I really hate to give this 5 stars, because the rule is that the best Chinese food is 3.5 but I don't care! Great Cantonese cooking! Their baked buns are phenomonal! Their other Dim Sum is really good too. The broth they use for their soups is really good too -- so you can't go wrong whether you're having Won Ton Soup, Sizzling Rice, Hot and Sour or Egg Flower -- treat yourself to a soup before you eat! MAR2026 Still a mixed bag but some good and some that still missed. We got food delivery on a craving, and I had never had the restaurant side of things for their food. We had gotten chicken chow mein, mongolian beef, eggplant and tofu clay pot, sauteed string beans, pea shoots, turnip cake, and egg custard buns. The mongolian beef had pretty good flavor tho it tasted different from the norm. Different brown sauce of sorts. Still cooked well though since it worked in this case. The string beans and the eggplant/tofu clay pot were cooked well. I liked the flavors on them tho the clay pot needed stronger flavors. Usually for clay pots it would sit in the sauce and be practically enveloped in it. That and the chicken chow mein were both a bit bland unfortunately. The pea shoots had pretty good flavor and garlic but were a tad undercooked; hard to chew through. Turnip cake were decent, custard buns were still on the cold side. A quick trip to the microwave did wonders for the buns. Decent for the area but still hard to meet some of the marks for us. read more

It bothers me that I like this place so much. Mainly because the cost of dim sum at some restaurants is ridiculous. The fact that Hang Ah charges $8.45 for an order of har gaw or shu mai today when just a few years ago this dish was half the price at most dim sum spots puts a money chill in my very bones. But the fact is that their flavors are on point brings me back in the future. I had one of the best turnip cake dim sum I have ever tasted. Crispy fried with some great flavor through and through. I would order this dish every time I visit in the future. But I would also request that they sear it on both sides for optimum tastiness. The har gaw and fried squid were also full of flavor. I do think that in the future I would request the squid extra crispy as it was a bit undercooked and limp when it should be crispy af. :-) The spot is typical of Chinese restaurants in terms of ambiance and service. All in line with my expectation. My only complaint is paying near $50 for 2 orders of dim sum and one entree. I hate 2026 prices. read more

Had an amazing dim sum meal here today. I asked beforehand if the pea shoots were any good...and they said it was, so ordered it (recommend asking before ordering as this can be seasonal) with other tasty treats. The food came out quickly and delicious. The chive, shrimp dumplings were the star as they were packed with great flavors. The turnip cake, bean curd rolls, beef chow fun were yummy. The eggplant stuffed with shrimp was only so so. And we were too full to try the ha gow so ended up with a great other meal to take home. read more

To preface this, I took these pics after I started eating (lol) but I would say this place is pretty good. Over priced, absolutely because I suppose there isn't another dim sum place within 20 miles. Still we managed to escape with around 25$ per person and we were content with the amount of food. ( around 9$ per plate) We ordered the duck, Chinese donut in noodle roll (never seen before) shrimp noodle rolls, the dim sum chow fun and some shrimp chive pan fried balls. Expect to wait on weekends to be seated. Decent quality, but if you want cheap and good food just drive south into the city. this review is for their dim sum offerings only, if I went back I would try their lunch specials which seemed to be a good deal for a lot of takeout style food. read more

Now that I have been living in Santa Rosa for 2 years, I feel the need to update this review. First off, as of the writing of this review, Hang Ah is still the ONLY dim sum restaurant in all of North Bay. That includes Marin, Santa Rosa, Sonoma etc. And I still stand by what I said previously, it is quite decent. Is it the best dim sum in the world? No, for sure not. But, the fact that there is ONE and it is passably good, is amazing! Especially for those of us who are Chinese (and even more specifically, Cantonese) or asian living in the area. So I will say once again: if you are from San Francisco and you're passing by wine tasting, just be aware that it's not like the best in the world. If you've had all star dim sum, this isn't that, but it's SOMETHING. And for us living out here, it is amazing. I wanted to update my review because previously, I hadn't come for dinner. And for this gal, who was born in Hong Kong, having a place to have legit, real, cantonese style dishes brings so me so much gratitude. I've always had a complicated relationship with my Hong Kong heritage, but as I age, and heal, I've become more nostalgic and longing for that home taste. And so, to have a place that serves that in the town we've decided to settle in -- I just thank the heavens, because, it's not a given! Just to be clear, most Chinese American food is not what I grew up eating. Some of it is real Chinese food and some of it is not. And some of it is from other regions of China adapted to be Chinese American. Cantonese cuisine originates in Hong Kong and southern china. It's where dim sum comes from, but dinner has its own unique flavors too. Highlights: -Stir-fried Yi Mein - I get a slight cred nod by the staff when I order this, because no one else knows what the heck this is unless you're in-the-know. It's really quite a simple dish (if you get the plain). Yi mein is a kind of fluffy-ish noodle. Fluffier than your standard egg noodle, thinner than udon. It's stir-fried simply with some green onions, shitake mushrooms, and sprouts. It's stir fried with a light sauce, but not covered. It's strangely addictive. Until I had it here, I hadn't had yi mein in probably 10 years. It totally transported me. This is like deep menu stuff. Give it a try! -Soy-sauce stir-fried egg noodles - You can get this at lunch as well because it's on the dim sum menu. I have a specific memory of eating this in HK when I was very young. When you go to the beach, there are street vendors carrying bamboo buckets of this, and you can get some in a newspaper. This dish is simple like the yi mein. Stir-fried with sprouts and green onions and soy sauce. (Doesn't come in newspaper here) But just as delicious and addictive. -Eggplant and chicken with salted fish claypot - Warning: salted fish is not for everyone. Salted fish is a dried cured fish, that is then cut into little pieces and thrown into certain dishes like this one. It gives it an incredible umami taste that is quite fishy, but again, not for everyone. For example, my husband likes it, but my ex did not. (Both white and adventurous eaters). So try it at your own peril. This dish is not easily found, so I can't help it. They also have the cantonese classic, chicken and salted fish fried rice. Haven't had their version yet, but I'm sure I will crave it at some point and must get it. -House claypot - Seafood + cha siu + fried tofu. Incredible. The fried tofu was the star, it's exactly how you want it to taste. Soft on the inside, and the outside absorbs all the sauce. (Can't wait to try their eggplant + tofu claypot!) ....And the seafood is done perfectly. Squid is not overly chewy, etc. The only thing is I wish there was more sauce, much of the liquid thickened up in the hot claypot. It was a shrimp paste umami bomb of the first order. Just saying. Other notables: stir-fried peashoots, roasted duck (superb!), turnip cake is simple but addictive, rice-noodle wrapped donut (not what it's called on the menu, it's on the dim sum menu) It's honestly hard for me to not get what was mentioned above, so I haven't made it that far in the menu because I come back and just crave what I named. But definitely, I'm sure there's more great stuff that is authentically cantonese. And therefore, I had to update the review to 5 stars. Lastly, and this is really something important: They have good service. The staff is NICE. Which is different. Because honestly, HK people aren't known for being nice. In fact, most cantonese restaurants have lowered ratings because of service. Lots of complaints of "they totally ignored me" or "they were rude" even though the food is good. Though Hang-Ah Dim Sum doesn't have your traditional dim-sum cart type service, their food is exceptional and definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. The outside looks unassuming, but the inside is very clean and neat. Not too packed at noon on a Monday. Pros: - Favorite items: Chicken Claws, Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice, and baked bbq buns - The meat on the Chicken Claws was tender and easy to get off the bones. The claws were soaked in a sauce that was a perfect mix of sweet and savory. - Though the baked bbq buns could've used more filling, the bun itself was soft, fluffy, and warm, covered in a thin layer of sticky-sweet glaze that paired well with the sweetness of the chashu pork filling. Cons: - Shanghai Soup Dumplings are a skip. They seemed over-steamed, as the skin was sticking to the bottom of the dish and to other dumplings, causing them to rip easily and lose all their broth when you tried to pick them up. - Items like the sesame balls, the steamed egg custard buns, and the baked bbq buns could definitely use a lot more filling. read more

Time for some dim sum! When we arrived on this Thursday afternoon, the restaurant was pretty full. There was a large group of 11 sitting in the middle and other diners throughout the dining room but everything was handled promptly and efficiently like usual. We ordered: Shu mai Pork ribs in black bean sauce Har gow (shrimp dumplings) Shrimp stuffed eggplant Pea shoots (off regular menu) Hong Kong style chow mein with chicken (thin crispy noodles) Egg custard buns Everything came out steaming hot and it was hard to say which dish was our favorite because everything tasted so good. We have leftovers for tomorrow too! The new item we tried was the egg custard buns. They were light and springy and had a very delicate filling. We enjoyed them and would order again. We ordered take out on Saturday night from here, I was impressed by some of the food. The quality was good but still greasy. We enjoyed the 3 out of 6 dishes and everything was correct when we got home. Portion sizes were decent but would be bigger if we ate there. 3 dishes fell hard: The broccoli beef was way too soft & slimy they over cooked it. The crab puff rangoon was bad, not enough filling and the wrong shape, bland flavor with no taste of crab or cream cheese it was not seasoned. Walnut prawns were not fried and the sauce was just thick and not properly done, it tasted too much like mayo it was underwhelming for being the most expensive item. The food here is absolutely delicious. It is not salty and portions are pretty great for the price. I got some amazing steamed broccoli, shrimp, and chow mein. Everything was well executed and I definitely was a happy camper. I only ate half my meal so I was able to take the rest home and have it for lunch in the next day even reheated, the vegetables were still crisp and everything tasted amazing. I do think this place would have been better if I ate in. They do not really have a system for phone pickups. I went in and they don't have a counter, and no bag or sauces supplied to me when picking up. It is definitely more set up to come in and dine in. The food was average and tasty. Though meat tasted a little fishy. I would come back here and try something else as it was not bad at all. I got the lunch special with Mongolian beef and I was a little disappointed on the sizing, especially if I was paying $16 for this. Very good all the way around. The service was excellent even though they were fully booked and had lots if take-out orders. We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon our arrival. The food was also delicious. We ordered, at our table for 6, several dim sum, shrimp with orange and candied walnuts, kung pao chicken , sizzling rice soup and the best eggplant in garlic sauce I have ever had. The location is convenient just off hiway 101 in Santa Rosa. The building appeared to be a nicely remodeled A&W - funky on the outside but comfortable on the inside. The best way to test how good a Chinese restaurant is to order off the menu and that's what we did with a wet stir fry beef with flat noodle. It was full of the right sauce - thick and oyster flavored. The noodles tasted fresh and cooked just right. Was also craving dim sum so we got fried daikon, crispy and soft inside; fried to perfection. Also got flat noodles with Chinese donut inside, a dish that's hard to find even in sf restaurants; it satisfied the craving. Fast service and clean. The five stars are for the food ONLY. The downside of today's goto visit whereby I spent nearly $50.00, was as follows. As I waited for my order, another man also waiting for a togo order at the large table in which I was seated, and who came in after me, was provided lavish service in the way of a pot of tea and cup by a server. I'm sitting there wondering why he was served a beverage while I was not. There was another lady at the next table also waiting for togo, who did not get a beverage. Why? Is it because neither of us ladies were Chinese, or that we were simply women, rendering us unimportant? Could it have been that this man at my table was Santa Rosa entitled, you know, a big fish in a little bowl, resulting in preferential treatment? By the way and as we waited, when I said something to the man at my table about it, he was overly apologetic to me in an effort to compensate for waiter rudeness, which didn't help. Whenever I've gotten food togo from Hang Ah, I always leave a tip. But not today. I've seen Asian people do this at a laundry, where some SR businessman was catered to, while I waited in line behind him. The clerk was all smiles to him; then, when it was my turn, she became her usual perfunctory self. I love Hang Ah cuisine, but should I go back, especially after this review? Came here with a friend for dinner after work to try some dim sum. I didn't have any expectations going in, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. The restaurant was well-organized, and I liked the menu system where you circle the items you want. The food came out fairly quickly and was mediocre for dim sum. However, the service was not great. The staff seemed rushed and somewhat rude, pushing us to order quickly and bringing the bill before we were even finished eating. No one acknowledges you not even for a drink order. We waited for about 25 minutes before we asked someone to come over and wait on us. We were ready to walk and we were a table of 6. When we explained to them that we've been sitting here for a good half hour without any acknowledgment, his response was "we're very busy." We asked for more napkins and never received. Food - the food was decent. Good flavoring for the dishes. After a while the sweet over took the sour and it was too much. Drown it with rice. The wontons in the soup had great taste. We've been coming here for many years. I was happy to see new carpet since our last visit. My family came here for Mother's Day. I was out of town so missed the party. It's really fun to come with a group of people and order as many different dim sum dishes as you can. There's always something for everyone. One of my favorite dishes here is the sticky rice. Sometimes I just eat the outside but sometimes I want everything in the filling. Today was the first time I had baked bbq pork buns. They were delicious. Eggplant stuffed with shrimp. Stir fried soy sauce noodles pretty good but be warned, very, very oily. As was the eggplant. I'm sure we'll be back. After it's been close to two decades we've been dining here. Added a star for their serving staff improvement. Many years ago, the first time I came in, the staff barely spoke English and the ordering was a lot more chaotic. Now ordering is smoother and goes to the correct table. The staff's communication and service is much improved! I recommend the lunch specials they have. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Sonoma County. The food is delicious, the service is attentive with out being intrusive and the ambiance is very relaxed and comfortable. Until I found this place we used to drive into San Francisco or Oakland to enjoy Dim Sum. So happy to have such an excellent restaurant so close.
