Visiting UMASS with Son #1. Had wings, skins and a garden salad. The garden salad was surprisingly fresh and the dressing very good. The skins were solid. However, the wings were the thing here. We like them extra crispy and we had to send them back to get them done the way we like (I think the cook was afraid to overcook them.) In any case, the second time they were perfect and among the best wings we've had (ordered honey BBQ with an add'l side of medium level hot sauce which we poured over them.) They were close to perfect! They don't call it The Hangar for nothing; this place is cavernous with a large bar area, several large dining areas and a brewing area within the restaurant. We've been coming here ever since moving to the area and we really like it. For one because they have the best wings in the area, and also because they are open later than most restaurants. We actually came here on Valentines Day and just had a chill date night. Nothing fancy or crazy, just some delicious nachos, margaritas & Irish green Tea (my personal favorite here) Besides the wings and nachos the giant pretzel is also really good! Came out w friends for early Christmas dinner. We had fried pickles and cauliflower wings w garlic parmesan. These were both very good. Probably the best i have ever had. The batter Was awesome light very thin and not overly crunchy.My friends had the 747 boneless wings. 4 different flavors jet fuel,golden bbq,garlic parmesan rub and lemon pepper rub. They were superb. I had the mac daddy sandwich w sweet potato fries. The fries came out cold but sandwich was hot. They took whole plate back to make fresh fries but then it came back and sandwich was luke warm. It ended up to be a bit dry on the pork and mac and cheese was cold. However the server named Max was very good and patient with all my questions. Very attentive and came back many times to check on us and things. I've been a patron of The Hangar for about 2 years now. I must say that in every department this business lives up to any expectation you could have. Amherst brewing produces some of the best beer in the state in my opinion. Got charged $1.50 extra for having my Impossible burger NOT come with bacon (yes, they charged me more for ordering the exact same thing minus bacon; I'm a vegetarian, thus I didn't want the bacon). Last time I'll be going there and will not be purchasing their beer any more from any local stores. This has been our go to spot for a decade! Super quick service, very nice new location. It's huge! They have indoor games, pool tables, and arcades. The new Hangar/Amherst Brewing collaboration is one of those tag team partnerships you only dream of. It's like Hulk Hogan & The Ultimate Warrior teaming up. Wings have been 5 stars since long before 5 stars was even a thing. It's actually amazing that they've maintained greatness for as long as they have. The first one I bit into had a piece of rib or wing bone in it and the second one had a big piece of cartilage. This place needs to up their ante when it comes to quality control and standards. Trekked out to the Amherst location because Valley Advocate said they had the best wings in the area. Bartender guy was nice and willing to recommend things which I appreciate. I had a beer while I waited for my to-go order of 18 wings with a Garlic Parm rub, and two sauces. The order is called F-16 keeping with the aviation theme but clearly shows there should be 18 wings. Nothing better than good wings. Bone in or bone out the hangar is the Don of all wing joints in the western mass. I'm typically a Wings Over guy being that I go to school in Springfield but I was visiting my buddy in Amherst and we swung by here for an early dinner. Right away when you walk in this place is all that and a bag of chips. Classic arcade games line right wall. There are 2 or 3 undersized pool tables (4 quarter tables) too. Probably the coolest thing about the hangar is the option to "rent" a beer mug from the local brew company and you can try up to 12 beers on tap right from the wall. I think it maxes out at 32 ounces. As far as food, the wings were all good. I got three flavors of a pound and a half of boneless wings. The sweet chili was a little hotter than I expected. Honey BBQ was classic and delicious. The wimpy wings were good for me, I'm not into hot wings so I'm a bad reviewer as fast as their hot scale. Also got the loaded waffle fries and drowned them in ranch... AMAZING. As far as service goes out waitress Hannah was excellent. She made the wonderful suggestion of trying there in House root beer which was a great chance of pace. Even with a full section she was very attentive and very knowledgeable of their menu and all the different wing flavors. It felt like we were her only table - excellent service. This has always been my favorite spot for wings! They have my favorite boneless/bone in wings around! Fantastic variety of flavors, sauces and dry rubs, hot or mild! They also have a beer tap wall full of Amherst Brewing's delicious beer offerings that you pour yourself and are charged by the ounces poured which is awesome! The rest of the menu you items are pretty standard bar food fair, aside from the ribs which are fantastic! The establishment itself is a fun college town sports bar atmosphere with plenty of arcade games, pool tables, bean bag toss and such on the opposite side of where the seating and bar is located. The wait staff are always friendly and the bar tenders are attentive. Never had an issue here even when it was located down the street at it's much smaller location. I've tried this place three different times because of the previous statement, and the wings are slimy and low quality. I'm convinced people's standards for comparisons on chicken wings are wing dings at local house's of pizza. I read one extremely long review about how incredible their honey mustard is. Came here for the first time with my boyfriend and his friends. This was my first time in Amherst so I was really excited to try out the local food. When we walked into the place was a bit disorienting. You could go right of the front desk which looked like pool tables and arcade games. There were a lot of people over there. We went to the left of the desk which was tables in a large space. We were sat in a booth in the very back. We ordered drinks and wings to share. The server was very friendly and bubbly. I got a burger which was huge. Our friends got a mix of salads, sandwiches, and bar snacks. Most of us had to take some home because it was so filling. I would not say the food was remarkable, honestly, it was pretty much your average bar food. I also was not that impressed with the dining atmosphere. It didn't feel special to me. I feel like if we were on the other side, it may have been a different experience. As we were heading out, we bought some beer from the case that is brewed by the company. Forty five minute wait for our food, burger temps were wrong, soggy cold bread, no water refill, cold fries, and it took forever to get our waitperson back to our table so we could send our food back. Oy vey. The new location makes me feel old, and nostalgic, but mostly just nostalgic. Things have changed quite a bit since the location moved across the street. It's now a large wanna-be uppity bar with an arcade on one half. All tables are high top and you have the option to have a waitress (bar) or to order at the counter (arcade). I made a joke about how crammed (still loved it) the old location was and the four 18 year old hostesses had no idea what I was talking about. Sigh. The food has gone terribly down hill, and I am sad to say the wings are not good any more. The prices went up and the service and quality went down. Even the beers were bad - they tasted like they were from skunked kegs or maybe the lines had not been cleaned. I was a bartender for 8+ years and I know this was definitely a quality control issue in the walk-in. The whole "Wings over" situation seemed to be a good resolution for folks that wanted wings to go, but now they can go in to this empty warehouse and order them from a fancy looking bar. Or you can opt to eat in without a waitress but they still expect a tip? We won't be back here any time soon. I'm so sad to see a landmark go down the drain the way they have. read more

One of my favorite places to hang and chill with friends. Love the food. The Reuben and fried chicken sandwiches are the best I ever have. They have a large space and house many people. It can be loud and poppin especially on a big sports night. Music is fun and customers can request songs with an app and jukebox. There's a big section on the side that has old arcade games and pool tables and thats a big plus for me. I like to wander over with friends after I've eaten and had a few drinks to play some games and sober up some before going home. Prices are reasonable, and staff is friendly! The things that really disappoint me about the place are the cocktails/mixed drinks. They are sorely watered down. Barely any alcohol to juice/mixer ratio. Sometimes I cant even taste it. I'm a big lightweight, trust me, but I can barely get a buzz from a mixed drink made here when I could from a single beer. I'm sure its a tactic to exact more money from customers looking to get drunk from mixed drinks. And now I never get them anymore and stick to beer. I mean I really like the flavors of mixed drinks/cocktails they offer, but I really dont want just juice when I order them, because frankly it becomes overpriced juice. A couple times my drink orders have been forgotten and brought to me a long time after I've ordered them. A few times(when I'm seated at a table) I've seen the drink be made and left on the bar for someone to take and it sitting there for a long time. Maybe I should have pointed it out, but a lot of times I'm shy and dont like to confront waiters. And for some reason, and it's only here at the Hangar, but Blue Moon beer always tastes different and way more...I'm not sure what to call it...stale? Bitter? Not as full flavored? Bottom of keg? It's my favorite beer, and I'd like to think I know what it tastes like, but for some reason its often not very good when I get it from the Hangar. Visiting Amherst (ma), this place was close by and it was late, so why not give it a shot, right? Andy R, our waiter, was rude from the beginning. Took our order, got some fried jalapeño as a starter. Laughably TERRIBLE! Boneless wings oversized and undersauced. Ribs were ok, AT BEST. I'd say that the best part was the celery sticks and the glasses of water that came with their own straws. That was nice of them. Andy's over all demeanor was rude when taking the order and less than professional during the whole service. No courtesy was shown. Not so much of a smile and he just snatched up our card while giving us the side eye when we were ready to pay the bill. I understand that people have their off days and I am no way assuming that all waiters should be fluffy balls of sunshine. But some sort of politeness is expected in any service industry. This is my go to place if I am craving for chicken when I am in Amherst. I usually get the DC-3 which is half pound boneless chicken. It is only 7 dollars and you can choose from over 20 different flavors! From Sweet Onion BBQ to Garlic Parmesan.. the restaurant has it all!! In addition, the waffle fries are amazing! It tastes even better with the West Texas Mesquite seasoning. The West Texas Mesquite seasoning is a bbq flavored dry rub spice. I have had the bbq ribs and I was not impressed. It tasted very bland and not memorable. So I would only come here for the chicken and waffle fries! read more

What a disappointment. We should have turned around when we got to the first set of glass doors on our way in, because they were filthy. As were the second set. But we kept going. Once at the table, the ketchup dispenser was also filthy. It was so nasty I had to clean it because just looking at it made me sick at my stomach. We both had burgers and fries. Both were meh... The burgers were not grilled, more like baked and the fries were just crinkle cut frozen fries that tasted like they were cooked in dirty grease. The temperature in the restaurant was 42 degrees. LITERALLY. We froze the whole time we were in there. We asked to pay when our food was delivered so that we could eat and leave quickly. GET THE WINGS We got two sets of half pounds because we wanted to try a couple of the options. We wish we ordered another set because the two: honey BBq and Crusin' Alt. (Sort of medium buffalo) was awesome! We got pork sliders and oven face turkey sandwich. Both were delicious. Fries were under sandwich so they got covered in heavenly-gravy and sauce; perfection is all we could think of. They also had beer sampler station. So cool! The Amherst brews were solid too. Tried Jess which heard was a local fav IPA, super tasty with lite bite. And the Worthy (Pilsner) super bright notes and smooth finish. I left there was a can of each type to try at home. If you're looking to just hear about the food, it's 5/5. their dry rub cajun blackened wings were great, potato bombs are decent but who's really going here to eat potatoes? me. but theirs wings are indeed good. Some interesting other facts: if you order a 4pc potato bomb with pulled pork, they told me later that that wasn't available, but the 6pc was. Not sure that's how math works but OK. i downgraded to a 4pc regular potato bomb becuase i am just one man and can not eat 6. if you order food to go, and once you get there at the time it was said to be ready, they will forget to put your order in, print out the ticket and run it to the kitchen in front of you, and now it's awkward to even be in the building at this point. once you get your food, they will forget to ask you to pay. this is almost a bonus for those who are interested in free food ( lookin at you college students ). when you tell them that you haven't paid and they tell you the total, they will tell you the total of your order prior to it being changed, charging you more than what my illogically forced modified order would have cost. you will then be able to leave with a clear moral conscious, approximately 30 minutes after ordering when they told you it would be 20, but to add salt into the wound they also said that it would probably not even take the full 20 minutes. i am just one man and can not get my hopes up like that. i would probably come back to eat in but if the communication between the front and the kitchen continues like this then then you'll just have to be patient with the employees just so they can get your order almost right. read more

I've gotten takeout twice from this place twice. Yes, the wings are cheap, but you get what you pay for. The bone-in wings come from poor quality, overly enlarged( pumped with solution), artificially fed chickens. Yes, most restaurants use pumped, non free range chicken, but as a restauranteur - it's obvious that the hangar's wings are terrible quality. In addition, both times I ordered the bone-in wings, some of the wings still had feathers on them - nasty! Once when we ordered delivery, the wings were two - three levels too hot from what we ordered. When we called back the rude employee passed the phone to the rude manager who refused to accept that we received the wrong order. Diners beware! read more

Very busy college bar. Waitress took care of us well. Good beer list. Typical bar menu. My complaints may seem petty but here they are. 1. The waitress made an announcement to the table at large that they don't do split checks because it is too difficult. If you have such a policy fine, but to say it is too difficult sounds disingenuous. Other restaurants seem to do just fine splitting checks. In fact, I find this to be part of the servers job, helping patrons figure out the bill. To announce that you don't do it because it is hard is basically saying "I have too many tables to give you the proper attention!" I was a server in college. It never would have occurred to me to refuse a request to split a check because I saw it as a necessary adjunct to the job. 2. The food was mediocre. It was bar food. Nothing special, wings were good, but forgettable, nachos good, but unimpressive, and the chili that they are so proud of tasted like my high school cafeteria chili. If you eat here, make sure you count the wings that they give you. We ordered an F16 (supposed to have 15 wings), and there were 14 wings. No big deal, there must be a mistake. Then, tonight there were 12! Both were takeouts, so I couldn't really do anything. Anyway, out of frustration I called them, you know, just to get some closure. The girl at the phone goes, "so what do you want me to do, tell the manager, tell the kitchen?" I was like "Do what you have to, as it is frustrating". Looking at the photos on YELP, we thought this was a place with a bunch of arcade machines and some typical bar food, assuming it was mainly a place for 20 somethings. We are in our 50's with a student at UMass. I'd read bad reviews of Hanger Pub several years ago, but the ratings have gone up and decided to give it a try. We dined here on a Wednesday night after dropping our daughter off at school early. It was busy, and I imagine they get swamped when the college students return. Upon entering, the sign said, "seat yourself." Now I understand why because it's obvious this place is huge! There are several rooms, one being a room with arcade games, another with tables, the bar area, and the brewery. It was interesting to see the vats and bags of hops. Oh, don't forget to check out the statue in the brewery. The restaurant is dark and has that bar/pub vibe but is very energetic. I wondered if it was a good place for children but walking in; I saw a room that had mostly families with kids. TV's were everywhere in the bar room, so if you want to catch the game, you won't struggle to see it. Service was perfect, and I mean that! We didn't have one issue. Our server, Eliza (?) was so nice and professional! She took our drink order and gave us some beer to sample, which we enjoyed and ordered on our second round. Apps started off with mozzarella sticks. They came out piping hot, and the marinara sauce was good. My husband ordered the ribs and pulled pork. I ordered a bowl of chili. Everything was delicious. My chili was obviously homemade and semi-spicy. It had some nice chunks of fresh tomatoes, diced peppers, beans, ground beef, cheese, and tortilla chips. I also ordered a side of sour cream. The ribs and pork came out hot and were tender and covered in sauce. If you like your ribs dry, I would suggest asking for sauce on the side. The only thing my husband didn't like was the Texas toast, but that's just him! We left there kicking ourselves for not dining at Hanger Pub sooner. It's an easy left turn past Johnny's Diner coming into Amherst on University Drive. It will be on your right. We loved the fact that it was a private lot.
