You could really tell it was home made. Also I learned Handy Hill was named after a family who lived up on the hill named the Handy Family. There's a cool Wildlife sanctuary called Allen's Pond not far...from there (We went hiking there) (its a Mass Audubon ) so members get in free. you can also park your car at the main parking area and use the beach there free (the first beach is rocky mostly) but there's one you can walk down to ....- through a side back trail and get to a private beach - with more sand available. for free rather than pay the $15 at Horseneck. You can also walk the trails and such and then you're only a few minutes from, Handy Hill on the drive home Friendly staff and Bruins fans get an extra star. =) the girl wore a Bruins T-shirt. and I work at TD Garden as an usher /guest relations so she gets an extra star from me GO B's!!!!) I come to Handy Hill ("HH" -- my initials!) not for the ice cream, but for the tasty clam cakes and chowder! This pairing is perfect for eating on nearby Baker's and Horseneck beaches while watching the sun go down. Or, dine "in" enjoy your meal al fresco at one of HH's outside patio tables. This is a real come-as-you-are place and there is no inside seating. HH's clam chowder is piping hot with a not-too-thin-not-too-thick consistency, although a little too potato-y for my liking, and is chock full of plenty of salty clam meat. HH serves each bowl alongside an individually-portioned baggie of oyster crackers, so you can choose whether to dunk them one-by-one, or, if you're like me, dump the whole package into your soup before chowing down. This is not the world's best clam chowder, but it certainly satisfies when you're in the mood for an inexpensive bowl. The clam cakes have great flavor, though HH's are typically lacking when it comes to clam meat. These savory fritters are crispy on the outside, warm and soft inside, and, like oyster crackers (but waaay better), they taste even better when dipped into your chowder. I've certainly had better clam cakes around town, but these are just too convenient to pass up when in the area. Next summer I will have to try their ice cream and see how it compares with nearby cult sensation Wood's ice cream. There's no such thing as bad ice cream, right?! Finally, just something to note: if you do choose to dine beach-side, watch out for sneaky sea gulls who will certainly steal your snacks! read more

Went here on the way home from the beach, very easy to find right off the main road to and from Horseneck. The place was very busy, but the line moved smoothly and fairly quickly. The ice cream was really yummy and prices were pretty decent. (Chocolate PB Cookie Dough- wowza!) My problem with the place was this, the construction of the ice cream cone. You have to pack the ice cream onto a cone in a manner that says, "Ice cream, meet your cone.. You guys need to stick together til the very end, otherwise bad things will happen", like when the server kinda plopped ice cream on top of the cone precariously and within 2 minutes my ice cream was on the ground.. I still tear up a bit thinking about that ice cream cone, and the time we could have spent together... Maybe one day, the wounds will heal. read more
