The plumber unclogged my bathroom sink drain and drained some water from my water heater. Black pieces about an inch long clogged the spout for the heater. He thought maybe these were parts of a decaying anode rod but was not sure. He charged me a fair price for what he did, but I wish he would have finished the job. We were required to replace our old water heater every 7 years. Hansen's was quick to reply, the tech was out quickly for a fair estimate. Thankfully we had taken pictures of the old water heater for size purposes. The technician arrived early, replaced the water heater, accidentally broke the cold water valve and needed to call the office for advice? By this time our HOA was involved. No problem the job was complete. We specifically asked if they would haul away the old water heater. They said yes, as you can see below, he took it to our dumpster which is not allowed. An email brought a sales manager? the next morning. to pick it up. Funny thing was, the technician denied it was ours. Ahh we have the fotos of the original which of course matched. We have used Hansen several times and had pleasent experiences. Our big issue is the actual quality of work. We had them come out to replace an old garbage disposal and very soon afterwards, it was not working again but they replaced it for free as it was under warranty. This week, the new one stopped working but it was no longer under warranty so we would need to pay to have it fixed. We decided to try a different company, as the leak they had fixed was also leaking again. The technician from the other company immediately said our issue was not the equipment but that the disposal was installed wrong. I thought I should update my review since I've used Hansen Plumbing a lot lately. They installed a new kitchen sink, disposal and faucet last August. Due to some manufacturer defects (I won't mention the manufacturers since they tried hard to rectify the situation) we went through 4 sinks, 2 disposals and 3 faucets due to various defects. A big shout out to Mark Lawson with Hansen who did the bulk of the work and had to come out repeatedly to redo everything over a 6 month period. It was truly the project from he!! and I'm so relieved to have it finally be over. The only bright spot during the whole thing was Hansen. I was able to schedule thru text message and they were always understanding, positive and patient and they prioritized my constant needs. I don't have everyone's names but Dick, Jennifer, Noah, and Dillon are some of the Hansen family members that added some sanity to an insane situation. They sent me a booking text, reminder, and let me know when they were on the way with a picture and information on the technician as well. This review is for the repair service that took place on 10/11/2023 completed by Preston M. The issue: We had a corroded and leaked galvanized steel riser that serviced our house. The riser was angled 90 degree for about 3' at the bottom end to T up with the PVC water main. So as prep work we dug up the ground to expose and to remove the steel pipe joining the water main, cut out the coupler and removed the riser. We were hoping it would be less work for the tech and cheaper. Nope. The good: From the moment I picked up the phone to search on yelp, to decide on calling Hansen Family, to talk to the scheduler gal, to receive a confirmation email/text appointment for next day from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, to receive a pre-arrival technician bio text the next morning were nothing short of pleasant, assuring, and relieved. So Preston arrived at 8:04 AM (not knocking just stating for the review) and was professional. Nice guy. We walked him to the side of the house, and explained how far we attempted to fix the issue and will need help the rest of the way. He explained how he will repair it (see "After" picture for his final work) and quoted us $1425. Final price was $1325 with $100 discount. He said he would be there 3-4 hours. ok. The bad: The PRICE and 1 thing not matching with what the tech said during quoting and what the invoice said--will get to that later. I have a pet peeve for things not lining up afterward. So Preston was completely done by 10:30 AM including 20-30 minutes of waiting for the glue to dry up before turning the water back on. He did good work. No issue so far. Crossing my fingers. But how is 2.5 hours (if you fairly start from the moment he arrived at 8:04 AM) totaled up to $1325. If they are charging by the hour plus gas, overhead, parts, etc., that would come out to 441$/hour for 3 hours minimum? yikes. We did most of the prep work by digging up the hole and removing the existing pipes. 441$ is more than what doctor and engineer make. Or he just came up with the $1425 ($1325 final) by experience? I feel that there should be a more transparent way to come up with the price. I know I know its their business I don't have to accept the deal. Just a hard pill to swallow. Oh yes during the quoting conversation, Preston said the warranty for parts/labor/his work is 2 years but the invoice said 1 year. So which one is it? I can't prove the conversation so I guess the invoice is the final binding? One last thing that annoyed me is I asked if Preston could cover the hole that we dug up afterward and he wanted to do it for $5. Dam after quoting me 1425$ you trying to squeeze more-for 5 measly bucks? To be FAIR to Preston, he did ask if I want to cover it at the end, whether for free or for 5$ I don't know-I didn't ask. Final thoughts: I agreed to the price so I will live with it. A business is about making money but when everything is about money is a turn off. When you are in a rush to get water back you are incline to agree to anything. Plumbers know it. Its a expensive trade. Next time I will get more quotes. Lesson learned. read more

At that point he informed me that an 8 year old unit in Arizona past its life expectancy and fixing it won't make it last much longer. Another plumbing company came out and had told me that my water heater was completely shot and needed to be changed ASAP. He also convinced me to switch to a tankless system. The quote I was given was $6100, and this other technician told me that my tank could go any day now. The next day I called Hansen Family Plumbing & Air for a second opinion. I used Hansen Family Plumbing last year when I had an issue with my water heater and sprinkler supply valves (they all had to be replaced, and the technician did a great job at a fair price). The next visit was about 2 months ago for an AC tune-up, which once again went fine (he even washed out the coils). This time the issue was that my AC started heating the house instead of cooling it. I have a heat pump, so I assumed it was an issue with the reversing valve or solenoid. Since I've had good luck with Hansen I decided to go with them again. I called on Tuesday night and they gave me an appointment on Thursday but called Wednesday morning and were able to come over in the early afternoon on Wednesday. My technician was Nels, he arrived in a shiny new van and got straight to work on the roof. He identified the issue quickly as not the valve, but my thermostat, whose time had apparently come to an end after 27 years. He bypassed it and the unit started working as before. Rather than selling me a thermostat they helped me pick out a good one on Amazon for same day delivery. We then turned off the circuit breaker and they put it all back the way it was before. All I had to do was wire the new thermostat when it arrived. To help me out with that we took a picture of the wiring on the current thermostat and marked it up to make sure I put the correct color wire on the correct terminals. They even checked that my c-wire was working (my previous thermostat did not use it and needed batteries which has always been a pain). Lastly, they installed a new filter for me in my very high ceiling. The thermostat arrived later that night, I installed it, flipped the breaker, and everything worked! So, the great news is that the $199 service call fee covered the entire charge. Obviously issues like this one could be used to scam homeowners out a lot of $$$, but Nels and his teammate were great. I have used this company twice in the last 3 months. Scheduling on Yelp is super easy and friendly. First experience went ok with the only exception the AC tech was late and I did not receive a call. However once he reached he did do an excellent job and answered a few questions I had about my AC. I paid in cash and also received a military discount. The price was very fair. The second job required a plumbing tech. Water from my sink was back flowing into the dishwasher. The tech mentioned a few issues so we both agreed to start with the most basic solution first. The tech showed up on time and was very easy to communicate with. He did not charge me for this service. I was emailed a quote of the cost for the second recommendation before he left. I had Hansen come out and install a new built-in bidet toilet. Their customer service and timely response out the gate were much appreciated when I was getting quotes for the service, and they were also the lowest price in the area relative to the other quotes I received. They had a tech come out, review my supply line and the new toilet, then they wrote a quote to install the bidet toilet. The install process was a bit bumpy, the technician that arrived was not aware that it was a bidet toilet due to a miscommunication in their scheduling system it appears, and he was not very familiar with that style of toilet. The install was left somewhat incomplete, however once I brought up my concerns to the office, the project manager at Hansen contacted me, made things right for the inconvenience, and also got a tech to come out quickly to finish the job. My 16-year old water heater has been on the fritz recently (intermittently stops providing hot water), and I had a theory that it was related to scale buildup from hard water and put out a request. Hansen Family responded to my Yelp project request in minutes and asked if I wanted someone sent out day-of (I actually requested the next day because that was way sooner than I was expecting.) The next day, Robert came out to inspect the water heater. Ahead of his arrival, Hansen sent over a picture of Robert and a bio - I never would have thought to do this, but it made me way more comfortable as the person who acts as the household point of contact for techs. Robert flushed and descaled the system, and mentioned a program that Hansen offers that discounts services and provides an inspection of plumbing throughout the house. We've been meaning to have the plumbing inspected, so I was happy to bundle that in to the water heater maintenance. I'm a curious person (... maybe annoyingly so) - I followed him around asking questions. (If we installed an RO system could we run it to the fridge? Do you need an RO system if you do carbon filtration? Are outdoor spigots connected to the house? Who maintains fire sprinklers?) He was happy to answer all of them, and shared some great stories about situations he had encountered in the field. Super friendly guy! The idea that the water heater needed to be descaled was just my best guess as someone unfamiliar with water heaters, and Robert was transparent that while descaling the system might help, in his professional opinion it probably wasn't the cause of the issue. (Unfortunately he was right, and the issue was not resolved - but he did a great job setting expectations so we weren't upset by the outcome.) My water heater (Noritz) wasn't a model Hansen installs or services, but Robert said the unit itself was great and wasn't pushy about replacing my existing water heater. He even offered to look for OEM replacement parts for a noisy exhaust fan - for those of you who aren't familiar with servicing obsolete equipment, that can be a HUGE undertaking. He provided an estimate for a replacement as well as an estimate for a water softener - I don't think their website reflects it, but Hansen does install/maintain water softeners and filtration systems, which I was happy to hear. My one critique is with their estimate system: I was told upfront that they use a flat-rate price book system (which can feel a little shady for people who are used to detailed estimates with lots of line items - but from what I understand, it's becoming more common in the industry.) However, the number was a flat $X,000 number, which had Arrested Development "how much could a banana cost, $10?" vibes that felt a little off. Additionally, I've worked in technical equipment sales, so on quotes/estimates I'd expect to see components broken out with information like make/model number - which still should be possible with flat-rate pricing; you just bundle pricing and don't put individual prices for components. The water softener estimate listed out features/advantages of the system (which in my opinion doesn't belong on an estimate), but it contained so little relevant information that I wasn't clear on whether I was being quoted on just a water softener or a water softener AND carbon filter system. If it's only a softener, it's pretty expensive. I also requested info like manuals/install guides/tech specs for the water heater and water softener systems and it sounds like they don't keep those on hand, which was a little odd to me. Overall great customer experience, but I feel that their pricing could be more transparent with respect to estimates providing more relevant information and less sales jargon. read more

I had a dripping showerhead and needing the cartridge in the shower handle replaced. I did my best to get it done myself and then I broke off the cartridge due to a buildup of calcium and magnesium inside the handle. Dan came out to help me help me chisel out the remaining, corroded parts of the old cartridge and then help me get a new one installed which took some doing because they needed to take an emery cloth and really clean out all of the buildup that was inside of the chamber.
