It's been awhile since I had dim sum and my family wanted to have our monthly dinner at this location. They do have good customer service even though it felt at one point we were being rushed. The wait for the food isn't long and when your order comes in, it seems like everything comes all at once. We barely had room on the turnstile (lazy susan) on our table. We ended up having to put some other dishes on an empty table. The portions are plenty. We had more than enough leftovers to pack for each family. They did great accommodating a party of 20. Thank you Happy Days.

Delicious authentic Cantonese cuisine. Great dim sum. Very old school Chinese food.

Happy Days our Go To restaurant on the east side of Oahu. Genuinely authentic Cantonese cuisine prepared with the freshest ingredients. Locally owned and operated. They do an awesome job taking care of their customers. The chefs prepare authentic Cantonese cuisine with great attention to detail. Tonight we had a sampling of the dishes we ordered for our upcoming party. Peking Duck with Steamed Buns, Garlic String Beans with Pork, Salt and Pepper Pork Chops, and Beef Chow Fun. . Everything was delicious.

Was in the area , so wanted to go to Magoo's Pizza in Kaimuki, arrived about 11:30 disappointed to see them closed & opening @2 pm. Down the aisle way I saw Happy Days Seafood Restaurant. We saw as we entered they were doing Dim Sum Lunch. Got a table & shortly after the carts arrived. Different DimSum on each cart , you choose what you want & they brown & warm it up before serving it . Oh so good & different variety for everyone A old school popular Seafood Chinese Restaurant, good to see the eatery thriving! All our DimSum was delicious & the portions are usually 3 items per serving, so we had some to take home.Glad we ended up here!

We wanted dim sum and were in the area so we decided to try here. It was okay. I don't think we will be back.

Good lunch and dinner specials. Best dim sum in the area. Prices are average for the area. Street and paid parking lot nearby.

Extremely salty and gross chicken casserole

We went on a Sunday. There were so many tables filled up with people that I don't think the chef was cooking all the food. I wonder who was making our orders tonight, because the taste was gross and salty and way worse than what I can make at home. If you can't keep your food quality consistent, how can you call yourself a restaurant?! We spent over $120 for food that I can make way better at home.

First lunch with the family outside the house! After a wet morning doing New Year's grave visits we met my aunty and cousin for lunch. Mom had a hankering for dim sum and this is one of our go-to places. So little tip, if you go later (1:00-ish), its not as busy... but you will risk that some items are sold out. Also, ask them to cut stuff in half so you can try more things! We got there around 1:30 or so and got seated pretty quickly. within 2 seconds of sitting down a cart comes by (with all the sweet stuff). We got the taro ball and the last order of egg custard tarts. We also got jin dui with an inside and with pork inside. Cause desserts are always first. Then we got a shrimp and spinach, beef bean curd, charsiu bao, shu mai and mochi rice (always a favorite). They kept coming around with the carts but by then we had so much food. we had also ordered beef chow fun and cake noodle with chicken and choy sum.One lady kept trying to give us more items but we just wanted water and tea refills. I really appreciate the frequency of their visits but then I realized it was cause lunch hour was finishing up. I watched the staff roll the carts around the restaurant hitting up all the tables that came in after us until there was just a handful of people. Thank goodness it wasn't busy cause they let us sit and talk and finish eating until we couldn't move! Surprisingly for what we got our bill with tax was just abut $100. For 5 people that was pretty good! Happy Days hasn't failed us yet and I know it will still be one of my family's go-to dim sum places this year!

They serve dim sum until 9pm. Food arrived quickly and was good. Parking in the lot behind.

Happy Days is a pillar of the community and the best dim sum you'll find in Honolulu outside of Chinatown. This is my family's go-to spot, and while it's certainly not a 5-star dining experience, it's a solid restaurant that I've been frequenting for 20 years and will continue to come back. Some dim sum favorites are the meat gok, siu mai, stuffed eggplant, and look fun. Can't go wrong with the dim sum as long as you go late morning through lunch time. Later in the afternoon onward the selection dwindles and the food may be older, but that's to be expected. My family's regular menu favorites include the cake noodles and salt and pepper pork chops. Standard local Chinese restaurant staples done well that don't disappoint. Sometimes we'll even order a party size tray of the cake noodles and eat it for a few days straight. There's a large paid parking lot in the shopping center and plenty of metered street parking around the area. However, expect both the parking lot and the restaurant itself to be packed during peak times like weekend lunchtime and especially on holidays. The restaurant itself is a bit grungy and no frills, but that's just the way I like it. I'm not here for a fine dining experience or hipstery/Instagram-worthy decor. The workers can be a bit a bit brusque and direct, but always very friendly and efficient. Again, just the way I'd want a good Chinese restaurant to be. All in all, a solid restaurant that I will continue to patronize for years to come.

Siu mai
Lizzy Z.

Happy Days has been another favorite of my family's for years. One of the staff there is from the same village my family immigrated from generations ago! My great uncle is friends with him, and asks the kitchen staff to make some home style classics that you can't find on the menu, and they always do a great job with those. It truly tastes like a home-cooked meal My favorites from the menu, though, are the meat gok (it's like savory jin dui - with fried mochi outside and a filling of pork, water chestnut, mushroom, etc), the fried look fun rolls (esp with char siu! It's the perfect bouncy texture, with a lightly crisp/browned outside), the steamed fu pei guen (bean curd wrapped around a savory filling), the West lake soup, roast duck... so many good ones. If you go for dim sum, you'll get the classic experience of a server standing by your table repeatedly offering you every item in their cart. Love that!

Dinner! Tuesday October 7, 2025

October 7, 2025 we came here for dinner around 7:30pm. Service was fast and friendly. I think we ordered too much food for 2 people. The food came out hot and fast. It looked good and tasted good. Ambiance is casual and comfortable. We will be back again. Support local businesses.

221. Shredded Chicken Fried Rice
John M.

Very large hall type Chinese restaurant, good service, but disappointing meal. The Managua (Char Siu Bao) had very little meat. The Dinner plate included really tough Char Siu Pork, the broccoli was just par boiled, still nearly raw, and the cold chicken was cut through the bone. The Chicken Fried Rice was very salty, and tasteless.

Are they Wheelchair accessible?

I believe both entrance areas to the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, and I believe there is a ramp access to get on the sidewalk leading into the restaurant. There are NO stairs needed to get into the restaurant.

BYOB? Do they have a cork fee?

What time do the dim sum carts come out for service? What time do they stop the cart service?

A few carts usually start 30 mins after they open and all at an hour. They stop as they sell out or when the busy lunch time is over, usually around 2pm

Do they use MSG in their dishes? I have a friend who is allergic

We have problems with MSG so we usually request no MSG when we order. Things that are already made, like dim sum, probably can't be changed. I think a lot of people try to avoid MSG, so I don't think it's unreasonable to request no additional MSG.… Read more

You can check off what you want while you're waiting. As soon as you get seated, you can just hand over the menu to the server and it makes the process a lot faster. It didn't take that long for us to get our food. We ordered a lot of items. We got the shrimp dumplings, black bean spareribs, beef look fun, Shanghai pork dumplings, steamed salted egg custard buns, pan fried turnip cake, seafood bean curd roll, sesame balls with red bean, taro puffs and chicken dumplings. Everything was on point except the sesame balls with red bean. They were small and the breading was thick. Pass on those. My two favorites were the black bean spareribs and the salted egg custard buns. I love salted duck eggs. The prices here are a bit more than the average dim sum spot. Most of the steamed baskets were $7-$8. If you use your American Savings Bank debit card you get a discount: $7 off $50, $15 off $100 or $75 off $500. Free parking in the basement of the building.

Better late than never, but come too late and missed out on the good stuff?…read more Honolulu Seafood Restaurant is a sister restaurant to Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. Located in Downtown in the same space where Yong Sing, Mandalay, and the short-lived Bourbon Street used to be. Inside feels and looks essentially the same as the prior restaurants. Huge, open, two levels. Would you believe there was once a time where the second floor was an option to sit because it was just that busy? Hours is basically 10am everyday till 3pm, then 5-930pm. Seems like the hours are geared towards Downtown workers. Where to park? 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, park in the Ali'i Place Parking garage. Entrance is right past the restaurant. Only 75 cents per half hour and restaurant validates one dollar. After 5pm on weekdays, and 8-1am on weekends, park at Bishop Square Parking. Entrance is across from the restaurant, entrance from the left lane of Alakea. Cost is $1.50 with validation. The regular menu is exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. However, the dim sum is not the case. It's much, much less. There's only 16 total, and 7 more on weekends only. It's essentially the bare basics (but no beef ball!). All the dim sum looks exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant, but everything was on the bland side and just felt like it was missing something. Steamed Spareribs was one note and meat was not as tender. Beef Look Funn was good. The look funn had perfect thinness and texture. If have this dish, how come cannot have steamed beef balls? Chicken Feet was good. Soft, tasty, and meaty. But just ate and felt one note. Pan Fried Shrimp and Chives Dumplings was pretty good. Pan fried very well. Generous amount of filling. Just on the bland side. Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf was pretty good! Soft, moist mochi rice with a good amount of tasty filling. The Bean Curd Roll with Pork was probably the most flavorful dim sum of the meal. Jam-packed with tasty and flavorful filling. Overall, the dim sum was decent and almost similar to Kapiolani Seafood, but it was a touch on the bland side and a slight step below. Service was good. Friendly and attentive. Food came out pretty quick. Inside was cool, spacious, and comfortable. I want to come back on my lunch break! I don't mind dim sum'ing solo! Hopefully there'll be more dim sum choices. I remember seeing on social media they had some unique items only at this location. But I guess I'm too late! **I heard some news, maybe rumors, but the Kapiolani Seafood location might be forced to move due to that and the next lot being torn down for..... you guessed it, more condos! Hawaii Dim Sum & Seafood Restaurant replaced Golden Palace Restaurant in Chinatown on March 2023…read more The restaurant is known for large portions of authentic and popular dim sum and seafood dishes. Owner Kun Hang Liang and wife Karen Tam immigrated to HI many years ago and have always dreamt of owning their own restaurant, which is now this restaurant. The restaurant's offerings are extensive. They include: * Dim sum: custard tart, mochi ball/puff, fried taro, dumplings, siu mai, chicken feet, spare ribs, pork buns, turnip cake, seafood bean curd, mochi rice, look fun, soups. * Chef's specials: lotus root stuffed w/ shrmp, bbq roasted pork rib, slow-simmered soup, braised oxtail, calamari, whole chickens/ducks. * Appetizer: jellyfish, spring roll, gau gee, fried shrimp ball. * BBQ roast: duck, char siu, chicken. * Soup: seafood, hot sour, chicken, beef, egg drop, won ton, pumpkin. * Sichuan: shrimp, beef, fish, chicken, pork, ma po tofu. * Seafood: lobster, crab, fish, shrimp, clams, calamari, scallops. * Salt & pepper: calamari, shrimp, pork chop, tofu, chicken wings. * Meat: beef, pork, chicken. * Sizzling casserole: lamb/beef stew, seafood w/ tofu, prawns & vermicelli, kau yuk. * Sizzling platter: beef tenderloin, oysters, stuffed eggplant. * Tofu/egg: steam egg custard/tofu, egg w/ bittermelon, egg fu yung. * Veggies: mushrooms w/ veggies, broccoli w/ dried flounder, green beans, ong choy, choy sum, spinach, lotus root. * Starch: fried rice, chow mein, noodles in soup, chow fun, rice noodles. With the extensive menu offerings, there are some items that outshine others, which are to be expected. We ordered the following: * Siu mai. Enjoyed the large siu mai, which the dense pork was mixed with mushrooms and water chestnuts (no shrimp). It was tasty and flavorful. * Jin dui. Loved the large thin-crusted coconut/peanut jin dui, just how my mom used to make them! Most restaurants don't "roll" them enough to get that thin crust, but here, they make it right! * Sticky rice in lotus leaf. Chunks of lup cheong and whole salted egg yolks with mochi rice make this a winner! * Char siu look fun. This is one of my favorite dishes; however, it was not prepared well. Generous chunks of hardened and seemingly old char siu filled the look fun, making it difficult to eat and with a lack of tender flavored char siu. Loved that the sweet sauce is served separately in a squeeze bottle so that you can use as much as you want. * Dong Po Pork. This Hangzhou dish is pork belly braised in soy sauce, Shaoxiang wine, and rock sugar until it's tender and melts in your mouth. The pork bell is tied with a string to hold its shape, and staff will use a scissors to remove it. This dish is savory, sweet and has a rich caramelization; served with broccoli to balance the richness of the sauce. Eaten with rice, I really enjoyed this dish! Well plated and executed! Portions are generous, but price point may be contentious, as some dishes appear to be over-priced, like the char siu look fun. We arrived mid-morning on a weekday, and it was not very crowded. Staff was very friendly, attentive, and bilingual, which made communication easy. Service was quick and efficient. No moving carts, as you're given a sheet of listed dim sum to check off the ones you want to order. The large interior is spacious and clean. Its banquet hall can hold a max of 30+ tables for a private party. There are also smaller private rooms. Extensive renovations were made after the previous restaurant closed. Hours of operation are Thurs to Tues 8a to 9p and Wed 8a to 3p. Regular entrees are not prepared until 10a when the cooks arrive for work. Private parking available in back of the restaurant, municipal parking lots are nearby, and metered street parking are available. Extensive delicious menu offerings, generous portions, and efficient and friendly customer service will likely result in return visits to try other items on the menu. We wish the Liangs continued success with their restaurant! Support local!

What surprised me right off were the prices. I know things are rough for businesses and price hikes are necessary for the bottom line but $5.95/ $7.35 for dim sum? If you want steamed look fun, it'll cost you $10-11. Yikes! Our usual dim sum place is about $1-3 less. But to be fair, the size of the dimsum is huge. The chicken feet we had was sooo plump and the other dim sum looked like overstuffed balls. So okay, maybe the price is fair? Each plate came with 3. The food was tasty too except the chao zhou dumplings with peanut was salty for our taste.
