Went here on a Friday night with some friends. Got seated and had to wait for a while to get our orders taken. Ordered a pitcher of beer and looked at the menu. Decided to try the large combo and a whole fried chicken. Also ordered Kim chee that was $3 each. First time I've ever paid for Kim chee but oh well. The food was pretty salty and the portions being on the small side. Got our check and saw that we were double charged on our side dishes. Told our server and she corrected our check. I try to be as accommodating as possible when it comes to restaurants so I never try to go too close to closing especially because I work at a Korean restaurant in Irvine as well. But I tried to dine here with my sister and we arrived at the restaurant at 11 an hour before closing and was told they already did last call. It's disappointing because they still had plenty of open tables and were actively taking an order of another party. I get running last call but an hour before closing is a bit much. At the end of the day they lost service I will gladly spend my money where it is wanted. read more

i was so excited to check out hanshin pocha since it just opened in irvine, but i was pretty disappointed. the vibe inside was well, not a vibe when we walked in; there was no music playing and inconsistent lighting. the service was super inconsistent; we had a mix-up with tables after requesting to move (because our first table had blinding lights), and none of the staff helped us move our cups and plates - it looked like we were working a shift with them! the food was also inconsistent; the oden-tang was horribly bland and worse than what i make at home, and while the dakbal was good, we still had issues! our order for the dakbal didn't go through, so we ended up getting it super late. i expected to have the dakbal comped (since by that point we were just drinking straight soju and waiting for food), but instead they gave us a couple cans of soda and called it a day. i came with three girlfriends; we were the youngest ones there, but i'd like to think the service experience was not prejudiced. i hope hanshin pocha will iron out these kinks as time passes and the team gets more comfortable with the new restaurant, but for now, i wouldn't recommend. read more

Great late night spot for big gatherings and intimate hang outs. The chicken feet is definitely a must try, the sauce is amazing with the rice balls, and another favorite is the grilled squid that's perfectly charred. The service is prompt and it's easy to flag a server down with the help of the bell. They carry Sang, which is a local brewed Korean rice wine, we love supporting local businesses and you truly can taste the freshness compare to the imported ones. Overall, one of my favorite spots to go when most of Irvine closes at 9pm! read more

Definitely a very unique dinner spot. Love the selection of street foods. Perfect place for friends just have a good time. The environment can get very loud bc of people laughing, drinking and chatting along with the music. My favorite was the squid with thin noodles! My goodness, it was spicy and very rich in flavor. We got thin noodles to go to eat with the leftovers! The tomato egg roll thing was also very interesting. The gizzard was just as expected, a little kick from the fresh peppers, but is on the more oily side. Lastly the chicken dish with the onion salad was very strong, raw and mustardy but excellent taste. Service was good as you just push the bell for service so it was very efficient and quick. The only thing is that DO NOT expect the wait times on Yelp to be accurate. I have heard so much about Hanshin Pocha by BeakJongWon, and when I saw an Instagram post about its new location in Irvine, I just knew I had to come try. Me and my friend arrived around time they just opened so we were seated right away. The menu looked amazing, and we decided to order their famous Hanshin Dakbal and a side of diy rice ball in case it was too spicy. Dakbal was served over a lighter cube, which purpose I assume, would've been to keep the dish warm throughout the meal. The fire from the lighter cube was too strong, however, and burned the Dakbal from the middle. It was a thick stew, so by the time we smelled the strong burnt smell all over the food, it was too late to salvage the dish. I burnt my hand from the dish while trying to put off the fire with the cover. It would've been nice if the server let us know earlier to put off the fire or, better yet, helped turn off the fire before burning the dish. However, it seemed all the servers were a bit aloof and weren't adequately trained as they struggled to answer simple questions about the menu. Feeling a bit disappointed, we decided to order another dish called Pork Mozzarella Cheese Fondue. I thought this would've been a fail proof dish because you never go wrong with spicy pork and mozzarella cheese. By the time we ordered this, the restaurant started to pack full with dinner customers, and servers seemed to have forgotten about us. After what seemed like about 40 minutes later, we finally got our last dish. It was... okay.. cheesy, porky, little spicy, and salty. Nothing impressive.. Rice ball was plain and sweet for some reason, which missed the mark for me as well. Overall: Unimpressive service and disappointing food. This place does not live up to the hype at all, and I will not be coming back nor recommend it to anyone. Unless you just want nice Instagram pictures.
