Food was pretty good. The garlic chicken has huge, whole garlic cloves! It's definitely a cheap, low-key place to get Chinese. Please don't go expecting high quality or pristine tables. It's really small. Lots of choices, though. If you want simple and quick Chinese, this is a good bet. read more

Large portion..decently priced..chef lunch special for 7.50$ including tax..I get a spicy Mongolian beef with rice , soup, and a can of soda..its a small family business..4 tables inside the restaurant..they have photos of plates they offer plus available menu on hand..they cook fast..when they say "10 minutes" it's really 10 min..guy working at the counter is very efficient, he's taking phone orders, doing the cashier, busing and cleaning tables and giving out orders, 5 stars for him..minus one star for the bathroom..although I appreciate them having an available bathroom for such a small restaurant, the bathroom is tucked in the back, so that means going through the kitchen alley and seeing things some people might find disturbing..if you go use the restroom, I suggest to walk fast and look straight ahead, the restroom is on your left..I have a pretty strong stomach, so for me to see things doesn't really bother me:.its clean, don't worry I've seen worse read more

I like the waitress. She is very fast and was smiling all the time, trying to help as much as possible. I have been there several times, by myself, with friends and with my families. Greasy!!!!! A huge pile of rice is plopped in the same container as your entree if it is to go. Pot sticker filling was more like a piece of meat (mystery), not the usual meat filling. Happy Chef is my go to place for quick, fresh, consistantly great Chinese food (not to mention excellent customer service and friendliness). I like to order the tofu/string beans or kung pao chicken, but I am sure their entire menu is good. You can get an entree and side of rice (good for two people) for less than $10, so a $10 bill will cover it. Delivery is fast and the food is always freshly cooked (delivery and take-out) - you will need to order $25 or more worth of food for delivery though. These guys have earned their five stars from me and my family. I definitely recommend this place! read more

It's okay. Nothing to write home about. The squid from squid Kung pow was VERY fishy, more fishy than any squid I'd ever tasted. The shrimp spring rolls were good but they don't de-vein their shrimp so that's disappointing and one tasted especially unfortunate. And the Mapo Tofu was again okay but nothing special. This review is for take-out only. One thing I notice is that they are slower than most Chinese restaurants. Sometimes takes 25 minutes. Had the egg foo young (a little on the heavy side and salty for my Chinese palette-- prawns with scrambled eggs is lighter), the Peking Style Pork Ribs (decent) and Fried Chicken Wings w/gravy. For the past year, we have been really pleased with everything we have ordered from Happy Chef. No complaints... until recently. All of a sudden it seems that the food quality has just plummeted to ZERO! It has become bland and univiting. I wish I had better things to say... I really do, but I am thinking that the chef may need to take a break. The service is always friendly, though. This place is not really a restaurant.. or at least it can be if the location wasnt so small. the food itself is decent. its not the greatest but it doesnt suck at the same time. they have a HUGE selection such a small store. it cannot be considered fastfood since everything is made to order. overall.. its good for that quick fix of chinese food. read more

Hate to go against the grain, but my expectations were certainly higher than what I got. We'll try Happy Chef another time to get a more balanced opinion. Pros: it's nearby, they deliver, and their menu is far more extensive than the photo of their menu board I found online. The price is right, parking was a-plenty, the owner(?) was friendly, and they have brown rice. Con: the food, folks. G/F and I wanted to try them in person for takeout cuz we barely found a limited menu online (the photo), so we drove on over, the only customers at about 5:00 PM. Mistake 1: we ordered the Hawaiian Pork plate. It took far longer to remove the fat than it did to eat the pork. And I don't eat fat. Mistake 2: ordering the (Chinese?) broccoli. Not like the photo they display, not like broccoli you'd buy in a store. It was 100% stalks, really long ones, cut about in quarters -- and *way* undercooked. Zero florets. I mean, I'll get by with somewhat undercooked broccoli no problem, but this was crunchy like a carrot. How could the (busy by now) chef goof so badly, given the rather long time it took for us to get our order? I feel I'm somewhat generous with two stars, but like I said, we'll give 'em another chance. read more

Absolute garbage. I came here last night with my toddler for the first time and ordered their Prawns Egg Foo Young only to go home to a giant tray of white rice, perhaps maybe the equivalent of 2 egg worth of egg whites and 5 pieces of shrimp, not prawns. What a poor excuse of a restaurant, luckily my toddler obsessed with white rice at the moment so there's plenty of that. Shrimp was tasteless, egg was tasteless. Disappointed. Had eaten there few times since I work nearby but the food quality has gone down. Not even the fried rice was safe to order. The shrimp was dried and rubbery. Recently ordered won ton soup and it was terrible. The wonton was wrapped with potsticker dough which is thick and heavy and the meat inside was little and bland. The other thing is they stopped delivering. The two stars go for cheap price and it's food that kills hunger. They might be happy chef but I'm a sad customer :( read more

Awesome hole in the wall place. A little dive-ish but my kind of place. Good and Cheap. You gotta park around the corner but the food is like good old Cantonese style cooking. Only a few seats to eat in. Lots of fresh fish dishes and Veggie dishes. Not too big on their chow mein (soft and mushy) but the fried rice is good. Trying to be healthy and go meatless. So I get the Hunan fish and dry string beans. Good. Didn't take too long for the food to come out. I like it. Notice a lot of people eating there from the hospital across the street. This is definitely a family run establishment as the owners have their family portrait prominently displayed in the middle of the dining area. There's about 5 tables so seating is rather limited, but will do if your in a rush. Not many dine in customers as this is a take out place so a spot is always available. Pictures of each dish adorn the wall. So what you see is definitely what you will be munching on. All the lunch specials range from 6-8 bucks, come with rice and soup of the day. Decent portions so one order should just about do the trick. Go to dishes include chicken basil, fried tofu string beans, Singapore style rice noodles, and house special pan fried noodles. Extra hot sauce/soy sauce is a must as flavor can be lacking. read more

Before I rant about how sick this food made me feel, I'll talk about how the orange beef (if it was beef) was mostly deep fried batter. What small amount of beef that there was was a very light grey color that looked nasty AF. I've been here twice in the past two weeks. Not bad for a local Chinese restaurant when you want something quick (It's 3 blocks from where I live). Both times the employees were friendly, and the last time I went the young woman walked around the counter where I was sitting at a table to give me my receipt, which I thought was quite good service. I think the people come from mainland China, based on their accents. Maybe I will try out my Mandarin Chinese skills next time I visit. read more

It's fast Chinese food. Well I wouldn't say fast meaning you get your food right away but....I suggest phone in your order. I wouldn't eat there either because it is a hole in the wall and during lunch time there is always a line in between the eating area. You feel like people are just watching you eat.
