My friend suggested this place since it's her favorite crawfish place in her area. It's pretty casual but inside it's very dark. Very hole in the wall atmosphere. We decided to get one pound of crawfish each. She chose spicy cajun and I picked the spicy garlic butter for seasoning. We also picked a dish out from the lunch specials. I ordered the fried shrimp and cajun fried rice. The shrimp were fried well and were not greasy and the fried rice was not bad either. It came with some of their house made hot sauce. Delicious! Good heat and tang when I poured it over the rice. My friend ordered the red beans and rice with fried shrimp. No complaints from her. I've ate a ton of crawfish already this season and I know what to expect. Their crawfish was indeed fresh and not frozen. But I found several crawfish with broken tails and most of the batch was overcooked since the tails were super rubbery. Not worth the $7.19 per pound listed. Spicy here feels like extra spicy... I could barely handle it. Service was very good. The ladies were friendly and checked on us frequently. Better off ordering anything else than the crawfish. The food is really good but the customer service sucks!! My friends got the wrong order one of them started eating. My second friend noticed and told the waiter they switched the orders and she asked for her sausage and potatoe. The waiter told my friend to get it from our other friend bowl after she ate out of it. My friend said she didnt want it since she had been digging out the bowl. I dont blame her. Ive been going to hanks at different locations for 3 years now.I've tried other places like crawfish & noodles and boiling crab, but places like these have a fusion taste that I wouldn't say bad, but not my cup of tea. Jollyn's also had a cockroach .I like the traditional taste to my crawfish. On top of that, who charges for mayo and butter at a restaurant? Hank's isn't stingy with their condiments and very friendly with their customers. The place feels homey,it has lots of room. Overall, this place is a good place to go if you are looking for affordable good food with great customer service alone or with your family.This hanks has everything. My sister kept bragging about how good the crawfish were. So I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the crawfish etoufee and gumbo as an appetizer and my usual 5 pound of crawfish and my wife ordered 2 lbs. Right away I told my wife that the crawfish tasted reheated and I asked her about hers since we had different flavors. She said hers tasted reheated or over cooked. She didn't know? Only complaint is there was a long wait just for pickup and when i paid for my food my order was ready which i wasn't aware of so i was sitting there for 15mins without any knowledge that my order was ready. So I tried Hanks the other day because all of my friends told me they were the best crawfish place in town. Well let me say a little something about my experience. First off the place atmosphere is nice. Very befitting of a Cajun restaurant. Second the waitress who I totally forgot her name is adequately nice. She did seem a little aggravated but to me she provided good customer service. So overall the restaurant is good. Now food came and it didn't take too long. I'm one of those that feel like if the food take too fast to cook it might not be that good. Boy was I wrong it was good. My reason for the 4 star is that although the place is good. My mom and I decided to give this place a try tonight since I am a Cajun food fanatic. I ordered the crawfish etoufee, and she ordered the seafood bisque, both listed under the "Hank's Specialties" section on the menu. The food arrived in a decent amount of time, but when the waitress walked up, both dishes looked like they had the exact same thing inside. I've had a LOT of crawfish etoufee in my time, but never etoufee the consistency of soup. Actually, it was thinner than my mother's bisque. There was a somewhat small scoop of white rice in the center (isn't crawfish etoufee supposed to come with dirty rice?), but not enough to help with the lack of consistency. Upon tasting it, I was overwhelmed with the first sensation, almost citrus-like. I believe it was an ungodly amount of sage. Once that passed, there was virtually no flavor. Mom's bisque, which really the only difference seemed to be that it was a little thicker and had sausage, was slightly better, but neither one of us ate even half of our meals. Even the "garlic bread", which was little more than buttered and toasted French bread, was very appealing. It was bad enough that we went and sought out food elsewhere. My wife had the catfish and shrimp and said the catfish was very good with the Cajun tartar sauce. The shrimp was just ok she said. The prices were very reasonable in my opinion. we ate here last night since my pregnant daughter was craving some "live" boiled crawfish, and I was super disappointed. This is not fresh crawfish at all, and I can bet on it. This is frozen and tastes exactly the same as the cf from EStar Chinese buffet. I can bet on that without fearing to loose anything. I asked the waitress, "was this live crawfish?" and she stuttered and said, "do you mean if it was alive prior to us cooking it" and I nodded as she answered yes, because I know for a fact that this is not fresh and live crawfish. The crawfish was tough, the meat stuck to the tail, it wouldn't pull out clean and the meat was dry, not juicy at all. The crawfish shell was black and old looking, and the same flavor from the EStar buffet. I can't believe someone actually serves frozen crawfish. SMH. I should have read the reviews prior to eating out there because other people have posted complaints about it being frozen and not fresh. Also, our crawfish was served before out appetizer, boudin balls which were not bad. Then the boiled shrimp was served as we were almost done with the crawfish, and it was slightly overcooked. Their crawfish and fish is delicious! What turns good food into a bad experience is when the service is horrible. I would never invite anyone or sit there to eat. I have been to hanks a lot for crawfish because the seasoning is perfect and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't go at all. I have sat down to eat the waitress are not attentive you're waiting too long for a refill the order is always messed up. Once that happen I started ordering to go and still had to wait after calling in to place order. End up being like the customers at the table that been there for awhile just waiting on food. This is one of my go too places when I want crawfish/shrimp or crab. Prices are reasonable. Food is seasoned and flavorful. You can choose the spiciness of your shrimp/crawfish/crab legs. Our waitress was sitting down eating when we sat down, and decided to try to finish her food before she came to take our order. We get our food, and my crawfish is great, my husbands food was awful. We let our waitress know we were going to step outside for just a second, and not to take our food. We come back in and our food is gone, so they make it again and this time my crawfish is TERRIBLE. We recently had Lunch at Hanks, but before I could write a review, I had to go through the reviews first; to check all of the one star ratings. I wanted to make sure that what happened during our visit hadn't been the case of other patrons. It had, and hopefully will not be repeated by other Yelper's. This location of Hank's is unsatisfactory and should be avoided at all cost if possible. We purchased 5lbs of crawfish, they were previously frozen, mealy, the tail meat disintegrating into mush before it could be extracted from the shell. I began to eat an oyster (a cooked oyster no less)the smell hit my nose before I tasted it, you could tell it had turned. My mother did not find any fault with her fried fish dinner, though and said it was satisfactory. The staff is inattentive at best, they don't do comebacks and you need to get there attention while there on the way to their next table. We asked for our crawfish mildly spiced, they were served so hot with spice my wife and I began choking. We could not finish them and had to take them with us. The cook was apparently not the same the day before. The rice was overcooked, the boudain was cooked improperly because the casing was all mushy. Always enjoyed my experience and food when I've eaten here. I love my crawfish to be juicy, which this location does well! I absolutely hate when it's apparent all a cook did was boil the crawfish in pure water, then sprinkle some seasoning on top. Try this place out if you're looking for flavorful crawfish. I love spicy food, so I usually order the Extra Spicy. If you dare, try the New Orleans Spicy. It's good, but HOT! I'd test it out by ordering a pound, first.The only other items we've tried are the boudin balls and po-boys, which are worth checking out.
