Dan has become my go to handyman for make ready work when one of my rental properties needs to be prepared for a new tenant. He's been a big help for those projects that I don't know how to do or I could do but it would take me 5x as long to figure out. Fortunately, this review will only serve to echo the comments of many other people regarding Handyman Dan and his work. Dan's service was excellent and I would highly recommend him. Why? Unlike many other guys in his profession (or contractors) I called Dan and received a call back within 5 minutes (I've found that many calls for help go unreturned or are very delayed...not the case with Dan). Dan has completed several projects for my home. I love the service he provides because of his experience with window treatments. There have been several instances where I had the wrong materials and Dan was able to spot it out before drilling holes or beginning work where someone with little experience would have created a mess only to realize the problem with the hardware or items later, only to leave a mess and wall full of holes that need repair. Found Handyman Dan on Yelp, and saw his rating and contacted him about a troublesome front door that has had some water entering into my home when it rains and not knowing where it was coming in. I sent an email and he texted me back asking for photos of my front door and made a recommendation to get a storm door because the door was low enough to concrete/rock that rain water was most likely splashing into the door sweep and getting in there. I ordered the storm door and had him come out to install it. When scheduling with him I was expecting it to take awhile, but to my pleasant surprise he was able to come out the next day to install it. Dan arrived a few minutes early than what we scheduled, which is a huge plus. Took Dan about a little bit over an hour to install the storm door, which is way faster than if I had attempted to do it myself. After he was done, I thought I would get an estimate for some blinds that needed to be installed as well and then schedule that for a later date, but again, to my surprise Dan said that he could take care of that as well while he was there to avoid having to wait about a week to do it. Dan was incredibly polite, professional, and also has a very entertaining personality. I am very happy with the work that was done and the overall experience. The entire cost of work was reasonable (I don't have a lot of experience with other handyman/contractors to compare prices, but it was less than I would have guessed it cost). Be careful with Dan. He is not transparent with his pricing and will sneak in extra charges if he can. He told me on the phone to never call him again after I refused to pay his extra charges. He then threatened to put a lein on my house over refusing to pay his sneaky and not agreed charges. I guess this was some kind of bully tactic. He really likes to talk. Although he thinks he is friendly, no one really cares about his odd stories. When he is talking, he is not working and therefore the job takes a really long time. read more

Dan was polite, didn't really show up at time was supposed to, but his son injured himself so he explained it to me very well. I would def. use Dan for small one hour jobs, but for example I had a fence repair job, at his rate of $40/hour & how many hours he thought it would take him, it was MUCH cheaper to go with professional Fence Repair companies who have a warranty, more experience, probably do it in 1/3 the time and lots of other perks (by much cheaper, I'm talking about $700). So for an hour job I would def. use him as he is reliable, once you start getting above 2-3 hours, I'm not sure its worth it. read more

Caveats: I live out-of-state and own a tenant-occupied house that was built in 1974 and was a "fixer-upper" when we bought it in 2006. Maybe it is the above info that makes it so hard to find a great handyman. I don't know. But when I first contacted Dan I had really high hopes based on all the great reviews. I explained that we really needed was a handyman we could send a "To Do" list to and they could take it from there....set up appointment with tenant and follow-thru until list was complete. It never really worked out that way. Lots of calls/explanations/rescheduling with tenants/confusion over to do list/confusion over parts needed/etc. The final straw was the 4th (or 5th?) scheduled appointment that Dan arrived at and immediately told tenants he couldn't stay to complete any of the work.....just dropped by to cancel in person. He seems like a really nice guy to sit and chat with. Maybe if you are on site and really flexible with your time he'd be a good fit. The amount of time and money I spent, though, to try and get a pretty basic list complete (we're talking installing a kitchen sprayer, touch-up painting, putting on a screen door, etc....) wasn't worth the hassle. 3 1/2 months after first contacting him, my tenants have thrown up their hands in frustration, and I'm moving on.... read more

Dan demonstrates a very high level of integrity about his craftsmanship that I don't see much of these days. He's a great guy -- affable, knowledgeable, punctual, respectful, and above all, honest. He cares a great deal about getting the job (even very small jobs that other contractors might deem unworthy) done right. And if he is unable to do a particular job in question, he will be honest with you about it rather than trying to do a shoddy job just for the money. His speedy turnaround time and the fact that he himself does the work (rather than sending out a subcontractor) is greatly appreciated.
