So happy he is back!! This is the Wah Kung that used to be at 99 ranch!! He is back!! Usually we take pictures of the food before we start eating, but we couldn't hold ourselves back. Couple of the dishes were taken after we've already started eating. The food is as amazing as it was before!! So good tasting. We had the gon lo Mein, roast duck, ginger chicken, honey walnut shrimp, salted duck egg, and the red bean milk drink. Dessert was on the house- warm mochi ball in ginger soup!! Quick efficient service Casual dining-

Owner was super hospitable and the food was delish! Beef chow fun, minute chicken cake noodle, orange chicken and siu mai! Only in Hawaii!

Saw the yelp reviews and was walking through that area so I decided to give it a try. I got an order of crispy gau gee and a plate of Yangzhou fried rice. Both were delicious. The gau gee weren't super crispy but that is probably because I don't eat them until I went back to my hotel a mile away. I'd definitely recommend this place and plan to return whenever I am back in town.

Chinese cuisine for lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... I wanted to take my dentist to lunch because she's very kind to me and is perceptive of my health care needs... because she's so knowledgeable, creative, and has excellent suggestions! Everything she's done for me has worked! I'm amazed! Anyway, I scrolled through my Yelp app and came across a familiar name: Wah Kung. I thought: "Nah... it cannot be." My family had my dad's birthday party at the former location at 99 Moanalua - a very long time ago! Then, I read the review by Ric C. - my cuz! He wouldn't lie! LOL! It's the same owner - he justchad to buy the Joy Cup Noodles name! My dentist was game, so I drove her to Kalakaua Avenue where parking is challenging. (The new) Wah Kung is in that bright green building - next to Frog House! There were a couple of free parking stalls right in front! Yippee! The owner was very welcoming and enthusiastic! He was so kind to a customer that was complaining about the price. The guy was threatening the owner and almost making a scene! The owner gave the customer the special lunch price. Wow! My dentist got the cold ginger chicken special and was really happy with the generous amount of ginger and green onion topping. She enjoyed the white chicken breast meat! I got the beef oong choi on rice. The beef was tender and the veggies were crisp! The flavoring was just right and not too salty! We also shared an order of ha gow (shrimp dumplings). They were ok. We were given complimentary dessert of sweet watermelon! Thank you! The owner thanked us for coming and invited us back! Then, he went outside to a takeout customer who was complaining about her egg rolls and how she can't eat pork. The owner offered to make a vegetarian version for her. He's really making an effort and is willing to accommodate each customer!

"They're back!" It's always good to hear when a long time restaurant that closed down makes an unexpected return. For too many years, old favorites closed, saying we'll be back- only to be silenced and not heard from again. Wah Kung was a bedrock in the Mapunapuna area, first near Gibsons, then for many years at 99 Ranch. Most of us remember them from 99 Ranch. During those 99 Ranch years many of us went there mini banquets or to do the regular take outs for the ohana at home. When 99 Ranch closed down, many businesses shut their doors, most calling it quits. Most of us thought the same for Wah Kung. As it turns out, the owners were working out of one of the Times Supermarkets, creating abbreviated offerings while formulating their plans. In June of 2025 they reopened at a new, smaller location on Kalakaua ave in the green building next to Frog House Restaurant. The green building on the corner of Kalakaua and Philips streets is their new home. The restaurant is small, but clean with several tables. The AC is great. So for this first offering at their reopening: i had crispy gau gee mein with veggies over crispy noodles. Was delicious. Although a small sample size, my dish was as I remembered it. Not too salty, crispy noodles, tasty gau gee and just the right amount of gravy. They have lots of specials including lunch specials, some of which include a drink. I look forward to trying other dishes that they serve. Note: Parking in front of the restaurant is at a slight angle, you have to back out into Kalakaua ave so be careful. There is some limited parking behind the building , you enter from Philips street. This rear bldg parking is tandem so a little more problematic. All the parking stalls are not exclusive to any of the businesses and are shared by all.

I almost feel bad writing this review because the service was pretty good. The owner may be the server for us, he was energetic, nice and overall good vibes. That was worth a star. Otherwise, the food was way below of my expectations. A. The ginger chicken plate, the chicken seems like it was boil in water. The meat had 0 flavor, and rhe mean was bland. The sauce on top of it was okay, but sure not enough to save the chicken. B. The char siu, suppose to be a bbq. Its in the name itself in chinese. This red meat they served properly came from the same pot of boiled water from the chicken, then color in red. Its definitely not char siu. C. The soup dumpling is from Costco, I believe. Tastes the same D. The beef look fun, omg, this was so bad. It came with a large piece of ginger, unpeeled and all. The funn noodles were freaking desolving. This happens to me when I pull this out of the freezer then over cook it at home. It's just disappointing. Overall, good service, the food is lacks some basic cooking techniques. I paid 100 bucks for the table and couldn't take it anymore. Was still hungry

One of the best Chinese restaurants is back! Same manager from the old Moanalua 99 Ranch spot, now reopened in Honolulu. The manager mentioned they just opened a few days ago and took over an old noodle shop. The interior could use a little TLC it feels a bit run down, and swapping out the tablecloths would go a long way in improving the vibe. But honestly, the food more than made up for it. We ordered the xiao long bao, minute chicken cake noodle, brisket look fun, and salt & pepper pork chop. Everything was on point no complaints at all. Service was excellent too. The manager even sang his special happy birthday song for my nephew, which made the experience extra memorable. Overall, solid food and great service. Happy to see them back in action!

Good service, tasty food, quick cooking time. Their food is quality, tasty, and beautifully made. They also do lunch specials. The chef which is owner allows you to pick and chose your ingredients and combos. So affordable and big portion

We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! The curry sauce was so deep & complex. In addition, the crab was fresh bc they have tanks in the restaurant. Of course I called dibs on the head, and it was packed with goodies. I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. I will def return the next time I come home. I want to try another crab dish (about 8 versions), and build a meal around the crab.

Breakdown easily. not spicy at all though. next dish tried - was the pickle fish noodle - first time trying to dish anywhere. Surprisingly preferred this over the beef noodle. a little bit of sour, but just the right amount with the creamy broth mix. This with the chewy noodle was bomb.
